Omg, I have to do this ALL the time with my clients, its not that its dreaded, when water hits all of the lint, dirt and dust that accumulates at the base of the braid, it turns to a feeling of cement. These knots of debris MUST be combed out BEFORE you wet your hair, and you will have no problem, however if you do wet your hair.. PRO TIP: Saturate with any Aussie Conditioner and plastic cap, sit under the dryer for 30 min and the dirt knots will slip right out with a comb..Then proceed to washing💜

I once washed my hair immediately after removing braids as well. Took days to detangle! The braiders should educate their clients on how to remove the braids when they put them in.

omg this was me 2 days ago when i was taking my 2-strand twists out. not only did i wash before detangling, but i used a CLARIFYING shampoo. took alllllll the slip out and my hair was loc’d up. it took me 9 hours…pulling strand by strand. never again!!
I think someone mentioned using some leave in conditioner on the knotted section. That WORKED!! I just rubbed some into the knots at the nape of my neck and it made such a difference. My hair is so fine so this is always a problem. 😭 THANK YOU! I couldn't find the comment to give props.

This same thing happened to me. But it wasn’t from washing before detangling. It locked up from whatever products the braider used. I used a leave in, my fingers, and a rat tail comb to break apart the locs. It took me 4 days, but glad I took my time. Not much hair was shedded either.

omg.. could have detangled her hair in 2 minutes with "simply shelli hair serum spray mist. it's a detangler. just spray onto hair, cover with plastic bonnet, wait 2 minutes, then comb out. comb will glide through
My hair locks with in 60 days of braids I think is the type of hair if it's real thick 🤔 I watched people wear braids 4 to 6 months with out taking them down and they are not locked up.

I'm white but when I was young, I had long hair, and my mother would SAY she'd start combing from the bottom up, and this lady would end up just yanking the comb through my knots and tangles, pulling out hair galore!!! Finally I just had her cut the mess off, mainly so I'd never have to go through some bs make me wanna smack my Momma again! 🤣😂🤣 P.S. I cut for that square puzzle brush. It’s been six months since I took out my daughters locs… I am still trying to get the middle of her hair detangled to the root. That’s why I’m watching this video. It hurts her so bad that for months all I could do was two pigtails and finally a couple of weeks ago, we worked our way up to about 10-12 ponytails. I am determined to tackle this once and for all so that she can get back to wearing more versatile hairstyles without the pain. This video offered a lot of tips. Geeze, I would drench her hair with water before starting because that’s what I did with the locs. I’m going to start on damp hair this time! Wish me luck 😊

Yep. Dealing with this now. Only the back left but on the 3rd day. Doing it by myself is so hard because our arms can only go backwards for so long especially with arthritis. Braiding the parts as i get them out so they dont redread as I get the rest done. It sucks.
I have to do this all the time with my kid's braids. As of this weekend I told the stylist don't put any products in their hair. I should have been doing that for years but forget, but not anymore. It takes hours to get the matting out . My kid got that thick coarse hair so it doesn't get messed up in braids like fine hair, so it doesn't even need products with braids.
I had a twist out, got sick and couldn't do my hair. The next week , for work..I just brushed the top of my hair it into a bun..laaaawd. I really needed that brush. It took me 4 hours to de-tangle, my hair 🙃 (my hair is mid back length, and thick). I'm definitely getting that 4 piece set.

Omg I took my braids out and this happened to me within an hour after washing my hair. I washed my hair then someone asked for a ride so I put on a beanie and left got back home and my hair knotted up so bad😔 took a long time to get out the knots and not harm my scalp while detailing. I have horse hair lol, that's common sense. I spray a detangler spray too, then wash, and use another detangler conditioner. I have to comb it out right away. I've had dreads too lol. It's hard to take care of She's lucky to have u!!!
I have long hair then the last winter, they got really dry and tangle up. Instead of trying to de tangle, I take a scissor and cut it short from the waist line to shoulder length. Wow, feel great. I am now free, no long be slave to detangle hair everytime I shampoo! 3 time a weeks, take at least 1 hour to comb out and dry... I just chop it up. I will let let hair to take out my precious time to comb, to dry ....!
My hair grows dreds way more than I'd like to admit cuz i tend to be lazy to detangle and pull my hair up a lot. My hair is relaxed... So usually I use the relaxer to detangle it...
I took out corn rolls last night detangled and put them in twist washed them in twists just now and boom it’s matted like why? So discouraged to get thru this

Maybe try putting deep conditioner on your head and sitting under a hooded dryer for about 20-30 minutes. THEN detangle. I'm so sorry that your in this predicament and I hope this helps you.

This happened to me about a year ago where i got box braids and when it was time to take them out i didn't detangle my hair, and my hair started falling out after it knotted up. I had bald spots and i had to cut my hair off. I had some long beautiful hair that took me 2 years to grow out. I already knew to detangle but i was just being lazy and I had to go to work that same day. 🤦

I stopped getting single braids because my hair locs up like this also. It took me 3 days to detangle my hair after removing my single braids.

I made that mistake once and what a NIGHTMARE !!!
This happened to me about a year ago where i got box braids and when it was time to take them out i didn't detangle my hair, and my hair started falling out after it knotted up.
I had bald spots and i had to cut my hair off.
I had some long beautiful hair that took me 2 years to grow out.
I already knew to detangle but i was just being lazy and I had to go to work that same day. 🤦
I'm going through this as we speak. First time ever getting braides now I'm left without much hair and overly stressed!

Being a person who doesn't get her hair done, I had no idea that I was supposed to detangle before washing. I never detangle before washing. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Well, my hair matted up so bad at the ends, I had to chop off a lot. I tried regular detangler, it didn't work. 😡😡

Raising hand on the "using conditioner to detangle". That was me. Slathered a bunch of conditioner, my hair was like NOPE!! After 3 days of detangling and a sore head my hair was like, "girl I told you NOPE". My win came in the form of me doing a big chop!!!
Sometimes that's the only way to go. Now you get try some nice styles
