What you're feeling is the wairua of the song - its spirit, essence. You get it: Stan is calling us home, to ourselves. It's a cry for the expression of our deeply-rooted humanity and the respect and honouring of indigenous culture. Arohanui from Aotearoa NZ.
@@mohammedbinladen4619 Stan is New Zealand Māori but his song is inspired by the desire to see all indigenous cultures around the world respected, reignited, and honoured.
@@mohammedbinladen4619 Yes, I believe it does. I believe his call is for anyone who feels inclined to reconnect with our natural selves, communion with nature, and a deeper expression of humanity. If you feel it, you feel it. Regardless of heritage.
That incredible voice lost his stomach to cancer several years ago, the fact that Stan can still sing, let alone sing like that is surreal. An absolute warrior of a man, strong in every definition of the word
Absolutely understand where you're coming from brother. We have lost our connection with our world by virtue of our amazing creations. While they have allowed us to make amazingly productive lives it has also taken us out of sync with the ancient rhythms of the natural world around us. We can have both if we just remember and open ourselves up to everything this planet gives us to experience. We're the ones missing out in the end❤
Welcome to the wonderful world of Stan Walker. He is an authentic, humble, loving man whose music always moves you. You will not regret checking out other songs by Stan. Cheers from New Zealand (Aotearoa).
Greetings from Cape Town! I never heard of Stan Walker until this video came out and gave me chills; this song is an anthem, a freedom song, a universal message to me. And one I struggle to sing because I choke up .. every time! Stan is a survivor, if you take a look at his story. It shows here I think. Love your reactions!
Stan sung this waiata (song) today on Parliament grounds here in Aotearoa [New Zealand] in support of the Toitū Te Tiriti Hikoi [stand/protest] against the Treaty Principles Bill that the coalition government has proposed. Over 50k people of all nationalities gathered on parliament grounds today opposing the bill.
Lovely reaction thank you, and lovely description of the song. You are totally making sense! Know what you mean about the song speaking to something deeper in oneself. This song is part of a trilogy of songs Stan has released over the last year, that are all connected. You might enjoy listening to the other two: 'Maori ki te Ao' and 'Back to the River'. Also recommend Stan's amazing cover of Kanye West's 'Ultralight beam' . Thank you again. 😀
He toi ora ahau nou - I am your vitality Te toi no Kurawaka - The source from Kurawaka ( the waters where life began ) Taku rongomaiwhiti e - My unique sacredness Takiri ko te haeata - The dawn breaks Anga atu ki te Ra - Face the light of the new day Whiti whiti ki te ora e - Shine, cross over to life Hou mai ra - Resounding To rongo e - Are your deeds Tau mai ra - Received To karere - Is your message Mau tonu e - It remains Tuturu whakamaua kia tina - Bind together, fix and affirm Haumi e - It is affirmed Hui e - Bound together Taiki e - In unity
Beautiful reaction. Your intuitive response to this songs message was spot on. Be proud of yourself and your existence & the sacrifice of your ancestors. 💖💖
Great reaction… thank you for listening to the full song and not interrupting! I had the same reaction to this song… goosebumps! I thought for me, it might just be a Kiwi (pakeha) reaction but I see it transcends nations. 👍
For those that don't know, Stan Walker is a Kiwi/New Zealander that won the 2009 Australian Idol competition singing rock songs. So essentially, Stan can sing anything. I was in a band that opened for him a year after he won, and he was phenomenal
This song resonates with me too. The second language is indeed Maori. In the video description Stan wrote about this song: "“I AM” is my response to Ava DuVernay’s film 'Origin'. It is about the reclamation, reconciliation and reconnection to our identity, our language and the origins of who we are and where we come from. By knowing who we are, we are then able to know where we are going. This is how we unlock our greatest power. I AM is taking back the power and giving it back to the people." Stan is an is an Australian New Zealand singer and actor. He won Australian Idol in 2009. Stan's life was really rough. You can find more about it on Wikipedia. For more Stan I highly recommend "Amazing Grace" with "The Levites": ruclips.net/video/frneXjQnicM/видео.html and his Kanye West cover "Ultralight Beam": ruclips.net/video/6VtklPHboTg/видео.html
Loved your reaction Ive watched so many reactions of this waiata/song and it hits my spirit soul and psyche.....pretty much how you expressed it. Stan is authentic as he can be with himself as Maori and Te Ao Maori / The World of Maori through his Reo/language, kakahu/clothing, the Taonga/adornments, his Taamoko/tattoo and his expressive actions of his hands. He is a multi-talented Maori man, the voice, writing music, producing this whole presentation of I AM with 2 hoa/friends in two weeks and the scenery was from Whenua/areas he and his wife come from within NZ/Aotearoa. The project didnt costs him thousands $$$, his personal dedication talent, time and resources are beyond financial constraints which makes seeing and hearing it phenomenal as you stated. Please react to Stans other songs you will not be disappointed,
You’re making absolute sense. You’re connected to the wairua (spirit) of the waiata (song) Yes, there is always meaning to the ‘tattoo’ Great analysis of depth. 🙏
