Listen, we’ve done two of the three big Meryl Streep movie musicals, now’s the perfect time for MAMMA MIA!! Also, if you’re looking for a good movie musical that’s great for fashion and very talented ladies, I highly recommend the film adaptation of Nine!
i just asked for mamma mia too!!!
MAMMA MIA, HERE I GO AGAAAIIIN MY MY HOW CAN I RESIST YA?
MAMMA MIA, DOES IT SHOW AGAAAIIIN MY MY JUST HOW MUCH I MISSED YA?
YEEEEEEES I BEEN BROKEN HEARTED
BLUUUUUUUUE SINCE THE DAY WE PARTED
WHY WHY DID I EVER LET YOU GOOOO
MAMMA MIA, NOW I REALLY KNOW, MY MY I SHOULD NOT HAVE LET YOU GOOOO
this!!!
I've asked for Mamma mia ages ago!!
YASSSS
Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep need their flowers for this film because they KILLED it.
Emily blunt as well, this was her first musical role right? Or was it mary poppins?
@@LucasSantos-xf1yf This debuted before MPR.
@@LucasSantos-xf1yf This was a few years before, and GOD yes, her voice was amazing!! 💐💐 for all!! (except James Cordon.)
@@amiyamarshall7148 to be fair i think this is the best thing he's done, but that's saying a lot lol
Yes emily is amazing, i love her voice
Emma blunt as well but if anyone says James corden I'm gonna flip because u feel like he doest try
The most impressive thing about Anna Kendrick as Cinderella is that the composer actually put the song in a HIGHER key, unlike what movie adaptations normally do (lower it). That’s impressive.
And she mixed the ending, usually it’s in head voice
Its even better because when she was cast there were people complaining that she shouldn't play the role because she wouldn't be able to hit the notes in the song. Then the movie comes out and the song is higher. So they proved those people double wrong.
@@opal3789yep. They wanted to showcase her beautiful higher register, that's why they raised the key.
I love that Hannah is like “why doesn’t the baker’s wife have a name? The patriarchy.” When the baker also doesn’t have a name lol
What are you talking about? Isn't his first name The and his last name Baker? ... It is odd though that they usually adress him with his full name.
@@michaelklaus what? No, it's a title because it's a fairy tale style story, they usually don't give characters names if they're not the main character. We also have "the prince", "the step mother/sisters" and "the witch". The beginning narration even does this.
Hell, technically "Cinderella" and "little red riding hood" were also originally titles/descriptors. Rapunzel is quite literally named after a plant. Even "Snow-white" is more of a descriptor that's just how naming conventions work in fairy tales.
It’s called a joke
@@kycone I think you total misidentified the tone here bc op clearly meant it lightheartedly
Even if this was true she's still known as his
To be fair, Hannah, the wolf singing about Red in a manner that makes you think of sexual predators is actually quite appropriate.
The story of "Little Red Riding Hood" was originally intended to teach young women the virtue of not getting into intimate relationships with men just because they are charming. The final line of the Brother's Grimm version even described that the wolf "ate" her (very much an innuendo).
Oh.. 😳
Also the fact that in Reds song she talks about him “showing her things she hadn’t thought to explore” … Always made me think they didn’t just look at the flowers.
yes! even on some stage shows they have full frontal on the wolf costume too to emphasize it
Also, true to the original Broadway wolf's interpretation of the song.
Who else is just learning this today? 🥺😱
Also, 'Your Fault' isn't a comedy song. It's very much written in Sondheim's signature style of fast-paced, back and forth singing, but it's serious. These people are trying to shift the blame instead of accepting that they're ALL at fault, and that's why it leads into the Witch's part, where she eventually disappears after criticizing them all. Just because it's in a fast-paced style doesn't mean it's cartoony.
adding to this that they slowed down the tempo for this song in the movie which takes away from the blame shifting going on
And it symbolizes the descent into chaos. They've held it together through so much and now it's just all crumbling down, because of, you got it, human nature. It's a freaking masterpiece.
