Thanks for your opinion. I do not think man was born from chaos. I think that man evolved from his environment it can be harsh but, it certainly sustains all life. Man loves to fight, you for instance like to call names and argue. I like to use reason and cooperation to achieve understanding. This is what Jung may have been referring to when he said we need more understanding of man for we are the origin of all coming evil. So we have a choice what will we do? Thanks for your contribution.

Anger can be a great tool of motivation, it is not evil in itself. There are positive forms of anger as well as very negative and you can tell much about an individual by what upsets them. If one doesn't look around at some of the shit going on around the world and not feel anger well something is wrong either that person is in total disconnect with the times or is totally ignorant of it.
I would go so far as to say that ignorance more so than evil is the greatest threat to our species for it is through our ignorance that evil has been able to thrive.
Just as relevant today as when man first started existing. Murder, wars, rapes, torture, disregard for other living beings, for the earth. We can learn and change. We CAN.

0:35 - "The only real danger that exists is Man himself. He is the great Danger. And we are pitifully unaware of it. We know nothing of Man. Far too little. His psyche should be studied because We are the origin of all coming Evil." - Carl Gustav Jung
What Jung deliberately (and rightly so) omits is the concomitant counterpart to that axiom: that man is also the origin of beneficence. He emphasizes here our potential for evil as a warning for a trend he intimated on the horizon; that the bad was beginning to tip the cosmic scale, but do not take this motif out of context, for misanthropy Ill becomes us. If anyone is going to save this show it is us. Even if it’s our right hand wrestling with our left.
@@nickevers9263 Very spot on. Jung is similar to the Buddha here when Buddha declared life to be suffering - of course life is both suffering as well as pleasure, but the lesson of pleasure is not the lesson we needed to learn. Simmerley, no one wants to be seen to be acting or doing anything evil today. It's this negation of the fact that pure evil exists within us which gives evil is its power and control. As you rightly say, we must learn this lesson ourselves - and fast, I might add.
A big meteorid would hardly be man's fault... Sometimes we have to unstuck our heads out of our behinds and look at the real psysical world. That's my only problem with jungian thinking. Too much navel gazing

"We know nothing of man, far too little" It's even worse, because we pretend to know everything. We rationalise our actions, we tell ourselves that we never did anything wrong, that everything is fine... even if our own actions are insane.
I had an argument with a friend last night, she was reacting frantically and angrily because she had read a book written by a Dutch Psychologist that claims that Humans are essentially good and altruistic and most people are peaceful, to know peace you must know violence, not only this i believe peace is just an interruption of human nature, she even argued against repeated cases glaring in history, saying that situations creat these behaviours not that humans are ' bad'. Humans are violent, greedy and territorial. The only thing humans are interested in whether they realise it or not is survival/instinct ,everthing else is secondary. Humans did not get to where they are today by being peaceful non-violent and altruistic. Another point worth mentioning, Chimpanzees are generally considered to be our closest relatives ( she even argued against that) anyway Chimps only survived because of a male dominance hierarchy....
What we did evolutionarily to Get here is irrelevant to what we do From here. To conflate past trends with potential future nature is a misstep that ill becomes you and runs contravene to the concept of evolution itself. Don’t allow misanthropy towards the cruel and myopic members of our society to obfuscate our potential for good.
@Michael S. Camus, I think. The abstract concept of _general utility_ has motivated me for the whole of my life. Selfish, of course, even when the outcome is generally useful. It has cost me ridicule in the past (a small price to pay!), perhaps because my accusers really couldn't see the utility in what I was doing. Pft.

Every man has the capacity for good or evil, heroics or depravity. What defines him is which side he chooses to nourish. And it’s a choice that must be made every moment of every day.
He treated combat shocked soldiers and war affected civilians so I surmise he is referring to the evils of war and man's pathologically destructive behavior. So, I think he defines evil as the things that men and women do that are destructively born from an illness of the mind

It sounds more like a call to understand the inner shadow and potential for terror that is inherent in the human experience. The more we can shine a light on this part of the self, the more we can integrate it in a way that is not destructive but in a way that makes us whole.
We are all shades of evil clinging to the acts another we have never met, in vein hope that it is a salvation for our race. If the gods came together to charge our species with it's crimes, there would be no external punishment, because the greatest punishment is to let us keep living as ourselves, and with each other.

