FAQ Q: Why reupload??? (for the millionth time) A: When I made the original fact videos I was using my phone's shitty mic, recording and uploading in 720p on a cheap laptop, and in general didn't polish things as much as I could have. I've had plenty of comments about these problems and I couldn't really disagree. I couldn't even run with all the graphics settings on high, when NOT recording. Now I have an actual microphone and record in 1440p 60 fps with much better bitrate. Some lines are re-written to work better. The intense red effect from dying has been reduced to make it easier to see and not give you a headache. Text has been added to places where commands are used so people don't have to ask about that anymore. Certain facts which I thought were not that good have been removed or merged with other facts. Even if my existing viewers aren't interested in these re-recorded videos, new viewers will be. New viewers will be less likely to click off because of the lower quality video, audio, editing, and voicing I simply had to work with/didn't see as a problem back then. Q: Well I don't care, youtubers are all evil greedy capitalist pigs! A: Did you know I can ban you from my comments section in two clicks? Q: Mr. RUclipsr! Despite not being familiar with the source code, I disagree with your informed description of how a thing works because I think it actually works like such-and-such. A: No. Q: What does "loading directly into a level" mean? A: Entering the level by using the "map" console command or through the chapter selection screen, and NOT by entering it from another level or by loading a save. The text in the corner shows what command you would enter to go directly to that level. Q: Does this video have anything new? A: Yes
it's quite funny that the loading into a map glitches have carried over from Half Life 1. I'm curious whether the bug stays the same if you used changelevel xx_xxx instead of map xx_xxx :) Cool vid brah
They could've done more with Odessa, like what's with the bold "SECURITY" on the back of his coat? Why is he wearing a coat in what is to presumably be hot weather? And why does he have such a good voice actor for such a minor character?

Something to add regarding the glass concrete at 5:33 Seeing it surprised me so i went to boot up the original xbox version of Half Life 2 to see if it were present there as well (the version has several maps edited to save whatever performance possible) The glass concrete was still there however in its exact shape, so i moved on a bit. @@BierBart12 Probably...maybe in an earlier stage of development the shelling was going to happen earlier in the section, where a shell would fall above you and crack the concrete. That's my theory.
The head crab shell also happens on the PC version, I think, I remember trying to go back to the guy that shot those head crabs and was suddenly blocked by that unseen head crab canister. Valve had some detailed ways to stop you from messing up the game sometimes

Apparently, the dynamic crate contents was a divisive thing in Valve. At least one of the designers disliked that, on account of it rwarding you using the same weapons all the time.
I think that's why some crates are either scripted or more likely to spawn a certain item, either to introduce you to a weapon or remind you that the rest of your armory exists.
I cannot keep track of the videos on this channel anymore, interesting information seems to be hidden by layers and layers of reuploads. It’s utterly bizarre.
21:00 I think a simple fix for most of these exploits would be to have a second trigger that activates by touch. 1:09:28 That's called a 'cycler' entity. The synth creatures seen on the conveyors in the Citadel use the same entity. 1:27:34 I had no idea those could even break.

Headcrabs hanging upside-down from a ceiling waiting to ambush someone is such a cool detail and yet it's rarely seen. 1:02:54 In the area with the zombies and sentry guns just before meeting up with Alyx (the building with the hole you need to jump down from before the plaza standoff), Alyx will shoot at infinitely spawning Combine soldiers. I hope you understand what i'm explaining. + and Father Grigori will shoot the rollermine too
I assume the poison headcrab launch is because the knockback scales with damage done, so it hits you with the knockback of something doing 99 damage, which is a whole lot
Could you advise where the new content is in this video? I really don't want to scrub through all the same previously released content again. Don't get me wrong, the content is great and we love to see it but the delivery method is viewer unfriendly.
10:12 my guess about the reasoning behind this (assuming it isn't just an oversight) is that the knock back is required for the headcrab to correctly return to the ground, and in turn COULDN'T turn of knock back without breaking this behavior. In my head I'm picturing a scenerio where a headcrab tries to enter it's idle state after hitting the player too soon, begins clipping inside the player, and that interaction makes the engine freak out, potentially killing the player or launching them into the air, and thus the developers made the player recoil from a headcrab attack to avoid this. Therefore, when it came time to impliment the poison headcrab, they couldn't disable this feature without the player and headcrab turning into gmod props being shoved into a wall. That said, I've never read the source code, and this is all a complete guess. I remember hearing that you have actually read the source code, right after calling me out on my bs about how the crane-buggy interaction worked, so if you had a better idea, I'd love to hear it! :)
1:34:16 it looks pretty ugly, but I assume this was done so players could use the shadow of the crane to determine what is directly below it. Great video, I learned a lot of fun new things!
You forgot Breen's room on any map where there's a Breencast. Noclip and you'll find a tiny room with him talking to himself. If you put an NPC or object there and go back out to the screen, you'll see that item.
5:34 the reason why it does that is because if you go through when you crouch under that metal thing, then you go back but you have to see the head crab canister come down and kill two citizens in the area then you go back and then you should see something that I surprise you. try it!
turrets in the first and second turret fights in nova prospekt act differently (1st ones become alert from being picked up and 2nd ones become alert from being placed down) it's not a big fact but yeah
It's kind of odd seeing Alyx have rushing lines. One of the things I remember well from the commentary is that they explicitly didn't include those in the episodes bc they didn't wanna risk the player hating her, given that most of the game involves moving through the levels with her.
_If you try to chase this helicopter you'll be in for a surprise!_ Tell me about it. A low flying *real* chopper buzzed my house mid chase right after you said that. Scared the crap outta me. Thought my sound system got a sudden upgrade.
I remember watching the old upload and liking it a lot, but this one is objectively way better, in fact I can't believe I watched an hour and a half with no pause of hl2 glitches and facts and enjoyed it so much, I was watching a movie before this and I found this video way more fun and interesting than the movie haha, a testament to how good a job you did with the video and the narration.
1:09:37 You can also create an entity that does this via 'ent_create model_studio model models/[npc model]' Theres also an npc that does this at the start of the HL2 beta.