Yeah the movie doesn't convey that super well, but the song still seemed serious to me.
yeah, super agree it’s definitely serious, angry and panicked not a ‘fun, little moment’
Yeah it’s MUCH faster on stage. Like muuuuch faster
My issue is they removed some of the best elements from the broadway musical when they made this.
1- The narrators death
2- rapunzel whole arch and her twins
3- The second version of agony where the princess complain they can't be with their new loves because they're married.
As an actor who has played both Cinderella's Prince and Rapunzel's prince/Big Bad Wolf. i fully agree. Those are story elements that add a lot of emotional elements to Act 2.
They also took away so much of the comedy! Which imo is such a pity
Absolutely. I love the reprise of agony so much. Also they cut one of my favorite and most under appreciated songs from the show "No More" the Baker's lament song after his wife dies that is a diet with the narrator (his father). It's a simple but beautiful painful and great acting potential song.
Can we talk about Meryl streeps voice control?! Her soft voice when singing to Rapunzel was so gorgeous and her last midnight is so powerful
Anna Kendrick is honestly mind blowing. Her voice live (like on interviews and stuff) sounds exactly like her studio recordings. Her voice is amazing.
She’s really mean in real life.
@@JMwhocares 🙄🙄🙄
@@JMwhocares mean =/= lack of talent
Quick question: is she a soprano?
@@JMwhocares no just no
In case nobody else has said it, the cutting of toes and the heels of Cinderella’s stepsisters and then the blinding by the birds, is actually part of the French fairy tale.
I actually think the entire cast with one exception was fantastic, and even James Corden was good. Lilla Crawford for me as RRH and is my fave, I think she’s so talented for a child performer. Daniel Huttlestone, too. Anna and Meryl are perfect as always and Chris Pine and Billy Magnussen one-upping each other in ‘Agony’ gives me goosebumps while I’m laughing.
i was about to say, thats in the grimm version too. and cinderella getting her dress and gold slippers for the ball from her mothers grave is from the german original as well (i believe it was her mothers spirit appearing as a dove). disney is very selective and folk tales (esp the really old ones like cinderella) have *many* versions out there.
Thank you for saying this! Was looking for this comment. Same with Rapunzel. The prince gets blinded by thorns and then he like wanders around for a long time as a blind man. She then finds him again and cries of happiness and her tears cure his blindness
@@faerlywell And she's carrying his twins, implying that he and she did the horizontal tango at some point while he was visiting, and her tears are what fixes his eyes. ALSO, Rapunzel was banished to a swamp and that's where she runs into her Prince after months.
@@ashleybuechler860 yes I know all this. I was just writing the basics of what happened. And as I wrote her tears cured his blindness.
these arent necessarily the "true" versions either; iirc these were the brothers grim versions which were ultimately edited by all of two dudes with their own cultural biases. the oldest cinderella we can trace is an grecian slave girl who loses her shoe and marries the egyptian king who finds it. i grew up with a book series of folktales from around the world and looked further into them recently. in vietnamese cinderella (known as tam and cam) the wicked stepmom and stepsister kill tam horribly over three incarnations (telling her to climb a tree then cutting it down so she falls to her death, killing the bird she was reincarnated as and eating it, cutting the tree she was reincarnated as to make a loom and then burning it). she gets her revenge by coming back as a ghost and marrying the king anyway and also boiling cam alive and feeding her remains to her mother who dies of shock, but yeah.
In case no one explained to you what happened with the Witch at the end: She starts throwing beans around to make her point, but the reason she was cursed in the first place was that she lost her mother's magic beans. So after she throws the beans, she sings, "Alright mother when, lost the beans again, punish me the way you did then" so she's being cursed again for losing the beans a second time. I actually had to watch the original show a few times before I fully understood that.
