I swear the first time I went to the cinema alone changed my mf life... now I love doing stuff alone and taking myself places, I don't have to worry about other people being free or not doing exactly what they want to do, it's so freeing and relaxing!!
Doing things alone is just so wonderful sometimes. You feel a sense of freedom that you don’t always have with others and it can be immensely rewarding.
Another nice bookstore with an English book selection in Amsterdam is Scheltema! And there’s actually a really good used bookstore with all English books just around the corner from where you were filming before having the scone!
"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" can also be found in the collection The Wind's Twelve Quarters and The Compass Rose by Le Guin, which is so much easier to find in bookstores. Hope you enjoy it!
lol I love that random smash or pass romance edition.. Did you pick up that Terry Pratchett? I'm just starting the discworld series.. on book 3 now and really enjoying. as a new booktuber, I'm finding your content very inspirational. cheers
going on me-dates is one of my favourite passtimes! like taking myself out to the cinema or for lunch, a couple of weeks ago i went to den haag by myself to visit the kunstmuseum and bookstores there and just look at the architecture. today i wanted to go to amsterdam by myself but didnt feel well enough, so i'll probably go later this week and this gives me some good inspiration to know what to do there! 7:42 Also, some time ago i read The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was interesting, i recommend it! And actually, the collection with The Wind's Twelve Quarter on that shelf does in fact also include The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas (i know bc i bought it recently because of that lol)
aah, this looked lovely. I remember when I went to amsterdam a couple of years ago and I'm itching to go back. love your videos! they're a source of comfort in my daily life
"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" is such a vivid story. It reminds me of "The Lottery", which I think has kind of the same anti-conformist message.
From another comment, feeling that sense of freedom when doing things alone feels so good. And enjoying the things you adore completely and fully. Hoping To visit Amsterdam in the future, ahh!!
oh this made me miss amsterdam so much! I was there in 2018 and 2019 but I didn't have time for rijksmuseum since I went to the van gogh one and I had concerts there too :( also, can't wait for you to read iron widow!!
I am actually planning a solo day trip to Amsterdam too and this video popped up on my feed, a sign! Thank you for the extra motivation, it would be my first solo trip but the city has been on my bucket list for so long 🌸
Have you read Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick? It's inspired by Swedish painter Carl Larson's painting Midvinterblot, which is part of a group of his works on permanent(?) display in one of the Swedish museums. The backstory of the real painting is amazing! I read the book first, then looked up the painting and it blew me away!! This is just SUCH an amazing book, only about 275 pages and it pulled me right out of a reading slump!! Plus I think it's a good one for fantasy readers, romance readers, just everyone!😉 That day trip you had is a dream for me!! Of course, I'm in the U.S. so definitely more than a half hour!😆 Thank you for another fun video! I always look forward to seeing what new adventure you're up to!!🤗
That would be a dream come true to come to Sweden! I'm from Arizona, U.S.A. so unfortunately no train rides will get me there!!😃 It's definitely on my Bucket List, though!🤗
I love what Julia Cameron (The Artist's Way) calls artist's dates - a solo expedition to feed your soul. I often meet my daughter for lunch in London but get there ahead of time and walk around and then head to a cafe after our lunch before going to the theatre - lovely - got one planned this week! I've recently discovered Sarah Moss - she's excellent at getting inside characters' heads and giving them their individual voices, but I haven't read Ghost Wall yet. Amsterdam is a great place - I went there three years ago but can honestly say I've never been so cold - and I'm from the UK! Great video!
The author of Iron Widow described it as "like a bunch of furries engaged in a dragon ball z fight" and not gonna lie that definitely made me intrigued enough to buy it and add to my tbr too lol