@@SistoActivitatemAtm Sorry Carl Jung said, God is not in the capacity of human intelligence, we just make interpretation of God... we say God said this blah blah blah. God made this blah blah blah. When did Jung said that then?
Intellect is incredibly important, and only certain people in possession of real intellect and evolved minds know what to do with this intellect. Not everyone in strong enough, capable enough, or responsible enough to ever possess an evolved mind or spirit. Even those that have are usually consumed by ego or some other agenda. Human beings are limited in their capacity, and we are not close to being as perfect as we like to think we are.
We are a mystery to ourselves, the search for purpose and meaning to life is extraordinary in everything we do.... Suffice to say, the tremendous amount of book burning that's gone on historically reinforces our search for meaning our struggle with being....no wonder lots of people are so trapped in their personas and suffer as a consequence. As Tesla quite rightly said though that 'everything is the light' and that is meaning enough. Best wishes...
Curriously enough, someone who has done this seeks for a much greater purpose in his life. He sees that happiness is only the twinkle of the star, not even the light itself.
Do you think animals know what good and evil are? those terms identify concepts born of human imagination and conceptualisation. Sure some species feel pain and happiness, but for an animal to experience either notion, they would have to also be able to experience the human understanding of it. Knowing this when he said "We are the origin of all coming evil", it's therefor disingenuous if he did not also say "and we are also the origin of all coming good". This is important to bring focus on, because knowing he didn't say that changes the entire context of the clip. Try more to understand why people say what they say, rather than cherry picking a meaning from something that's completely out of context.
Ancient stories of the fallen banished from the garden by a superior being. As we find our time spent in a bubble surrounded by abyss trying to escape. Synchronicity brought this to me since I have begun to pontificate on these things. Good luck to us all on escaping this and returning to our garden 🙏
I read Jung’s book “Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle” several times as research. Synchronicity is a difficult concept to grasp because we are so conditioned to thinking in terms of cause and effect. Mike Romeo Author, “From the Anthem City”
In history of humanity Man had many chances ( ww1.ww2) to take a point in time to contemplate about himself. I personally believe that Man will destroy not only nature but also himself. Hence no place for grieve because no one will be left.
Chris Jones Many animals do this. Take cats for instance, playing with (and torturing) the mice. The human animal just do it in a more complicated way.
Not to defend itzhaylife, because i have no real idea of what he was trying to say, so on a quite seperate note, what do you mean by evil? As hamlet said "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so", so it's fundamentally subjective, no?
Intellect is important as the lack of it is getting us into trouble; we are not responsible, you are right. The world is run by the greedy and we as a whole are far from capable, this has to change if mankind is to survive. Most people dont even know they have an ego, that they made it and it is secretly running their lives. It is the discovery of it that can turn things around; if they are capable they can control it and use their intellect and spirituality to run their lives.
I believe he was well on the way to solving our problems but the medical community has chosen to lull us into oblivion with drugs instead of continuing. his work and delving into the psyche so that we can understand why we do the atrocious things we do and correct them. This is the most important thing there is. I am here because I understand it all one has to do is read his work and become enlightened...
I couldn't agree more with that statement, lately I've just seen all this division and it is literally everything no one is truly looking inwards and thinking for themselves be it political dogmatism or believing misinformation about the virus, literally everything is a political tool, but if we looked inside ourselves for once and tried to understand our own flaws and behavior instead of looking at other things and ideas for our own salvation then maybe we could find solutions to every issue we face most of which man has brought upon himself, however I even noticed that personality typing and psychology are political tools, not to a large extent as everything else but once you find your own personality type, I notice even then people like to categorize each other into neat little stereotypes, all these problems and no solution... it's quite tiresome
I am not looking to catagorize my personality or anyone's. But diversity not homogeneity is optimal for survival of species even if that upsets fragile minds.
This is why when I hear people, on the topic of aliens, say "Oh they are going to invade us". I always ask "Why do you assume they are malevolent? Did you ever consider maybe we're the bad guys in the universe and you're just projecting your own failings onto aliens to make yourself feel like the good guy?"
Also the concept of eternal suffering being possible in this universe makes it so that the aliens who are advanced enough to travel through space will also have to answer this question, because even if they don’t possess the same biological build for pain as ours, they’d at least know it’s something that exists and possible to impose among themselves, and compassion is the only way out of that hell that they are able to create due to the fact that they are so advanced. They will be able to genetically engineer their enemies to be immortal and torture them non-stop.
I am not making any excuses for man; I understand his nature to be evil because he is violent for selfish desire. The violence of the earth that you refer to is part of the nature of the universe, is not violence born of evil. It is the birth of a living breathing biosphere and all the life that inhabits it. You can call me names like weak all you want for I would rather be weak than evil and if I am killed no matter for I am in good company. Dictionary definition chaos; disorder, anarchy.
@ChocolateyChocobo13 If you are self-honest, you see that there is no choice. Either one walks as the response through self-realisation or walks according to the reaction to/of the system. All dependend on that what is here when you are born or is realised through experiences. Action-Reaction = no choice.

