I was 8 years old when I first saw the All Blacks. First saw the Haka. And first saw Colin Meads. I have been a fan of all three ever since. Nice to see Sir Colin. Bit of a time lag, but that is the beauty of youtube
As a young (English) Marine Engineer Officer I had the good fortune to meet the great man at Masterton Rugby club after the first game of the 1977 Lions tour. Myself and another chap from the ship were introduced to him and I recall his height and massive hands that seemed to be hewed from wood. A very polite giant of a man.
Legend. Still spoken of with such reverence and respect here in South Africa. Can only imagine what it would have been like to listen to Frik du Preez, Willie John and Sir Colin.
Still an imposing figure even though hes old. Would have loved to have seen him in his prime against todays players, show em how its done lol You The Man Colin
Would be fascinated to see what these men would have looked like with today’s training, diet & conditioning. Obviously mentally tough guys - but to have those things too?...
He had a role to play in ensuring the opposition didn't get away with anything themselves I agree. But to say he was a total thug shows aa appraent lack of appreciation.of rugby and the mans skill to dominate at the highest level.
So what. That was how they played in those times and every team from wherever you’re from in the world, who played back then, had their own ‘enforcer’s’
By the way, we call it a paddock in NZ, or a field, not a pitch. traditionally (in NZ at least) many of the players were hardy farmers. A lot of changes were made when the game became professional.
Unfortunately, when a man stoops to crippling the best player in the world, by deliberately tearing his hamstring off the bone while that player is pinned to the ground by several All Blacks - I'm sorry, but that man ceases to ever be funny, or worthy of any respect. Colin Meads is not worthy to kiss Ken Catchpole's boots.
Fuz well said, unfortately it was not an isolated incident, Jeff Young, Cliff Morgan and Dai Morris can attest to that. This rouge elephant should have been culled decades ago.
@@JarmoNZ203 Trolls don't use historical facts as I did in my post. Nothing trollish about it. Colin Mead is lower than Loe - and more gutless than Peter Fitzsimons against the French.
Sad that this comment presumes that any player in that era of rugby would co-exist with the morals and so called stoicism of pom public schools. Whoa!!! from the home of soccer's hooligan's. All forwards players of that time came from the code of decency in rugby ....not!. There's a wider view here no excuses, your right your opinion.
Meads claims it wasn't deliberate .He was told by the coaches to not let Catchpole burrow into the pack He grabbed Catchpole by the leg to clear him out of the ruck and didn't know his other leg was trapped under other bodies.
Much respect from England Sir Colin, a giant of a man in every respect!

Good to see Sir Colin chopping back a beer as he goes along.

I was in awe of pine tree when he walked on the Main Street of Taumarunui back in the day ,what a player
He mentioned Willie J! Marvellous!
Meads is still the best 2nd row I've ever seen.

The living legend in the flesh.
Funny and interesting. A real Kiwi legend.
Meads always seemed even bigger than he was - especially on the pitch.
RIP great one

Legendary rip
The Mack!

King Country Hard!!!
The 3 All Black forwards who played back in the 1960's who would have been stars in todays game are Colin Meads ,Ken Gray and Ian Kirkpatrick.

Trouble is, Meads was a total thug on the pitch