Finished the Iron Widow a few days ago and really liked it! Looking forward for the next book in the series 🤩
Got introduced with the channel after reading a review about popular book vlogs in a local magazine. This is the first video am watching from this channel. Just awesome. Best wishes for you from Bangladesh
ahh this video could not have come at a better time, I just booked a trip to Amsterdam yesterday(I'm traveling from Sweden in 2 weeks) so this definitely gave me some inspiration on what to do!
It also took me a bit to dare do stuff by myself but I also enjoy it a lot and don't feel uncomfortable about it anymore. Especially with be being a nurse and doing night- and weekend shifts it isn't always easy to get together with friends that work Mo-Fri. And now I got a little one as well. So when I am off work and she is at Kindergarten, I am out there enjoying life by browsing through book stores and devouring delicious food :D I will be in A-dam in mid May and will definitely check out these two book stores. My husband told me they will just drop me off there and go Sightseeing :D Oh yeah. Romance books. Not really into them but I might give Tessa Bailey a chance.
I think one of my moms friends lives in Amsterdam! It looks absolutely gorgeous there, I’m from america in a smaller like countryside area so I love seeing places like that
Weird that in class this semester we read both "the ones who walk away from Omalas" and "The Yellow Wallpaper" and you mentioned both of them in this vlog lol
I love spending a day out exploring on my own! Great video. Iron Widow is also on my TBR. Regarding The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, it is a really great short story. It’s often studied in American Literature classes, and you should be able to find it on line to read for free. I understand if you want to wait and find the book though, she’s a really fascinating writer and her short stories are always very interesting and make you think! Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Ursula Le Guin fan here. I dont know if those book stores are categorising books purely by genre or by author, but with finding Volume 2, try checking Sci fi rather than more speculative fiction areas. Volume 1 is pure speculative while Volume 2 plays up the Sci fi/surreal world's that Le Guin does so beautifully!
Maria Gainza is an argentine art critic who's novel Optic Nerve features a lot of paintings and the character's reaction to them. A really good, quick read.
I'm going to Amsterdam next week and so excited! Where did you find the paperback of Iron Widdow? I usually don't buy heavy things on city trips, but the stores in Belgium also seem to have only hardcovers... Edit: aha I have rewatched the video and deduced it was probably the American Book Center 👍 I will be raiding them next week!
I’m hoping to do the same thing you did in Dordrecht this week:) it’s only like 20mins away from where I live. I feel like the vibe is good there but it’s not as busy as Amstwrdam and I like that
I am trying to do more things on my own, but I'm starting small so far. I am interested in seeing what you think of Ghost Wall. Personally I didn't like it, the way it was written really didn't work for me. I too love The Yellow Wallpaper, and that is a nice edition, and the one beside it on the shelf has so much of her writing and I would actually recommend that particular one. The stories throughout it isn't like The Yellow Wallpaper but they are still good and good reads as well.
omg ik wist helemaal niet dat je nls was maar ik kijk al heel lang je video’s!! abc is me fav, kom er wekelijks en dezelfde boeken zijn er goedkoper dan bij waterstones
Aw I really liked Farenheit 451. The emotion was there, even if the worldbuilding wasn't. It got the point across better to me than 1984 because I really felt the despair of living in a world like that. Kind of more like a short story than a full on book tho.
Lol Ik ging stuk toen je zei dat midsommer een van je favoriete films was. Toen ik die in de bios zag vond ik het echt vreselijk, haha. Maar ik snap wel waarom mensen hem wel nice vinden.
hi! I'm new to your vlog and loving' it so far! I'm planning for Amsterdam trip this month, and wondering if going to kuekenhof, is it worth it to buy tulip festival card since it is quite pricey compared to the normal ticket though..
Thanks for the video. I've been to Amsterdam a few times but it has been a while. I was supposed to go again recently but Covid lockdowns intervened. I've read Ghost Wall. It's a interesting read. You think it is going to be one kind of book and then it becomes something else. I'd recommend Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner as a book that does something similar, but perhaps even more drastically.
I only go alone when book shopping because I worry about people having to wait for me 😅 it's just one of those things you kinda have to do by yourself in my opinion
I swear the first time I went to the cinema alone changed my mf life... now I love doing stuff alone and taking myself places, I don't have to worry about other people being free or not doing exactly what they want to do, it's so freeing and relaxing!!
i be having hard time finding things too do alone 🥺 but i am going to find something
Doing things alone is just so wonderful sometimes. You feel a sense of freedom that you don’t always have with others and it can be immensely rewarding.
This vlog is so beautiful! When i come back to Europe i'm 100% going to Amsterdam 😍
yess please do come to amsterdam!!
YES LILY!!!!!!
You got to gk to domicnicanen in maastricht its a old church but A BOOK STORE ?!!
Another nice bookstore with an English book selection in Amsterdam is Scheltema! And there’s actually a really good used bookstore with all English books just around the corner from where you were filming before having the scone!
I love how you randomly did the smash or pass and also telling us which classics are worth it and which are not, those were really fun bits
"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" can also be found in the collection The Wind's Twelve Quarters and The Compass Rose by Le Guin, which is so much easier to find in bookstores. Hope you enjoy it!
I was impressed by the beautiful images of the good cityscape ☺️ I'm looking forward to the video again!
lol I love that random smash or pass romance edition.. Did you pick up that Terry Pratchett? I'm just starting the discworld series.. on book 3 now and really enjoying. as a new booktuber, I'm finding your content very inspirational. cheers
Terry Pratchett was a master and his books are just wonderful and funny and so thoughtful at the same time. Highly recommended. 🥰📚
I've just started Terry Pratchett too! 👋 I'm absolutely loving the discworld series too, about to start book 5!
going on me-dates is one of my favourite passtimes! like taking myself out to the cinema or for lunch, a couple of weeks ago i went to den haag by myself to visit the kunstmuseum and bookstores there and just look at the architecture. today i wanted to go to amsterdam by myself but didnt feel well enough, so i'll probably go later this week and this gives me some good inspiration to know what to do there!

