Hey, Mark, for someone who hasn't seen the movie, or read the book, you have a perfect grasp of the subject. ! I'm a little mystified, however, what impressed you about the drivel dished up in this reaction.
@@alpeach9480 HI, Alpeach. I watched several interviews with Ava Du Vernay and the making of the film as well as interviews with Stan Walker about how they got connected and what they saw as common themes to cover. Also I read reviews of Caste, Isabel Wilkerson's book, and ordered a copy. I wasn't expecting a highly intellectual review as those guys started from scratch. But I thought they ended up on the right track and I was encouraging the thought they were putting into it. Maybe they'll look into it more. And I'm pretty drivel-proof as I've watched a lot of reactions. I can't wait for the book to arrive and then to watch the film. My last sentence was inspired by the words of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the lyrics of 'You're The Voice', the post Great War speech attributed to Mustafa Ataturk, and the motivational inspiration of The Fairy Voice Mother aka Lolli Wren. It also reflects a long held interest in the Kabbalah and the Mahabharata. I hope I've demystified my line of thinking somewhat and I do appreciate your response.
Stan and his mates did all the filming on site at those locations, all in Aotearoa New Zealand. A very shy, humble man, Stan would hide in costume when tourists showed up at some places during filming. Gott love him!
Kia ora guys, loving your coverage, Stan is a taonga a treasure of Aotearoa New Zealand. These are all places I’ve been to over my lifetime and the geysers and pale stone are likely in Rotorua and or Taupo in the volcanic areas. In the movie scenes that sculpture where she touches the stones I’m pretty sure is in Germany and is a monument to holocaust survivors.
Stan you r not only making the Māori proud. You r making all ur Pacific Island brothers Proud from Vast Island of Hawaii to New Zealand we r all connected to the Land, Sea and the Sky where we use Stars to guide us during our days of Voyage into the sea.
Stan won the 7th season of Australias got talent, he was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, but moved back to his ancestral lands of New Zealand. He had stomach cancer and has come out stronger. He has an amazing voice. I have followed his career since Australian Idol.
Stan is a really beautiful human being who’s overcome a lot including a recent bout of cancer. He lost his stomach due to that. He’s got an incredible voice & is a true artist in how he expresses the lyrics. He’s a proud Māori & yes, those tattoos reflect his culture & are real. Someone kindly put a translation of the Māori part of the song. Like Native American peoples, Māoris consider humans to be stewards of the earth/the Earth is our mother & we pass our origins down to subsequent generations. We’re not doing a great job of protecting the legacy of our beautiful environment. We need to do much better by our children.
@@MyCatalog23Origin is a movie that follows the life of Isabel Wilkerson around the time she wrote the book Caste: The origin of our discontent. She delves into what makes us detach emotionally from other groups of people who are different whether it be race, colour, religion, social or economic background and allow it to develop into persecution or hatred. I believe this is one of the most important movies of our time. I am a massive Stan Walker fan and it is through this sing I discovered the movie. In Stan's video he shows the forests and waterfalls which are plentiful in New Zealand as well as the stunning beaches and geothermal areas (the dark areas). The video was made mostly in the Bay of Plenty and central North Island and it really is that beautiful!

New Sub. I am a stan of stan LOL Loved your guy's reaction. Stan mentioned in an interview how he grew up watching 'The Avatar' and loved the character Ang. The tattoo is influenced from it but has a more Traditional and deeper meaning. Stan is very creative and is very intentional with every song and video he makes (Lyrics, Traditional attire, scenes etc). It is made with pure love and respect for our culture, but it is also music that empowers and inspires all people Internationally. Look forward to more reactions from my fave Nz Artist, much love from Nz. Ava discovered Stan through his Kanye West cover 'Ultralight Beam' Powerful vocals, pls check it out.
Awesome love how the bro knows about our way of tattooing is awesome to see the younger generation with this type of knowledge. As a Maori it great to see the world discovering our beautiful culture awesome reaction.
He actually watched the movie and this song is the result of the movie, he is a full Maori born in Australia but now living in New Zealand with his family and yes the tattoos are real it represents his Whanau his iwi (Family and tribe) he is acknowledging his ancestors. The places you see are actually his home land around his home.
To all Polynesians, Maori included of which Stan proudly represents, our history, ancestors, and Origin, dictates the people and person we become today. This song speaks to all who listens to seek out your origin, and to know your ancestors and stand proud of who they are, and the journey they struggled through, to bring you into being. We believe that your future is lost, and your direction is aimless, without the strong foundation your ancestors left to you. So seek your heritage, know your past, and stand proud fully knowing the sacrifices that brought you to today, and the great person you have become. KNOW YOUR ORIGIN!!!..and give thanks to those of your family gone on before you… Awes9me video guys…welcome to the rabbit hole that is the unique…. Stan Walker

