I've been working on modding GT6 for over 2 years now and this mod for GT4 came out of nowhere for me. No wonder why GT6 modding development became pretty much silent except for myself and like one other person. GT2 A-Spec also opened up a lot of doors. Soon we're supposed to be seeing a mod for GT3 that brings everything from GT Concept and GT4P.
What's wrong with GT4's physics? Maybe is Forza the game in which you can recover the car from a drift always even if you play on a joystick. A big deal of emulation is making compatible the newest wheels. About tyre model, unfortunately the tyres of GT4 are rigid, there's no other way than playing a newer game, the best I suggest is Rf2, a game released 9 years later and not simcade
3:40 you can play with a modern controller on the PS2, a brook wingman PS2 converter will allow you to play with a PS5 controller (as well as DS4, DS3, Xbox controllers, and other controllers) on the PS2 . You can even reassign the button mapping with it. Ot even supports pressure sensitive face buttons as long as you use a controller with pressure sensitive face buttons. Being that the public beta has online play (using PS2online) i can only imagine this will be the go to version to play. Edit: I guess not as the network side of the game is disabled, bummer.
I started playing GT4 for the first time in my life 4 days before the mod dropped. I would have changed to play Spec II but I didn’t quite like the fact that they changed the prize cars. I played for a couple of hours and really loved the new engine sounds, that was the highlight for me, and also that some event now require only 3 races instead of 5 to be completed. Most of the content is actually really good, it was just the fact that the prizes are different that made me return to my NTSC save. I wish there was an only sounds mod, maybe some day. I will definitely try it again once I finish the vanilla version.
I started playing GT4 for the first time a couple of weeks ago before this mod came out. I still would like to play the original game first before I try this out, but I'm looking forward to it.
Man, I wish there was some sort of ARCHIVE ORGANIZATION where one could find the ROM... Too bad there's nothing like an INTERNET ARCHIVE or something like that.
The very only thing id like to have in GT4 is adjustment for countersteering speed. Thats the reason why its so hard to drift in this game, the countersteering recover is too slow, making the car losing control while the weight shifting.
Having played gt4 recently, I defitely still holds up, when I saw this I immediately thought "please tell me they managed to fix the rolling obstacle AI", since they haven't I'm a bit sad
A feature I would've liked to see, is the ability to change your car from the event screen. So that if your car doesn't qualify, you don't have to go back to the garage to change the car, you can just change it from there
One thing I like is that concept cars are treated like regular cars, they have a resale value and can be bought from the dealership once unlocked. For some reason, I started the game with 110 million credits and all the cars with 0 mileage, so I deleted the save and started from scratch.. have only completed the B license and a few events. Sunday Cup, March Brothers, and Muscle Car Competition.. the Charger Super Bee is a great prize car for getting all golds in B license, much better than a useless classic car.
The game is amazing to play. I dedicated this time of completion to do 100% without making any single purchase. So doing 24 hours of Nurburgring now... I love the content added and I do hope that devs will continue adding more events to the game, because the addition, although is there, is something that I would consider too small despite all the amazing other details added and revamped. Amazing job for the holy grail of racing games!
While I used to play GT4 a lot when it came out, I often found it very frustrating. Most of it came from the stiff chase cam that didn't give me any feedback on what the car was doing. I still don't get why the series keeps using it, but seeing this mod change that is already a very good reason to give this a try. Also changing the prize cars can only improve things, I remember getting one of those concept GT cars way early in the game and it just being the go-to for any race it was allowed in.
I have never played GT4 like as seriously in a playthrough, just arcade mode in PCSX2 because I've been a GT2 / GT3 user, so my question is if It's worth it to try out the base game in playthrough first or can i start off my first time straight with Spec II?
This project probably has MILLIONS of views considering most sim racing youtubers have had beta access for a year. Polyphony will see this and still produce garbage that we hate......amazing mod though!
Since I switched to PC and stopped using my PS4 for GT7, PCars 2 has been my racing game of choice lately because it most reminded me of GT lol. Saw Jimmy B playing this mod for the first time the other day and had to try to get it working. To my surprise, SUPER easy. PCSX2 needs very little fiddling, it's easy to patch the game, and all the in-game menus are fantastic. Got my G29 working just like it's a modern GT game, force feedback works and everything. I am so impressed with it all.
