Bravo! I made cards 10 years ago and stopped because I couldn't stamp right. It was frustrating. When I began again about a year and a half ago I was at AC Moore's staring at supplies. A lady came up and we were talking. She mentioned your channel. I started to learn all the things you spoke about. Game changer! I bought better products and tools and was amazed. I'm one of your biggest fans. So newbies you will learn so much from Maymay and her crew. Thank you!😀
Hi Susan, Me too!! But in my case someone in some chat group recommended Maymay's YT Channel. Being fairly New to Crafting & Cardmaking I felt so overwhelmed by all the different Products & Brands. Maymay Saved Me. lol If you can afford it, I would recommend 1 of her Stamp Clubs. Her Regular Stamp Club Ships on the 6th PD the month. Then her Religious Stamp Club Ships on the 21st of the month. I belong to the Regular & Love it. I've been able to grow my stamp collection affordable doing it this way. I only pick up a Stamp set I may not have anything similar to it. I've learned so much from Maymay. Plus I think she's a Life Saver!!😇 Have Fun Stamping .... Jill 😊
@@jilllukas we should be a fan club. Lol. I have bought stamp sets from Maymay but maybe it's time to invest in stamp club. You can really tell that quality matters. Thanks for the tip.
Another tip to save money. I went to Walmart and bought vinyl/plastic placements in housewares for really cheap. I use those under my work......I have one color I use when gluing and a separate color I use when I use my Distress Ink/blenders or water colors. You can mix the colors on the placemat too and then wipe clean every time. Just an idea to keep your work table free of glue and paints for really cheap!
Everything and I mean everything that Maymay touched on in today's video is point on. I wish I had known these things starting out because it would have saved me so much money and frustrations. I have replaced all my "cheap" supplies with the ones that work so much better (the ones Maymay suggest) and I am a happy crafter. So glad you mentioned the weight of paper to use. When I learned the right paper weight to use it made such a big difference on the quality of my card. Thank you for all your videos.
Ladies and Gentelmen, I learned all of this from Maymay exactly one year ago. Let me tell you, there are a lot of videos to learn from but this is expert advice. You see, Maymay is truly the best card maker// papercrafter out there in u Tube land. Watch this video to the very end if you are a newbie. Luv n hugs,
Yes, yes and yes!!! I'm not sure how I stumbled onto Maymay's channel about a year and a half ago but I'm sooo glad I did. My daughter had purchased the Cricut Explore Air 2 for me and it sat there for a year before I unwrapped it. I binge watched Maymay's video's before I started purchasing supplies. I use everything that she presented and I love all those supplies. Thanks Maymay!!!!!😊
Maymay is SO right about a stamping platform, such as Misti. I've been making cards for about 3 years, and I can =never= get a stamp to look right with a stamping block. As a consequence, I was printing sentiments from my computer and every card I made had a flag banner. LOL! Two months ago I bought a stamping platform. I used to hate stamping but now I love it. I'm so happy you carry replacement blades for the Cricut portable trimmer. I was making a list as I watched. :-)
I've seen stamping platforms in Walmart - $20 CDN; so much cheaper than a Misti. I don't know the name of it (I'm on holidays and can't look), but it works just fine.
THANK YOU! Several years ago I tried making cards "on the cheap" and with things cut out of magazines, old cards, calendars, etc, and then glued in place. Some of them looked like the old ransom notes cut from newspapers. HA! I gave it all up in absolute frustration. Your videos make it look fun and exciting, and this video is just what I need to get me started. Time to do some online shopping. Thanks again.
I have dabbled for several years at card-making (with all of my scrapbooking supplies), but am now wanting to start my own little business. This video was SO HELPFUL!! Thank you!
I agree Maymay...I wasted sooo much paper before I got my MISTI. Now I am much more confident with a block... This was a great intro and review. Thanks Maymay. It’s so awesome that you want others to enjoy their crafting the way you do. Hugs and blessings.
I've been stamping for years now and loving it. I sure wish there was a video like this when I started, it sure would have saved me lots of frustration and money. Your video was great!!
Thanks, Maymay, for another great video. I've been stamping since the dark ages - when all we had were individual stamps on wood blocks and white cardstock. There was no patterned paper or fancy tools. I got addicted one Christmas when my mom gave me a Colorbox pigment pad and a snowman stamp from Hero Arts. I taught all my kids friends to stamp over the years, and now in their 30s, they still remember what fun they had. Anyway, it's much easier to create now, with all the great tools and stamp sets and accessories available. This video is one I will recommend to friends who have expressed interest in stamping but don't know where to start.
What a great video and I appreciate all the tips and tools you highlight. I got back into crafting last year and I am now thinking of broadening my skills and making my own greeting cards. This information will be extremely valuable. Thank you! I will be sure to look at your other videos.