Wonder if this was recorded after WW II. Jung's work with archetypes was valued by the Nazis. Whereas Wilhelm Reich was ostracized by the emerging Psychology community for writing "The Mass Psychology of Fascism". Interesting times indeed.
@@walkertongdee I didn't know that. I simply agree with his assessment that evil doesn't come from without but from within. Like how Jesus said " it's not what enters a man that defiles him but what comes out of his mouth" the parallel of other ideologies, showing good and evil or even mostly good is completely contradictory to the idea of what Christ teaches, which is, we are the evil and we must actively fight against ourselves and a lot of our natural desires, because a lot of natural desires are evil. Just thought it was an interesting philosophical topic, not shoving anything down anybodys throats
I disagree. man is basically good. everyone in their lives has done something we know it wasn't right to do yet did it anyway for any number of reasons. The fact that we knew it was something unethical, something "wrong" something that did not benefit the whole, You I your family a group makind, animals the planet spirit god, proves that man is good and that we have good intentions to our fellows. When a man continues to do something that he knows is not right he will seek to lessen his ability
The truth is we cant control our emotions yet....Technological development of man growths exponentially, emotionally we are still animals to an extend....we must learn to control emotions, turn hate, jaleousy, envy, greed, anger into empathy and love....this is what Jesus and dalai lama, ghandi and Jung try to say....why cant we learn this...learn to forgive, learn that if somebody angers you its not his fault, but yours that you fall victim to your emotions, stop being susceptible to others
@DaveLeech1989 Read my post i said nothing about good or bad but destruction and misfortune like to our planet, or as in suffering. Yes we label good and bad, give it an existence by the brain coming from knowledge acquired through our senses or our ideas based on experiences based from believed thought. So no i don't wish to believe in good and bad? An hierarchical list of the most important things down to the least would never work because we create whats important to us.
No species can grow forever, we are not separate from nature, we are nature.... we balance ourselves just like another life form. We die like everything, our technology has allowed us to see death around the earth. However this death has happened for centuries, now we can see it. Naturally our empathy would want to correct it, sadly it cannot. People will always die. We are playing a game of musical chairs, where someone loses... This life... Is chaos.
pls don't quote stats without some kind of citation - otherwise its rubbish. And even if there were such a survey, the definition of "evil" alone is highly subjective so any questionnare used would be very open to criticism; also, one can't talk about the inherent evil of person's nature with out considering the nature of the environment; all men are capable of "evil" in certain circumstances
@Darrell861 My data is that you wrote this message. The tone of your message make me distrust it is a real dream, I don't know. My interpretation of your message is that you do not like Jung psychology at all, specially. In answer to your final comment I can add, as researcher, that we need people developing new paradigms and methodologies. Of course, they can not be trained in! No university offers degree on pioneering!
@Darrell861 Dear Darrell, as a scientist I can not agree with you. Most of my work is in mathematical physics so I do reflect a lot about the nature of data and its quantitative and qualitative analysis. Of course, dreams and fantasies are as real as the blood pulse is, and therefore data. To consider some data as anecdotal or essential is always a subjective, and generally consensual, choice.
Jung had alot more to give to the feild of Psychology than just dream interpretations. he was the father of Pyscho-anlysis and was a major advocate in dealing with the importance of the subconcious, which lead to his studies and interpretations of dreams. And saying that "dream interpretations," is bullshit because it isnt an exact science can be applied to the whole feild of Pyschology itself. If you truly beleive he wasn't wothy of being a historical figure then you haven't studied him.
@Darrell861 Walkertongdee has a good point, people come on youtube to discredit others with only thier own opinions and beliefs on things, you're lacking hard evidence or any sources to prove any of your beliefs, other than your claim that you're a "licensed professional psyciatrist". I have a P.H.D in every subject known to man, does typing that make me more believable? I think not. Experience is what you must live by, then you will know the truth for yourself. Love and light to all.
and just incase you didnt notice. the topic of this clip was "we are the evil." Advocating Jungs theory of collective consciousnes and how the atrocities commited by any human can be attributed to the collective conscience of all human beings. meaning we may have not commited the evil but we as humans are all so closely connected that the capacity to commit these attrocities lies within us all. So i hardly see why a debate on CC is somehow off topic.
i put "jungian" in quotations because its an obsolete word. if you subscribe whole heartedly to one mans views then yes i suppose you could call yourself a "jungian" beleiver or whatever but i wouldnt agree with anyone calling me that. as far as him wanting everyone to follow his own religion. true he was christian but even he was villified by the christians for pointing out some of their hypocrosies and short commings. Being aware is a double edged sword.

I strongly believe introspection will save the world
"We know nothing of man, far too little"
It's even worse, because we pretend to know everything.
@Michael S. Pretty much...I don't think anyone does anything out of pure selflessness ..
@Michael S. Camus, I think. The abstract concept of _general utility_ has motivated me for the whole of my life. Selfish, of course, even when the outcome is generally useful. But in the end, we see that both are two sides of the same coin, One in their essence and interchangeable, depending on your viewpoint.
Thx for this vid!

"I am the danger. I am the one who knocks!" Breaking Bad meme crossed with Spider-Man pointing at himself but Spider-Man is Mankind.
To redeem the study of the psyche is less than a minute long endeavor. The beauty of brevity

Epic comment, scientific and earth shattering, I love doctor FAUCI …

@@walkertongdee I didn't know that. I simply agree with his assessment that evil doesn't come from without but from within.

@Darrell861
Walkertongdee has a good point, people come on youtube to discredit others with only thier own opinions and beliefs on things, you're lacking hard evidence or any sources to prove any of your beliefs, other than your claim that you're a "licensed professional psyciatrist".
And to say he had no respect for any individual culture is simply misguided.