Last year I took my roommates and I to see my best friend's staged production of Into the Woods, and none of my three roommates had seen Into the Woods or knew what the plot was about. Cue the second half of the play, and my roommates are all in utter shock of how INSANE this play is hahaha
Lol I remember feeling that when I first saw the musical on VHR in my English class. That's when I fell in love with that movie and had to see it in theaters
I played The Baker's Wife a few years ago and neither of my parents had seen the show before, and after the first performance they attended they were like "wow, that was an... interesting show." lol
My favorite ting about "Into The Woods" is that they had the original story details. like before Disney changed them. Jacks mum dying. The step sisters cutting off their toes/heels and they birds making them blind. The witch blinding Rapunzels' prince. They did go with the Brothers Grimm version of little red riding hood, where the wolf eats them and they get cut out. Butter then the modern version where grandma is in the closet. But the real original ends after the wolf eating them.
Not quite. The stepsisters' toes/eyes and the prince going blind were part of the original Brothers Grimm stories, as well as the wolf eating both Red and her grandmother.
Pretty gruesome all around.
Also the three nights of balls, and the magic mother's grave. I'm low-key obsessed with Cinderella.
When Sondheim was creating this with one other person (can’t remember the name of the other person😅) they took a more “brothers Grimm” approach yk
Our Milky White was a wooden saw horse painted with a poorly made cow head. During one of our productions the head fell off and the narrator was being super dramatic crying over her while he put her head back on. Truly an iconic moment I've ever seen.
We had a freshman in a cow costume and makeup!
we had a llama whose legs fell off in the middle of it takes two
I went to a production where the milky white was a suitcase that lost its head halfway through
We had a paper mache cow made by the director and a stage crew member forgot to bring it to the correct side of the stage so the baker's wife didn't bring it onstage when she was supposed to so the baker had to be like "and now we have the cow, who is right over......(he walked across the entire stage) here."
Fun fact about “Your Fault:”
The original (Broadway recording) tempo is 134 BPM, while the movie recording was slowed to 113 BPM.
At first I was upset when I heard the movie recording (because I really enjoy the chaos of trying to find the scapegoat and how it was portrayed through the busyness of the music)
And then I realized it’s Sondheim.
These poor actors were not about to do that and I respect it😎
They did a lot of stuff like that and they lowered Cinderellas notes bc Anna Kendrick couldn’t hit that high note at the end so they took the notes and changed them
@@brookedavis6486 I thought they made the key higher?
@@CakeKitty135 Nope, Anna Kendrick couldn’t hit the higher notes bc her voice doesn’t go that high so they had to change most of the notes in her song and some of the notes in the other songs bc of that
I haven’t seen anyone in the comments explain what happened to the Witch so here’s what went down: The Witch was supposed to take of the beans her mother gave her, so when the Baker’s father took them, her mother cursed her to be ugly. She was trying to undo the curse through the first act, but when she became beautiful again, she lost her powers. I’m pretty sure what happened to her is that she was purposely lose the beans so she would get cursed but get her powers back. However, instead of making her ugly like she thought it would, her curse kills her instead. I hope this helps someone :)
Yes, that is what is happening. It is much clearer in the stage play version, I think.
If you've seen the 2012 Les Mis, the boy who plays Jack here - Daniel Huttlestone - is Gavroche in that as well. So talented for only being 13-15 at the time.
I knew I heard his voice before. Now that all makes sense to me
Came to say this! He’s amazing.
I thought it was him!
15:50 - Fun Fact: Sara Bareilles, who played the Baker's Wife in the recent Broadway revival, decided to name her character Rebecca/Becky. Even more fun fact: Brian d'Arcy James (the Baker in the same revival) co-starred with an actress named Becky Ann Baker in the Titanic musical in 1997 so decided to name the Baker after Becky's husband, Dylan.
I always wondered what the Witches name was. At one point I thought her name should be Mirabelle. Mostly because she’s the character that holds up the mirror to all the other characters faces. But also it just sounds like a name a witch would have.
