This song reminds me of my great grandparents. Great grandpa fought in ww2 and great grandma took care of the six children they had together. Their oldest child died back in 1972 and great grandpa died a month to the day later of a broken heart. My great grandma lived until 2020 and died only a few months before her 90th birthday. I miss that woman everyday more and more. She lived 48 years longer than her husband and she never dated or remarried. She truly stood by her man almost as much as she stood by God. I know they are together in heaven.

This song makes me cry every time I hear it, my dad and I used to sing and dance to this song in the kitchen. January 29, 2016 was the worst day of my life. Just a few days after my 10th birthday, god decided it was his time. The part that really makes me cry, is that I wasn't even at the hospital when he left. I just wish that we could've danced to this song one more time...

This song reminds me of my mom and dad. They loved "country and western," that's what it was called back in the 60's and 70's. On many bad weather days, dad would break out the albums (for you youngsters, that's what you now call vinyl) and play them on the Hi-Fi. (don't ask) We would sit in the living room listening to the records (albums, vinyl, just yet another name) hanging out and enjoying each other's company. I miss those days. This song brings me back.

    Lyrics
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
    You'll have bad times
    And he'll have good times,
Doin' things that you don't understand
But if you love him you'll forgive him,
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him oh be proud of him,
'cause after all he's just a man
    Stand by your man,
Give him two arms to cling to,
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
    Stand by your man,
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
    Stand by your man

I think this is a beautiful song that talks about forgiveness and everlasting love. There will always be hard times, it's how we deal with those struggles that makes us strong.

I grew up listening to this song from my mother, I don’t understand why we as women should stand by a man that does us wrong, but I did also as a native wife, why should men be excused for there bad behaviour, all I can say to younger generations don’t do it…

Whenever I hear this song I think of my Mom. She put up with with my Dad for 47 years and stood by his side til he passed from cancer couple years ago. He put her through hell with his hard drinkin’ & stayin’ out... Not once did she cry or complain or leave- she lived for him and her family. They don’t make women like my Mom anymore, and I love and appreciate her so much for all those years she put on a brave face for us kids. She truly loved my Dad with all his imperfections and faults. To this day she wont let anyone badmouth my Dad in front of her and only speaks fondly of him. I’ve learned so much about forgiveness from my Mom. Now she has cancer and struggling day to day but she’s still the strongest woman I’ve ever known. God bless you Mommy. I ❤️ you.

My mother passed in 2019 and was a real survivor she left our family when I was only 6. Very sad story I could only see her after therapists said it be ok because she was dumpster diving. I went with her. I loved my mom so much. She got her own place and in a perfect view of the Rockies and was on her town council as part of 3 jobs she was doing before she passed. RIP

Love when Tammy powers it up and the guitars ramp up when she belts out, "Stand by your man"...many have tried to cover this great song, but Tammy owns it and it will always be hers alone. A true country classic.

Dolly Parton once commented that no singer could "get it [the music] out" as well as Tammy Wynette. Not easy to project that powerfully while controlling every nuance.

@@mphrdldn I always sing along to this song, and my voice cracks and shakes everytime that last "man" comes. She's truly a legend; I doubt most modern day professionals can keep up with her. Never heard anyone sing this well with a passion like she can.

It’s so hard to listen to the Highway Men, Willie is the only one left and we’ve lost such treasures in this group. It actually hurts when you just expect them to be around forever. Each one has left such a legacy and they will be known forever in history. God bless.

@user-yl9fs8mj9q and. I'd leave too if I wasn't happy. Nothing wrong with knowing what you want. Just cuz she sang a son doesn't mean she lives that. Yall get life twisted when it comes to singers. Thinking they really go through the shit they sing all the time. Some is from life experience but not all of it. Like really
