All rights belong to Valve. Why? Because I don't own Half-Life! DUH!
This is the main menu song from Half-Life, the PS2 version. I feel that the entire Half-Life series it self is underrated. So what would be more underrated than a great PC game? THE CONSOLE VERSION OF COURSE, now I understand that some weirdos prefer console FPS games and that the console version may be how the game came to be known, However I do prefer the PC version to the PS2 version and I know that this menu song couldn't be in HL:S but why not the first HL!? oh well...
I remember playing this way back in 2002 while in High School. I was obsessed with Half-Life then and even though I had the Adrenaline Pack (HL1, OP Force and Blue Shift) I still saved up money from my grocery bagger job to buy this on PS2.
Me and my friend loved it and when we beat Decay the first night at his house, I stayed over and we fell asleep to this on loop. Ahh, good times.
+stilnoxVisions This loop works as sleep music surprisingly well.
There's that nice calming effect in it.
+WiseEndro333 very true
+stilnoxVisions live, breath half life
Right on man. I'm in high school now and my great friend and I played through Decay over a couple months, ah what a great expansion pack
I'm in my freshman year now and still won't stop playing HL1. Good thing I have the Adrenaline Pack as well.
Creepy and unsettling, but also cool and catchy music, perfect for the half life menu, wish this was on PC as well.
On the Sierra alpha version it had this music however that version is long gone
@@apolisdoesstuff8647 it was also on the retail release iirc
I think the cd version of the game has this music
well you need hl1 as least
@@42sevencan't remember if i used a patch or a cd player emulator but there's no title music for me in the Sierra version
Sounds like music you'd hear on the menu of an old flash game from the 2000s

This game made my PS2 very hot and noisy when it ran. Sometimes, when I was sick and I felt cold, I used to put my console, while it was running Half Life, on my feet. And sometimes, I still remained in the main menù listening this music.
hahaha funny.....
I also remember this game ran loud as hell on Playstation 2 and that was because this game was on CD ROM (blue disc) instead of DVD ROM like 95% of Playstation 2 games, so the disc needed to be spun much faster in order to read the data.
that’s hilarious
Sounds like my laptop when I run God of War
what a poor kid you were lol. Had to use a PS2 to warm up hahahaha lolololol. Hispanic family and Hispanic parents lol

Man this has such an x-files vibe mixed with half life. Unreal!
now we just need a mix between x-files, half-life, and unreal

@@viannizvnv7222 half-life is basically a mix of x-files and unreal
Quote from Ben Houge, the composer for this epic theme:
“I was called in at the last minute to compose music for the main interface screen of the PlayStation 2 version of the immensely successful game Half-Life.” One of the best themes of all time!!
Me and my friend used to sing "Loa-ding!" for those sonar-like sounds in the track because this game was the best at loading on his ps2, sometimes didn't even start.
Loading wasn't a problem for me, although it was at every corner
Haha can relate that's my kind of humour
This track for me perfectly captures the atmosphere and the mystery of the Black Mesa Complex and makes me long to visit them again as Gordon: long, corridors full of half-shadows, giant pits, mysterious and secret experiments, super tech and alien worlds...
Its almost like capturing the entire of black mesa in one track, from the beggining to the end.
man how old are u rn?
It's sad that this doesn't play on the menu of the PC version...hell NOTHING plays on the PC menu! That's so sad this fits perfectly!
With the help of modifications, however, it's possible to have this playing during the main menu.
Ben Cournwick I'm gonna be *that guy* and call triple bullshit.
Ben Cournwick Do I hear a *quin-bullshit*?
Ben Cournwick
I'll up the ante and skip straight to kilo-bullshit.
The PC version does play the menu music if it is put on the CD, but that is only the... CD version. There's a way to do it on Steam, but it plays through the loading screen and in the game as well.

Better textures and models
Better main menu
Split Screen deathmatch and coop (Half Life Decay)
Exclusive Deathmatch levels
Exclusive alien cheat
New elements in HUD
AI of soldiers in enhanced; now they can kick grenades
Extended Levels
Long Jump with sound effect and easy to use (only jump again in mid air)
Bug fixes (yes, even more than 2021 PC version)
The best Gordon Freeman model in game i have ever seen (Half Life 2 box doesnt count)
This version is very underrated, it has a lot of content and is polished... Half Life 1 in PC is awesome, but in PS2 is one of my favorite videogames... And if you dont like the joystick, you can even connect mouse and keyboard to the PS2!!!!
@nigge r hd models pack in ps2 is like an upgrade of the pc, chargers and characters like gordon or the scientist has a model that looks even more detail. I never understand why some people dislike but well, personal opinions...
I would even say that HL on PS2 is my favorite Half Life game....
The exclusive DM levels in the PC version are meh. They were ported not so long ago.
@@XanderNiles The PS2 DM maps were ported to PC? Oh, i didnt know, you can give me a link plz?
Btw i disagree, i love them, the problem is that remember that the maps were made with 2p splitscreen in mind. Thats because some of them are small.

