Bob Duff was my grandfather. I loved hearing BJ mention his name at the start of this tribute. RIP Brian You will be missed. One of the greats of All Black rugby.
A real man. Humbled before him. He made the 87 world Cup come alive. Taking the All Blacks to the provincial towns making the All Blacks our team and letting the ABs know what they were playing for. He saved rugby in NZ and made it what it is today both nationally and internationally. Recquiescet in pace Sir Brian
Our Godfather of New Zealand Rugby RIP Legendary Man. Our Condolences to your wife and family. Also thanks to your wife Pam and your kids to sacrifice their lives as you have achieved your goals as true inspiration All Blacks player, selector, coach and management. You are a True Legend of World Rugby!! Les we forget!!
I met Sir Brian Lochore at the Ponsonby rugby club back in 2006 along with Sir Bryan 'Bee Gee' Williams . Sir Brian was a truly humble man who found time for me . Sir Brian was kind and so well spoken . Sir Brian embodied the addage 'on the field they are men of granite, off the field true gentlemen '
He passed on my birthday. I have a birthday memory of Dad telling how he and his best friend (Best Man too) raised a glass to my birth and health (Mum and I were at the maternity home for a few days no doubt) after watching the All Blacks beat the Springboks. I thought just now: Sir Brian would be the captain that day(?), so I check my Men in Black and sure enough, 8th of August 1970, ABs 9 SA 8 and BJ Captain.
Had the great privilage to meet both Sir Brian Lochore and Collin Meads during my playing days, two of the greatest players and really down to earth blokes..BJ would have been gutted to lose his great mate Collin, rest in peace guys...
I cried my heart out when I heard Sir Brian passed away. He was a massive man. The word 'Legend" is often bandied around these days but Sir Brian James Lochore was the epitome of a Legend to me and millions of Kiwis. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. May you rest in peace, Sir.
Why does the passing of an All Black legend affect us South African rugby fans so much? Because, the All Blacks are the only foe worth respecting and their loss becomes our loss. I salute this great man, and the wonderful nation he comes from. okiokinga i roto i te hoa rangimarie. I hope that is how you say it.
Us NZ 's who know their rugby history feel exactly the same when a great Springbok passes. That's what makes us so connected. Our rugby history together.
From a South African perspective, I want to salute one of the great Kiwis and gentlemen of the game. Springbok supporters also hurt when one of our great foes/friends pass away.
My god this tugged the heart strings Every time i saw him on the media i knew there was something you had to respect in this gentleman. Sympathy to families and friends...
Sir Brian Lochore one of the greatest ABs captain, player, and later AB s coach ever. No 8 in the ABs team from 1963-1971 and captain from 1966-1970 amazingly leading the team to 14 straight test wins until the first test against the Boks in 1970. First RWC winning NZ coach in 1987. True legend.
My Dad used to talk about you ,how great you were for rugby and nr 8 ,rugby servant and great man ,salute from SA