I remember hearing Agony the 1st time in this movie & seeing the dramatic overacting in that performance had me in hysterical laughter in the theater. I had a great time watching this in the theater. I had never seen this show at all before this movie.
The style of the music and Jack’s voice (the little boy) remind me so much of Sweeney Todd. Another phenomenal musical🖤
Sweeney todd is also a sondheim musical, maybe that’s why you are reminded of it
If they ever do a life action Tangled, Meryl Streep needs to play Mother Gothel. Her voice is PERFECT!
Nah, I think Idina Mendel would be awesome for Mother Gothel!
I would accept Meryl Streep or Cher. No one else XD But I PRAY they do a live action Tangled and do it right. She's my favorite princess
I'd rather have Donna Murphy who actually played Mother Gothel she's phenomenal
i love meryl, but casting her kind of defeats the whole "eternal youth" thing gothel has going on. Yes meryl looks amazing for 73, but it would be poor casting unless they cover her up with a ton of makeup, which i think is an insult to Meryl and he natural beauty.
Amanda Seyfried would make a lovely Rapunzel!
Jack is played by Daniel Huttlestone who played Gavroche in the movie version of Les Miserables. He's such an amazing actor and singer for his age! You should react to Les Mis the movie it isn't as horrible as people make it out to be.
YES! He's so great and I personally love Les Mis, I don't get most ppl's biggest critiques at all, I think in a movie adaptation in comparison to the broadway version it is to be expected that you'll have actors who can sing rather than singers who can act and if the vocals sometimes aren't as perfect due to it being very emotional and in character then that's totally fine bc that's what the medium was going for, and I think the cast delivered on that aspect exceptionally. F.ex. Eddie Redmayne is clearly not a trained singer at all but no version of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables has ever managed to make me cry like his does
You just have to have watched the original to fully understand and comprehend it and it’s beauty
Its*
the movie is beautiful!!!!!
I REALLY WANT TO SEE HER REACT TO LES MIS
so the thing i love about this is that Cinderella's story and Rapunzels is based off of the ones told by the Brothers Grimm version. This is one of my favorite musicals and one i actually got to be a part of in high school
I did into the woods Jr back in middle school when I was in 6th grade, our milky white was one of the guys that didn't want to sing or have lines but he pulled it off so well, the way he acted on screen was comedic in itself
Anna Kendrick is fantastic in this but she’s severely underrated in The Last Five Years. Her and Jeremy Jordan were so great in that film.
yes yes yes
I keep waiting for Hannah to react to that movie! My favorite!
OMG YESSS!!!!!
The last five years is so good it makes me cry every timw
HANNAH NEEDS TO WATCH THIS
If you want some more Anna Kendrick love should watch The Last Five Years if you haven't already. Her and Jeremy Jordan!
Seconding the Last Five Year recommendation. Seriously one of my favorite musicals!
Was coming to comment this!
Was going to comment this too! Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan are both amazing in that movie.
This musical always blew me away. They did a great job.
wait why didn’t i know about this till now
I wrote a whole analysis on the Baker’s Wife as a character and when you said “Why doesn’t the baker’s wife have a name.” I GOT SO EXCITED BEVAUDE LITERALLY THATS WHAT I WROTE ABOUT
Don’t be shy, drop the analysis 😂 But seriously, I would read the heck out of that
Yeah but also half the characters don’t have names 🤣🤣
the princes being names 'Cinderella's Prince' and 'Rapunzel's Prince' must be patriarchy too
@@harrisonwaterhouse5051and the baker being named baker
I had to analyze the original cast recording of this back in high school Art Appreciation course (the one with Bernadette Peters). It’s been my favorite musical since. Jack is the same boy who stars in Les Miserables. Phenomenal talent.
