the thing about Barney is that everyone knows that absolutely everything he says is absurd, that's what makes him so funny, and also, watching from the beginning and knowing his history with suits makes this episode a lot better
agree agree agree
Yessss
Agree
Agree .. HIMYM really MUST be watched in order ... jumping in the middle will make so little sense.
@@erikaclancy1187 also skip the last episode
I think it would’ve been better for you to find a compilation of all the musical moments cause they all are sooo fun!
definitely a compilation with robin sparkle songs included would have been much better for her to enjoy i think
That would be more fun
I watched a compilation once and they're all good, but Cat Funeral always sticks out to me as the silliest.
That's what I did for my mom lol she hates the show but loves the musical moments lol
Yeah the one with Ted and Barney... So fun
Barney is actually a very insecure person. There’s backstory revealed as to why this is, but I’ve alway felt like suits for him were almost like his version of armor. As long as he wore them, he would be okay. His over-the-top persona (well played by NPH) was a way for him to hide his insecurities, but they do address them throughout the show, and you get to see a more genuine side of him as well. So yes, while his character at first glance can seem very…concerning and somewhat disgusting, he’s also a very well-developed character over the course of the show. Just something to keep in mind if you ever decide to watch the full series.
There's also the fact that older-Ted (the narrator) VERY likely exaggerates Barney's personality and actions. Also the fact that usually the characters call Barney out on his misogyny -- it happened to be an episode where they didn't.
@@sarahlelys9268 : Very good points!
@@sarahlelys9268 but there's quite a lot of misogyny and other problematic stuff that doesn't get called out so Hannah and all the people who are talking about this do have a point
@@sarahlelys9268 I watched so much of this show recently, and misogyny really isn’t called out, the others just make fun of Barney’s failed attempts to get women. Not to mention they just make up rules about women.
Absolutely!
Agreed. I prefer the Episodes about Robins past, where it turns out she was a Canadian teen pop star. “Lets go to the Mall”, “Sandcastles in the Sand” and “P.S. I love you”
There’s also the beaver song
Yessssssss
She should react to robins songs
Classic
for real. she should maybe get some background on what the characters are like and then react to the other music
there are so many himym music moments that you should check out!! (as a canadian i suggest let’s go to the mall LOL) & i totally get hating barney on your first watch but his character gets a deeper backstory throughout the show and becomes one of the most likeable!
(a lot of times his character’s absurdity and gross actions are denounced by the other characters)
but there are definitely some outdated moments because it was filmed 15 years ago at this point
anyway just a himym fan here!! hope you check out some other episodes! :)
Hey Amanda! Love yr journalling vids
They explore the birth of grunge music. It's history.
100% agree with everything you said
Thank you !
Let’s go to the mall! Today today today todayyyyy 🤩
I totally understand your dislike for Barney, especially when its just one episode. Barney is actually one of the best, if not the best character in HIMYM. So it was really interesting to hear from a new perspective.
And when it comes to the singing. There is actually a bunch of singing and musical moments through the whole show. Like ALOT.
HIMYM is one of my favourite shows so to see a reaction of any kind makes me happy. And I totally forgot how much I like this song haha.
Yeah, I mean it’s no secret he is realistically really horrible, but I never considered his actual impact and impression from just watching a random episode because it all seems kinda purposeful and calculated when you watch it in the right order, or maybe I’m just ignorant, I haven’t seen the whole thing in a while tbf
This is all exactly what I would have said as well! I loveeee HIMYM so watching Hannah not enjoy it was so sad to me.😅
It's not even close, Barney makes the show. Without him no one would watch this show.
I liked him from Season 1
This is no "if not", Barney IS the best character in the show. He single handedly carried the entire series.
I'm honestly really upset by this review because I wanted to see a more in depth reaction to NPH's singing voice, and instead I got Hannah shitting all over one of my favorite TV shows...lol. I understand that you can't know everything about his character arc from one episode, but damn
Yeah such a shitty reaction from Hannah the "vocal coach".
Kinda true😅 I mean she's a vocal coach, she should react to the vocals and singing voices
Hell yeah!
