I love informational videos like this. Even if I know most of the stuff, it’s still fun to listen to. Plus there’s almost always at least one thing to learn. I might even try a few cars I never have before.

I remember buying the 90's mirage and discovering the mirage cup and the 70's mirage ai would always leave the 90's ones in the dust and I was thinking damn is the 70's mirage that much better? nope, another one of those race specific things. good thing I found out from the video that that's a beginners trap before starting a run with it (granted I never actually checked the stats on the 70's mirage). :D
the video is really good, deep in information and covers all early and license prize cars, but I wouldn't say it's a comprehensive list. If you check the used car dealers in between completing licences, you can get some pretty good starter cars: evos (II,III), which are better than the evo I first gen STIs, which decimate the early game, have a lot of potential with upgrades, can access (and be competitive) in lots of events and have a manufacturer event that can be beaten with a stage 1 turbo SW20s, but this time the GTS, which is an op starter in gt4, and I'd say quite better than the G-limited, which iirc cannot have a turbo there's probably more I left, but these are the ones that come to mind. (also STIs can be quite competitive in boxer cup without spending too much money, and you know what that means ;) )
Yes, I get this argument. However, I wanted to cover all the cars available at day 1, as covering other cars would open a lot of doors, dare I say, more advanced strategies.
The Acura DN-X is quite interesting as an early car. It doesn't quite feel right to me in normal races so I haven't used it much, but it's by far the fastest car I've tried so far for dirt tracks. With so much grip on the rear wheels, it's less likely to slide around corners and can even make use of the full 580 HP it can be upgraded to, while others tend to struggle for grip when upgraded to 420-440 HP. Being a NA car, it also has a wider and smoother power band than all the turbo rally cars for better corner exits. The only problems are that it requires a bit of care on the throttle around corners due to lack of VCD, and you need to finish the dirt races before buying any weight reductions or it becomes uncontrollable.
I looked past it because I didn't watch any GT4 speedruns. I knew I was missing something by not doing so, unfortunate. (Even if I kind of intended it to be for A-Spec only, still)
If you want an awesome start, do the B lisence, then go to early 90s used cars and buy a Honda Integra Type R DC2 for 8.8k. It can beat Sunday, FF and Capri rally stock with oil change and wash. Japan 90s cup and Type R meeting should be possible with Stage 1 Weight and Turbo/NA Tuning, Racing chip and whatever other handling mods you want. Those handling upgrades are optional... I think. And I haven't done the Type R meeting yet. But it should do it atleast if the NSX doesn't show up. I did this as I started GT4 on Emulator recently and it has been quite easy in the early game. The Civic type R was my first and I think it's great. I sold the race spec Civic I won from the Civic club and it gave me quite a lot of money very early in the game
For me i usually bought Civic, much like you, and later Impreza Spec C 2004 and later i also sold Impreza Race Car (Prize car from Stars of Pleiades) to get quite a ton of cash early in the game, probably around $1.965.398.
Most of the time I don't put LSD on the cars because I don't feel any difference. The upgrades I like the most are flywheel, clutch and engine balance, but I also prioritize suspension, ecu and exhaust.

Awesome video, as usual, but I'm wondering if you limited to the used cars that are only available on week 1. Because doing even just the B- license will cycle the days and the car list is different every single week. The 97 Camaro Z28 for example is pretty OP, it's available on week 4 and I believe it's under 10K (I could be wrong). Omitting cars that aren't on week one is understandable to keep the video length reasonable, but many/most people won't and don't need to buy a car on week one (the Lupo is free anyways), given you can't do much without a B license. I'm planning on doing a playthrough using only cars I've actually owned IRL, which should get me through everything in the beginner and professional hall except for Kei, pre-70s, trucks, boxer engines, and GTWC (although I want to beat the GTWC in a non-LMP).