Yeah! I just realized that a week ago 😂
omg Sondheim being difficult to play is so true. playing the violin part in the pit orchestra was so fun but so hard. my fingers were so dead after. just looking at the sheet music was intimidating. incredible score though, absolutely fantastic composer
Sondheim is so hard to sing! The kid is the same boy who played Gavroche in the les mis movie. I also heard his voice was breaking at the time this was filmed and he only got that note at the end of giants in the sky once 😅
Can we maybe get Matilda the musical next?
Second this! Please!!!
Omg yes!!! Matilda please!
My son graduated college with a double degree-theater studies and vocal/opera. At his senior recital, he got permission to have his vocal teacher sing with him. They sang Agony and it was great!
Emily Blunt (Oml I love her!!) went from singing in this to being FREAKING MARY POPPINS!!! She absolutely nailed both
The princes and both versions of agony will always be my favourite part of the musical.
Is the agony reprise even in the movie?
@@niencats Sadly no.
@@niencats It really can't be, because Rapunzel's prince doesn't abandon her in the movie - they ride off together and you never see them again. In the stage show he ends up pursuing another princess (Snow White I think) and that's what the brothers sing about in the reprise. Since that didn't happen - and also for time - the reprise was cut.
I actually would have been super pissed if the reprise had stayed in considering the songs they DID cut - namely "No More" and "Ever After."
srdtfyglukyfdthr we've been listening to the soundtrack in the car for a while recently cause both my sister and I are a tad obsessed and Rapunzel's prince's line, "Agony, far more painful than yours" has been stuck in my head for like a month. Even though everyone is about to die (they don't know that yet but still) and they're singing about their abysmal love lives they HAD to work in the sibling rivalry (why are they competing about who's love life is sadder? nobody will ever know) still and I love that for them
James Corden is the "you're not good, you're not bad, you're just nice" himself
I think this is the only performance he has ever done that I didn’t completely hate
My freshman year, my school put this on with a school from the next town. It was the only musical/play i went to see during high school. When i saw this in theaters 2 years later i was so excited.
One can never say enough how much they love Anna Kendrick.
Hannah, the movie is based on the original tales. That's why there is a lot of casual blinding and bleading feet. Those things are missing on the Disney adaptions. Love u. Loved the reaction video ❤️
It still seems weird (although understandable) when Americans are completely surprised by this because I grew up with the Brothers Grimm' version of the fairy tales.
Vastly prefer the stage version. But I do really enjoy Meryl Streeps acting choices as the Witch. My only problem is that her first rendition of Children Will Listen has a lot less impact here than in the show. Because Rapunzel dies in the show, she doesn't run away with her prince.
They seriously sanitised and “Disneyfied” the musical to bring it down to a more family friendly rating.
I remember going to see this at the cinema with a friend who also really loves musicals and being slightly horrified at the number of parents bringing their *very* young children (like 4yr average!) into the late evening screening - only to hear a number of them ahem vigorously discussing at the staff how “That was *NOT* a Disney Princess movie!!!” errrm no shit Sherlock? The rating should have clued you in, and you should be really grateful that they *tamed down* the paedophilic wolf!
Bernadette Peters does AMAZING as the witch in the stage version, I love love loveeee that version. Her witch is so different too, much more unhinged.
That and they REALLY UNDERPLAYED the second rendition. In the play she is AT THE FRONT OF THE STAGE SINGING THAT, IT'S THE MORAL SONG AND CONCLUSION. They had her singing it in the background not even on screen.
@@TheEliKaulitzyeah, I prefer that version overall, I just also really like the way Meryl does the acting.
@@HulaHula667when I was leaving the theater, I heard people saying "I didn't know there would be so much singing". I mean, clearly people don't actually research things before they see a movie lol
I always get so worried when Hannah reviews things that I love, because she makes it known when she doesn’t like something 😂 I just want her to love it all too 😂
Mamma mia 1 and 2 pleaseee...they're just perfect
The chopping off parts of feet is from the original Grimm Brothers story. I love that Sondheim included it in this because so many people don't know how horrific the original tales are, the ones initially told to children. And we worry about scaring kids now-a-days...
