To the person reading this, Good Luck! Don't stress, everything will be fine. No matter what difficulty you are facing right now, you can overcome it! You are strong and brave.

When I was 18 years old, my boyfriend (who is now my husband) was getting ready to deploy overseas. The night before he left, he took me into his living room then put on this song and danced me around his living room while he sang it to. Many, many years later, the best man at our wedding sang that song for our bride and groom dance. It's been 30 years and two kids and that is still one of my favorite memories. ...................................... It nearly broke my heart when I learned Kenny Rogers passed away . , Kenny, you meant more to the world than I think even you knew. Thank you for the memories.💖
I woke up this morning to learn of this legend's passing. Kenny Rogers was an amazing artist, he surpassed limits and was an icon not just of country music, but all things Americana. He is one of those few who had "IT.". I saw him performed in 2016 and when he sang The Gambler I sobbed. I felt so lucky to have heard that performance live. Mr. Rogers, with your talent, your advice, your example, your patriotism, your songs, you gave this could try so much. Thank you for so many memories and lessons. May you rest in peace. I hope as you showed your last hand you remembered that beyond your family you were loved and respected by countless fans across the world.
So sad to hear about Kenny Rogers. He taught me how to know when to hold'em, fold'em, when to walk away, know when to run. To never count my money at the table, and that there was plenty of time for countin' when the dealings done.#KennyRogersRIP
Why I've always cherished this song is because it's a message that everyone, at times, needs to follow. Be aware of what and who's around you, knowing that your daily life is a gamble. It's a game where you have confidence in yourself, know when to evaluate yourself, learn to accept and trust others, run away from fear but towards what you feel is your calling. Give yourself faith and do your best, self evaluate, and finally... balance! I find it a message on how to live the life you've been dealt. This will always be a gamble. Play your cards right!
So sad. My 6 year old daughter loves this song among other hits of his and were all sad that a legend is gone. Grateful that he left us these wonderful songs/memories
First the "gambler" wanted a swig of his whiskey for some "free" advice, then he bummed a cigarette, then he needed a lighter (that I guarentee he pocketed) I don't think this guy was a gambler at all, sounds more like a slick talking GD con artist to me, I swear I know a dude just like that named Lonzo. It was probably him.
How could anyone dislike this song really?? WTF is wrong with you? This man is a legend he folded his cards to go to a better table with more players. RIP Kenny
This song is not just about gambling, its about life. Rest on Sir Rogers. Your songs make more sense to me now as a full grown adult working and paying bills.
My husband would turn this song on, look at me and hold out his hand and we would slow dance to it. He was dying of COPD...about 3 weeks before he passed, he turned it on one more time. I looked at him, helped him up from his chair and he literally hung on me, as he was too weak to stand on his own anymore and we shared...one...last...dance. RIP, Robbie...I love you.
I've lost loved ones...the best of them go too soon it seems. Believe me, he got more out of this life meeting you, knowing you and having you, and more in his last days than most can ever hope for. Rest in Peace....indeed.
This is one of the tough parts of getting older: Watching your favorite childhood entertainers pass-away. Rest in peace, sir. Thank you for the many years of great music.
That is what my dad said today. He is 72 and I grew up listening to Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, all these great country singers, because of my dad.
I agree 100%. Losing musicians, actors, athletes, all the people who've entertained me throughout my life makes me realize I'm getting older when they pass on. I'm 52 and feel the same as you. Sometimes I feel like I'm living on borrowed time and I'm just existing until my time is up. I feel like my best days are behind me. At the same time, I'm grateful for everyday and try not to take it for granted. I thank God every morning and night for every day he gives me. R.I.P. Kenny!!
This was my mom's favorite song. I always liked it, but it took on completely new meaning after she passed. Battling with kidney failure, crippling arthritis in every joint, among other issues, she made the decision to stop her dialysis and enter hospice. She was an incredible woman with a completely unconquerable spirit. She taught me how to love unconditionally and how be a total badass. Play the cards you've been dealt, not the ones you wish you'd been dealt. Play them as best you can, and win as many hands as you are able. Know when your cards are not likely to bring victory, and take those losses in stride. And, at the end of it all, know when it is time to count your chips and excuse yourself from the table. She lived those ideals every day of her life, right up until the last. She went out on her own terms, not those dictated by her situation, and she did so knowing how loved she was, and how much she meant to everyone that ever knew her. Her wallet wasn't overly full, but her stack of chips was piled to the moon. I hope she's having fun with Kenny up there.
I understand. This song reminds me of my pops lost him a lil year ago... Man how i miss him... What i wouldn't give to hear him cuss me out or take his belt to my backside. 😊 that crazy old sob wss old school... They will always be with us. 😉
I cannot listen to this song without sobbing like a child. RIP, Gambler. I got to see him in Austin on his last tour. He had just gone through a knee replacement, but he still sounded amazing. I saw a legend. How lucky was I?

