I am incredibly excited for this movie. I hope that America secures a release this year. I would also be interested in seeing the Shin version of nearly any of the classic Japanese properties I’ve grown up loving. On the other hand, I also look forward to a day when Anno and co can create an original work, which they haven’t been able to do in quite some time. Also, please for the love of God someone give Gamera another shot!
As far as original works, tokusatsu is mental health thearpy for Anno. NGE reminds him of his depression while tokusatsu such as Godzilla and Ultraman reminds him of his happier childhood times. I would love to see Anno make a completely original tokusatsu work someday.
According to an interview with Hideaki Anno included in the Shin Ultraman Design Works, he had also previously written proposals for live-action versions of Mirror Man and Mighty Jack, but for various reasons they never materialized. According to Anno, Shin Ultraman was commissioned by Tsuburaya Productions to Anno as a trilogy. According to the proposal, the second film would be directed by Anno himself. The Shin Ultraman Design Works also includes the proposal, which reveals some surprising details. Anno has stated that what he really wanted to do was Sequel Shin Ultraman. However, it requires a huge budget and the success of Shin Ultraman is necessary. Incidentally, at the end of the proposal for Shin Ultraman, the word "Continue" is written. According to Tsuburaya Productions' business plan, the film following Shin Ultraman is scheduled to be released in 2024.
So after a Shin Ultraseven... would it be a Shin Return of Ultraman? I'd imagine it would include an actual return of the first film's Ultraman instead of a Shin version of Jack. Maybe a little bit of crossover with Ultraseven at the end too.
Well considering it made over $34 million on a roughly $5 million budget, I'd say it was a success. And I can imagine that a sequel would be given a higher budget thanks to the overwhelming success of the first, and it could possibly have a shin gojira level budget of $15 million.
This is great for toku fans all over the world. I have no doubt that Shin KR will do great based on the teaser they released, which is looks AMAZING. If Shin Godzilla is more horror/serious tone while Shin Ultraman is more light hearted, I can feel that Shin KR will be more serious/depress tone but still have those cheesiness/campiness of the suit designs. Btw, Shin Godzilla and Ultraman already focused so much on cgi, I think Shin KR will used the most practical effects and less cg. Anno might do some callback tricks from the tv series such as the break camera screen or even the pov kick lol (I know its in cutie honey)
I’m very excited for this film and can’t wait to see it. I’m happy to see Ultraman get more recognition especially after watching the franchise struggled in the early 2010s. Something that disheartens me a little though is how I’ve seen some Shin Godzilla fans on twitter downplay the success of Shin Ultraman, like saying it’s misinformation that Shin Ultraman may have earned more than Shin Godzilla in the same timespan it’s been out despite selling a significantly higher amount of tickets. I feel like it’s weird to be competitive about it when the Shin series are like brothers, and we should be happy Godzilla, Ultraman and Tokusatsu as a whole is being appreciated more.

Saw the movie two days ago. Its definitely an interesting film. Different from what I was expecting, mainly in story structure, but the effects and battles were what I went in to the theater for and overall I got that and was satisfied. This is a movie made for fans by fans.
With *Shin Ultraman's* success in Japan now and *Godzilla's* success in Legendary's MonsterVerse, things are looking great for daikaiju eiga (giant monster movies) and tokusatsu. Now would be the perfect time to reboot *GAMERA.* Whether it's Japan or Hollywood, it's high-time for the return of the *Guardian Of The Universe* to be on the big screen again.
I would love nothing more than to see Higuchi do something with Gamera again. It's been too long since the last Gamera movie. As for Shin Ultraman, I'm secretly hoping we get an international cinema run like we did with Shin Goji although I kind of doubt the reality of that given the somewhat niche status of Ultraman in the west. Either way, I'm excited to finally see it when I can.
@@Kakimech89 I believe it was announced not long ago that there will be an international release, but actual details of what that means are still forthcoming. I'm hoping that means a small run in cinemas, but I'm honestly expecting it to be something like a release to a streaming platform.