I remember beating the campaign of this game three times (one on easy, second on medium, last one on hard) and decay (i just started on hard) and this song always cooled me off after my long adventure of kickassery. Especially after beating Nihilanth on the campaign. God, good times.
Nostalgia on playing this on PS2....... I've got the PC version though but man this song was awesome!!!

This was the best menu loop ❤️🙏🏻😍
Ah.. Memories... :) The greatest memories!
I've been looking for this for a while. Beautiful track, still pops in my head from time to time.
Ah the memories and nostalgia, I was only like 7 or 8 when first playing this with my older brother who was 16 at the time, he taught and showed me video games, my first ever game was San Andreas on the ps2, still hate that fucking train mission, but I'd remember play half life 1 so much, especially decay, I'd always try and be the red one (Dr Greene I think) and my older brother and i would try and save as many scientist and security guards as we could and we loved head to head, I remember the warehouse map with the indestructible crates and the emplaced m2 browning machine gun and we'd always race to get to it and in most cases I ended up dying but that was ok. Christ I miss those days, and I miss my older brother, I'm 16 now and my little sister is in my younger shoes, I thinks it's time to pull out the old Playstation 2 and show her what my older brother showed me...
Impressive
The warehouse map on head-to-head was my favourite map! I used to play as Soldier and run to the Browning M2 and was accused of camping by my father whom used to play with me :)
Honestly sounds sick. Someone needs to make a song with this beat
Indeed, a hit in the childhoods. A theme that has the sounds and beats of the programmer world set in the theme of science and fiction. A story hidden within the endless data and visualized in the eyes of Gordon Freeman.
This sounds like the type of music you would hear in a movie theatre before the movie starts
Sml reuploaded lmao
You can put this song on the main menu of PC version:
Download this song and rename the file "gamestartup"
Copy the file and paste it on Half Life/valve/media
And that's all!
P.D: Sorry for my english xd
I wish they added this to the 25th anniversary update
They also need to add the PS2 HD pack and level geometry.

This is the official theme song of old SML at this point
This is wonderful. So much nostalgia I can't even handle it, Half-Life was a really big part of my childhood.
This port is hands down the greatest port of any game that I've ever played. It adds so much god damn content to it. Half-life 1 is so awesome: the more I learn about it, the more I am intrigued and in love with it. Also this main theme, probably my favorite Half life track. Fight me bitch!
Totally agree. Along with Doom port for the PS1, Half Life on PS2 is my favorite port to play, heck! I even prefer it over the PC version. Both feels like a celebration of the original and i love it.
This brings chills down my spine...
Good old times, I love Half-Life series :)
I have this game on the PC, and don't have the PS2 version anymore despite it being the first version I played. Every time I boot up the PC version, I expect to hear this, only to forget that it's not there. This track definitely helped define the game for me, it set up the atmosphere perfectly. Man, I miss the PS2 days........them were good times back then.
One of the best games to ever have been created: gave Newell should never be bothered about any new half life games, we all know it's an epic project and he wants to build it as best he can.
5 years later, it’s been proven right. Half-Life: Alyx really is the newest epic Half-Life game after many years.
I can't stop hear that!!!
dabhdude is definetly a person for using this
This song reminds me of my childhood (HL1 on PS2 was one of my first Videogame-Memories)
Here I am on my 23rd Birthday, still listening, still feeling nostalgic.... This Theme encompasess My Childhood for me
Please hold, while we try to put an operator on the line.

This theme reminds me a lot of the menu theme from Shogo. I think the name of the song is red riot.
I want a sequel of it soooo bad. Hope Monolith can take a break from their current games and go on with NOLF and Shogo. Hell even a new Condemned game would be nice
I think it's really sweet you made a little tribute to your cat in the end. Great music, great video.

there's more than one game, and as far as I know they are all canon.
Playing HL PS2 version was really a masterpiece back then.

What a melodic music theme for a legendary first-person shooter game.
i only got like a few chapters in the ps2 version and i lobed every single second. I didnt get into the story because my friend would always want to kick my ass in deathmatch. I later got the valve pack on steam. I couldnt play the original because it wasnt compatible with a xbox controller, so i played the source version which was basically a digitaly remastered version. And i love every moment in that game. I look forward into beating it. A masterpiece made in 1998 as valves first game, and it still holds up today. The second is better, but i like sticking to part 1 best. All in all,it is a wonderful game.