Lmao she does this a lot, calls herself a vocal coach and posts reactions without any feedback on the vocals
This is literally all she does, she makes more comments about hair, make up, and the fact that she is bored than actual vocals. She watched the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode (widely regarded as the gold standard for TV show musical episodes) and called it dumb for having witches, a demon (who she insisted on calling Satan though he was just a demon), and complained that she didn't understand despite skipping the recap and knowing that without watching the previous seasons of the show that there would be a lot that she doesn't understand. The 'Vocal Coach' thing feels like clickbait at this point, and to cover the fact that all she does is sit in front of a camera and complain about everything without trying to understand the context of what she is watching.
This show honestly gets better, and I know he’s the worst, but Barney is SUPPOSED to be like, the worst human ever. You’re MEANT to hate him. He gets a bit better in the last few seasons
Edit: I legit came back after a day and had nearly 400 likes holy moly
Neil is amazing.
Youre meant to hate that you love him cause even through being literally a scumbag “but your satan!” hes arguably the most human and has the most heart
Okay but she’s gotta react to scrubs!!!!!!!!
@@chandlernelson7055 😂Exactly
This is the 100th episode Barney it is what it is.. he has growth.. but thank goodness himym was not created in a time when everything has to be so politically correct..
hannah: "baby i think you're bi" oh she's definitely bi they just never adress it
More like played off as a joke which is more annoying in my opinion but yes
Given that Alison Hannigan is well known for her role as Willow in Buffy, one of the early out of the closest gay characters in tv, I’m pretty sure that was the joke from the beginning. Alison might’ve even been the one to suggest it.
90% of women is bi they just mostly pref men
I feel like if you had watched the whole show it would've been way more legendary. And honestly, Neil Patrick Harris has an AMAZING vocal range, I can assure you that. One of his best performances was in glee. He performed "dream on", I'm telling you it was awsome.
"leg-en-dary legendary!" love the barney reference!
@@ameliaa-c2244 glad someone noticed
I love you for the „legendary“
@@milly9833 thank you for noticing
Omg omg omg yesssss dream on is AWESOME
This is definitely one that benefits from watching the entire show. Firstly, it's the 100th episode, hence the revelations about the Mother and the big, random musical number. Secondly, suits make up a good 75% of Barney's personality, so the premise of the song, despite being ridiculous, makes perfect sense for his character. Thirdly, even though Barney's deplorable, that's kind of the point of his character. There are reasons why he is the way he is and he's actually a good person underneath it all. He actually has some amazing character development over the course of the show.
On another note, If you're game for more HIMYM, I'd love to see you react to a compilation of the three "Robin Sparkles" songs, especially Let's Go to the Mall.
Marshal singing "You just got slapped" is the best musical moment of the show. I also had a hard time stomaching Barney but i also think that since Ted is an unreliable narrator, that he isnt actually that bad, its just that ted thinks he's super gross and whats people to like him better so he makes him look really bad in comparison. but thats just me xD
i hate that theory lol everyone uses to justify liking barney. He is just disgusting
@@moiff_ I didn't use it as an excuse to like Barney, I don't like his character, I'm just saying I think it's a cool theory 🤷 his character arc is interesting though
@@AliceTheChaosWitch yeah I know. I am sorry. I was actually referring to the people who use that theory with that purpose. I've seen it everywhere so I am just angry at this point lol.

Hannah, I love you but you shouldnt have watched a HIMYM episode without context. You need to watch every episode leading up to this one to understand. I love how I met your mother...it absolutely brilliant. Though a lot of the jokes in it are disgusting, it's mostly Barney telling them. The rest of the group even question why they're friends with him. You should watch a compilation of everytime they sang.
I gotta be honest though...dont really like that you're so critical of shows that you dont understand the context of and havent watched. Every How I met your mother episode is taken out of context...its just funny that way. Idk you make every character look so embarrassing and it kinda hurts me because HIMYM is my comfort show :/
I really didnt expect you to completely shit on himym.
i feel the same way bc this is totally one of my comfort shows and i wasn’t expecting to feel so judged for being a fan. i can’t imagine anyone watched the show because they were a fan of barney. we watched because neil patrick harris is awesome. because neil patrick harris was perfect at portraying a misogynistic asshole with daddy issues who loves suits. we loved him for now bizarre his character was. for how insane he was. i can’t think of many people who could play this character the way nph did. without him the show would’ve been entirely too bland and boring. his crazy antics and debauchery are what made it such a memorable show.
