I know what you mean, I'd considered pursuing a PhD after doing my second Masters in science, but after an extensive hands on research project between two academic institutions I realised that scaling the academic ladder was not for me. It's not only really competitive, it often feels like each person you work with is an island (especially the further up you go) because people start to get more and more specialised. Hating the project itself likely didn't help, and neither did my supervisor being miserable for a lot of it because some other dude got a paper in on the thing he was working on before he got the chance. I now work as a programmer/software developer and I love it because I feel supported by my colleagues and there's the sense of achievement that every new project brings new challenges but then new knowledge that I can talk about if I apply elsewhere.
People not studying and passing exams... I'm a world champion at that. I simply get the right subjects, every single time. My greatest achievements were having to read 14 books, only read 1, the questions were obviously about that 1 book or passing exams, multiple choice questions where I didn't even understand the questions or the answers. One time someone wanted to test this ability and just gave me a test from a subject I never, ever learned, right there on the spot. Passed! Barely, but passed.

10:52 Studies show that people, especially young people, in countries where it's not illegalized tend to smoke less weed. It's one more argument against prohibition. Actually, in the Netherlands, a smaller percentage of teenagers ever tried weed when compared to Germany, for example. Nevertheless, it's still technically illegal in NL and just not punishable on a personal use level. Also, there's the "backdoor problem" and we do indeed still need a real legalization.
I really like cashew cheese on bread! It's pretty expensive usually, but it's the only really special thing I buy, so I allow myself that :p I've heard We Are the Weather is really good at describing the importance of (partial) veganism in a nonjudgmental way, though I haven't read it yet
How do you balance a relationship, Booktube and constantly reading without your partner feeling unwanted because you spent so much time reading? The reason I’m asking is because I don’t read as much as I would want to just because my relationship is a ldr and it requires a lot of reassurance and texting and attention and I feel like I can’t fully get into a book without constantly being on my phone so I just want to know your thoughts about that
In any relationship one has to respect your hobbies, its one thing to want to take twenty minutes to read a book, your entitled to that, always, but to take twenty minutes to read a book and your partner is complaining your not paying attention to them. NO!! In any relationship theirs got to be a balancing act, spending time with each other vs doing what you personally love. You need that downtime away from each other otherwise your gong to drive yourself crazy, that's not a desire its a need and you have to demand that even if your not going to read. My parents for example, my mother loves to read my dad not at all, but if everything's in order in the house, like chores accomplished nothing going on and she's got a half hour to read he will not disturb her unless its an emergency or he absolutely needs to ask something of importance, NOT stupid crap, or needs her help. And when he's tinkering in the garage my mother does the same thing, she respects that that is his time. if someone needs constant reassuring, texting like every five minutes, and needs that constant constant attention that you cannot read that's not healthy for either of you. If this reassurance and attention is constant "all" day everyday its clear he wants you to divert attention from what you love to adore him. Simply put if he's so insecure and clingy that you cannot do what you love to a healthy degree you need to tell him simply that while you love him you need him to give you space and room and that just because he doesn't hear from you for half a day it does not mean crap, your not going anywhere, and he needs to stop demanding your attention. Its unhealthy, a little cringe, and very childish behavior, think high school. If he cannot respect your wishes then hon, I'd be rethinking the relationship. I'm a book lover myself, I have a huge library and often its the thing of many running jokes about how much I love them and where i put them and how much I read but jokes aside, if someone cannot respect your love of books and the time you want to spend with them no matter how long it is then they in turn are not respecting you. PS: Turn the phone off when you want to read, should help, everyone else can wait till your done and you contact them.
The Australian accent thing is interesting! I think it's because the South African accent can sound Australian, and their accent comes from the Dutch colonisers.
Late to the video, but also new to your channel. This was fun for me to watch as someone who has only recently started watching your videos. I love your personality and sense of humor!
Are you kidding me, I was just thinking of showing one of your videos to my hairdresser as an example of the natural redish brown hair colour I want 😂😂
I agree that Arrival is not a sad movie in general, I was perfectly fine until the last 10 minutes unexpectedly left me on the verge of tears. About crying after watching movies, the last movie that made me teared up was Christopher Robin. Funnily, I already watched it the year when it was released (2018, I think), and three months ago I watched it again for the old time's sake. I ended up a mess. All the life lessons hit pretty hard.
Coffee only tastes bad until your brain associates its flavor with the ability to not have a sleepy migraine. Then you'll start to like it, through the awesome power of self deception. I also totally relate to your crying at moments in stories that are not sad. It is the moments where people sacrifice some part of their self for others that get me, or when they show how much they care. The happy moments are far more tear jerking than the sad ones. I wonder if this is due to some personality trait.
Heyyy the stereotype about California is that we're all weed smoking sufers/skaters so join the club! I had no idea that was a stereotype of the Netherlands
Wait, I'm 1.65 and really believed you were way taller than me😂😂 My hair was the same before I coloured it. It looked really dark brown, almost black, but in sunlight it had an orange tint. Is getting a license in the Netherlands even necessary? Cause ya'll have such a great public transport system.

fortunately for your cheese habit, locally sourced is the most environmentally friendly way to eat, much much much more than eating vegetarian or vegan if that means long shipped in products
Since you're studying biomedical science and you're in the Netherlands. Have you considered applying/working in Philips (royal philips the company) once you're done with school? I keep hearing it's very prestigious there and it seems like it would make sense with your field of study!

