Kia ora. I’ll never get tired of this song. Check out the shirt you were wearing on the day you reacted to this. I can’t be the only one to notice that it says “ I Am”. That put a smile on my face. Aroha from the hills of West Virginia.
Kia ora, I have no idea my friend. But, I did see it within just a few seconds of your reaction starting. I’m not from Aotearoa or even close to it. But, several years ago I watched a video here on RUclips that was about the Haka. I had never heard of that before. The rugby team from Aotearoa ( New Zealand) called the All Blacks perform this dance before every match. I was just blown away by it. So, I started getting into watching rugby as an All Blacks fan. I then noticed that at the beginning of matches the commentators would say something in a language that I definitely could not understand. So I started learning Te Reo Māori. Somewhere in there I was introduced to Mr. Walker’s music. I can’t get enough of it. It’s verbally and visually stunning. I’ve also had the pleasure of emailing with him and his team on multiple occasions when I have a cultural question and don’t know who to ask. I always apologize for the misuse of any words because I’m still learning. May you hīkoi from the moana and up the awa until you reach the maunga. Turn and look across Aotearoa and take a moment to appreciate the motu. Someday take your tamariki there and let them taste the wai and kai. That experience will be taonga to you. When you go back to your whenua you will still hear the call from Aotearoa. Aroha my friend from the hills of West Virginia.
@@AlienMadeTVon one rugby video I was commenting back and forth with a guy from the North Island of Aotearoa. He was a fan of the rugby union team that I was well aware of bc they had a legend that once played for them but had passed away. Many more back and forth messages and he said that myself being from the US, that I probably see famous people all the time, lol. Hardly. I’m from one of the poorer states here but I had meet a couple celebrities at events. It was rather funny bc he said he had met Jonah Lomu ( mad respect from me ) and I had as a kid met Muhammad Ali. We both started acting like we were kids. You actually met him, what was he like, etc. I was stunned he had met one of my idols but he was stunned by my story. I just found that amusing. He later told me that when he was young he had heard his elders say that , Māori culture is for everyone. He said his entire life, both of us are in our mid to late 40s, he never knew what they had meant. But, through our interactions he finally realized what they had said was true. I still email him from time to time. If he happens to read this… hello my Blues fan friend. Again, Aroha from the hills of West Virginia
Stan is of Polynesian descent. He is Māori from Aotearoa New Zealand. Stan is a proud advocate of his culture, language, land etc and implements a lot of it in his music. Music industry wanted him to only sing in English but Stans not having it refusing to sign with record deals that want to control him like a puppet. He sings his language and proudly displays it for the world to see!! He has a live version of this as well you can check out.
7:48 When you talk about not expecting him to sound the way he does, the big voice out of such a slight frame, it was actually something that was largely talked about when he first got sick. He used to be much broader/fuller and then he was spotted by paps looking much skinner and the media was very cruel about it. There were rumours of drug abuse and such in magazines and other media outlets. It got so bad that he had to publicly announce that he had cancer, he had to have his stomach removed, and that he may never sing, or sing the way he used to ever again. Media was very quick to change their tune, switching from "Druggie Stan?' to "Stan's courageous battle". He's honestly such a great person and the fact that he can still sing at all is nothing short of a miracle
Kia ora from Aotearoa / New Zealand 🔥🔥🔥reaction! Stan is indigenous Māori and is the most accomplished singer in NZ. Our language is very powerful and felt more than heard, have subd up✊🏽
Stan was the winner of Australian idol in 2009. Since then he has come through surgery for stomach cancer and written a book. Recommend Circle of Life, Don't Dream It's Over and especially Ultralight Beam. And actually, anything else he sings...
Kia Ora…..amazing amazing reaction! Add “New Takeover”, “I am the colour”, Ultralight Beam and Circle of Life You will be blown away again and again and again

Hi, thank you for your reaction. I subbed. Pls react to stans rendition of amazing grace and bigger . You're right tho, I want to see the movie and read the book lol
The song is not about the movie, the song is about you, who you are and where you are from. It speaks of your origin, respecting and knowing your ancestors, for without that knowledge, you cannot build a strong foundation for your future. It speaks of the importance of your origin, your culture, and how you can never fully be you without the strength of your culture. Too much of our cultures has been destroyed in the name of progress, it is time to take it back, and be proud of who you are, and where you are from….KNOW YOUR ORIGIN!! keep up the great reaction👍🏼👍🏼
Te Reo Māori is our language in Aotearoa (New Zealand) Māori is our culture, I could write you a whole book about our people but I'll let our Stan explain it in his music.....

You are definitely correct