It can still be your comfort show and you can still realize it’s problematic. I’ve seen the entire show and stand by this. You don’t have to stop liking it, but it really doesn’t need defending.
fr she was judging so hard
@@spemka …that’s the point. Barney is a dick, the show never defends his behavior. He is actively shown to be in the wrong
Exactly,
Context. Context is key. I'll never understand that trend of watching things without it. Barney is a fantastic character, you're meant to dislike him, but it gives his positive character arch that much more weight and value. I was disappointed with the ending of the series, but the character progress throughout the seasons before that was great (except maybe Ted's, the main character telling the story of how he met his children's mother).
Other than that, happy to get another video from you Hannah, I really hope you react to some other musical clips from HIMYM 😄
Exactly. Her video would've been alot more enjoyable if she would've gotten out of her feelings. It's a darn character and there is a thing called development. The irony is if she actually watched the whole thing she'd realize Barney grows and turns out to be the least misogynistic character. Ted on the other hand....😂
@@Mistyfaery I'm sure he gets tons of character development and he gets better, but his jokes this episode were gross. like no amount of context makes them okay. great if the _stops_ being gross but still
Then don't watch it. I couldn't get into Game of Thrones because all of the excessive nude scenes. So I didn't watch it. I didn't shame others for appreciating the characters. Just wasn't my cup of tea. 🤷♀️ How I met your mother clearly rubs you the wrong way So why watch anything about it?
@@Mistyfaery i didn't know, just like she didn't know, that it would rub me the rong way - otherwise we both probably would have avoided it. i will in the future, but hindsight is 20/20. and once she is watching it's normal that she'll give her opinion based on what she is seeing, not some hypothetical character development she can't possibly know about. she didn't bash anyone for enjoying the show, she just commented something that objectively making her uncomfortable
@@celestefieramonti it must be so hard to be you.
There’s actually more musics moments in the show :D
you’d probably love the mother’s version of La Vie En Rose or literally anything Robin sings from her pop star days
Barney is a very complex character actually and had one of the best character developments - if we ignore the series finale tbh. And let’s not forget that Barney is literally a parody of that type of man. But I understand how some jokes didn’t age well
TBF. Barney has a awesome character arc over the whole series and his "getting laid"-methods are sooo over the top that it's basically a parody of that kind of men - I'd really like to know what you think about every episode of HIMYM! ^^
It’s very well known in the show that Barney is an actual monster but also a fan favourite because he’s arguably the most iconic sitcom character of all time since his whole character is basically an over exaggerated parody - and Neil Patrick Harris is amazing in the role, I don’t think anybody could have done it as well as him. He also has significant character development and growth throughout the series
This wasn't supposed to be a musical episode, it was just something fun for their 100th episode.
Jason Segel and Neil Patrick Harris did sing the Confrontation from Les Mis together in an interview if you want full on musical theatre.
But if you want a really pretty musical moment from the HIMYM it should be Tracy singing La Vie En Rose.
For Lily and Marshall it would be the Don't Go Breaking My Heart from the karaoke episode.
Thank you for suffering through this for the Hannah Hive xxx
Her reaction prooves that context is everything hahahah
HIMYM is one of my comfort shows and I’ve watched all the way through so many times. You kinda have to know the characters to understand this episode. Barney is gross but you’ve got to know him to appreciate him. I wouldn’t have called it a ‘musical episode’. The show has many musical moments (my favourite is the ‘you just got slapped’ song from the thanksgiving episode). But I guess some people aren’t suited to sit-coms and that’s ok!
Literally same. Kinda hurt to sit through the slander but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Lol
Yeah, if the show would've dropped in today's day and age then people would've "cancelled" it or hate-watched so that it continues for several seasons more. The whole point of Barney's character is just being misogynistic and disgusting. I mean he had a huge list of people he had sex with and a special episode for number whatever on his list. Loved the show cuz it's iconic. I understand why some might not find it funny but the other characters often call him out too. It's also more interesting if you get into why he is who he is. Trauma, commitment issues, compulsive lying, low self-esteem behind a confident facade etc. etc.