Hopefully this will be a wake up call to Sony and Polyphony Digital that if they won't bring back Offline campaign and bring it to PC we will find our own way to do it, Im using the Thrustmaster TS300 GT wheel setup - so much fun with steering wheel, the force feedback is so accurate
Using a modern controller, would you still have access to the games pressure sensitive/analog control? This was one of my favorite features of Gran Turismo from Gran Turismo three going all the way up to Gran Turismo six if I were playing with the controller!?
The only thing I'd really like to see is number of AI racers increased. Only having 5 opponents even on the biggest tracks and most high profile events is the biggest shortcoming this game had. What's funny though is I only noticed this after returning to this game as an adult last year.
Impressive mod. Would it be possible to partially patch the iso with only the features you want to add? I appreciate that many of these changes are optional, but some are not. Similar to the Morrowind Code Patch for example, which allows you to select which changes you would like to make to the exe. If not, perhaps some of these changes could be converted to Action Replay Max or Codebreaker codes which edit running memory? Such that we can select which to enable before launching the game, even on an unmodded ps2.
This, when paired with the texture overhaul 3.0, injected global ilumination ray tracing, and the online multiplayer makes it feel like a ps3 mid life game or a ps4 launch title. Game is what I miss about old racing titles, just need to somehow add visual mods to cars now

Cant thank the mod creators enough, this mod is awesome in so many ways, yet so familiar. Started a new playthrough yesterday and the amount of " routes" you can take to play through it all really increasd :) This mod wont hepl at all with the licenses or Mission 34 ( playing on keyboard with PCSX2) but theres so much other content to go with :) Of course the Randomizer is just fun but I also like the QOL improvments like selecting a car faster on race selection or having all assists turned off for every car. Its so sad that newer GT titles just dont have that kind of progression system/ options, while many other " sims" just dont have any progression at all...
It ain't funny? How a team with no budget and whose only fuel is passion and love for the game can pull something so top quality like this, whereas a multi million dollar game company comes out with the sad joke test drive unlimited solar crown is.
Because these big names hire people with no passion and no experience. That's why most racers and other games are shit. Heck, the people are shit themselves. Stop hiring these people.
passion always creates the greater product. people just working in a company deciding to make something to feed their families is an entirely different dynamic. that being said, making a whole new game from scratch is also an entirely different task than remastering and fixing up an existing game, so its obviously not a fair comparison. however for a fair comparison, there have been some serious junk remasters sold by companies that fanmade projects put to shame.
You realise the modders didn't make the game from scratch right? They only made a few tweaks to an already existing game, like what the fuck is this comparison?
Mod author state he did try to do it but it's due to limitations of ps2 that having more opponents to race against isn't possible. We have to remember og game was pushing the boundaries with being one of the few ps2 games that can play in hd at that time and like gt 2 pushing everything ps2 could handle. So it isn't feasible unfortunately but it's fine

All i can say is steering and force feedback is really good on GT4.
Maybe just try what i did, but i cant remember if i used any additional plugin to get FFB work, but i dont think so.
EDIT: On Global Controller settgins i use Dinput instead of Xinout. So Xinput is unchecked and dinput is ckeled in little box to activate it.
Only reason to get PC for me because I still go back to play 6th & 7th gen games on actual hardware but with mods like this is perfect to play these games again but with a new blend in place
Love this mod, making a good game even greater!
The only thing missing is real tachometers in the UI, other than that this is a good "remaster" 👍
Dude you drove so smooth in the Mine's Evo
Would you recomment this mod to a first time GT4 player? I played a lot of 1, 2 and 3 back in the day so I'm not new to the series. I'm into emulation lately and randomly thought about trying GT4 only to see that a huge new mode was just released for it, funny how that happens
Definitely
Absolutely love this new mod. It looks amazing the car list and track list is amazing it's just awesome
If only Kaz did stuff like this. Miss these games and now even made better by fans. It's crazy! I feel the passion is lost with the latest installments and rigid camera is still there after all these years. Mad
Reminder: The 4k Texture pack Mod is compatible and can make the game looks even better. Also, using it enables you to lower the render resolution and still get a very very very good looking result.
Which mod do you use?
@@AdvancedGamingYT Google "GT4 retexture mod v3.0" and look for the GT planet forum post.