I remember watching Tiga, Kuuga and Black first time in 2002, that is the time when I really adore Kamen Rider and Tokusatsu in general. While I still love Spiderman and Batman..... Tokusatsu series just resonates more for me especially with Kuuga. Besides the amazing practical + vfx work on Tokusatsu, sometimes their story has more deeper complexity rather than the DC and Marvel Superheroes.
I'm a recent Ultra fan, but god im so excited about this movie. Shin Godzilla is the best movie in that series beyond the 50s original and I expect the same of Shin Ultraman.
If you're going to go into the cinema, or maybe put on the DVD in the player when it comes out, thinking that it's gonna be like Shin Godzilla, yeah, you're not gonna like. I don't want to spoil you too much, but the movie is batshit insane at certain points and tries to troll you as a viewer as well. You gotta go in with the right mind set. God Bless you people. I watched Ultraman in the 70's and putting some old school values in the new Shin Ultraman is paramount. Thank You, Thank You for keeping Ultraman going in 2023. Sometimes we need to go backwards to go forwards. Love Ultraman and it's cast and creatures

I’d been looking forward to seeing this since I saw the trailer a couple of years ago! As a kid, I used to watch the Ultra Man TV series religiously. To see they’ve brought this iconic character back to life in 2022, I’m so excited!!!
I would absolutely kill for a Shin Gamera movie if ever as the Shin series so far has been phenomenal & amazing and I’m a HUGE fan of Ultraman, Godzilla, & Kamen Rider alike!!! 🔥😄
Seeing how they took something like the 60s ultraman and made it into this was really something I was on the edge of my seat watching this in theaters. I’m curious what else they could do with other stuff like super sentai or maybe they could do gransazer
I loved those programs back then( 9 years old).. I rushed home from school to see. "Spectraman" "Ultraman" "Johnny Socko and the Giant Robot",, and my favorite of them all " Space Giants" i would love to see a CGI remake of Space Giants and see what a human really looks like turning into a rocket.. what a great concept that was for me.
I grew up watching the reruns of the original Ultraman series in the early and mid 70's. I also collected the Ultraman dolls and always wondered why succeeding Ultraman series never appeared on U.S. television. My favorite Ultraman dolls that I played with were Ultraman and Ultramans Jack, Taro and Leo. It would, therefore, be wonderful to see an adaption of them in the Shin Ultraman series.
I loved it, the way it replicated the jank of the old school effects. The story was good too, lots of neat flourishes, great energy. And it has a beginning, middle and end. Rare for films these days to stand alone. This does.
I would love Anno to do a “shin” mazinger z (different than the anime), or shin devil man. That would be amazing and will bring everything full circle.
Wow just time traveled back 50 years watching Ultraman. I forgot how much I truly loved that show. Almost as good was Speed Racer came on after Ultraman but Ultraman was my show as a kid.
Definitely Gamera! I love the 90s movies dearly and watch them often. Higuchi-san was spot on when he said the appeal of the old shows was how cheesy they often looked, because the appeal of seeing something that's really there on set and on screen outweighs CGI much of the time with us fans. I hope that "Shin Ultraman" gets even a limited Stateside theatrical run, because I'd watch the heck out of it and buy the Blu-ray if it's as good as these clips make it look. I also really enjoyed "Shin Godzilla" in theaters and on Blu-ray because of the liberties Higuchi and Anno took in presenting their take on a classic character. Now to look forward to "Shin Kamen Rider", because the trailer is LIT. You can tell they're big fans and want to do it justice. (Oh, and sue me, but Masami Nagasawa is a special effect in and of herself, rather like Satomi Ishihara)
I don't know how they did the CGI in Shin Ultraman but it looks perfect. It's a weird combo of looking practical but clearly CGI? How did they do this I wonder? I just hope they continue perfecting this style, I love it!
Look, I’m not saying that you can’t make JUST a Shin Ultraman, or JUST a Shin Kamen Rider. But if you’re gonna’ do both then you might just as bloody well do a Shin GoRenger, it’s just expected at this point 😂
The main issue I see is that they are trying to make those shin heroes into a shin universe, and with ultraman, evangelion and godzilla that already seems hard enough to do.
