    I love how at least 5 people have asked if you can eat the leaves in the comments but there is literally no answer given in replies, just them thanking for an answer no one else can see. Its ever so helpful.

      Yes, sweet rice or glutinous rice is sticky rice, not regular rice. :)

      The Sakura leaf is just to give it a subtle flavour but mostly for decoration.

      Find glutinous rice at any asian supermarkets if possible. @UglyDuckling3WM4 I worked at a Japanese café. We served Sakura Mochi and this is what we use.

      Lorena Secan you can use glutinous rice but not normal rice. Just add sugar to the glutinous rice.

      Sakura Mochi is always "half pound" glutinous rice. You will see the grain still. We have different kinds of mochi in Japan.

    Do not put food coloring in it its not tasty put the water from the anko if your makeing anko from the start

      I also never liked the flavor of food coloring. I simply pour hot water over organic blueberries and smash through a sifter for a purple color. For pink I do organic raspberries and they are naturally soft so pushing through a sifter/strainer over your rice easily gives you the desired color and does not have a nasty taste (: it just sucks because you might need a lot of berries for your desired color but it works. this is the technique they use for raspberry and blueberry rice ☺
