It’s a testament to the Procreate team that they still only charge £10 for this and that is not monthly! You buy it once and all updates are free. Incredible.
So when it comes to working with rasterized art versus vector, you need to consider the DPI amount as well as the size of the canvas. If you want to print anything and it not be pixelated, you should have the dpi amount set to 300 at the minimum. Anything less than that could be a pixelated mess, depending on the size of the print. I usually set it to 400 dpi on top of having a larger canvas size. That way it can be printed in large format without issues.
I am not an Apple user, but you've inspired me to price iPads so I can start using Procreate! So far, I've made physical art only (watercolors, drawings, painted on silk). Sounds like Procreate could be a great way to transition to digital art-making. Thanks for this intro.
You are so welcome! Be sure to check out my series of Procreate tutorials (I'm still working to grow it) because the watercolor brush is honestly one of my absolute favorites! The customizability of the brushes and canvases in Procreate is really awesome as you make the switch, I did the same thing and never looked back!
I feel that Procreate is the best app for artists who are moving from physical art (watercolor, pencil and pen illustration, markers, etc) to digital art. It's quite cheap-particularly when you already have the iPad and the Pencil-has got great support and has a really simple interface. I honestly haven't used a lot of the features, happy to just treat it as if I were using a pen and paper.

I absolutely love my procreate and like procreate dreams. I am using to create adaptive creative art for people with disabilities. One of the things I love is the flexibility of this program and the ease of use of the brushes. (Which I am so addicted to!) The portability is undeniably the best! (I am frequently in the hospital and this is always with me! The final images can be printed but I also use them with my sublimation work!) Though now I need more advanced training in terms of the drawing aspect! FYI - the streamline is so incredible, especially for those of use with limited hand use!
Quick question. What storage size would you recommend when buying an ipad for digital art. Does the 5000x5000px canvas result in huge file sizes and in turn a higher base storage being more optimal? Would love to hear what you recommend as a storage size.
I also love Procreate! Just a side note on the video, maybe not “hold up” your iPad to the camera so often? Using a screen recording is easier on the viewer, thanks!
When you print from home, do the colors on your screen match the printed colors? I've had so many issues with this and not sure how to correct it? Maybe I should only use mockups from taking photos with my phone and not PNG mockups?
Do you have an online workshop or video to teach someone how to start a business similar to what you're doing and how to license, who to contact, etc etc.. the abc's?
Question: how are you converting your images to vectors for resizing images without loosing quality (which program and process do you use)? I love procreate for drawing, but I'm stuggling to find the best method to convert my images to other sizes to create multiple products from one image. Thanks!
Could someone recommend a few YT videos, or a YT channel, for newbies to procreate so I can hit the ground running? In particular painting with it using existing brushes, plus how to get new brushes, or how to create your own brushes. Also, any suggestions for good knockoffs to the Apple pencil? Many thanks.
