That always gets me. The great Richard Burton...I hate it went Peter O' Toole and Richards Harris get mixed into it. They've always loved a drink...but O'Toole and Harris were always great souls.
You could really tell that Peter otoole and Richard Harris were genuinely great friends, and when it comes to actors they really don't make em like that anymore
Victoria Gadd Burton & O'Toole as well, think they would pop up in each other's movies. O'Toole was eviscerated by London critics, for Hamlet (?), Burton recalls calling him to commiserate in his diaries, he had to do all the talking, unusual for O'Toole.
Trust me, they do! These remarkable fellas had a rep theatre industry to work in, so they’d be doing 10-12 plays a year and constantly working and getting reviews and drinking and enjoying themselves. And becoming famous and going on talk shows to tell stories! Nowadays all the parts for actors are on telly and film and you have to eat well and drink smoothies and behave. If you’re a lucky sod like me and you get to do the odd play, you’ll meet amazing actors full of their own stories like these!
Harris and O' Toole would downright refuse "Heaven". Aside from the manager being a genocidal, slavery endorsing, baby killing maniac, they'd never tolerate the dull company.
oh my god I don't remember the last time I laughed so much at stories like these. That was incredible. And the storytelling skills of Harris are just unbelievable. He captures you with a single word and doesn't let you go.

Richard Harris knew what he was and was totally comfortable in his own skin.......... I'd have loved to have been in a bar with these two, oh the shenanigans !!! Bloody amazing talent too.
I LOVE these two gentlemen! It always amazes me when people dis' them for their drinking, all the while living their own mean excuses for lives. Harris and O'Toole knew the true art of enjoying every drop of life!!
They tell it wonderfully and the fact that it has been recounted, with variations, about untold actors going back to Edmund Kean and beyond diminishes it not a whit.
Yokie Miller Elizabeth Taylor - to name one - was notorious for being able to keep up, among other things. And she was petite! Of course, O'Toole weighed about 10 lbs.
Excellent! Harris, The Irish inside of him just bleeds through! haha The two are like a Lennon and Mccartney. Every show it's "tell us a story about Harris/O'Toole" Brilliant!
Yes, but if you eat and drink too much you cannot be merry, because your liver no longer functions, you cannot get an erection, and you start puking bile and shitting blood, eventually dying with the realization that you never really learned how to live, and that you were oblivious to all the people, places and things you would have known and loved if you had had your wits about you.
You can go through life without living it, these guys lived large and hard and were admired by all. Not sure I would or could do some of the things that these guys did, bury it would have been a blast to be a fly on the wall.
When I went to Ireland in 1976 with eight of my relatives, we visited all our Irish ancestors, cork Carlo and what I’m getting at is my stepdad at the time he was my stepfather till he died and I loved him with all my heart he told me to drink the Guinness And I wouldn’t get constipated. I’ll never forget it. I loved you, John Fennelly
In contrast, today some people think James Franco and Seth Rogen are "two wild and crazy guys." Anyway... Those actors of old partied hard and still turned in great work. John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Ward Bond and sometimes John Ford had some legendary benders.

It's great they both can remember most likely 100's of stories. Imagine a book of such stories from Harris O'Toole Burton Robert Shaw to name but a few.
I happened upon this video as a result of listening to Richard Burton speak of his own stories about drinking. He was also a good story teller, but these two guys are amazing! I'm literally in awe of their storytelling abilities. They all come from a time before all the electronic gadgets and social media apps. All the actors who appear on talk shows today could put you to sleep or make you want to change the channel.
That first story is the both the funniest and most Irish thing I've ever heard... "Madame, if you think I'm drunk just wait 'til O'Toole makes his entrance!"
Richard Harris once found himself on a train late at night. He was alone on this train without any idea how he got on it. At the end of the line. The conductor of the train told him he had to get off as the train was stopping for the night. He found himself in a terraced street in the early hours of the night. Throw in Richard Burton and Oliver Reed and you've got the Four Horsemen of Inebriety.
Riskmangler albert Finney and Christopher Plummer
René Moncayo Richard Burton and Peter Finch with Oliver Reed.

Love these Irish Gentlemen.. who added so much to my country..god bless them.. and Richard Harris's son is a great actor as well.
Does his son drink Evian at film premieres?!🤣

I've heard him(and O'Toole) tell the "Good God! Harris is drunk" story several times. I laugh like an idiot every time!

They tell it wonderfully and the fact that it has been recounted, with variations, about untold actors going back to Edmund Kean and beyond diminishes it not a whit.
Laura Thornton Many of these guys were more interesting, larger than life, than the characters they played.