Interesting. You guys have great insight for a culture you have never been exposed to. Well done!
We love love love Stan Walker her in New Zealand 🇳🇿 ❤️ 💕 💖

Great reaction guys, can tell yous are seeking to understand culture 🎉❤
The lyrics are intentional. Emotional 😭
Emotional, inspiring, uplifting, powerful…..etc absolutely Love this song.
It's Tamoko of Aotearoa NZ..WE are Maori..He sings the chorus in Te Reo Maori, our Mother tongue..Mauri Ora ❣
The video was filmed in New Zealand 💜 big loves to you guys from New Zealand.
Stan and his mates did all the filming on site at those locations, all in Aotearoa New Zealand. A very shy, humble man, Stan would hide in costume when tourists showed up at some places during filming. Gott love him!
Stan is a New Zealander and that’s is rest tattoos of his background as Māori. .from Edith in 🇦🇺
Kia ora guys, loving your coverage, Stan is a taonga a treasure of Aotearoa New Zealand. These are all places I’ve been to over my lifetime and the geysers and pale stone are likely in Rotorua and or Taupo in the volcanic areas. In the movie scenes that sculpture where she touches the stones I’m pretty sure is in Germany and is a monument to holocaust survivors.
Tattoos are real and Stan is from New Zealand. He's Maori and a beautiful advocate for his people. Love his voice (NZ )
Nice reaction ❤️
Yes that is his tattoo it is called a tamoko so it is cultural. I’m his mama so yea he is very cultural.
Stan you r not only making the Māori proud. You r making all ur Pacific Island brothers Proud from Vast Island of Hawaii to New Zealand we r all connected to the Land, Sea and the Sky where we use Stars to guide us during our days of Voyage into the sea.
Guys! I dig your commentary.
Stan the man in Aotearoa he is well respected and forever be loved
Great reaction guys.
Stan also does a live studio version of I AM.
Everyone has mana, (honor) the next move is yours, Left or right choose your fight ❤️
The movie to this song is amazing ❤
There is a Movie to this song??
It is sulpha in New Zealand. And then the video goes back to the actual movie from Ava
Excellent job lads 👌
Stan Walker has been through the walk of his life his culture is a beautiful one Maori decent in me only slightly but the soul is one with nature the land ,the sea ,the rivers Aroha ❤️To Stan Walker ❤️and his family ,and who all walk beside him .🥰
It's all of us..we all are everything and eachother..oneness
When you watch the movie “origins” then you will understand and feel the song more. The song and movie changed and gave me a deeper knowledge of our history and people of the world on race. Just beautiful and touching!!!.
Kia ora ❤ from New Zealand Maori, long white cloud, Ataahua beautiful song ❤
Btw guys he isnt new, his an OG. But love how you guys know him now! And the tattoo are a cultural importance in all the pacific countries. Its part of you.
Great to see your reaction, check out other music by him.
Chur mean alright brothers ❤️🤍🖤
Awesome love how the bro knows about our way of tattooing is awesome to see the younger generation with this type of knowledge. As a Maori it great to see the world discovering our beautiful culture awesome reaction.
He actually watched the movie and this song is the result of the movie, he is a full Maori born in Australia but now living in New Zealand with his family and yes the tattoos are real it represents his Whanau his iwi (Family and tribe) he is acknowledging his ancestors. The places you see are actually his home land around his home.
I'm sure he was born in new Zealand but moved to Oz in childhood
To all Polynesians, Maori included of which Stan proudly represents, our history, ancestors, and Origin, dictates the people and person we become today. This song speaks to all who listens to seek out your origin, and to know your ancestors and stand proud of who they are, and the journey they struggled through, to bring you into being. We believe that your future is lost, and your direction is aimless, without the strong foundation your ancestors left to you.
So seek your heritage, know your past, and stand proud fully knowing the sacrifices that brought you to today, and the great person you have become.
KNOW YOUR ORIGIN!!!..and give thanks to those of your family gone on before you…
Awes9me video guys…welcome to the rabbit hole that is the unique…. Stan Walker
It's a whale bone around his neck. It is also a comb which males use to tie their hair up in a top knot mainly for traditional Maori performance and war.
Yes please react to his ultralight beam cover you won't be disappointed 💯