Yeah seems only week 1 used cars were pointed out. I think at the very least (if we were going for full comprehension and had time for testing) a look at weeks 1-5’s roster would be great, since you need 5 weeks minimum to complete the B and A licenses. Honestly since we were also considering S license prizes in the form of the Cougar, it might be cool checking out used cars through Week 12. Still, Yellowbird’s list is definitely pretty comprehensive and in-depth already, so maybe he could do the other starters as another video? EDIT: If we wanted to be REALLY overkill we could probably mention used cars you can afford by selling license prizes. I’m pretty sure there’s a couple gems in the early game you just barely won’t be able to afford that could be circumvented with a little boost in cash (or by importing a GT3 save, but in that case why are you still here? lol)
@@bobthebuilder9509 Yeah, although it's very common for people to get the 3,400 from the Lupo, that would make the video too long. But since the licenses are mandatory anyway, there are a bunch of later week cars that deserve mention. Also think the silver and gold prize cars are an unusual addition, but the 270R is stupidly good for the effort. I actually just learned there is a 1970 Honda in the historic showroom for 11K that has enough power to be competitive in the world classics (at least without a Cobra or Buick Special). Would make an interesting starter car.
While i think showing cars fron week 2 would be valid, if you want to grind any car past the B license, is because you absolutely don't want to buy your starter car;
Yeah, I think the part 2 of this video is a must have and at the end of it make a real tierlist in tiermaker. The cars should be judged by how many events they can win, value for money and how much fun is it to drive certain things
Selling the Lupo and Nismo 270R, after completing the licenses, to buy the TVR Griffith as a starter is still my favorite path. It's a crazy bargain for 20.500 CR and if you tune it properly it becomes an amazing race car. Super fun to drive.
This was a great video! I had no IDEA the old new civic could be a decent buy, what a cool thing. I also did the 100k credit transfer from GT Concept and bought an Audi RS4 so my path was very strange but I was a child and it was 2005 so 🤣
The 1.4 lupo is actually an interesting car for me. It has a super wierd gearbox in this game wich allows it to have such ridiculous top speed of 150 mph(250 km/h). Sure it's too weak for such a gearbox but problem can be solved with an stage 1 turbo and nitrous. With this setup, good driving and some forza tricks you can win the Schwarzwald league A wich is going to give you the most wanted m3 gtr, only with 10 grands. It's mind-blowing. (The autumn ring is going to be a torture however)
Great video! But ive got to say, the title of "tierlist" is misleading considering you didnt make a tierlist for the cars. You just went over every possible starter car and listed their pro's and con's. Titling the video "Starter cars explained" would be more appropriate 😂 Cheers!
Did you watch the video? The tires are good, average, and bad. Which he says which tier the car would be in for each car.. doesn’t have to be visual, wouldn’t even fit on the screen lmao
Could've just skipped through until i found saw the car i was looking for but the video was to interesting to skip, super detailed and informative. Love it 👌👍
Hey Yellowbird, loved the tierlist of all possible starter cars, really showed some alternative choices. Any chance for more of this sort of thing? Like the Used Dealerships in GT1 or 2? Or if not that, a bit more on GT4's listings? The used car cycles show even more hidden gems that could be great to grab, for example checking it after getting a license or two, like alot of players are liable to do, since the scope of this video was the perspective of a new players first choice.
I used to start with the S13 Silvia, but the FC RX-7 is in my opinion by far the best. You can tune it up to about 400-500hp and it'll still be very easy to drive, on top of being very fast stock for the price.
Started a new playthrough recently, went with the Toyota Starlet Glanza V as the starter car. Maybe not the best, but a pretty good one. Did the Sunday Cup and FF Challenge easy enough, at least. Got an 80’s Mitsubishi Gallant after that.
Just started GT4 again but began by doing All Gold in the Licences and then Finishing the Mission Hall. Mission 34 is pure HELL on NTSC-J but the Reward is worth the Annoyance - R89C.
@@YellowbirdYT Definitely. The resets may as well be worth it given how it drives - a potential car to use in the GT Championship, Endurance and Extreme Hall. Did some races in the Regional halls to get to 25% so the cars I got from the Licenses, Missions Special Condition and Regional Halls are able to do REAL Damage. With a well timed purchase of a 10.0km Eunos Roadster, I'm able to do the 4hr Roadster Challenge and got a Yellow RX-7 LM. With a proper in game cash flow, I'm able to buy those 10.0km used cars without a care for its price. Now I just await the day where the 4 Black cars arrive at the used car lot.
Im not sure if its in week one but i think the toyota supra mark 3 2.5liter is also a really great choice after selling the lupo from national b license
Hey what settings are you using on PCSX2? I'm assuming that's what you're running to get the HD rendering? I'm currently struggling to not get frame drops at 2x native and am starting to think I might need to change some settings or upgrade my machine... Apologies if this is mentioned in anouther video!
It annoys me nobody realizes how broken the rsc is because of race car merits since all people do is sell it, It keeps up with the tuning car championship grid stock... although you need another group b or upgrades to win it.