I wish I had seen this 5 years ago. I have probably discarded or given away close to $500 in mistake buys. Thanks for sharing so many good tops. One thing I find to be handy is a T-ruler.
I have rubber stamps on wood. I didn’t know about the the clear ones until recently. I ordered some for making cat food can luminaries. I’m making them for a charity auction. They have animal themes. I’ve had trouble finding papers with certain animals like pigs. I really enjoyed this video!
Good solid list! I started card making buy using your suggested supply lists, and I've been very happy with my results. I always go by what May May recommend because she is right and doesn't steer us wrong. Thanks so much for your lists and being honest in your suggestions! I love your channel!
I had that problem myself. I had craft supplies in three different places and I would buy stuff I already had. And I didn’t have a designated crafts space. Not for all my crafts anyway. I just bought a Workbox 3.0 from the original ScrapBox. I have a small house and no extra rooms to make a craft room. Not that one couldn’t be put in a craft room. But if you are looking for something like that, you should look at their website. They do offer payment plans as well, or I wouldn’t have gotten one. (I do not work for them, I just love their product, and have found it holds a lot of stuff.). Good luck on getting yourself organized, it can be a bear.
Me three. The room I am doing my cards is totally disorganized! And I don't even know how it happened. I don't think I am a lazy person, just don't have places to put things or know how to organized the stuff. So it kinda piles up. Can't afford all those fancy cabinets/shelf/box things. 🙃
I feel your tip on the Misti is Absolutely Correct. I steered away from stamping 20 years ago.... naturally, the stamps are much better today... a Misti may have kept me stamping. The Tim Holtz ruler is a Must have! Thank you for making this video...
I went to my first cardmaking class yesterday. There is so much to learn, but it is so much fun. Your video explains a lot of my questions and I've saved it to refer to again later.

Perfect list.👍😁 Wish I had this when I got started. Over time, I gathered all these tools. You are right...sometimes better to get the actual tool instead of the "sale" similar tool that just irritates. Versafine is all-time favorite for sentiments. And your all occasion stamp set is terrific. Great size, easy to read. 👍

Yes- paper weight is so important!! I wasted a lot of cards not knowing about that! And Dew Drop Inks so worth the money for colors! Don’t waste money on cheap ink! Great Video!!
Dear MayMay- thank you for this video. I have been struggling trying to get help on questions referencing how to start stamping and or other crafting. So discouraging! Now I get it. I wondered why we needed all the “dodads” and now I get it. They really make a difference in how you make a craft work better for you. Thank you for the time to do this for us newbies. Now I know what all these tools do. On the Versafine- do you have sets that are basics or are they individual. If not, what would we be colors to begin with when you need color ink pads? Do you have a beginners card set that teaches fundamentals? You are a joy! I am so excited to make my first card! I don’t mind spending beginning crafters money now that I know what it all does. I truly appreciate you. Blessings.

