Stan is Maori descent from New Zealand, Aotearoa. He’s a magnificent singer.
A really interesting piece of information to know is that Stan actually was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had to have his entire stomach removed, so he had to learn how to sing all over again and relearn his vocal control and breathing techniques. He has stayed strong in his faith and love for God through all his hardships, and many celebrities and singers have actually said that Stan’s voice was a gift from god, as Stan is able to preach to people through his songs and has helped many people find Jesus through his music.

As many have mention Stan is Maori (Indigenous culture of Aotearoa "Land of the Long White Cloud" but more commonly referred to as New Zealand). Stan's journey started when he won Australian Idol 2009. He is very well known in this part of the world and throughout the Pacific and starting to make a few ripples on your shores. He opened for Beyonce on the Australian and New Zealand legs of her World Tour in 2013. There's a video of Stan Walker meeting Beyonce after her concert on RUclips. He's been in a few movies and was asked by the Director Ava DuVernay to write the seminal song "I Am" for her latest movie "Origin" after watching his cover of Kanye West's "Ultralight Beam". His music crosses many genres R&B, Soul, Gospel, Reggae, Cultural etc. Checkout more of his series with the Levites (Session Band) and the Standard (Backing Group) -

Not Hawaiians. New Zealanders. There is a mixture of Maori, Samoan and Tonga in this video. Not bizarre at all... You need to go to Polynesian churches... this is how they sing. It's normal.

Stan is Maori from New Zealand, an so are The Levites. Sidenote.....Amazing Grace is actually an English song, written by an English Pastor who wrote it after he wanted to repent for being a Captain of ships that carried captured Africans to the New World to become slaves.

Love your guy's reaction, his roots lie heavily in his culture, which is Maori, but Stan was founded through Australian Idol (you should check out his journey), Stan has gone through rare cancer that went through a few of his relatives and had half his stomach taken because of it, Stan has had to work to get his voice back into shape, which I think he sounds better then he ever has, Stan is a very religious man, he is also a husband a father and his humbleness just tips the rader every time, Stan has also done Movies that you may be interested in, but we New Zealanders are proud of him, his success and his persistence through all he has been through. His light shines bright and in time gets even brighter, he is a positive soul and a very old soul, and I think you guys will really enjoy his journey.. a few songs you may want to have a look at::: "BIGGER" ruclips.net/video/GAFMUzw0wRQ/видео.htmlsi=y5SThkQJmbTErhsc, "ULTRA LIGHT BEAM" which is a cover of Kanye West ruclips.net/video/GAFMUzw0wRQ/видео.htmlsi=y5SThkQJmbTErhsc, "I AM" which is the theme song for an "Ava Duvernay" movie, called "ORIGIN". these are just a few, i hope you guys stay on Stan for a while, thank you again for great reaction.

Yes interesting observation about the beautiful tone that all Polynesian have Maori, Samoan South Pacific Hawaiian of course. We all have wide noses. This is only my theory,😊it helps with that resonance and tone to the voice.more breath space. Were if you have narrow noses you get more of the nasally sound.Just my thoughts, not a scientific fact 😅😅

Stan Walker is Māori which is the indigenous groups of Aotearoa/New Zealand, Native Hawaiians are Kanaka Maoli so I guess it can be an easy mistake to make if you're not familiar with the different islands.
I am unsure which pacific Island the Levites roots are from, I'm still perfecting my island radar. I'm guessing Samoan but please don't quote me. And the same goes with the rest of the fams in the studio. We are heavily influenced by black culture. The way the songs speak to the soul or you sing from the soul is what we are all about and we have adapted new ways to express that from other cultures but definitely black Americans and Jamaicans whilst also going back to our own roots

I’m sorry but I fail to understand how you can do reaction to a song and literally have no idea where the people singing it comes from but to them talk about them and describe there essence to an entirely different country, it’s mind boggling how you don’t take the time to do so small Google research before hand so you come prepared to make informed comments to what your listening to. Strange. And sad.

Hawaii? 🤦🏽‍♀️ There’s countries, continents, and islands that exist outside the U.S, just sayin’…. At least do a little side research while you’re reviewing an artist or band. Just type in Stan Walker and see where he’s from! Takes literally 15 seconds to do a search and read 1 sentence about him and where he’s from! Hawaii? Ugh.. 😒

Over the rainbow is originally Hawaiin, Stan Walker, the Levites, and the band are all from New Zealand Aotearoa.. no Hawaiians among them, but yes all Polynesian islands including New Zealand and Hawaii all have a very unique and beautiful tone in their singing 👍👍
