one way you can keep memories attached to the book and not keep the book is using a reading journal, and not only take notes about the book itself, but also of the reading process! great video, love your content!

I also struggle with the want to have a wall of bookshelves filled with books but I realized I had a lot that I knew I would never pick up again so it felt pointless to keep them. But I still kinda want a personal library. It's a constant struggle
Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.
I also got the Harry Potter book set as a present. I never read books when I was younger but I knew people that read HP books at that time. Reading them as an adult I truly loved it and understood a lot of the things the movies did not cover. So to me, the nostalgia came from the movies and after reading the books, I fell in love with the wizarding world even more. English is not my first language so please excuse any mistakes.
Leonie, this was the video I didn't know I was waiting for! Thanks. You're a hero of mine--not just being able to read so much for enjoyment while excelling at academic pursuits, but being open and honest with us. I hope you are well and your summer is winding down well! Just remember Lear's plea: "Deny not nature more than nature's needs/Man's life as cheap as beasts!" Have you looked into Matt Larkin's "Cycle of Eschaton" series? There's multiple. "Gods of the Ragnarok Era" tells a grittier, human-based retelling of the apocalypse myths of the Norse, then "Tapestry of Fate" is a prequel series based on Greek mythology, and "Queens of Mana" a sequel series based on Polynesian mythology. I think you'd like it.
I have so much nostalgia for the Harry Potter books, but I honestly don’t think I’d be able to read them for the first time as an adult and knowing everything I do about JKR now. So I completely see where you’re coming from.
I did a reread of them recently (as an adult) & if you want to hold on to that nostalgia, I don’t recommend re-reading bc I noticed *a lot* of things I didn’t as a kid
I loved Harry Potter as a child and I still love the books. But I´d never buy new copies of them now. I think getting them from a used bookstore is a good idea if someone wants to read them without supporting the author.
One way to "detach" from storing the physical item but still recall the memory is to take a picture (much smaller and can be stored digitally). You could start a Word document on your computer including the pictures there along with a paragraph about the memory.
If you liked Naomi Novik’s books and haven’t tried the Winternight trilogy (The Bear and the Nightingale) i would highly recommend them!! They’re so so good!

Marie Kondo says to take a photo of something you hold dear so you can have the memory after letting the object go. For me, I ask if the book is a favorite and keep those treasures. If I disliked a book, I let it go, preferably in a Little Free Library or Half Price Books. If I haven't finished the series, I will keep the ones I have read. I like to re-read or skim when a new book in a series comes out. I let gift books go to good new homes. I destash nonfiction that is too dated. The most important question for me is whether I think I will re-read a book. I am a habitual re-reader, and I mood read when I want to be in a certain frame of mind. I have a lot of comfort reads. When I have a favorite author I will buy all their books, and only if I really dislike a book will I destash. I keep my TBRs the longest and I have a lot of unread books because of that. One of my favourite books is Uprooted and I’ve been in search of atmospheric fairy tale-esque/folklore centred stories since. I’d recommend Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier if you haven’t read that one - it is a slower paced novel but it builds an incredible atmosphere and explores a nature setting in real depth - it’s almost like a character in the story 🍃
I find it almost impossible to get rid of books, the bookcases became full about a decade ago. For an atmospheric dark fairytale, Gilded by Marissa Meyer it’s soooo good, somehow both having a cozy fall vibe and a creepy fairytale.