Barney wasn't the only problem. He was just *the most* sexist. Basically anything Ted post Victoria was pretty sexist and everything with Robin's love life and career was largely that way. Not to mention a lot of Robin's stuff was pretty racist, but I guess if it's against Canadians that makes it okay.
@@quinnsinclair7028 I think the right word is xenophobic? Canadians aren't a race, they're a nationality. I get your point though.
Yeah they even have the slap bet of which its whole purpose is to just torture and punish Barney (deservedly so)
Yeah, he's supposed to be like that and yeah he gets called out on it but not enough and there's much more problematic to this show (eg. slut shaming, homophobic and transphobic jokes and much more that wouldn't be accepted in today's society and rightfully so)
@@quinnsinclair7028 yep, not to mention the homophobic and transphobic jokes as well as the slut shaming that keeps happening
Barney is supposed to be skeevy in this. He is a "bro". He has a book of rules called the "Bro Code". It started in 2005 and went to 2014 and I must say much of it does not stand up well in the 2020s, especially after Epstein, Me Too, and of course the most recent ex-president of the US.
What I find most amazing is that I couldn't find an actor that seems more diametrically opposed to their role in real life than NPH and Barney.
barney’s character is supposed to be someone you hate. he’s an asshole and that’s the whole point. his friends give him crap for it almost every single episode. this was a milestone episode. i think the 100th so they made it special by adding the musical element. there’s lots of musical elements tied into the show but this is one of the biggest they ever did.
watching from the begining and knowing the history of the relationship with barney and suits makes the episode way more better, i am sad that you didn’t like it but i understand why🥺
This episode was pretty meh. You should react to Robin's fictional musical career. She was a Canadian teen pop star a la Alanis Morissette. "Let's Go To the Mall", "Sandcastles in the Sand" and "PS I Love You ".
And then for fun, "You Just Got Slapped..."
Honestly I kinda wanted Hannah's opinion on the cast's voices -- especially Marshall because I feel like he's really talented at singing, but I know nothing of singing. I'm pretty sure Robin isn't actually a very good singer, but Marshall sounds like one.
@@sarahlelys9268 marshall (jason segel) and ted (josh radnor) both have lovely voices, and i do believe josh is actually a musician now - marshall has a lot of musical moments (like you just got slapped, or little singing gags in certain episodes) but ted and barney do the most singing i think (superdate, for the longest time, etc.) and it would be nice to see what hannah thinks of them.
@@sarahlelys9268 she didn't comment on anything about the number.. 😆 what a misleading title I just saw this video, to someone bash one of my fav shows haha
@@angelacarrerarivera To be fair to Hannah, her audience made her watch an entire episode when she only had to watch three minutes of it, and I love HIMYM but it IS pretty misogynistic and if you don't know the entire story of the previous 100 episodes you'd just be shocked. Those things aren't everyone's cup of tea and Hannah was obviously very distressed by what she saw, I'm willing to give her a pass on that one, it's fine.
You can't judge a show for having a musical number about suits when suits are literally a huge part of the character singing it. You can't just call it "weird" because they didn't do it like how you thought they would. I know you've never seen the show, but maybe for the future have someone who's seen it give you the basics before you watch an episode. As someone who loves the show, it's hard seeing you tear it apart when you know nothing about it.
Also how are you going to say "I know they filmed in front of a live studio audience" but still be like "Why are they standing like that?" when all sitcoms especially from this time period, like Friends and that 70s show are filmed like that with the characters in that circle thingy.

This was not at all what I was expecting. I was expecting a commentary on the singing and vocals, not a nit-picking criticism of one of the best sitcoms ever. This video was a bit of a disappointment ngl 💀
This is definitely down to context, not having any context to the characters would give you this impression. Barney Stinson being a misogynist is a big part of his character and eventually his redemption.
Not a fan of musicals, yet, this is one of my favourite episodes.
I have seen the entire series and literally forgot this musical moment even happened. Can we watch NPH’s Tony Awards opening numbers instead?
How I Met Your Mother is a classic. If you can’t enjoy Barney, what in this world can you enjoy??
I can't believe how paper thin are people nowadays. Everything hurts them, everything offends them. Do we forgot what a joke is?
HIMYM is a show you have to watch from the beginning because a lot of the jokes and story comes from the audience trusting the characters and knowing that they are all slowly improving over time so we go on a journey with each of them.
