@dlxmarks Indeed. Especially for a boozer, he's aged incredibly well. Much more so than O'Toole at that age. Or say, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris... Richard Burton never saw 61.
The story is in the book Hellraisers : The life and Inebriated times of Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole, and Oliver Reed. Great read. There is one about how Peter O'Toole and Richard Harris were so drunk that they tried to eat some meat, and Richard threw it out the window. The next day they saw a dead cat next to it.
That TV film they talk about (Lions of War) is on Prime video (I think). It was interesting! Michael's telling us about a black out was interesting too! Glad he wasn't doing drugs also or he would not be around now.
Alcohol destroys inhibition cells in the brain. Very true. You make a fool of yourself and get dodge courage in return. This could get you in a lot of trouble.
The point about Michael Caine's drinking is that he reduced it drastically, especially after meeting the exquisitely beautiful girl he married, so that he could still enjoy drinking a glass of good wine. He wasn't an alcoholic and didn't want to become one. Peter O'Toole was an alcoholic, which made him unreliable and nasty - sadly, because he was a very good actor when he chose.
This is an amazing story of two legendary actors but also a harrowing tale of the real dangers of alcohol. It is ASTOUNDING that Caine here does not consider booze a drug. Many men of his generation thought/think the same. "I don't do drugs." meanwhile they drink so much they lose entire days/weeks due to a booze bender. Alcohol is a hell of a drug. Far more dangerous than many drugs that are illegal. I say all of this as a person who still drinks, that has also had serious consequences BECAUSE of drinking. I do enjoy drinking alcohol. But if I could go back in time, rewire my brain and just choose to NEVER try alcohol from the start----It's hard to argue that my life today wouldn't be better for it. It's also never too late to get sober which may be my path going forward. When I tally up the good times and bad times with booze......the real damage done is not really worth the temporary euphoria or good times I can never remember. The problem is that alcohol is legal and so readily available and at least as you're getting drunk the rising action, there is a sense of ease and relief and inhibition as Sir Michael Caine mentions. But to keep that level of functional euphoria, you have to drink. Which often leads to drinking more than you intended, which leads you to being far too drunk, which leads to regretful situations like Caine ended up in here. I've done some very stupid things drunk but never lost track of TWO WHOLE CONSECUTIVE DAYS blackout wasted. O'Toole and Caine weren't social drinkers they were full blown, fast lane to cirrhosis and liver failure alcoholics. The fact they lived as long as they did is luck.
🎵Happy Birthday To U WHOO Happy Birthday Two U WHOO Happy Birthday Dear Michael Happy Birthday ✌️ U🎵 WHOO Happy Birthday Michael Caine. UR legend. Austin Powers in Goldmember is hilarious. Stalin was a very good linguist but he didn’t speak any English. Obviously, he spoke Georgian - his native language - and Russian. He could certainly read Greek. I believe he learned to speak some German as an adult. This is pretty impressive as all four belong to completely different language families. It’s a while since I’ve read it but I think that in his book, ‘Young Stalin’, Simon Sebag Montefiore reckons that he knew some Turkish and Armenian also. I’ve got a copy but can’t be bothered to check. If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will correct me - which I wouldn’t resent in the least. Best wishes
Shaw and O’Toole aren’t. Both were born in England and were brought up there. Shaw ended up living in Ireland; O’Toole made a lot of his Irish heritage but spent most of his life in England.
It's not fake if you believe in what you're laughing at. As for your nerves, just have a stiff drink and you'll feel much better. You might even laugh...
Just in case you haven't heard... God so loved the world He gave His son Jesus that whoever believes in Jesus will have everlasting life. John 3:16 Please believe and repent from your sin today. Eternity in heaven should not be taken lightly, dont be left behind. Love Y'all
If you are reading this right now, I pray you will get what you always pray for, I pray you will get the happiness you want in life, I pray things will work out for you. Never give up, good days are coming.❤️🙏
Peter o toole , Richard Harris micheal Caine and Robert Shaw! What a list of incredible actors
Oliver reed, billy connolly, christy moore, richard burton can be added to said list
Incredible drinkers!
Donald Pleasence was also a great drinker and actor
You listed the hall of fame there for me. Especially Harris - best actor I've ever seen.
Only Michael Caine remain with us
You have this grizzled english giant of acting, Michael Caine and an all fresh, slightly star struck Conan - good stuff.
Caine was 61 in this clip and, all things considered, looks great.
Conan was super fresh faced.
@dlxmarks Indeed. Especially for a boozer, he's aged incredibly well. Much more so than O'Toole at that age. Or say, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris... Richard Burton never saw 61.
Conan is in awe of Michael Caine as I imagine he had seen "Get Carter," "Italian Job," and "The Man Who Would Be King." Who wouldn't be, really.
The Man Who Would Be King!!! Brilliant movie in all regards.
Jaws 4 too!
I just now heard about this interview on the Quentin Tarantino COBNAF podcast!
same!
Same! 😂
Samesies
Same!
Why what do they say about it?
Awww… infant conan! Such a loveable man always
love Michael Caine. He can play the phonebook and I will still watch it.
I got to admit, I actually laughed when Michael Caine first mentioned he played Stalin. Then I saw the clip, and I wasn't laughing anymore.
I might create another account just to like this comment one more time :)
Man, he was awesome! I want to watch the movie rn.
Wow. Same-sies! It makes me think of all the movies I haven't seen! Time to start watchig, I guess lol
When Lions Roar is a good little film. Bob Hopkins as Churchill, John Lithgow as FDR and Michael Caine as Stalin.
Caine is such an amazing actor with a lot of range. I missed that show, but I plan on accessing it quite soon.
Was the cat crushed by the meat or alcohol poisoned by it??
@@thetylife From what I understand, the meat itself was not safe to eat.
O'Toole tells that story on Carson I believe. Its on YT. The twist being that Richard Harris says it was a dog.
Was Richard Harris Dumbledore?
@@TheKillahKyla Yes, in the first HP film.
Such a lovely actor and person. True gentlemen. Love the stories about Mr O'Toole
A legend in cinema and a legend on TV!
Memories! Love Peter and Michael!
Michael Caine is a gem. Love that guy.
Love him.
Such good movies.
The irony of My Cocaine saying, "we didn't do drugs"
😂😂😂
That TV film they talk about (Lions of War) is on Prime video (I think). It was interesting! Michael's telling us about a black out was interesting too! Glad he wasn't doing drugs also or he would not be around now.
Gotta love Caine.
a very rare moment , perhaps the only moment in history between when Michael Caine was a younger / older man
Michael Caine tells great stories.
Not many people know this, brilliant actor.
this is awesome! thanks for the upload!
Michael always impresses.
They predicted the film Death of Stalin.
I knew it. Known it for most of my 54 years.
I've just listen to Conan and Quentin Tarantino in the special episode of the podcast talking about this clip. Of course, is no coincidence.
"And I never found out what happened to Sunday."
conan is so cute and caine is a great stalin. and Conan is the best since letterman
He almost predicted The Death of Stalin!
Alcohol destroys inhibition cells in the brain. Very true. You make a fool of yourself and get dodge courage in return. This could get you in a lot of trouble.
Michael Caine as Stalin looks frighteningly like my late grandfather 😂
The point about Michael Caine's drinking is that he reduced it drastically, especially after meeting the exquisitely beautiful girl he married, so that he could still enjoy drinking a glass of good wine. The Eagle Has Landed, great movie, Weatherman, Dark Knight trilogy...
Just love this man!🇬🇧💙
Class act.
Underated film
Conan was fantastic.
I didn't know I'm the same height as Sir Michael Caine
I forget who said it first, but if you want to say Michael Caine in a cockney accent just say "My Cocaine"
This was back before they started caking multi-layers of makeup on Conan, you can actually see all the freckles on his face/forehead
Major get for conan
Well done
i have to see this movie
Dear Mr. Caine, ı love alldrunks of the world, you guys rock,so pls just show me the way to the next whiskey but pls don't ask why.
Conan looks wild in this one
Michael Caine in this interview is 1 year older than Conan is now
The Great Michael Caine...
Apparently a great cook , does blinding Sunday roast dinners
Michael played Alfred in the Dark Knight movies and Peter played TE Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia and Priam in Troy
watch Alfie (1966)
The Italian Job? Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? Zulu? Man has done some of the most legendary films of all time. TDK deserves to be there, so are these.
I think he also produced "The Dark Knight."
At 100 yards..........volley fire...... present.............aim..........
Lol they became Jack Sparrow's 😂.
I have seen photos of Peter O'toole and Richard Harris together but never Peter O'toole and Michae Caine together.
Peter O'Toole was beautiful back when he filmed "Lawrence of Arabia."