I coincidentally was doing some retro gaming projects over the weekend, and realized I had a copy of the Online beta already, then added Spec-II. Not sure where I got my copy from, because I started it up with over a million credits and 700+ cars already lol. Definitely want a start from scratch copy of the game instead.
@@zerof0rce you need to get it from an "archive" on the "internet", it will pop up on the "hinted" website if you Google the MD5 hash from the Spec II website to get the correct version of the game.
I think that's the case with all the online betas, if you delete your save file and use the spec 2 patch while creating a new save you should start with 10k and no cars as normal
@@tuinderdome Awesome thanks I think that'll be more fun.
20 years later and the racing game scene is such a mess these days that we have to turn back to GT4 to get our kicks, and remember how it should be done properly.
Is it worth playing this if you never played GT4 before?
Yes
Totally
huge shoutout to the new curated list of prize cars. I love gt4 to death but knowing i will start every single playthrough with the exact same VW lupo and autobianchi makes the replay ability drop off a cliff after a few playthroughs.
What do you mean by curated list? The randomiser?
There's a different list of cars you get when winning events so that you can't just jump the gun like you could in vanilla gt4 as easily@@AdvancedGamingYT
I'm so glad you get actual useful cars when you win the license tests.
Hopefully they can patch the physics for realistic drifting
What's wrong with GT4's physics? Maybe is Forza the game in which you can recover the car from a drift always even if you play on a joystick. A big deal of emulation is making compatible the newest wheels.
About tyre model, unfortunately the tyres of GT4 are rigid, there's no other way than playing a newer game, the best I suggest is Rf2, a game released 9 years later and not simcade
I love it! Just downloaded. It's soo good. Like i remembered it! :D
The game was great 20 years ago. Spec II has made it great again❤
Will try it after i get my pc.
That opening attacked me and I’m not okay.
Bro is desperate for people to try take it down atp
The very only thing id like to have in GT4 is adjustment for countersteering speed. Thats the reason why its so hard to drift in this game, the countersteering recover is too slow, making the car losing control while the weight shifting.
Having played gt4 recently, I defitely still holds up, when I saw this I immediately thought "please tell me they managed to fix the rolling obstacle AI", since they haven't I'm a bit sad
I dont think that's even possible with mods
This game works in minutes on the most bare bones not even gaming laptop. My Xbox pad plugged straight in like a console. Fantastic.
How did you delete the save data? I couldn't figure out how to do this.
@@billybanter4330 From the BIOS menu, yk the one where you can see all the save files in the memory cards.
@hokihoshi what graphic setup are you using in this video ? Game looks better than normal
Now we need to add new custom cars like GT2 A spec and it is the ultimate game
Wow i have no problem with older games. Never had a playstation and only played gt4 beginning 2023. I will totally get this.
I'm still playing on the original Japanese version.
This is amazing! The only thing I'd add is "always max LOD" mod for cars. Does anything like that exist?
While I used to play GT4 a lot when it came out, I often found it very frustrating. Most of it came from the stiff chase cam that didn't give me any feedback on what the car was doing. I still don't get why the series keeps using it, but seeing this mod change that is already a very good reason to give this a try.
Also changing the prize cars can only improve things, I remember getting one of those concept GT cars way early in the game and it just being the go-to for any race it was allowed in.
You could also try 360° external cam patch for right stick
I accidently found a money method but I don’t know if it would be the same for everyone
Did you notice it has new physics from the limited online version.. That's why some licenses have different time requirements.
I have never played GT4 like as seriously in a playthrough, just arcade mode in PCSX2 because I've been a GT2 / GT3 user, so my question is if It's worth it to try out the base game in playthrough first or can i start off my first time straight with Spec II?
Event synthesizer looks like a great addition, you no longer need to cheese that one race for 250k price car.
This project probably has MILLIONS of views considering most sim racing youtubers have had beta access for a year. Polyphony will see this and still produce garbage that we hate......amazing mod though!
Polyphony will produce garbage you hate because you keep buying it
Since I switched to PC and stopped using my PS4 for GT7, PCars 2 has been my racing game of choice lately because it most reminded me of GT lol.
Yeah when I was a kid PS2 emulation was a mess.
