Lucifer was definitely more intimidating at the beginning but as the show goes on and he goes to therapy he works through some stuff and becomes a little more human. Also the daddy issues are a big topic in the show which is why Lucifer and God’s relationship was kinda rough this episode

Also the show was never intending on making Lucifer this scary personification of pure evil because of the fact that that isn't what lucifer is/was...In fact the show goes out of its way to say/demonstrate that even though lucifer is the devil it doesn't mean that he is evil.

    •  Месяц назад

While I can appreciate where he ends up in the very, very end, he absolutely went not only soft, but he was a massive hypocrite throughout most of the show, arbitrarily enraged by some crimes/"evil" and a number one fan of others.
Its not surprising, the show is copaganda (that started on Fox no less) and the justice system itself is unjust and hypocritical, but its still an issue with the character and writing that fans are in denial about. Mentalist and Elementary both managed morally ambiguous consultants far better than a show featuring the devil. That's kind of funny if you think about it.

Lucifer, according to the show (and the comic that it's based on) was assigned to oversee Hell; rather than be the incarnation of Evil, he has the ability to awaken others' desires, and his job is to PUNISH evil; he's the victim of millennia of bad press.

    @OccamsChainsaw87 3 года назад +82

If you liked Tom Ellis' (Lucifer) singing, he does a bunch of it in the show. I'm sure most of the songs are around RUclips.
Also, the story makes a lot more sense when you're aware that in the previous episode, Lucifer somehow got the idea that he's incapable of actual love. So he's worried about his relationship with Chloe, and blames God for making him incapable of loving her. Also God put Chloe directly in Lucifer's path for him to fall for, so that's why he's so mad at him.
Another thing to point out is that one of the big themes of the show is that Lucifer is NOT evil; he's misunderstood. He has a few moments throughout the show where he gets really upset because everyone thinks he's evil, when all he is is the ruler of Hell. He doesn't make anyone do anything, and yet the world blames all their evils on him. He did try to lead a rebellion against God eons ago, and failed, so was banished from the Silver City and made ruler of Hell. And his mother just sat back and let it happen. So yeah, dude's got some issues.

In this show, celestial beings self-actualize, meaning whatever they believe about themselves becomes reality. Michael, Lucifer's identical twin, gaslit God into believing that he was losing his powers. So, because he believed it to be true, he actually began to lose control of his powers. Michael did this to convince his father to retire so he could become the new God. When they found out the truth, God's powers were fixed, but Lucifer had brought his mother back, she and God fixed their relationship issues, and God decided to retire anyway.

Especially around lucifer and him learning to accept himself for who he is not who he thinks others want him to be. It's a really powerful and impactful journey. I can't recommend it enough.
I definitely think you should give watching it from the start a shot. Lucifer is far me intimidating at the start, and he's intimidating at the end as well, just in a different way. You caught him in the middle of a crisis between who he wants to be, what the world wants him to be, what his father wants while intruding on his already complicated relationship with the detective. This. Lucifer is one of the shows that sounds ridiculous and has no business being as good as it is (especially for the first three seasons).
But to come to the conclusion that it's being too heavy is especially funny considering the subject matter. This is a modern day Paradise Lost where the authors are even going to try to pretend that the heavenly are more interesting than the demonic.
But you are looking at what is effectively the end of the show. They've spent years building up various relationships and characters to get to this point. Which is why Lucifer acts like an overly hurt child in this episode. He is just like any person whose development was arrested by the abandonment of both parents. He's lashing out.
Much like the Buffy musical episode, it is hard to see just how the episode is actually doing a great job (the opening number excepted) of weaving together a LOT of threads that have been in play for a long time if you don't know the backstory.

People expect him to be scary and bad but he's not who people think, even though he still sees himself that way. After centuries of humanity blaming him for every bad thing that's ever happened, he started to blame himself. He's a complicated guy. But also it's fairly simple. He's got daddy issues for sure but his biggest struggle is probably his self hatred. As a die hard Lucifer fan, I'm not even mad about your opinions on it because I'm sure it's quite crazy/hard to follow watching one episode in a later season. It's really weird to me to just jump into a show 5 seasons in and judge the little you've seen. This is an amazing show and you should give it a try. Lucifer in this show was never really evil, but he was quite different in the beginning. Love and therapy changed him basically.

Same statment here. It's a slow burn, but the philosophy of the show fascinating.
Also, no. The show does not take itself seriously. Much like how no one takes Lucifer seriously at the very beginning. He has sinister vibes at the beginning, but hes never truly scary. That's sort of the point of the show.

There was hardly any substance to her technical reactions too, which is the only reason this would have been interesting. It was almost an afterthought, which is too bad because a good technical reaction can be really positively engaging. Instead, she just spent most of the video mocking the show.

As a quick overview of the show
The show follows Lucifer, suit man, who got board in hell and came to earth, became a cop, and fell in love with a human. He solves crime while dealing with his daddy and family issues. In the specific episode, God has come down to Earth, after Lucifer’s twin brother the arch angel Michael tried to kill Lucifer and their other brother Amenadiel. Now God is losing control of his powers and everyone is singing. 9/10 show. Loved it.
    And now the questions
The people on the field, they are witnesses being questioned by cops.
Everyone singing wasn’t supposed to sound amazing. It was supposed to sound like these characters, who aren’t all amazing singers, were singing, not like professional good singers
Jesus is not in the show
Lucifer didn’t go soft, in the show he was never really evil. Instead he was painted as an evil being and suffers with his identity because he is told he is evil and everyone thinks he is but he isn’t
God had a wife who was eventually sent to hell. She broke out and ended up in a human body. After she left the body of Charlotte, Charlotte survived and she and Dan developed a relationship, before Charlotte was killed

It's honestly a good show... like the wing thing... if I remember correctly, in that episode when he was around Chloe he wasn't invincible (the comment he made about being vulnerable) so when he wrapped her with his wings he was feeling it all.
But, he's not meant to be all scary. The show is meant to humanize (though in the end deify) him. He got tired of being all scary and basically just wanted to live a life of hedonism.
Also, you should look up Tom Ellis (Lucifer) singing. He's got an amazing voice.

I watch a number of "Vocal coach reacts" videos, and this definitely wins the award for the most cynical, adolescent and mean spirited. There's a tiny bit of actual vocal critique, but the vast majority of time was spent making teen cringe insults about characters, attributes and plot elements she is not only completely ignorant of, but also not interested in learning about other than to mock them. Is the idea somehow that being a complete asshole will draw people in to watch the fireworks? Or perhaps she's aiming at cynics whose salve for being useless is insulting others? In any case, while she may be aiming to be the next Dorothy Parker, she comes off more like Beavis and Butthead.