Yes! I'm German and I grew up with the original stories :D
and with tangled where the witch blinds the prince and sends rapunzel off to a swamp, and red riding hood where the wolf eats them both and the hunter kills the wolf saving them and skins the wolf to make a new cloak, i love the original Grimm Tales
I know it’s not a very heavy singing musical, but since it has Meryl Streep, we NEED TO WATCH MAMMA MIA.(plus summer’s coming up so…)
I like Johnny's performance in this especially with being a fan of the Sweeney Todd movie! Into the Woods ain't the first time he's sung Sondheim!
It is so hard! Into the woods was my high school musical senior year and we did a live orchestra pit that year. I was 1 of the 2 first violinists
The way Rapunzel and her prince are the only ones who ended up not miserable. . SLAYYY. .
I mean...in this adaptation, sure.
In the movie, yes... However, if you've seen the theater one, I believe both princes ended up with other princesses (Snow White and Aurora). I honestly felt bad for both Rapunzel and her prince in the end but at least one of them had a happy ending.
didn't the prince get blinded?
@@deannabrouns3479 He got cured by Rapunzel's tears when they found each other at the moat, I believe,
Lol she goes mad and gets trampled to death by the giant in the stage musical. The prince doesn't mourn and runs off with Snow White about two seconds later. They "Disneyed" her ending in the movie because of Tangled.
The thing I love about into the woods is that they took the Grimm versions of the fairytales instead of the Disney versions. Like Cinderella. They did actually cut off part of their feet and they were actually blinded and lived as beggars in the fairytale. It’s amazing to see this version of the fairytales in movies and mainstream media
When I saw that movie for the first time at the theater at the age of 9 I couldn't believe what was happening when the baker's wife made out with the prince and then she died 😢😂
I still love that movie, it's one of my favorite musicals. ❤
Hey Hannah!! I think it’s important for you to know that the kid who plays Jack is also Gavroche in the Les Miserables movie!!! He has such a great voice for a young kid like you said! You should totally check it out, he was only about a year younger in Les Mis than he was here. It was a much smaller part though.
I'd love to see you react to Mary Poppins returns, Emily Blunt kills it in that movie as always and Ben Wishaw has the voice of an angel
I was 22 when my mom died, and every time I hear Emily sing Where the Lost Things go, I tear up. What an incredibly powerful song.
Hearing Hannah speak French as a french person was a fever dream, THAT WAS REALY GOOD
the way i started crying just from the tiny snippet of no one is alone you included lol, those harmonies are actually so beautiful
the little boy in the film who plays Jack, he used to go to my school. He's super talented
It would be really cool to see you react to Sweeney Todd! If not just for Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, then for Toby at least!
Yes!! would love that too!
Thank you Hannah for reacting to the most underrated Disney movie ever in my opinion. Just wondering, when are you going to do your zombies 3 reaction? Love your videos. You make my weekend 100 percent better
I love Anna Kendrick as a soprano so freaking much, she has a gorgeous voice 😍
Seeing this again, I remember that the little boy in this also played in the Les Miserable.
The actors in this tho were on fire and did such a good job with their singing.
The witches mom took her back and made her dissapear because she "lost" the beans again. Hope that make more sense! I love your content and I'm so happy you reacted to this!!!
it still kinda doesnt make sense tho,, they hadnt mentioned that or her mum at all in the whole movie
@@luisabolado It's in the song at the very beginning when the witch is describing the curse that made her ugly
@@johnmyers8633 ohh omg i missed that!