@@gamernickdevhow did you get a thrust master wheel working with this ? I didn’t find anything for my t300rs
@@Sblance.sim369there's a bunch of guides on how.
I'm hoping my Fanatec wheel will work nicely with it when I get back home from a work trip!
10/10 mod
I highly recommend it!
I hope we will get more PS2 rom hacks in the future.
Did they happen to add any more other wheel support like for moza.... I was able to get my t248 to work but that's broken now ha....
Using a modern controller, would you still have access to the games pressure sensitive/analog control?
This was one of my favorite features of Gran Turismo from Gran Turismo three going all the way up to Gran Turismo six if I were playing with the controller!?
trying to get into gran turismo 4 a while back and was always confused on how you could tell how fast you needed your car to go for a event or race.
6:38 THANK GOD. The GT4 chase cam always annoyed me.
I would love to play this. But I don't even know where to start to get this installed. I read the mod's page but it all sounds so complicated.
the graphics on GT4 look better that TDU Solar Crown
This, when paired with the texture overhaul 3.0, injected global ilumination ray tracing, and the online multiplayer makes it feel like a ps3 mid life game or a ps4 launch title. Game is what I miss about old racing titles, just need to somehow add visual mods to cars now
aren't Family Cup or such already like Event Synthesizer? though no difficulty adjustments
does it add in the psp bugatti cars ?
I couldn't get my 360º rotation on chase camera to work after installing GT4O beta, although this mod used to work on my non online version (USA too). I don't know what I did wrong, since I followed the same steps
You most likely need to rename the pnach file to the new game ID, I've got the same mod working on my copy so I know it can work!

Im gutted it doesnt run on sd8 gen 2. Got normal gt4 to work though. NetherSX2
Did anyone manage to get a Moza wheel working with PCSX2 and GT4? I managed to get my R3 to work, but FFB cuts out every 20 seconds or so, very annoying...
Cant thank the mod creators enough, this mod is awesome in so many ways, yet so familiar.
Started a new playthrough yesterday and the amount of " routes" you can take to play through it all really increasd :)
This mod wont hepl at all with the licenses or Mission 34 ( playing on keyboard with PCSX2) but theres so much other content to go with :)
Of course the Randomizer is just fun but I also like the QOL improvments like selecting a car faster on race selection or having all assists turned off for every car.
Its so sad that newer GT titles just dont have that kind of progression system/ options, while many other " sims" just dont have any progression at all...
I NEED THIS
Please tell me the sky and backgrounds are also reworks. I remember GT4 being graphically phenomenal but I doubt it was actually that good 🤔
It ain't funny? How a team with no budget and whose only fuel is passion and love for the game can pull something so top quality like this, whereas a multi million dollar game company comes out with the sad joke test drive unlimited solar crown is.
It’s so true and crazy this is what they should have done for test drive unlimited smh
So good but I wonder if we’ll ever see more than 5 opponents. I’m guessing the game engine would likely tank?
Yeah it'd certainly be nice, from what I've heard though it isn't likely possible due to ram limitations or smth with the ps2
At least they sort of fixed the vacuum cleaner sound of American cars...
Nah not really
Play pc2 for v8 and compare
Can you please tell me the difference of Spec II mod and the 2022 Enhanced Mod? How come the mods using Public Online Beta (2GB) have less file size than the original gt4 (4.5GB)?
How can I get this?
Does the pc , steam , emulator versions have online racing features??
This mod is great for me, I used to play arcade mode all the time so I never got to experiece the single player mode.
20 years.... fml i m old
This game is so good on steam deck
Will this work on samsung s24 ultra without any corrupted data / fail to load cars / stuttering and stuff like that ?
It looks like I'll have to download it on the emulator here on my phone again.
does anyone have a link to a guide on setting this up on a steamdeck?
What's the difference between Spec II and the Enhanced Edition ?
Is the limit on 100 cars in the garage changed at all?
iirc, GT4 garage size is 1,000 cars, which Spec II didn't change the garage size
@@RedMageEspeon Oh really? I thought it was still 100 like it is in GT 1 - 2?
*checks Google*
Well what do you know, it limited to 100 cars in GT 1 and 2, 200 in GT 3, and 1000 in GT 4.
My life is a lie! I've been playing these for decades thinking the limit was 100 in GT 1 - 4 the entire time!
