Watching you suffer through Barbie movies makes me happy because you’re willing to go through it but sad because you’re not going to enjoy it like I did.
@@SelenaY.1331 I can't speak for Welchy, but I personally have found that it is possible to both despise a movie and love it at the same time. It's so bad it's good, and the experience of watching it and making fun of it is enjoyable. Fun and ridiculous and chaotic twists that don't occur in most other stories that make it enjoyable despite the bad parts. The sheer bold audacity these movies have to confidently make such ridiculous content is enjoyable. I'm not saying all the Barbie movies are like this, simply that it's possible for one to subjectively feel this way. We all enjoy and express our enjoyment in different ways :)
It’s a barbie movie, it’s supposed to be stupid camp fun! me saying it’s ridiculous or stupid is because that’s what it is, and they own that! (It’s so bad it’s good type) I love watching these movies cause it’s just ridiculous and fun 🤣

The fact that this was the FIRST barbie movie, they used real ballerinas for the animation and just the amount of subtle messaging, the fact that Aunt Drosselmeyer said she danced with a King, the King being Eric’s dad, and her giving Clara Eric/Nutcracker, bringing Eric to reunite with Clara and calling him the son of a dear friend, is INSANE. A great movie and great commentary 🤍
The voice of the Mouse King is Tim Curry known for the parts of Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Pennywise from the It (1990) and the Concierge/mr Hector from Home Alone 2. This man is an international treasure.
This is so funny to me because, due to the nostalgia I experience watching these movies, I actually love the shitty animation and hate the newer animation lmao. Barbie looks so different now than back then. Now she looks more like a child, back then she looked like a young adult. She also acts differently. Old barbie was gentle, elegant, kind, intelligent and witty, now she just seems to be a brand. Barbie is the reason why I got interested in classical music and ballet. The old barbie movies taught class, kindness, grace and even culture without it feeling forced. What kind of shows for kids use classical music? None. It easily explained classical pieces and ballet to children and I love that. But I also understand looking at it from your point of view and being weirded out 😂
Just by the way, Baby Einstein and their Disney show Little Einsteins uses classical music. The Disney show probably wasn't around when you were a kid but Baby Einstein has been around since '96.
@@kenzij oh yeah I know little Einsteins, you're right! Still, Barbie is so unique, I wish more kids shows and movies would focus on teaching culture this way
Welchy always sides with the Barbie villains and seems genuinely disappointed each time they inevitably fail, and I'm living for it 🤣 Merry Christmas!🎄
In the original Hoffman story the girl (Mary/Marie, later renamed Clara) was supposed to be seven years old, so her talking to her dolls made perfect sense. Though it was pretty creepy that she and the nutcracker had a romance when she was so young. Barbie is old enough for romance, but it's absurd to see her fussing over a doll like this. A lot of versions sort of split the difference and make the girl around twelve or so, just entering adolescence. So it works for her to still be interested in dolls and toys but also old enough to start an interest in romance.
This was the first Barbie movie. It has a special place in my heart. I love it so much. This story is based on "The Nutcracker" from the ballet. There's many movies about "The Nutcracker". My favorite ones is "The Nutcracker (2010)" and "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms"! I hope you will react to them one day! Merry Christmas Welchy! 😊💖🎁🎄
The funny thing is, the "cliche music" is actually The Nutcracker Ballet music- It BETTER be a great villain voice. Cause that's Tim Curry. =) What's also amazing is that Prince Eric is voiced by Kirby Morrow and Clara(Barbie) is voiced by Kelly Sheridan. Both have voiced Miroku and Sango from the anime InuYasha.
Of all the Barbie movies I watched as a kid, this one was always my favorite. So much so I took ballet lessons...that I eventually stopped taking because I wasn't dancing like Barbie.
6:00 The context is that, in the ballet, this moment in the story is the Waltz of the Snowflakes, so they represent the snowflakes and it's the same thing for this scene 11:23, the Waltz of the Flowers, where the fairies represent flowers.
The reason why it's worse to be early to a party than late is because most people are still setting up and preparing for the party until the time they tell people to arrive. If someone shows up early, you're still prepping, but if they're late, everything's set up. I only understood this when I started hosting parties.
Welchy needs to watch Barbie and a Christmas Carol. I need a reaction to Barbies personality in that so bad. It's like the complete opposite of Barbie in a Nutcracker. Something tells me that may be his favorite version of her.
Love this movie! Definitely a must watch every year during Christmas! Love your Barbie reactions! Nutcracker is one of my favorite ballets ever. I’ve always wanted to play Clara in the nutcracker. The rat king used to scare the flip out of me as a little kid. Highly recommend react to Barbie princess and the pauper, 12 dancing princesses and Island princess! Love the videos! You do a amazing job!
as someone who used to dance and was a huge nutcracker enjoyer this was the one barbie movie I couldn't stand as a kid because the plot was so different lol. But clara in the original is like 12 at MOST so having a like 17 year old doing the talking to the doll and stuff does come across a bit. weird. Also it's drosselmeyer because they're all german in the nutcracker and originally drosselmeyer is the weird rich godfather who shows up late to the christmas party and gives a ton of expensive gifts to the kids
God, I was *6 years old* when this movie came out. I still remember slipping the CD into the computer to watch this movie. I think this is what solidified my love for ballet and ballet stories. I thank my dad for buying this CD for me, to this very day, now as a woman in her late 20s; I thoroughly enjoy going to watch ballet performances with him. Thank you for reacting to my childhood movie, Welchy, I just want to genuinely say that 😊

I'm so surprised that Disney didn't sue Mattel for using the name of Prince Eric. Although, that would make an interesting movie, to see Prince Eric leave Princess Ariel for Barbie! 😁🤣😂
I dont know if you know, but this is THE first barvie movie, and they only had like 20 animators, one dedicated to barbies hair. I believe they animated the movie in 4-6 months

I don’t really remember a lot about this film. I had it On DVD. And I know that it was based on the nutcracker and… it was the first Barbie movie like CGI ones. And the Beginning. 4:00 That’s Tim Curry.
I'm pretty sure this story is actually older than Narnia. It was written by E. T. A. Hoffmann, a German author, back in the 19th century, which would also fit the time in which Clara lives in this film. In my opinion, it is actually the best movie of this book that was ever made. It combines the story with the ballet, which I love, the fairies make it even more magical and whimsical, the Nutcracker is an interesting character with character development, and Barbie is kind and pretty smart throughout the movie. Eric and Clara have good chemistry (for a Barbie movie) and the plot is good, too. As in, stuff happens, and we get to know why it happens. And I guess, without Clara, the nutcracker would have never gone back home to challenge the Mouse King, so she wasn't totally useless🤷🏽♀️ And her dress is pretty, and it's a Christmas-themed movie, so I love it! 💁🏽♀️ It was fun watching you react to it, and I can't wait for you to react to the other Christmas Barbie movies.😈 You're not ready for this...