Mamma Mia for more Meryl! Also a reaction to Sara Bareilles as The Baker's Wife. Her studio recording is incredible
PLEASE REACT TO SING and SING 2!!!! THE COVERS ARE EVERYTHING!!
i NEED you to react to the play version with Bernadette Peters. She absolutely SLAYS
I agree 100%! ❤❤
It really IS a long movie/musical, but I can't help but absolutely love the songs. And I also LOVE Meryl and Anna. I'll watch absolutely anything they are in. 💜
The 'It Takes Two' Version with Sara Bareilles && Brian D'arcy James is so amazing. The whole recorded cast version & videos are amazing.
I like how Hannah does exactly what I do during the bakers wife’s song respond to her questions
9:44 this kid is so good! He played Gavroche in 2012 Les Miserables movie!
HANNAH THIS MADE MY WEEK. MY HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION WAS INTO THE WOODS AND WE JUST FINISHED IT LAST SATURDAY. IT WAS MY FIRST MUSICAL AND MY FIRST TIME SINGING ON STAGE AND I GOT LITTLE RED! idk i just find it so crazy how you reacted to this so thanks!!!
What did you do for Milky White?
@@catsole9652 i’m really bad at explaining but if you watch a clip on youtube of the Arlington Martin High School production we did something similar to what they did with their milky white
I agree with you so much. Though I love Meryl and Anna, they did a fantastic job, I do think Emily Blunt in the baker's wife role stole the show !
My high school is performing into the woods for our spring musical
The dude who plays Jack also plays gavroche in the les mis movie adaptation (he was on the West end as well)
I was surprised by how much I loved this movie. It's a fun, crazy Rollercoaster. It's also the first movie with James Corden in it that I've LOVED. It's not because of him. But everyone else SLAYS and he managed to be competent enough as a scene partner that it didn't seem too out of place. This isn't hate towards him or anything. He just isn't my cup of ☕️.
I totally agree. The movie is incredible inspite of him is how I think about it lol. I find his performances to be just... fine. But it is fine enough that it doesn't distract from the plot and the other incredible actors much. Could you image if it was a Broadway singer/actor playing the Baker though? It would make the movie even better than it already is especially since he also does the narration, which was a choice...
Also the moment Chris Pine was announced as the Bard in the Dungeons and Dragons movie..."Agony" started playing in my head haha!
I LOVE this film! Thank you SO much for doing this!!!
into the woods is my fav musical every time i watch it IITTT makes me feel like a kid again
I personally love this, yeah it's creepy and weird in some parts not gonna deny that but you just can't say no to some good Sondheim and then with that cast? Yes pls. Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep are awesome in this as always and I especially appreciated your praise for Emily Blunt bc this was actually her first time ever doing anything with singing involved and she absolutely killed it (I think not even her husband John knew beforehand that she could sing that well lol). And the gruesome parts of the Cinderella story etc actually weren't surprising to me at all since I'm German and that'l literally how the original version of those fairytales goes, they're A LOT darker than you'd expect but I've known them like this since childhood and it's always interesting to me when I see that some people forget about it or aren't even aware that the sort of disneyfied versions aren't what the original fairytales are like at all xD
From my opinion I love Into the Woods it makes me happy idk y
RIGHT I AGREEEERE
I feel the same way 🙂
I agree
of course this comes right after we finish our production of into the woods!!! also it's still a tragedy how they slowed down Your Fault, like everyone backstage was always hyped during that song, it was basically what got us through the second act💀
also our milky white was terrified and emaciated and fell apart multiple times
My school is doing Into The Woods for our spring musical!!! im so excited
What?! The stage version Into the Woods is NOT too long. It's perfect.
Hard agree!!!