And HIMYM is good cause it has a progressive storyline, so you need to watch it progressively. That way you get the jokes better
this episode makes so much more sense when you understand their history and what every character is going through. and we all know barney sucks, but it's barney and we love him. (and you also missed a lot of references so there's that)
My favorite moment was when they sang "for the longest time"
I would love for you to react to anything from "tick, tick... boom." It's Andrew Garfield's first foray into singing (and the first time he'd sung in front of people!) but it's truly extraordinary and I'd love to know what you think about it. You could react to the clip of 30/90, you could react to No More, or literally any of the songs you can find clips for. The clip for 30/90 is considerably shortened because... movies do that, I guess, but it's still a load of fun!
YES
Barney may be....well, barney, but this show and these characters seriously mean a lot to me. It combined comedy, friendship, and genuine heartfelt moments and I love all of the characters and cast 💕
In How I Met Your Mother Cobie Smulders plays a character who was a teenage popstar in Canada and in the show there were a couple of original songs of her. I Think you could react to some of those
Yes please
Ted's comment about Robin in the bar was not misogyny
Robin is just full of herself and thinks she is the most attractive woman in every room she's in, it's an established character trait of hers
Loads of people have said it, but that's totally the normal reaction to Barney. He's a caricature of masculine insecurity. (He also gets like, the best character development I've ever seen in a sitcom. Until the epilogue.)
I actually love that you hated this so much🤣🤣 The show really lucked out by getting Neil to play Barney. His character never would have been so popular if he hadn't been so damn charming🤣 I disagree with everyone in the comments though, he gets a sad backstory yes! And he gets a lot of character development but throughout every season of the show he remains an entitled preditor and womaniser. That never changes. I would however love for you to react to Ted and Barney singing 'For the longest time' It's so lovely.
So are we ignoring when he fell in love with nora and robin and had genuine true relationships (yes he cheated on nora but that was his first real relationship since his like late teens early 20s) and then yea the finale wasnt great but his daughter was the best thing to come from it and he completely turned his life around yes hes terrible for the majority of the show but it does change he does have a lot of heart i dont think its necessarily fair to say he never changes
@@chandlernelson7055 I'm just going to highlight one thing you said in your response.
"Yes, he cheated on Nora"
This is like the Joey from Friends situation. Just because he would never hurt his friends, doesn't mean he wasn't a womaniser. Don't get me wrong they're both still great characters. They're also both shit characters
@@Orah90 I totally agree with you! I am tired of the whole HIMYM fandom defending Barney. He was a good friend but also misogynistic AND a predator AS HELL.
I've decided that New Girl will forever be my favourite and the best sitcom I'll ever watch
Fun fact, himym wasn’t filmed in front of an audience. It shown to an audience after and to get their reaction
You can't watch one episode of how i met your mother without all context behind it. for exemple the joke about lily being bissexual is somethig that happens all the time in the show. you have to watch everything to understand one episode.
Funny thing is, Barney is a really well-rounded character. He does scummy things, but he's not a bad person at his core. He's super insecure and acts cocky and horrible to over-compensate. This show really is amazing and you can't watch a lot of episodes out of context or you won't understand the characters as well. They also make fun of how terrible he is a lot. And he has major character development and growth. So, on the surface, all the stuff you hate about him is seemingly true. But when you watch all 9 seasons, he's really way more than meets the eye
Edit: Also, Barney is super into his suits. That's why the musical number is so absurd. It's a big trait of his character. And HIMYM does lean into the goofy stuff like this. There are multiple musical numbers throughout the series and they're all great
It is important to understand that Barney's personality is exaggerated for the comedy and for his character development throughout the show. He goes from this predatory sex pest designed for humor and outrage to a more tolerable guy who has multiple long term relationships, and he even marries robin towards the end of the show. There are multiple musical numbers in the show, not all involving Barney. The Robin sparkles bits and the marshall musical video messages are some highlights. I personally enjoyed the show completely throughout but I do understand the issues you will have had when only watching one very Barney focussed episode when there are many that are not focused on him and are excellent and he also has many enjoyable points throughout.