Thank you for this GREAT video, Maymay. I just thought yesterday that I wondered if I could contact you and ask for something like this. I loved every minute of this video and find it so very helpful. I can’t wait for you to do a video on inks, etc. I see some videos where they use those very small square inks and wondered if that would be the way to go for having some colored ink to start with, without breaking the bank (after purchasing a large list of supplies already).
Thank you Maymay! I agree on the Misti, I got it and it made me love my stamping much more as a beginner, and I am more confident with it. I actually use it only :)
Great video..... She's right on what to buy... The Misti is a good idea.... And I have two cutters...a big one and small one but the small one was cheap but the acrylic arm where blade runs doesn't lift....I just bought a new one the arm lifts... Much better
Maymay, hello, can you please explain the difference between alcohol inks and water colours, I'm just starting up and don't understand when to use which ones? Thankyou in advance!
I definitely don't think you're crazy. I only wish I'd had a MISTI available when I started. I know it paid for itself not too long after I got it in the savings of supplies, my time, AND frustration when I previously would ruin a project just at the end after putting a lot of work into it by trying to stamp a sentiment with a block. Great advice throughout your video. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
I just realized the pen blade has a channel in the end to be able to distress the edges of paper, when the blade is retracted. Anyone else see that? Also, I get desk sized calendars to protect my work surface. I like to tear off a month and use it on my surface, so there isn’t any bulk. I can write notes or measurements down so I don’t forget them while I am creating. I roll it up when I am finished and use the back side the next time I create. I can find those calendars on clearance about March or April in the stores.
Great list of beginner tools. Love my MISTI. It's awesome. Wish it was around when I first started. I know Tim Holtz and Stampin' Up has their stamping tool but I haven't tried them because I haven't found a need to try another. BTW love your bracelet. Is it a spoon bracelet?
You are spot on about the MISTI. I collected stamps for years but ruined every card I tried to stamp. The MISTI has reopened the stamping and die world to me. (And I recently bought the Scan N Cut DX so I don't have to buy dies.) It is well worth the investment. Also, have you tried the Cricut True Control Knife? It is awesome!
Thank you so much for this tutorial I had started buyer thing but I stop. Card making now is so different from when I was doing and stamps we didn’t have block when the wood stamps, stencil scissors colors pencil. That was it oh and some paint 🎨
Thank you for an awesome video. Got a lot of info here which I loved. Now I know what to get. I also enjoyed the way you explain things. Once again thank you. Yes I did hit the subscribe and I liked it.
I love the Art Glitter Glue! It truly is a superior adhesive. I had trouble with Tombow liquid glue. It didn’t come out evenly, was awkward to squeeze, and seemed expensive to me. Maymay suggested it-I tried it-I’m convinced!
I am new to card and other paper crafting and found myself saying I did know what all I needed to really get started. So I am loving this video for that reason. Also, I am a quiller. That is my main hobby. I used to buy Lakeside glue because it dried quickly and came in the fine tip bottle, because in quilling, a little is best. They are going out of business however. I am on my last little bottle of glue and am looking for a new glue. Would the glitter glue be a good choice for quillers?
LilyStargazer0925 hi, I also do quilling and use the art glitter glue for it, it is a fantastic glue to use, it dries fast and completely clear. Here is the link for that: bit.ly/2sA2BoA Thanks Tamatha Social Media CSR
HI Maymay could you make a stamp for the multilayer cake on the cake stand that is in the paper pack that you showed? that is a fantastic fun cake. just a thought. xoxoxoxox
Opinions please: I’m fairly new to card making and love MayMay because I feel like the tools she has are all a reasonable price point. I have a very limited amount of space to hold my crafting supplies. The problem is that many stamp sets are cut but I would o lay use the sentiment or a few of the images. Any advice on how to get around the problem of spending money on stamps when you know you’re not going to use the entire set?

I agree 100% with the idea of have good ink. I tried cheap ink and the results were very disappointing - not good solid lines on the image.
Also, buy the reinker for the stamp pad. Nothing is worse than trying to use your ink pads and they are dry.

Maymay, hello, can you please explain the difference between alcohol inks and water colours, I'm just starting up and don't understand when to use which ones? Thankyou in advance!
Thank you Maymay for all of the ideas:-)
I definitely don't think you're crazy. I only wish I'd had a MISTI available when I started. I know it paid for itself not too long after I got it in the savings of supplies, my time, AND frustration when I previously would ruin a project just at the end after putting a lot of work into it by trying to stamp a sentiment with a block. Great advice throughout your video. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
I feel exactly the same. I had sworn off stamping till I got my MISTI around 3 years ago. Now I stamp all the time.
I've tried both the TH and the SU platforms and I always revert back to my MISTI. The others are just less fortunate relatives. IMHO.
Thank you so much for this video. It was so informative which I really needed. Also appreciate the links. Thanks for sharing
THANK YOU MAYMAY
Thank you maymay this is all good to know.
Love your videos!! Question, where to get the ink and ink eraser!!!
We carry them in our store at maymaymadeit.com
Thanks Tamatha
Thank you for this video! It’s super helpful! Any suggestions for cardstock that has color on one side and white on the other?
Thank you for an awesome video. Got a lot of info here which I loved. Now I know what to get. I also enjoyed the way you explain things. Once again thank you. Yes I did hit the subscribe and I liked it.
Maymay, great video! You covered everything!! Great recommendations!
I love the Art Glitter Glue! It truly is a superior adhesive. I had trouble with Tombow liquid glue. It didn’t come out evenly, was awkward to squeeze, and seemed expensive to me. Maymay suggested it-I tried it-I’m convinced!
All the basics covered. Perfect list.
Great tips Maymay! TFS. 💙
Here is the link for that: bit.ly/2sA2BoA

Great video. I wished I would’ve had your video a hundred years ago when I started! 😂 I hope you will do another in this series. Thank you.
Maymay! Please do a card kit video from that paper pack you showed! Like you did with the Christmas collection you did two years ago!
Excellent video and info. Thanks.
HI Maymay could you make a stamp for the multilayer cake on the cake stand that is in the paper pack that you showed? that is a fantastic fun cake. just a thought. xoxoxoxox
The MISTI changed my crafting life!
I notice you have several paper cutters (die cutters). For a beginner which one machine do you recommend to handle it all: cutting, embossing, etc.
