No fancy stage lights, no smoke, no voice modulators, just pure, raw talent and stage presence unseen in anyone in the past 25 years or more. Dolly is my all-time favorite, but even I won't deny Tammy had the greatest female country voice in the business; full of pain, suffering, hard times and unadulterated emotion.

Dolly can harmonize to anyone. And even tho she's A strong soprano, her voice just flows with her partner, becoming the ultimate compliment. Never overpowering, yet sometimes unintentionally outshining the lead. Not true in this case. Tammy's voice is strong and unique enough to hold her own while being complimented. Beautiful.

In 1965 Tammy first sang on the Country Boy Eddie Show which led to performances with Porter Wagoner which led to a contract with Billy Sherrill n after repeatedly being turned down from others,,she auditioned for Bilily who was even reluctant to sign her but he needed a singer for the song Apartment No.9 ( which was an amazing version )
written by Bobby Austin n Johnny Paycheck n he was so impressed by her version that he he put her under contract straigt away,, Porter first introduced Dolly on his televisioin show in 1967 which kick started her career n Dolly eventually went solo n her hit song,, I Will Always Love You was written as a farewell to her former mentor n business partner Porter Wagoner n which she also sang a few notes for her close friend Tammy at her Memorial which poor Loretta Lynn was too heartbroken to attend,, Porter sure knew how to pick them,, I love both Tammy n Dolly,, I've never seen Tammy try'n over sing or out sing anyone she's done a duet with,, love how she controls her voice in that way,, Tammy always had great voice control n she always lowers her voice not to over take another singer when doing a duet specially with George Jones,,even though some have tried to over sing her or not that some have realised cause they can't control their voice in that way, not that she seemed to care it was all about the love n fun of doing duets with others,, but when she's singing on her own she can sing n reach them hight notes even more than dolly,, Dolly's always been loud,, she sings n talks loud with a high pitched voice n always full of energy n that's Dolly n she has the best sense of humur i've seen compared to most country singers,, n although Tammy can sing very high with that strong voice of hers she's never over sung her songs or gone up as high as she could've she sang it the way she wanted to sing them,, n Tammy can reach them high notes without effort n hardly opening her mouth she knew how to use her voice for that,, but i do love them singing together n they do have great harmony ( just like with Loretta Lynn n Linda Rhonstadt n Emmylou Harris n many more ) n they stayed very close friends for years n i love both their voices but Tammy's voice will always be untouchable n she still sounds better than most female country singers today,, She was called the first lady of country music for a reason :D

I can't believe I have never seen this. Dolly has such an amazingly versatile voice. Like a bird, as a so many say, fluttering around the notes, then landing on them with such great power. And Ms. Wynette; You can feel the intensity of every note she sings. Thanks for sharing this.

yeah absolutely I’ve been married for 32years I was 24 and she was 20. She got cancer in 2020 I was totally lost without her. She took a major hit the treatment was horrible for her. I could do nothing to change any thing so I felt helpless..I miss her everyday. Mothers are the glue that holds everyone together. seeing this makes me miss her even more I come to this page all the time just to have that nostalgia

God I miss that woman. At the risk of being a guy with a soft spot, I have to say that Tammy was my childhood. Her records spun while my mom cleaned house and my dad was off driving a truck somewhere. Her voice always takes me back so many years ago, I'll always treasure it.