i'm SO jealous & HAPPY for you!!

i extra LOVE you now!
I just couldn't stop laughing when you were playing smash or pass with the romance books😂😂 absolutely agree with everything you said
This looked so lovely!!!. Last week I spent some time in a cafe reading alone before class and I hope to repeat it this week too 💖
One Thing by 1D, I'm dead. 😂 Amsterdam looks so beautiful!
The vibes of this video are immaculate. Thanks for taking us with on your self date day 😂❤️
You are amazing and I always look forward to watching your videos, and I fell in love with Holland thanks to you, and I really want to visit it
aah, this looked lovely. I remember when I went to amsterdam a couple of years ago and I'm itching to go back. love your videos! they're a source of comfort in my daily life
Hi Leo! I can't begin to tell you how much joy you bring to my days. I love especially when you "chill" 💕💓
I love those moment i spend on my own. Specially when it’s spent at the book store.
Man, I wish I'd taken more advantage of my semester in Europe when I was in college! Thanks for sharing, Leonie! Ghost Wall looks awesome!
"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" is such a vivid story. It reminds me of "The Lottery", which I think has kind of the same anti-conformist message.
these two are my favorite short stories
Love your flowery shirt! Loved the sights of Amsterdam.
From another comment, feeling that sense of freedom when doing things alone feels so good. And enjoying the things you adore completely and fully. Hoping To visit Amsterdam in the future, ahh!!

I love that you sat in the silent part of the train staring out the window 😅❤️ CUTEST VLOG
You've got the best B roll footage, very creative - love your vlogs.
I am actually planning a solo day trip to Amsterdam too and this video popped up on my feed, a sign! Thank you for the extra motivation, it would be my first solo trip but the city has been on my bucket list for so long 🌸
On our first date (in amsterdam) my boyfriend took me to waterstones so it has some very nice memories

That would be a dream come true to come to Sweden! I'm from Arizona, U.S.A. so unfortunately no train rides will get me there!!😃 It's definitely on my Bucket List, though!🤗
I happen to love the Sci-Fi Masterworks book covers! They're so colourful and fun.
It's such a joy to watch and listen to you💕 And play your videos while I'm journaling and eeading 🙂🌷💜

I loved this! I’m going to The Netherlands for a week in just over a week and super excited! I’m going solo which I’m also excited about! ❤️

It’s really nice being alone. Great video 🤍
Got introduced with the channel after reading a review about popular book vlogs in a local magazine. This is the first video am watching from this channel. Just awesome. Best wishes for you from Bangladesh
Such an artful video. Really hits and makes me want to travel outside FNQ but that takes way longer than half an hour 😩
ahh this video could not have come at a better time, I just booked a trip to Amsterdam yesterday(I'm traveling from Sweden in 2 weeks) so this definitely gave me some inspiration on what to do!

Leonie, what are your favorite bookstores in Amsterdam? Im visiting the city on June, really curious about your opinion!
I would love to live in the Netherlands. It seems so nice.
Amsterdam is so beautiful it makes me cry haha
Beautiful and fun vlog ❤️🎁📚
Wow I listened to One Thing today

Loved this video❤❤❤
