Just to correct one thing, the bad dad Goku joke has been around since at least 2003. It was a fridge logic type of thing. It came entirely from people pretending to overthink the show and pointing out his absenteeism on account of being dead. It's only a part of dbza because of how common a joke it was beforehand. They say it themselves during their episode commentaries. And I remember the message boards from before RUclips

that makes sense, forgive my ignorance on that one, i only heard it from my older brothers around 2009 or so. I wasn't really cognizant of anything in 2003 😂

Even still, most people now a days use TFS abridged as their proof of him being a bad dad constantly. So it still stands as TFS boosting it even worse than it was. There is even people that go around saying TFS is just the best version of DBZ because it is short and still tells you the story. Even though the creators even say it's not and to actually watch the show.

7:43 , that was unfortunately a joke that was lost in translation but it has been so long that people will not care and have forgotten when it was explained in the past. What Goku is being shocked about is Trunks mouth feeding Mai a senzu bean. He didn't understand since whenever he feed someone a senzu it was by putting it directly into their mouths or by handing it to them.
Trunks feeds the senzu to Mai via mouth to mouth.
Goku: "Woah Trunks, you actually put your mouth up against hers?" - For giving someone a senzu
Vegeta: "You've never done that? - "That" = Kissed a girl
Goku: "Of course not" - Goku has never given someone a senzu via mouth to mouth
    Vegeta: "But you're married!"
Goku: "What does being married have anything to do with this?" -"This" = Giving someone a senzu via mouth to mouth.
Vegeta was talking about kissing someone, Goku thought he meant some way of giving someone a senzu, a mix of Vegeta not specifying himself and Goku being too oblivious to realize why Trunks did that.

I don't really think that's what happened there Goku to me feels like he saying he has never actually kissed someone and to be honest I don't think he sees it as a necessity to do. Toriyama has made comments about how Goku doesn't see his family in the traditional sense he sees them more as companions. I think when people are shocked or can't believe Goku hasn't done it feels like you're trying to humanize him when he's always been either a strange monkey boy or an alien.

Good Video! I really like the whole growth Vs change point you brought up. It's tough, but for me I might go with him letting Vegeta go it seemed ridiculous at the time because Goku just lost and Vegeta was definitely going to regain his strength and come back, but Goku was so hopeful and optimistic that next time he'll win for sure. I also love the moments of Goku's "poison" showing where it seems like he is making a selfish decision and terrible mistake, but because all his decisions come from his pure heart/intentions it always works out and it's like the universe rewarding him for it in the long term.

Since Goku and his sons are saiyan maybe there’s an argument they have a different mental or emotional make up and they react to stimuli differently as children but if we are too assume they are like human children then there is definitely a solid argument for goku being an unsatisfactory father and his sons becoming successful adults would be in spite of him instead of because of him, the affects of an absent father from 0-7 like goten’s case are immeasurable and having an experience of “meeting your parent” can cause a deep identity crisis, and for gohan he had to go from boyhood to manhood on his own and any man now who did that without their father regardless of the reason knows how lonely that journey is and Goku doing that intentionally makes him being a bad dad at least debatable

    • @KallmeKnicK
      @KallmeKnicK  Месяц назад +1

saiyans definitely have a different makeup, as they were sent to other planets to grow up there and conquer them without even meeting their parents. aside from that though, calling goku a bad dad because he sacrificed himself to save gohan and the earth and therefore wasn't alive when goten was born is wild. i see what you're going for, i just don't think it applies. if anything, vegeta is a bad father. possible video coming on that 👀

For me personally Goku is terrible in Super, Goku was always selfish but he had redeeming qualities however in Super he's always acting like an idiot he sees how dangerous Beerus is challenges him and then after seeing how powerful Beerus is he almost let's him destroy earth by intervening and the in RoF he spares Freeza AGAIN after he fought him on Namek it was ridiculous for him to do that he learnt from his lesson when Mecha Freeza came to earth then in universe 6 Goku almost fails the test when in Z he would have never been close to fail it, in Goku black he's still an idiot who forgets the senzu, doenst know what a kiss is, forgets the seal, forgets to train properly and thus he gets crushed by Black easily, in Top he caused a multiversal tournament that erased all of the universes for his own selfish gain Super Goku is a terrible overused concept like you said that is always Goku POV and not multiple charactere POV like in Z heck even in Buu we had different characters I hate how badly and overused Goku is in Super being shoved into every scene and being an obnoxious, immature, self absorbed idiot and it's a real shame Thanks for the video

Goku definitely is a bad dad. You cant passively be a good parent and his 2 biggest priorities are 1) getting strong and 2) protecting the universe and he never pushes either to the side to be a father. Even vegeta on mutltiple occasions has elected to throw it all away for his family righr or wrong. Although its the reasonable thing goku elected to choose the planet over both his kids multiple times. Hes like a workaholic parent that even though his kids benefit from his actions it does not make him a good dad. Its not that he doesnt enjoy being a dad hes just no invested in it and does even care if his kid knows hes alive. The senzu bean thing was the right thing to do overall but not as a parent. Objectively hes a just a bad parent and hes fine with that

@@thelettucebarrel7784 assuming that he wasnt regularly visiting during that 7 year time period after cell died I cant see that as being a good father. If you willingly choose to not be around your kids for 7 years I cant say you're a good father. Gokus my favorite character and all but i look at him like michael jordan. His commitment was to being great not to being the best dad in the world. The most egregious thing he did was not coming immediately home after the frieza fight. It's inexcusable. Not only that. He chose to ride a ship rather than teleport to let his family see him and know that hes alive. Nobody knew he was alive until they wished for him to come back a year later. There's no reason but selfishness to decline being wish home. Goku not being a all around great guy is not news. Toriyama addressed goku's nature and priorities in an interview. He doesn't have to be a saint

@@macalloway1 I never said he was a great father, there was no need to write a paragraph response filled with stuff I already knew. Him staying in space was selfish, yes, but the seven years thing is a bit different. He was dead and decided to stay dead because he figured the earth would be safer since his influence isn’t there. And he was right.
Also, it wasn’t a full year after Namek when they made the wish. Namekian years are much shorter than earth years. Furthermore, Goku is a good person. He’s not a saint but he is a naturally pure and good hearted person with selfish tendencies.

well would YOU move the objective of protecting the universe for ur son? that just sounds like chichi brainrot. Vegeta throwed away his pride and goku also has during BoG. Why would he be invested in it I don't even think he knew he had another son when he died and even then he had a reason. The senzu bean against cell in hindsight is the right move regardless. he gave the senzu to gohan because he didn't entirely understand gohan. He barely has time to do so. in the time chamber they do nothing but train. During the training with piccolo they also train. After learning this he is willing to take a senzu and then jump in for gohan's sake. Just because he isn't some guy who is willing to stay with his kids 24/7 doesn't make him a bad dad or anyone a dad. He is protecting the family.
