Loved this bloke ...I'm Welsh ...His house was a pilgrimage..I haven't been there yet ..But my butties went and his house was complete open door ...When he was walking the planet ..He would chat and make tea and cakes ..They were in awe ..NZ ...legend
Had the pleasure of seeing ( Pinetree) on the 63-64 Tour of the UK. My Late Father took me down to Cardiff for the game Wales vs New Zealand. I was a very young boy. I remember when the team's ran out, my Father said to me " There's Colin Meads see the size of him." I just couldn't believe it, the whole of The New Zealand side were big but Colin Meads was huge! This was my first introduction to International Rugby. I have never forgot some of the ABs Waka Nathan, Kelvin Tremain,Brian Lochore, to name but a few. The Captain of the ABs that day was the Great Sir Wilson Whineray. Also, i saw The Haka for the first time, and ive Respected ever since. Would you believe im Welsh through and through. God bless you Sir Colin Meads. Also Sir Wilson Whineray.
colyn that would the match at Cardiff where Clive Rowlands had to be stretchered off after a thump from Meads . An isolated incident ? Unfortunately no - there were many more to come from this rouge elephant of a man !
Thanks John for this video! I have selected "Pinetree" in my Childhood Heroes Team, when growing up in the 50's and 60's...I have posted 17 videos. Colin Meads, the greatest All - Black of all time, a legend and a gentleman. He visited my school in 1970, when he toured South Africa with Brian Lochore's All - Blacks, Garry, from Johannesburg, South Africa.
The late Sir Colin 'Pinetree' Meads one of the true legends of AB and world rugby. AB 1957-1971, 55 tests and 132 games in total for NZ. Not the biggest or tallest lock to play for the ABs or even the best lineout leaper but his overall game was rarely matched by his fellow team mates or opponents.
Met the great man at the mission estate in Napier at my mother's, 90 birthday just by chance,he had a meeting and had a hour to spare with Rodney green local business man and out he step from a car while was waiting for other family to arrive, wow shook his great big hand and l thought about all the rucks ,lineout, etc he had been in and i,m shaking his hand and just to stand next to him was a privilege
If there was a memory that sticks out, oddly enough, it was a Ranfurly Shield match with Mac Herewini playing full-back against King Country in 1961. Colin did not play, but his brother Stan did, Bill Wordley, always a Coffin in the KC team, Ian Ingham, KC stalwarts. Herewini's try was sublime. After a quiet game for him, out of nowhere he chimed in on the blindside, dummying and side-stepping to score putting Auckland ahead 17-3. These were the daze when later that season King Country beat Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, beat Counties, drew with Waikato. In fact their only losses were to Auckland and Poverty Bay. Couldn't do that these daze.
Hi Mel, Garry from South Africa. Colin scored that try under the posts against my home team Border. He signed my rugby book when he visited my school in 1970. I have selected Colin as a flank forward in my Childhood Heroes Team, when growing up in the 50's and 60's. I posted 17 videos. Please feel free to share with all Kiwi rugby followers.
What an awesome tribute to an amazing man....RIP to him and his wife

The only article on you tube I’ve ever seen with no dislikes
Not only a gentleman and phenomenal player but a true legend indeed.

My hero growing up as a grandson to an AB he personifies the spirt of an AB
My dream locking pair. Colin Meads and Frik du Preez. Nothing in the history of the game could match those two.
Oh yes. Both could run like the wind also, apart from being exceptional in tight play.
Willie John?
Great clip and photos rip sir colin meads a all round good bugger

What a player, what a man.
Saw Colin meads play for ABs Vs Boks in 1960 and 1970. Very much respected in South Africa.Good old days

I was at Murrayfield when CM got sent off. Our little group thought he was just clumsy, not malicious. We still lost the game!
Just found out he's my 5th cousin (1x removed), descended from the Connells of Bothwell, Scotland
The phrase "on the rampage" was invented for Colin Meads.
Some man. Hard as teak. Nice to see Bas Taylor nail him in the tackle for the B&L Lions though..
Apart from being one of the great tight forwards of the game, he could really move. He'd love the modern game.
The greatest ever
Hi Bede Ashby, Garry from South Africa. The "GREATEST" All Black of all time along with Springbok GREAT Frik du Preez.
The GOAT All Black
In any era.
Respect
Rip Colin meads
I reckon John Eales was the best I've seen. He could do everything. He even kicked goals under pressure. Was never a dirty player either.
Is it true that as a sheep farmer he'd snatch up a sheep under each arm and run up hill on his farm with them struggling like hell to escape?
The way Pinetree moved and the speed was like a centre David Jamison
what game is the try at about 1:30 from?