You should try Community, they have a musical episode that is part glee parody and part Christmas episode. There’s a lot more singing in that one. (And personally I think it’s a better sitcoms that himym, the humor is more clever and there’s no laugh track)
Head's up! Other people have said it, but there's a whole gag about Robin and her secret past as a Canadian pop star, you should make a video reacting to her songs because they're iconic
this video made me realize you shouldn't watch this show out of context 😂
If you watched the whole series from start to end it's so good.
i love seeing people's reactions to barney. You really have to watch the whole show to understand his character, i mean, from this episode he looks like a total douche (which ,lets be real, he is) but if you watch the whole show, you really see him change as a character and find who he really is. I love how the writers have done this :)
Oh my gosh this show has so many good numbers lol. Also thanks for the content Hannah love it! 💜
Heather Morris (Brittany from Glee) is one of the dancers at the very end.
Omg I never noticed her
You should definately react to Neil's other singing stuff I'd love to see your reactions to his Tony openings
How I met your Mother is in my top 3 favourite sitcoms of all time. At least until the final episodes of the final season.
If you want to react to Neil Patrick Harris with something less problematic you should look at Dr Horrible! It's probably my favourite musical and it's all on RUclips too!
This hurt to watch knowing I've seen the whole thing. You really grow to love Barney's character.
I would Barney, like me, would be Hannah’s favorite character. He’s the damaged bad boy with a heart of gold. Also, he gets all the best lines. I like raunchy and dark humor and that’s all Barney.
The bigger thing about Barney was that they kind of broke the 4th wall with his attraction to women, because he had recently come out as gay, so they decided to really put him over the top problematic straight
Idk if you can judge his whole character through one episode but the show itself is really good and Barney is a character you're supposed to actually hate when you see him, Neil is awesome tho just sayin
If this video does well I would love to see you react to Robin sparkles pop career in how I met your mother
Barney is usually peoples favorite characters when you watch with context
if you get to know barney it makes this episode so enjoyable and to be fair you have to understand the characters for this to not seem crazy 😭
this felt like watching a show with my strict parents lol i wish you reacted more to the actual vocals
My condolences if your parents react in a similar way. In my opinion this borders on psychosis.
How can you take these innocous scenes and interpret them in such a ludacris way.
Everythings mysoginist and discriminating these days, what a load of bull.
If you want a good musical that shows off NPH's voice, Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. His character has some NiceGuy Syndrome(TM) going on, but the songs are FANTASTIC. Whole movie is only an hour-ish, so it wouldn't be too hard to cover. Plus! Nathan Fillion. 💕
Wouldn't be a a Joss Whedon production without some NiceGuy(TM) in it.
@@quinnsinclair7028 😅 That is very very true...
So much yes to what everyone is saying about Barney. That's his character - the skeevy guy that you hate. But his character works with the other characters, it wouldn't have been the same without him. It's actually a really funny show! Yes, it's a sitcom and the fake audience might laugh more than you do. But there were parts that had me truly laughing out loud - and I'm not talking just a giggle! Like > 😂
For me most shows are about getting to know the characters and the dynamics between them. I think a lot of the jokes are kind of "you had to be there". Meaning they are funnier if you know the characters personalities and have seen previous shows so that you know more of the history behind the joke.
You should watch from the beginning and give it a chance. Then again - a ton of people love The Big Bang Theory and I so don't. So, maybe what gives me a good belly laugh might not do the same for you. 🙂
me knowing it’s more of a musical moment than a musical episode and wondering how much she’s gonna watch 😳😂
I was never big on this show though I love Neil soooooo much....if you want Neil that's good...watch DR. Horrible's sing along blog. Neil, Nathan Fillion and Felicia day and its AMAZING...so much sarcasm, parody and catchy music. Also as someone else mentioned his performance of 'dream on' in glee was not only one of his best performances to date but also one of Matthew Morrison's (Schuesters) as well.
Two excellent suggestions!
I know this song word for word. I've always loved it 😭😭
I may be six months late but my favorite part of this entire show is when the mother sings la vie en rose. Still one of my favorite and most watched scenes. I literally watch it all the freaking time.
One of my favorite HIMYM moments as well and I still search it out and watch it from time to time too!
I have to say though, don’t take out your anger on sitcoms. How I Met Your Mother is an exception, Brooklyn 99 is one of the greatest shows ever. Modern Family is great. Community is another one
Agreeeee. Sitcoms are great.
