    I can almost breath this with one of my earliest memories. I was a child with my grandfather driving on an old dirt road in an old ford truck. A nice fall evening with the windows down, sun falling. .22 in the back looking for snowshoe hare with this song playing.

    I woke up this morning to learn of this legend's passing. Kenny Rogers was an amazing artist, he surpassed limits and was an icon not just of country music, but all things Americana. He is one of those few who had "IT.". I saw him performed in 2016 and when he sang The Gambler I sobbed. I felt so lucky to have heard that performance live. Mr. Rogers, with your talent, your advice, your example, your patriotism, your songs, you gave this could try so much. Thank you for so many memories and lessons. May you rest in peace. I hope as you showed your last hand you remembered that beyond your family you were loved and respected by countless fans across the world.

    I cannot listen to this song without sobbing like a child. RIP, Gambler. I got to see him in Austin on his last tour. He had just gone through a knee replacement, but he still sounded amazing. I saw a legend. How lucky was I?

    This song was a huge part of my childhood. I'm a metal head at heart but I do appreciate and love other genres of music. I didn't even realize we just passed 4 years after his death. Maybe that's why the song popped in my head today, I hear you Kenny. R.I.P. legend. ❤

    My Grandfather taught me to play black Jack, poker, and gin to this song and these were some of the most precious memories I have.
    My Granddaddy said: The first rule is the house ALWAYS wins. I took that lesson to heart and settled alot of outstanding debts with this world view.
    I know it sounds odd but for a great many who have no other option life is "THE GAME"...and we shake hands with the devil everytime we fall asleep.
    I have no regrets. I kept promises and blood vows.

    1978 is when the song was released, Mr Rogers would only have been in his 40’s. I can’t believe in this video Mr Rogers looks a lot older, he looks like my dad when he was in his 60’s.

    I recall this song when it came out and played all the time on car radios as a kid 8yrs old in Ohio. I was sick of adults playing it that year but now hearing it again as an adult it brings back memories and the song is truly timeless.

      Tomas Balciunas music is a magical way of teaching. I remember music more than anything from my childhood. Its why I don't think two year olds should hear gangsta rap. When I'm alone in the morning, at my worst, hangover and sad, what I hear in my head is Eagle's songs. My dad was a musician so I don't doubt that factor, but no child should ever hear music promoting something horrible. I remember songs I learned in other languages as a kid, including Latin and an African tribal language. Dude. Seriously.

    Just discovered this song by reading the story of the Beaconsfield miners. Two people were trapped in a mine for two weeks and that was the only song they both knew, so they were singing it all the time to keep their spirits up. A great song and it probably played a small part in keeping those two people alive and sane.