I don’t think there’s something wrong with eating the cheese. Like, girl, if that’s something you like, enjoy it! You’ve been doing your part by being environmentally friendly and conscious!

It's pretty expensive usually, but it's the only really special thing I buy, so I allow myself that :p I've heard We Are the Weather is really good at describing the importance of (partial) veganism in a nonjudgmental way, though I haven't read it yet
i've never tried cashew cheese but would love to try someday!
Are you kidding me, I was just thinking of showing one of your videos to my hairdresser as an example of the natural redish brown hair colour I want 😂😂
i watched this video and was amazed at how alike i am to you!! your videos are amazing!!
I'm always looking forward for your videos !!!
thank youu
Before you said your star sign I tried to guess, and I had two ideas: Cancer or Virgo, and I was right! This makes me so happy for some reason😂♍️
my god i just related so much with you in this video, i swear that most of our traits and tastes are similar
“Shy and awkward person”
It me too, Leonie, it me.
I love you, seriously. I am obsessed with your videos. You're a goddess 💕
i love you . honestly. fav youtuber
I can relate!! I’m not native English either and I always slip in to British without noticing😅 (Really bad British too!!!) So I feel you on the Australian accent😂 Love you and your channel Leonie!!🥰❤️
I definitely thought you were closer to 5'10/5'11, not because of being Dutch but for some reason it just made sense to me picturing you (maybe as a tall girl myself)! I am so surprised you are only 5'5.
I also slip into weird accents, usually when I watch a lot of media from a certain area
I knew from your videos that I share a lot of your opinions, but damn; I was not prepared to agree on so much. Also, completely love that accent.
Getting off cheese is hard and getting into vegan cooking is difficult at first! It gets easier though. Beans and cashews helped me a lot
I NEED to know where you got those earrings!
Always love these videos! Also, I am Norwegian and I get the same comment about having an Australian accent!
21:46 is so painfully accurate
I'm an INFP as well - for some reason most people I see talking about this on the internet are INFJs 😅 So I'm glad to have found someone who's cast in the same mold :D
Alsooo I guessed correctly that you are a Virgo 😂
Looooved this! Tim Burton yessss 😍😍
Damn I was sure you liked pâtisseries 😂 not even a French éclair? 🥺 🥺 🥺 Your aesthetic gives me the 'rent an Airb&b in a small French town and go every morning to a boulangerie to get bread and a treat' (sorry that was quite specific)
i definitely like patisseries but my preference goes out to savory snacks!
@@TheBookLeo definitely a lot of that in France 🇫🇷 I love your videos 🥰 you are doing an amazing job 😘
fortunately for your cheese habit, locally sourced is the most environmentally friendly way to eat, much much much more than eating vegetarian or vegan if that means long shipped in products
Since you're studying biomedical science and you're in the Netherlands. Have you considered applying/working in Philips (royal philips the company) once you're done with school? I keep hearing it's very prestigious there and it seems like it would make sense with your field of study!
as far as i know philips does more electrical engineering stuff so it's not really something that's on the path of studying biomedical science!
@@TheBookLeo I work on the Latin America branch, and most of the process engineer, factory, research and system and medical devices configuration engineers here are primarily sourced from Biomedical Engineering students (which I know it's not the same) but, at the core it's a health company. So I was just wondering if it had ever crossed your mind! 🙂
@@kimmilight oh thank you for letting me know ☺️
I'm the same height as you, short dutch people squad 😊
I don’t think there’s something wrong with eating the cheese. Like, girl, if that’s something you like, enjoy it! You’ve been doing your part by being environmentally friendly and conscious!
Omg I loved the Momo and Appa cat names.
I've been wanting to know you MBTI, I never expected I will know it here! Glad I watched this video of yours! Btw, Im an INFP too! 😃
Check out The Band Camino if you’re a fan of indie pop/rock. They’re so good!
I´ve been waiting so long for this video
Oh god....I feel like I am listening about myself ❤️❤️ our personalities match sooo much 😅😅😅
I'm happy that I knew a lot of things. I've watched (I think) every video you've made since you came back, so it would be hard not to know some things.
omg where’s your rings from?? i’m in LOVE with them !!
I'm also a dance party person with very specific circumstances
Ok, we are very very similar!!! 95% of what you said is me. Crazy! 🥰🇨🇦
This was a great video!!!
I’m a Virgo too!