Yess parks and rec also
@@kiera_klark8171 I think I gotta give that one another try, I watched a few episodes once and just couldn’t get into it
Himym is better than two of those lol
@@ezql_ No, HIMYM is problematic start to finish, it’s got a lot of funny jokes and some characters grow on you (I’ve seen the whole show) but it’s hella problematic.
Maybe you could check out the musical episode from Scrubs? It's is FANTASTIC and fuuunny! :)
- I believe it's Season 6 episode 6 (called "My Musical")
Second this! Absolutely love Scrubs and their musical episode is my fave!
I think the suggestion to watch the entire episode without context was not the best, what I recommend if you want to give it a second shot is watching Musical Moments in HIMYM, such as robin sparkles videos (there's 3 if I remember correctly) and the ep ending with Ted and Barney singing "For the longest time"
They dont really have a dedicated Musical Episodes, but they have songs here and there throughout the seasons :)
Robin singing: "Let's go to the mall" - "Sandcastles in the sand" - "P.S I love you" - The beaver Song
Barney: "Suits"
Ted: "Super-date"
Tracy: "La Vie En Rose"
And probably a few others I forget :)
That moment when you pick up your coffee to take a sip as Hannah says "Hey, you! I see you drinking your second cup of coffee". I feel called out! Haha!
Your reaction to Marshall's part makes me think you should react to the Dracula Musical from Forgetting Sarah Marshall
There's usually one musical number in one or two episodes per season. If you watch more, just look up the number cause there's never more than one an episode.
Finding a musical compilation is the best because it shows over a course of the 9 seasons all the small musical bits
Barney is a LEGEND hahahahaaha, love this episode
I think the next react episode should be the musical episode of Community, it's perfect because you've seen a bit of Glee, which ties a bit with the episode. Also, the episode was great.
Clearly HIMYM is not for you. It’s satire and you took it so seriously.
There’s no specific musical episode of the show, but there are a bunch of musical numbers in various episodes.
Robin was actually a popstar in Canada! She sang three songs :-) Plus the beaver song.
you really need to watch the hole show to know why they make the jokes that they do and i think you would really love do show cause its so well thought out and to see the growth of all characters
It's honestly one of the most well-written sitcoms I've ever seen, the laugh track being an anomaly of it's time unfortunately, the whole "live performance" act really takes away from the show-- your initial dislike of Barney makes total sense, you're not supposed to like him but he has some of the best character development and funniest moments in the show. Absolutely absurd episode lmfao.
I changed my mind watching the offence roll onto her face at everthing Barney says just gives me joy.
Over time you learn to love Barney, it’s like a fine wine
I’d recommend Encanto because it’s just so great. At first, you think it will be okay, but it’s actually amazing!
What the fu..?? I just watched a whole video of the vocal coach just to hear "I like Neil's voice"??? That's all? No analyses, no vocal tecnique examination?????? just waste of time
knowing barney's background is definitely important in understanding his relationship with suits. Also watching his character development helped ease the sexist jokes, you just know whatever he's going to say is going to be crazy it just his character 🤷♀
That’s the character. He’s supposed to be the world’s worst stereotypical bachelor guy amped up to 1000%. That’s why he should have won Actor of the Century for the role. Especially as a gay man. Imagine you playing the role of someone that gets comedy writing and acting!
As a vocal coach you were supposed to judge them singing. Instead you just watch the episode and judged the entire show.
I binge watched the first 5/6 seasons in like 2/3 weeks a couple years ago and I can barely remember it lmao. Love Barney though! Neil Patrick Harris is so talented!
I also connected Tim Gunn with Baileywick from Sofia the First. Months of caring for a toddler while working at home has paid off.
I love when Hannah watches an entire episode for one musical number.
I watched HIMYM throughout the entire series while it aired. Seeing your reaction watching this more like a one-off and outside the context of the show is fabulous. I was in stitches! Great, great, and hilarious! 😂😂 And you blamed your viewers-even better! If you want redemption, watch Neil Patrick Harris’ opening performance at the 2013 Tonys AND his performance of Hedwig. He’s positively brilliant in both and his voice is outstanding. (I’ll recommend in your google doc along with the link. 😉)