Crazy this looks sooo old
"The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there..."
Michael Caine is about the same age (61) in this clip as Conan is now (59)
When actors take themselves too seriously
My cocaine.
Fun fact. The correct way to pronounce his name is My Cocaine.
British actors were all drunks-- all starting with Richard Burton and Oliver Reed
A cockney Stalin 😂
young Conan doesn't seem real. It's like the wax museum lent him to the show
“You can’t do drugs and drinks alcohol” 🤔

Hey guys
Not too bad the Yank. Surprised!
FIDDLE FADDLE!
So Churchill was the small bird... Stalin was horrible but a smart fellow. One villain recognizing a much smaller version of himself
lol Alcohol is an effing drug. How or why does he not want to acknowledge it.
Foreshadowing The Death of Stalin
Now I'm curious, did Stalin speak English that good?
Stalin was a very good linguist but he didn’t speak any English.
Obviously, he spoke Georgian - his native language - and Russian. He could certainly read Greek. I believe he learned to speak some German as an adult.

Why don’t American chat show hosts let the guest just talk…
To be fair actors were blotto in pretty much every country on the planet
the blanked words were “Christ” and “Jesus Christ” btw. This isn’t sharia law country. or is it.
O'Toole, Harris+ Shaw are Irish not English
Shaw and O’Toole aren’t. Both were born in England and were brought up there. Shaw ended up living in Ireland; O’Toole made a lot of his Irish heritage but spent most of his life in England.
well they did make the death of stalin. a comedy
To see a beta like Conan or whatever his name is, interviewing the likes of Michael Caine is quite a contrast. 😂
She took the money from her sister and mom
My Cocaine.
he also has the distinction of being in one of the worst movies of all time in jaws 4.
Conan O'Brien's fake laugh gets on my nerves.
It's not fake if you believe in what you're laughing at. As for your nerves, just have a stiff drink and you'll feel much better. You might even laugh...
Drinking is no problem. Americans do drugs
.
Why are drinkers so proud of being drunks, anyone know why?
You obviously didn’t live through the sixties: all that happened was that people became inordinately proud of getting high all the time.
I admire and respect Caine…but do not need the raging alcoholic Peter O’Toole.
Conan has been talking over people and making lame jokes for decades since.

How glad we remain that the repellent Conan O’Brien is long gone.
We aren't left with any good hosts now.
If you are reading this right now, I pray you will get what you always pray for, I pray you will get the happiness you want in life, I pray things will work out for you. Never give up, good days are coming.❤️🙏