A couple of days ago my dad’s best mate & very close family friend had his funeral, this was the closing song. He was like a second father to me… every time I hear this song I think of him. RIP Richard.
I grew up in a Spanish speaking household. My father introduced us to Kenny's music as kids. I learned to love it without even knowing what country music actually was. Kenny had a talent to make music pleasant to both young and old and from every nation.
34 years ago in 5th grade. I sent a letter to Kenny. He sent me a 12x 12 picture signed. I still have it to this day. He's legend

RIP Kenny Rogers
7 November 2024 still enjoying this
From Morocco 🇲🇦
I come from a military family. We would come home when my father had leave and listen to Kenny Rogers, Alabama & the Oakridge Boys on the trip. I know every word to every song of yours.
Thank you Kenny.
Yes Kenny Rogers I LOVE his Music!! RIP
Your in hearts 😔😔😔😢😢😭
Awesome stuff man..good bless man
Sounds like my childhood. My father particularly loved Alabama, those guys could really play. Back when country music was right in the sweet spot of time it had developed and still tremendous respect for what came before them. I listen to modern country and shake my head. Classics like these get better over time...

Wow, I'm teared up over here. You and your family sound awesome. Damn 👍
He truly was a legend. This is what true country music sounds like..
Always great to comeback to Kenny Rogers after that terrible news on Hollywood. It is literally like you seeing campfire in the middle of dark woods
"There'll be time enough for countin', when the dealin's done." Rest in peace, sir. Thank you for what you gave us.
Honestly. I miss his music

Another legend gone, big shoes that will never be filled
Like George Jones says (who's gonna fill there shoes)
Jace Jackson yessir
so right .. well said .. he will be missed !
You got that right. Most of the good ones are gone sadly.
No one will fill his shoes. He’s a treasure
So sad to hear about Kenny Rogers. He taught me how to know when to hold'em, fold'em, when to walk away, know when to run. To never count my money at the table, and that there was plenty of time for countin' when the dealings done.#KennyRogersRIP
rip Kenny. you have been always been on my playlist in the back of my mind for my entire life
I hope you know Kenny did not gamble -- but he sure knew how to sing with his heart. R.I.P. Kenny
I absolutely love the song, how're you doing?
Great song still in Sept 2024
Why I've always cherished this song is because it's a message that everyone, at times, needs to follow. Be aware of what and who's around you, knowing that your daily life is a gamble. It's a game where you have confidence in yourself, know when to evaluate yourself, learn to accept and trust others, run away from fear but towards what you feel is your calling. Give yourself faith and do your best, self evaluate, and finally... balance!
I find it a message on how to live the life you've been dealt. This will always be a gamble. Play your cards right!
And pick your battles wisely as well
This is my mothers song
Amen
You just answered my question in LA thank u aha
Good lad
Rest in peace, Mr. Rogers. Your contributions and legacy will stay forever.
End of an irra
So sad. My 6 year old daughter loves this song among other hits of his and were all sad that a legend is gone. Grateful that he left us these wonderful songs/memories
The man has passed on but his legend will continue to grow and live on forever.
Your daughter sounds like an old soul!
The longer you live the more this song make sense.
So much yes. I can't like this post enough.

_And somewhere in the darkness, Kenny, he broke even._
_But in his timeless songs I find an ace that I could keep._
Classy!
Quite excellent new lyric!

Well said my friend.

This is the greatest life lesson we can teach our children. Thank you, Kenny Rogers. The poker game of life.
what
so damn right
The only game that counts!! The words are brilliantly crafted for living life!
🗿🗿🗿
First the "gambler" wanted a swig of his whiskey for some "free" advice, then he bummed a cigarette, then he needed a lighter (that I guarentee he pocketed) I don't think this guy was a gambler at all, sounds more like a slick talking GD con artist to me, I swear I know a dude just like that named Lonzo. It was probably him.
No matter what kind of music you’re into, you can’t deny that this song is one of the greats. Bravo, Mr. Rogers.
Indeed Sean indeed
Blessed the Truthers Sean Douglas! Bless You!
No arguments there Sean.
Completely true. I listen to punk rock & west coast gangsta rap
Even as a kid, probably 8 years old, I understood the power of these lyrics. Now, decades later, theyve just developed more layers of meaning.

Probably people that have had their lives ruined by gambling addiction. I've loved this song for years, just thinking logically.

No i would say it is losing all your best friends.
R.I.P. Kenny!!
Soo, are you here to fix the cable? ;-)
All jokes aside, R.I.P. Kenny Rogers
@sebbe91 - Indeed, I am expert.
And somewhere in the darkness, the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
Just like my mom, she died 2 years ago❤
This was my grandads favorite song, we lost him last week and this is the only song I can listen to. That man was my hero.