As someone that used the RSC raid car in rally events not always sold it or used it in other useful events or suits yeah some people need to truly test them out for their capabilities and tuning potential not always selling and moving on or just collecting and moving on which I do sometimes Same with Tuner cars. Many like the OP S2000(always knew it's potential just never bought it and tweaked it but knew from the CPU events it appears in. Seeing speed but not always considered tuning or the handling/weight/grip as I should) or the Amuse one in GT5P (yes in GT4 as well) I always noticed not jused though. That or the R32 Golf many k ow for the cheap price, high speed difference that I more so noticed in GT PSP then GT4. Same with OP S2000 in GT PSP not so great sometimes as tuning in GT4 or 5 makes it better than GT PSP favourite system tweaks that kind of help but not much. Or I didn't push it enough besides what the opponent selection was and which tracks I used it with I probably used it incorrectly to its strengths.
How do you know exactly the grip modifiers? From code or something else? And what is the list of the top highest grip cars? A list of all cars with grip modifiers, would be funny to see from highest to lowest.
It's from a database in the game's data called SpecDB. I made a spreadsheet last year using SpecDB data that shows each car's grip modifiers, wind drag, wheelbase and other hidden stats. You should be able to find it if you Google "gran turismo 4 specdb spreadsheet". Edit: oh, I forgot Yellowbird linked to it in the description of this video, so yeah, it's there. You should be able to sort the cars by grip modifiers.
I started my save in 2014 with a red fwd 80s celica, it was a decent car i recall. Hell i still have it along with my save on my memory card lol. The most memorable gt4 car for me, along with the r390 road car that i have driven over 5k km in a spec, which is a decent amount. When i started a new save on an emulator, blue 80s CRX with magnum wheels. A hoot to drive when upgraded and tuned
Any possibility of doing a list for Gran Turismo 3? I recently attempted a "Miata only" challenge and was able to get 25% game completion with it. Might be possible to squeeze out 26-27% but beyond that is probably impossible
There are lots of used cars you can bought during day 1 and most of Streamers always find Suzuki Capucinno with low mileage or FC RX-7 1990 era. As for me, I will take 2 option : Lan Evo 2/3 or Impreza Ver.II which can be found almost for 10k and it was really powerful for B License since AI cars are mostly Compacts and Kei cars. Every people always have their own preferences and I always go for powerful but cheap to buy. Each Region have different prices on GT Auto and you will have cheapest on Europe but Expensive in US which most of us avoid US version since they are not friendly on early game.
My first playthrough of gt4 (which I'm still going through now), I was unlucky enough to pick the honda today G '85. But thankfully cheating in the Kei cup allowed to grind up a bit to win the kei cup races, and eventually i got the pontiac from sunfire gxp concept, now this car with nos was enough for capri rally with a bit of dirty driving. And after upgrades capri rally is easy, which means I would recommend anyone to get this car since it's rather easy to get and allows you to get a bunch of money easily since you can sell the prize car. And I'm not good at racing games either and am on keyboard & mouse. Means anyone should be able to save their playthrough without getting softlocked if they ended up getting stuck with one of the trash starter cars. I wish the best of luck to everyone and their endeavors in gt4.
I can't remember which car i started with in my first start, but i do remember that i pick the 89s Mazda MX5 in Silver Metallic in 9/10 times i start this game. I think it is a great car, has access to many races, is fun to drive and for me kinda nostalgia at this point. I had the RX7 once or twice, felt kinda wrong but sure worked out, and a Silvia. :D
Stage 5/Original turbo is better, tends to have a more balanced torque curve. Even if, in most cases, it might be like using a sledgehammer against a fly. Too much power can make cars harder to drive. But yes, stage 5 is better when available.
im gonna go ahead and guess that the lancer evo 1 gsr will either be THE number 1 pick, or at least in the top 3 with minimal upgrades it can beat sunday cup, clubman cup, 4wd, the lancer one make, japanese 90s, japanese championship, all easy and normal special conditions, turbo, and theres probably many more that i cant think of at the moment lol
I'm curious, with the mods mentioned here are they only limited to the budget or what you could get when you buy the car first? Because I'm a bit surprised that tires aren't mentioned here considering how much they also affect the car's handling.