@@snaildude268 I hope they don't go that way. Honestly, I don't think they are trying to go that way. The use of "shin" is probably just a marker for a reimagining of old series for new era. Why? bcs Shin means "new" or "true".
Honestly Gamera or any other property they decide to do after Shin Kamen rider is honestly already getting me hyped for the possibilities in which how they can make Tokusatsu more successful as a whole.
I think Mothra and Rodan would work with the shin treatment. Mothra is the second most popular toho kaiju in Japan, so I could see her story modernized.
When the 2014 American Godzilla came out I recommended it to my friends. One of them told me it was weird because the lumbering Godzilla looked like some stuntmen in super-realistic rubber monster suits.
I would love to see a more modern (maybe body horror?) take on Guyver. I know there has been two live action adaptations for the IP in the late 90s, but I think with something as niche as Guyver, there is much potential from both a story and practical effects standpoint. Someone in the comments also mentioned Metal Heroes, so I was also thinking why not a Shin Ninja Fighter Jiraiya or even Juuko B Fighter?
Love The Guyver, one of my favorites. I remember when my friend Ed recorded the old "Guyver: Out Of Control" movie off one of the local UHF channels back when were in middle school. No subtitles of course, but we were instantly hooked. I've gotten everything Guyver related I could ever since then. The wife found me a VHS copy of Out Of Control many years ago from L.A. Hero/Dark Image and she managed to track down some of the comics for my birthday one year. I have both animated series, and both live action movies, .... and not just because the first one has Mark Hamil, JJ Walker, and Michael Berryman in it.... I had to see a film with all of them in it. And Guyver 2: Dark Hero not just because David Hayter, who wrote the screenplays for X-Men and X2: X-Men United, plays the main character Sean/The Guyver..... needless to say there was a lot of laughter while watching both films. But yeah, I'd love to see a live action Guyver film on par with Shin Godzilla and what I've see of Shin Ultraman, bigger budget, better effects, etc. but still keeping the original comics, animated movie, and animated series firmly in mind. Maybe a life action Out Of Control.
Something you forgot to mention that apparently in the ShinU guidebook and TsuPro's recent project timeline, there's 2 confirmed ShinU sequels planned, one being ShinU's direct sequel to be shown in 2024/2025 and the other being Shin Ultraseven for 2026/2027

My favorite Ultraman dolls that I played with were Ultraman and Ultramans Jack, Taro and Leo. It would, therefore, be wonderful to see an adaption of them in the Shin Ultraman series.
Now all we need is a Shin Gamera movie. I pray for that to happen.🙏
The problem I see is how they are gonna fit so many different heroes from different worlds into the same shin universe wich is what they want to do.
Go Nagai's works are better left in mediums like anime and manga, they don't really click with Anno's realistic style imo.
Being a Hawaii “kid” we have strong connection to Kikaider. So for sure, if that got the SHIN treatment people in Hawaii would loose their minds lol
Wow just time traveled back 50 years watching Ultraman. I forgot how much I truly loved that show. Almost as good was Speed Racer came on after Ultraman but Ultraman was my show as a kid.
shin godzilla was the first godzilla film to genuinely terrify me. my buddy helped me watch every toho film in order before godzilla v kong's release
I can't wait till it hits the US, by far my most hyped movie this year.
I’m desperately excited for the blu ray release. Would love to see it.
i teared up a little bit after seeing ultraman again after such a long time
CGI can be good, but I do have a love for practical effects.
Anno is confirmed long time Super Sentai fan, he would do Shin Super Sentai justice
9:53 finally he has color timer 🤩😍
I would like to see shin ultra 7 & shin Gamera in the future
Another great video man.
Please allow this to be the bright beginning of the Shin-verse! 💯🙏
This is a great video my man. Great work
i absolutely cannot wait for shin kamen rider, i think it looks fantastic
That Gamera trilogy from the 90s is amazing and I wouldn't mind seeing that get the "shin" effect.
