  • I was supposed to be fixing up the PlayStation Classic that I took the donor chip off on my last PS Mini fix. But like the idiot I am, I made the working one faulty again in the process.
    Let's see if we can fix them both!
    Hope you enjoy!

    It looks like your battery pack supports 9v and 12v usb power delivery. I don't think the amperage is what killed the console, but the fact that the monitor requested a higher voltage and the battery ended up sending that voltage to the console as well, since they were connected to essentially the same port.

    • @kyle8952

      Yes exactly. Amps are "sucked" by the thing consuming it. Volts are "pushed" by the thing producing it. It's why we have sockets that can give 13A but you can plug a little 0.1A thing in and nothing goes bang.

      @@ovalteen4404 Nope, if one USB port has a request sent to it by the connected device for a higher voltage, that voltage is sent to both ports instead of isolating the feature to just one port, its a really stupid design.

    I don’t understand how a monitor that takes more amps can fry the PS Classic. I’m not much for electronics theory, but the way I understand it is that amps are drawn, not pushed, so any parallel device that draws more amps would not somehow force more amps into the other.

    • @lavatrout
      @lavatrout Год назад +1

      I was wondering this myself. Maybe the jump in power required to drive the monitor pushed some extra voltage into the PS? Would need to know the circuits better to really understand what happened, but assuming that the monitor needed more power (it needed more current), then the driving power supply would have needed to push a little extra voltage. V=IR, so if the extra voltage went into the PS, then it would have forced more amperage and in turn more power and voila! You have a plastic BBQ.
      Shame, though, as I'm an advocate for putting power regulation circuits and fuses into products, and its honestly a little cheap for the PS to not have one. It should always be the responsibility of the product to account for poor voltage supply (ie. brown outs, electrical storms, shoddy home wiring, etc). You'd need to put this thing on a surge protector to keep its voltage at an acceptable level, and I'm sure a lot of people are not doing that.

    • @jcon6734
      @jcon6734 Год назад +3

      My guess is that the monitor was USB C powered, and took more than 5 volts. When he plugged the monitor in, it would have asked the power bank to start outputting that higher voltage. The voltage meter probably just passes the battery voltage through, and started sending the higher voltage to everything connected to it.

    Ohms Law : V = I x R.
    So current is dependent on either supply voltage or resistance, therefore the device itself will determine how much current it draws due to internal resistance. So, you cannot feed too much current to a device, unless that device, through a faulty component etc, draws excessive current, or you increase the supply voltage. Analogy often used to explain Ohms Law is water in a pipe...but that's another story.....

    Now that you did it Steve , hack one with Autobleem (you can actually bypass the power limiter the front USB ports have by soldering 2 small pins that a video on RUclips shows , to insert bigger USB drives , or install Autobleem's kernel and use an OTG with a usb drive that has the hack and games in the back) and add more games , do emulation of Retro consoles etc etc , the worth of it is so much more when it can do so much more.
    and Autobleem is not unfriendly with the system , because it will NOT change anything on the system internally (as everything will operate from the drive) aside from the kernel (which is also optional but needed for OTG) and restoring kernel to stock one is easy long as you keep the backup it makes. Good fix Steve

    To much current wouldn't fry anything since the equipment draws the current that it needs. So you could have a power supply that can supply 100A connected to equipment that draws 100mA and it would be fine. However the voltage has to remain the voltage that the equipment requires. To little voltage and the equipment doesn't run. To much voltage and it will fry the equipment. What will of happened is that when you plugged the monitor in it caused a voltage surge. Which blew the chip and caused it to go short circuit. Since it went S/C it started drawing 3A. Basically it seems like the PS classics do not have any over voltage protection which is a bad design.

    • @SineMemoria
      @SineMemoria Год назад

      That's what I thought, too. Probably too high voltage on the USB because the monitor negotiated a higher voltage using the QuickCharge standard or similar.