They are limited to a 10K budget, a set of sport softs would cost you around 7K. While they are useful, I find there are better things to invest on at first.
you know, it is possible to start racing with the Zonda LM race car by winning prizes from driving missions (or to have a 318,000 credit starting fund...) as such my favorite starting car is the Dodge RAM Truck.
Throw in the Group C prototype R89C if you want to extend the Driving Missions further than the Slipstream Battles for the Zonda You’ll have to beat Mission 34 though heh
i went with either EK Type R or Evo (was it Evo I or II? idk) coz i think they left you with enough money for oil change but also had performance to boot.
Yeah I bought a Nissan Be in my current playthrough. Knew it would be a challenge an yeah It was tough. Took me a long time of saving up for mods. Many races getting 5th, 4th, 3rd place. It does handle extremely well though

While i think showing cars fron week 2 would be valid, if you want to grind any car past the B license, is because you absolutely don't want to buy your starter car;
Yeah, I think the part 2 of this video is a must have and at the end of it make a real tierlist in tiermaker. The cars should be judged by how many events they can win, value for money and how much fun is it to drive certain things
@@bobthebuilder9509for me i usually needed only 32 days to get gold medals on B and A licenses.
The captions are so good wth
This is so nice
Thanks! Glad you found them useful!
Imagine telling your child self you'd be watching an hour long video on gran turismo 4 almost 20 yrs later
Who would have thought we would have platforms which provide better content than TV.
For me the best is the Isuzu Piazza XE, such an underrated car, with italian engine and japanese bodywork
Japanese bodywork?
Sorry I meant chassis@@RickettsJr
loving the background music to the vid! also great vid in itself
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
I also did the 100k credit transfer from GT Concept and bought an Audi RS4 so my path was very strange but I was a child and it was 2005 so 🤣
I wasn't expecting it to be good either, but it is, pretty fun car overall.
(The autumn ring is going to be a torture however)
earn your first licence and you'll get a vw lupo, it sucks terribly. sell it and buy whatever has the most power from a used dealership, easy.
Great video! But ive got to say, the title of "tierlist" is misleading considering you didnt make a tierlist for the cars. You just went over every possible starter car and listed their pro's and con's. Titling the video "Starter cars explained" would be more appropriate 😂
Cheers!
Love it 👌👍
Well thank you! Glad you found my efforts valuable.
An indepth guide on gt4 suspension tuning would be a cool video
Hey Yellowbird, loved the tierlist of all possible starter cars, really showed some alternative choices. Any chance for more of this sort of thing? Like the Used Dealerships in GT1 or 2? Or if not that, a bit more on GT4's listings? The used car cycles show even more hidden gems that could be great to grab, for example checking it after getting a license or two, like alot of players are liable to do, since the scope of this video was the perspective of a new players first choice.
GT 1 and 2 are more simple, and their choices aren't as punishing really. A bad car on GT4 can give you a miserable experience.
I always think best starter car in gt 4 is a evo 1 or skyline gts-t. Many power, but low money.
always got the used red 92 evo as a starter
@@drowntone4986 in pal version start evo 1 in silver colour.
I used to start with the S13 Silvia, but the FC RX-7 is in my opinion by far the best. You can tune it up to about 400-500hp and it'll still be very easy to drive, on top of being very fast stock for the price.
A youtube carrer for a person who lives in south america is such a blessing!
19:40- The good ole Honda Today will NOT get you where you want to go today, lol
The car of tomorrow, because it never arrives.
It really should have been called the Honda Tomorrow, lol@@YellowbirdYT
Started a new playthrough recently, went with the Toyota Starlet Glanza V as the starter car. Maybe not the best, but a pretty good one. Did the Sunday Cup and FF Challenge easy enough, at least. Got an 80’s Mitsubishi Gallant after that.
Just started GT4 again but began by doing All Gold in the Licences and then Finishing the Mission Hall. Mission 34 is pure HELL on NTSC-J but the Reward is worth the Annoyance - R89C.
The R89C is really nice, it's a bit of a pain but an early group C breaks the game!
Now I just await the day where the 4 Black cars arrive at the used car lot.
the best starter car is the honda today clearly, a whole 2 cylinders of fury
(Motorbike not included)
Nice video man, I wish I had watched this before I started recording my own gt4 playthrough haha
You should be fine anyway!