JIMU SAPU SAYS '''SUIWACHI!!!'' about Shinji Ultraman!! I liked what I saw!
OMG I never knew Anno was interested in Kikaider! That would be a rather interesting thing to see!
I just wish they released the movie outside of Japan, maybe a late theather release like shin godzilla or on blu ray/dvd
God... Zilla I want Shin Gamera so much
Only from Anno and Shinji!
Damn he is so cool!
Shin Ultra Seven (Urutora Sebun) should also be made!
I don't know how they did the CGI in Shin Ultraman but it looks perfect. It's a weird combo of looking practical but clearly CGI? How did they do this I wonder? I just hope they continue perfecting this style, I love it!
They know how to do them great and who should be doing them for years to come
Just watched in Yokohama and its amazing!!!
It would be neat to see a Shin Daimajin
Yesss! A Shin Gamera or Giant Robo would be badass.
when we're kids, enjoy watching ultraman. when we're not kids, these ultramans are made for kids....
but shin ultraman, that's we like shin ultraman
shin supaidaman
Unironically would love to see this
Look, I’m not saying that you can’t make JUST a Shin Ultraman, or JUST a Shin Kamen Rider. But if you’re gonna’ do both then you might just as bloody well do a Shin GoRenger, it’s just expected at this point 😂
The main issue I see is that they are trying to make those shin heroes into a shin universe, and with ultraman, evangelion and godzilla that already seems hard enough to do.
@@snaildude268 you mean like….they all exist in the same world? Like the mcu?
@@snaildude268 I hope they don't go that way. Honestly, I don't think they are trying to go that way. The use of "shin" is probably just a marker for a reimagining of old series for new era. Why? bcs Shin means "new" or "true".
Definitely would love a new Gamera movie and what about spectrum man? I loved that show
Shin Gamera and a straight up comedy Shin Inframan
Definitely Shin Gamera and Shin Spectreman!!!
I personally would like to see a modern update to Janperson. These series touched upon several themes that I think could still be relevant today.
Honestly Gamera or any other property they decide to do after Shin Kamen rider is honestly already getting me hyped for the possibilities in which how they can make Tokusatsu more successful as a whole.
Shin Mighty Jack would be cool...
Great vid btw :)
I think Mothra and Rodan would work with the shin treatment. Mothra is the second most popular toho kaiju in Japan, so I could see her story modernized.
Same but I would also like to see shin Godzilla because their both shins
When the 2014 American Godzilla came out I recommended it to my friends. One of them told me it was weird because the lumbering Godzilla looked like some stuntmen in super-realistic rubber monster suits.
4:49. The Movie grossed $79 million? In the US that wouldn't be a flop, that'd be a bomb.
Why do I always learn about these things after the fact??? Like, I was following this stuff and everything!
@0:05 Damn, on CC "shin ulcerman"... never heard of this super hero before xD
Brilliant film. - saw it in Houston last month
i hope it doesnt take too long to find it way ( Legally ) to the US. it looks so good
I'm glad shin Ultraman is doing so well. I Wish we can watch it in the Us.
Probly blue ray release
Shin Super Sentai would be really something
Shin Goranger?
Isn’t that the American power ranger movie.
me just patiently waiting for it to come to the US
While Shin Kamen Rider looks a lot exciting, I'm hyped for a possibility of Shin Ultraseven.
Excellent video! Great Japanese history presentation, too.
I definitely want to see Shin Ultraseven. Maybe also a Godzilla Vs. Gamara film
Its mean I need the movie to come to my theatre real quick
Something you forgot to mention that apparently in the ShinU guidebook and TsuPro's recent project timeline, there's 2 confirmed ShinU sequels planned, one being ShinU's direct sequel to be shown in 2024/2025 and the other being Shin Ultraseven for 2026/2027
a shin kikaider would be everything ive both wanted and dreamed
Considering we have Shin Godzilla and Ultraman, and were getting Shin Kamen Rider, I would totally be down for Shin Gamera, Shin Gorenger and Shin Gavan
They need to remaster Ultraman Nexus shit is fireeeee 🔥🔥🔥