I have to remind myself a lot that I have a much longer attention span than a lot of people because I love 3 to 4 hour musicals and movies. My roommate on the other hand has to pause Into the Woods like 3 or 4 times to get through it because she just has a shorter attention span and gets fatigued watching it. So something that is perfect for you and I could be wayyyyy to long for other people. I watch 5 hour documentaries for fun so my gauge of the "perfect length" is much longer than most. A single peice of media can't cater to everyone's preferences and that is okay. :)
Actually the original Broadway recording is practically the same length as Hamilton and many other musicals 2 and a half hours isn't that long tbh
If you love Anna Kendrick, you should definitely comment The Last Five Years ! I love that movie and she's lead with Jeremy Jordan. So just an amazing combination ❤ It would be perfect for you channel 😊
I would pay every cent I have left after bills and food for this (granted it's not that much, but I'm more than willing to part with it). The emotional journey is also beyond worth it.
Yesssss.....ive been checking to see if she has every video. Amd since she loves both actors singing then its a win win
This show literally BROKE ME it’s so good
The actor that plays Jack is also Gavroche in the movie version of Les Mis!! Also, just putting it out there because I haven't seen it on here yet... Into the "Woulds"
You don’t even understand how long I have been waiting for this!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
The one thing I love about Into the Woods is how accurate they kept the fairytales
Awesome video. Into the Woods is probably my favorite musical. I think it would be cool if you reacted to the filmed stage production with Bernadette Peters. Also I'd love to see you react to The Last Five Years, Studio Chizu's Belle, Galavant, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, and Mamma Mia.
ive already seen this video but im rewatching it now, and at 15:06 when hannah says "huh! a toddler size 9" is so much funnier after working at a kids show store omg!! like i understood the joke before but after constantly pulling toddler size 9 shoes for customers and actually seeing how small they are, just makes the joke so much funnier.
ugh the music is just gorgeous
I also think Into The Woods is freakishly long but it's also one of my favorite musicals story wise and music wise. But my all time favorite is The Last Five Years and I have been begging you to react to it for over a year now! Hannah, honey, love, please. We need it. It's what the people want. All we ask for is a TLFY reaction, you'll love it. Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, what more could anyone want really? Pretty please 🥺
I literally die every time I hear the harmony in 21:05 ITS SO GORGEOUS
Yes!!!! Gave me chills!
Great reaction! I love Anna Kendrick's voice so much too. If you want more of her singing, you should check out the The Last Five Years film adaptation she was in, she and Jeremy Jordan CRUSHED it.
my school district did a production of into the woods, my friend played milky white and had a puppet (similar to the broadway production i believe?), the whole cast did amazing, the girl who played the witch did incredible, im shocked her voice hadnt given up since i saw the last performance of three-five
Another great Meryl Streep movie set would be the Mamma Mia movies. Grew to love her because of her role in those :)
I love this musical, my Favorite from Sondheim (along with WSS), i love all the songs, the cast is impressive
Also Meryl Streep was nominated for an Oscar for this movie
YES I AM SO GLAD YOU DID THIS! I am currently in the into the woods play at my school and I’m actually Cinderella! I’m so excited!
Into the woods have a special place in my heart, as it was the first show/musical I ever did! (The junior version so basically just the first act)
Since you love Anna Kendrick you should watch The Last Five Years!! Her voice is beautiful and she does such a great job portraying Cathy. And its such an underrated musical
I mean. The original red riding hood has been said to be suggestive and actually about a woman’s s*xual awakening so the song being icky makes sense 😂 and the blindness & chopped off toes from the sisters is book accurate too
Daniel Huttlestone who plays Jack also plays Gavroche in Les Miserables
I think the boy who plays Jack also played Gavroche in Les Misérables. Also, Chris Pine sang with Barbara Streisand and sounded great
That little boy also did an incredible job singing in Les Mis
@@baddie4793 Yeah. His name is Daniel Huttlestone. I used to have the biggest crush on him when I was younger.
AHHHHH! I’ve been hoping for a reaction of this!! I personally love Into The Woods, and u made it even more fun and enjoyable! Thank you so much for this 💗
When ever i feel down i always watch thiss film
I like this one. My favorite Sondheim though is Sunday in the Park With George with Bernadette Peters and Mandy Pantakin. There are clips on RUclips, I think it was filmed in the 80’s.