Im not sure if its in week one but i think the toyota supra mark 3 2.5liter is also a really great choice after selling the lupo from national b license
My g I think you forgot about NTSC pal differences. The Acura dnx is not present in the pal release, there is the honda dualnote instead
Dawg, everybody knows, not sure where you’re getting your info from lol
As someone that used the RSC raid car in rally events not always sold it or used it in other useful events or suits yeah some people need to truly test them out for their capabilities and tuning potential not always selling and moving on or just collecting and moving on which I do sometimes
Same with Tuner cars.
Actually, there is. Check the description!
42:36 bro really entered pit 😂
Miata every time, great for Sunday, clubman, rwd, convertible races, and Japan races. It’s so versatile in available race entries
Miata is pretty good!
A tier list with no actual tier list?
I wish the best of luck to everyone and their endeavors in gt4.
this rocks, def subscribing and binging ur gran turismo videos 🔥
I appreciate it! Thank you!
I love that you add Pokémon music, gran turismo to me is the Pokemon game of cars
I wanted to play Pokemon and well, it came out naturally. Glad you liked it!
I remember the first time I played GT2, my first car was a new fiat 500. The poor thing could not even pass the first slope
50:50 made me laugh so hard, unexpected maneuver
Average Cita Di Aria moment.
Didn't expect pokemon music in the backround lol 👏
Small world.
Which turbo you recommend for higher tier? Stage 4 from factory or stage 5 from tuning house?
Stage 5/Original turbo is better, tends to have a more balanced torque curve. Even if, in most cases, it might be like using a sledgehammer against a fly. Too much power can make cars harder to drive. But yes, stage 5 is better when available.
The Isuzu Piazza was designed by the same person who designed the FIAT Panda, Delorean, Countach and DeTomaso Mangusta
good video but with a tier list its to have an actual visual list to see how all the cars are spread.
this is the part with the car
im gonna go ahead and guess that the lancer evo 1 gsr will either be THE number 1 pick, or at least in the top 3
with minimal upgrades it can beat sunday cup, clubman cup, 4wd, the lancer one make, japanese 90s, japanese championship, all easy and normal special conditions, turbo, and theres probably many more that i cant think of at the moment lol
a solid video of good advice for those who dont understand professional racing games
Why would the Mitsubishi Mirage softlock me?
The Pokémon background music… a man of culture 🤌🏼
Videazo amigo 🔥🇦🇷
Gracias!!
@@YellowbirdYT Gotcha, gotcha. 👌
Actual tier list begins at 11:23
Startercar!? This is a finisher car!
you know, it is possible to start racing with the Zonda LM race car by winning prizes from driving missions (or to have a 318,000 credit starting fund...) as such my favorite starting car is the Dodge RAM Truck.
Throw in the Group C prototype R89C if you want to extend the Driving Missions further than the Slipstream Battles for the Zonda
You’ll have to beat Mission 34 though heh
i went with either EK Type R or Evo (was it Evo I or II? idk) coz i think they left you with enough money for oil change but also had performance to boot.
The EK9 Type R doesn't leave you enough for an oil change, at 9990 credits, the Evo does though. And yes, Evo 1.
Maybe add timestamps in the future, the intro was rather long and I was wondering when what I came here for actually starts
I have a question. I built a ‘99 opel tigra and I was wondering how I should set up the downforce on front wheel drive cars?
Yeah I bought a Nissan Be in my current playthrough. Knew it would be a challenge an yeah It was tough. Took me a long time of saving up for mods. Many races getting 5th, 4th, 3rd place. It does handle extremely well though
dropping a sub while i wait for a starter car tier list for GT3 :3
you forgot you can get more than 10 000 cr if you sell the lupo AND get insane cars like the camaro or mistubishi if you wait a few weeks, this video isn't exhaustive :D
You missed one! The little white blue and red race car thing, I think it's a daihatsu?
Daihatsu has no race-cars.
PD had maked a 500hp daihatsu Which is called in NTSC-U and in the NTSC-J as Storia and in PAL as sirion, both the end words are rally car,yup i mention the Daihatsu Storia/Sirion rally car that only appeared in GT2 and didnt appeared in the later titles.
And abit of the bad news is that beast has been fictional Rally Car.
any cheap evo from the used garage will handle the competition for a while. this is my fave GT and still play it when i can til this day.
I managed to solve the lighting issue is to disable the advanced download mode it buried inside the advanced options
THAT'S NOT WHAT BEGS THE QUESTION MEANS
GT4 and Pokémon music. 2 of my favorite things 👌🏽
Ae86 was always my favorite