You can bring the dog's ball to the ravenholm. All zombies will attack the rollermine, while you wait elevator after take the shotgun or waiting for the cart in the end you almost don't fight with zombies because all of them attacking rollermine :)
And you can't bring it to the graveyard because there is a invisible wall when you get in the cart. I hope you understand what i'm explaining. + and Father Grigori will shoot the rollermine too
Awesome vid.
Amazing how HL2, much like HL1, has so much trivia and nuances that most ppl never knew about decades after being released.
man they nailed the sound effects in this game. the heli blade sound changes depending on the distance and how its moving. love it.
16:05 the car was holding on for dear life before he dramatically fell down lol
16:02 "Gordon, PLEASE! i beg you!"
25:00 I wasn't expecting this sequence to end like that 🤣
25:34 TARGET ONE!
I assume the poison headcrab launch is because the knockback scales with damage done, so it hits you with the knockback of something doing 99 damage, which is a whole lot
yeah. i mean if you set the crowbar damage to ridiculously large values, you send everything into space
16:04 the dramatic movie betraying fall me: hi hi this should be an meme. the faller: TOOT TOOT
Could you advise where the new content is in this video? I really don't want to scrub through all the same previously released content again.
Don't get me wrong, the content is great and we love to see it but the delivery method is viewer unfriendly.
This whole channel is unfriendly
I think from 01:22:36 to the end are new facts. At least I haven't seen them in any other video
I gotta know
Did you purposely fire the RPG at Odessa or was that an accident?
Made me laugh either way
same
11:26 I tried compiling that map in hammer once and i got a displacement error from one of those holes so i bet that's it
Man I had no idea how many small quirks there are in HL2- TAKE THE GRAVITY GUN.
23:48 idk why but i bust out laughing at this part
1:16:45 No Half Life Trivia made me laugh as hard as "Assaulting Nova Prospekt with 100 antlions"
15:56
"BROTHER"
...
"Long live the king"
I imagine LockPickingLawyer saying here "let's do it one more time so you can see, it was not a fluke"
Maybe it's the knockback from the damage. More damage=more knockback. So when you lose 99 health, the game applies a massive amount of knockback.
24:15 "Gordon! I cant move these snipers got me pinned down" *walks casually*
0:30 pretty sure he is there to make combine noises to make it seem like they are walking around up there
thats what i thought too
oh my fing god
I thought it was there just for some detail or something
Cmon Gordon, get your suit on. We have to get going to Christmas service!
1:08:11 Gman looking around as a manager making sure you're doing your job right and then proceeds to get brutally murdered 😭😭😭
16:07 FREEMAN, BROTHER HELP ME
Gordon: Long live the king...
27:36 “Automatic fracture detected”
40:37 It is crazy how the whole cutscene was going the wrong way than it was supposed to, with the G-man saying "We'll see about that..."
41:31 "Gee Bill! How come your mom lets you have 2 Alyx's?"
"Look what he left behind! He doesnt have a clue does he :D"
"Gordon get the gravity gun :I"
i like to think that the strider's leg glitch isn't a glitch, but more of it kicking you up into the air as an attack
5:34 the reason why it does that is because if you go through when you crouch under that metal thing, then you go back but you have to see the head crab canister come down and kill two citizens in the area then you go back and then you should see something that I surprise you. try it!
The best thing I can listen to while trying to sleep are Half Life Videos.
Thank you for this.
turrets in the first and second turret fights in nova prospekt act differently (1st ones become alert from being picked up and 2nd ones become alert from being placed down) it's not a big fact but yeah
1:34:18 I think the reason this happens is so the shadow of the crane's magnet can be used to line it up.
It's kind of odd seeing Alyx have rushing lines. One of the things I remember well from the commentary is that they explicitly didn't include those in the episodes bc they didn't wanna risk the player hating her, given that most of the game involves moving through the levels with her.
The fact that I know almost all this means that I have a problem
Funny thing is this comment will have more success than I will in my entire life
Pinsplash subscriber huh?

16:23 So that's how you're supposed to do that... I put a barrel on the van and hopped across lmao
Fact: The ammo box on the back of the buggy works. (Atleast in GMOD)
_If you try to chase this helicopter you'll be in for a surprise!_
Tell me about it. A low flying *real* chopper buzzed my house mid chase right after you said that. Scared the crap outta me.
Thought my sound system got a sudden upgrade.
15:13 Intruder Alert a red spy is in the base !
A RED Spy is in the base?!
Gordon:*offers gun*
Rebel:*tries to grab*
Gordon:*throws*
Rebel:nice 😒
1:12:18 Spookiest bug and something a horror mod could use!
I remember watching the old upload and liking it a lot, but this one is objectively way better, in fact I can't believe I watched an hour and a half with no pause of hl2 glitches and facts and enjoyed it so much, I was watching a movie before this and I found this video way more fun and interesting than the movie haha, a testament to how good a job you did with the video and the narration.
i love your hustle of refinement man. don’t see that on every channel!
1:09:37
You can also create an entity that does this via 'ent_create model_studio model models/[npc model]'
Theres also an npc that does this at the start of the HL2 beta.
