Another one of the All Black greats who is wholly respected in South Africa. Not only for his prowess on the pitch, but as a gentleman and a friend off the field. A true rugby man who understood the ethos of the game: enemies on the field, but friends off it. Those were the good old days.
He's a lover this legend, I met him once and he told me where he met his wife, that's a huge gift to me other than his Great Rugby. That was something pritty amazing to shear to me he rocks! (RIP) Brother x
Since the start of nz rugby they cheated by standing on the offside line instead of behind😮 even the 7s between blitz and nz they got away with 2 forwardpass as usually every game globallyso what now😮
I’m from Taumarunui, when I saw pine tree in my town I’m 11yrs old to see a Allblack legend in my home town, who only lived an hour away,I was in awe of this man
I remember him tackling Clive Rowland, the Welsh captain in Cardiff, late tackle. Clive had kicked for touch and the ball was just about in the stand when Meads arrived.Clive had not braced for such a late hit and it nearly cut him in two! Crowd thought he was seriously injured but he wasnt. It took a lot to get them off the field in those days but of course they were men, not weight trained, additive stuffed, two ton robots!
Colin Pinetree Meads is one of the true legends of world rugby. All Black from 1957-1971 and 55 tests which in todays game doesn't sound like a lot but test matches in his era were limited to about 4 a year unlike 8-9 test matches today. Pinetree played a total of 132 matches for the ABs which is unlikely to be matched.
I remember the test when he played with a broken arm in a mould. Nowadays players go off for almost anything. I don’t say that’s wrong I just point out how things change. Not just him, remember Grant Batty, the great winger, playing a test with a brace to support a shattered patella.

Understated generation. There is no honour in self praise ,as my grandad would say . Good on ya
No ego, just a straight shooter, legend.
Great player and a wonderful person. As a South African I always had the greatest respect for him.
I remember my Dad talking about Meads ...from Ireland..a hard honest NZ farmer..back on the 70s
This is a great man who represented king Country and NZ proudly. Such a gentleman !!

They broke the mould when they made Pinetree (Sir Fred Allen)
Legend with legendary korero - RIP Colin

Love Colin Meads 😔♥️
Terrific stuff..! 👍🏻
Upbringing similar to Willie John MacBride’s. Both genuine legends with a close friendship through the decades.
One of the games Greatest players, also a Giant among men.
Pinetree! What a great all round player. Later servant of the game.
How did he feel about being sent off v Scotland ?
Legend:
Ask him about his physical destruction of the Wallabies champion half back, Ken Catchpole. That's how this brute is remembered.
Only in Australia
He did a great job of it too.
Hahaha😂. Dry your eyes princess. Rugbys a man’s game. Don’t like it don’t play it!!
A hard man but also a brutal bully - he got away with murder - a dirty player
A few too many late hits to be a genuine sportsman. A hard man though
The bloke who ruined Keith Catchpole's career with a woefully cowardly act. That's fact.
I trust your Mother loves you Ged.
Gutless aussies
A great footballer ,but he ended ken catchpoles career by twisting his leg like a corkscrew (well off the ball ) he shoulda been banned for life wiggy
He deliberately maimed , and consequently ended the career of, Ken Catchpole. The man is a grub.
It wasn’t deliberate.
Ken was on wrong side of ruck, what you expect
Take no prisoners its a tough game
There's always one. Maybe two as I assume you have a friend.
