You are absolutely right on about The Greatest Showman. Visually very stunning - a spectactle - but it's all flash. Songs come from out of nowhere - no real buildup. Why develop character when you can jump into a song? It makes me sad because there is such a good story here, but you would never know it from the movie.
This is not a movie you watch for the script or the story, this is a movie you watch for the music, the performances, and the spectacle lol, I just love how much of a passion project it clearly was for everyone
Fun fact: the actress that plays Jenny Lind CAN sing, but the vocalist training her for the song was so freaking talented that the actress insisted she performed it and got credit for her vocals
Yeah, the real vocalists name is Loren Allred and she worked as a voice over singer because she suffered from a lot of stage fright but then she went on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022 to combat her fears and state proudly that this was her song
I find it an ironic twist story-wise as well in a way... barnum wants lind to perform so the audience gets something "real", yet hers is the only voice that isn't her own..
Judgmental much? Barnum never cheated on his wife. He got swept up for a while in the fame, and success, which included being in awe of Lind’s talent. When he finally realized what she thought he wanted, he tried to reject her as politely as possible. Unfortunately, a woman scorned, she kissed him, knowing it would get him in trouble, sort of a farewell f*ck you. Try to remember this is a time piece, and back then, these circus attractions were considered less than human by a number of ignorant folks, so when Barnum swoops in and shows them they’re more, of course they’d rally around him. There’s nothing cult like about it.
Fun fact: the bartender in the song 'The Other Side' is actually one of the choreographers. He choreographed the song and I honestly think that it was a really good (and also practical) choice to have him play the bartender.
The bartender in Hugh and Zac's duet is actually the choreographer, that's why he's so impressive. He's actually directing the scene and making sure all props are handed perfectly
Also look really closely at how PT gets Phillip drunk while faking drinking. Phillip drinks 4 shots before agreeing to the job while PT has 1.5. He fills his shot halfway while giving Phillip the full shot in one scene and swirls his hand around with the shot in it so Phillip doesn’t notice the difference. And when he doesn’t drink the shot when Phillip does when Phillip turns away from the piano. The second PT realizes Phillip isn’t looking, he puts down his shot and delivers the final piece of his argument/defense. It’s so beautifully done
Fun fact: Zendaya trained hard to do the trapeze work and it was all her on the big screen--no cgi and no double. She and Zac talk about their trapeze scene on one of the late night talk shows (one of the Jimmy’s).
He sang in the second and third HSM’s the only reason Drew Seeley sang in the first HSM was by the time they cast Zac the songs were already written and they didn’t have the time to go through and raise/lower all the songs to keys he can sing so they had Drew do most of the singing but you can hear in some of the songs where it switches from one of them to the other
uh what are you talking about? Zac sang in both sequels and sang in Hairspray long before he ever did TGS. You had like 10 years of his actual voice out there.
@@Mia_M Zac still didn't know how to act or sing in Hairspray lol I love the movie but his performance was _bad._ Here, we actually get to see Zac act and sing and it's one of the reasons I love this movie.
@@Black-Swan-007 that’s your personal opinion. And op didn’t comment on Zac’s performance, they commented on being able to hear his voice as if he hadn’t previously sung in anything. Tbf, a lot of the performances in Hairspray were over the top and not great, but it’s still a fun movie. And the songs were good.
I’m willing to say that Zendaya might be the Ryan Reynolds for straight women(I said maybe because I am not straight nor am I a women but I also love Zendaya)
@@foxzie._8371 Yeah, maybe. I mean I’m a straight woman, but I just like Zendaya because from what I’ve seen she’s nice, respectful, and can defend herself-which I think is pretty cool. So, I think my version of liking is more similar to “admiration”, perhaps.
@@RedRoseSeptember22 I suggest you look up Loren Allred on Google cus that's the woman who sings the song and not Rebecca Ferguson who is the actress only for that part.
Rebecca Ferguson did a great job playing Jenny, she can sing, but she realized that her vocals are not enough to sound like the greatest singer. And if it wasn't for Rebecca we might never have known about Loren Allred, who sings instead of her in the movie. By the way, I was surprised that so little time was given to Never Enough in this reaction. It's an amazing song that gives me goosebumps every time.
The thing is, even though it looks like Barnum had feelings for Jennie, he never did. When he looked at her, he was only seeing the fame she was providing him. That was what he loved. As soon as he noticed she had feelings for him, he stopped it. It wasn't even a struggle he had of thinking "I can't do this, I have a wife and kids" because he just didn't feel the same way.
In regards to why they didn’t cast the actual singer of never enough, the actress was supposed to sing the song, and can sing it. The scratch singer (the one in the recording) was so good the actress didn’t feel right singing for the movie when they had such an emotionally powerful performance already. She backed down willingly because she thought it would be better for the movie.
@@faxe1155 Trying to keep this short: Jeremy helped record early demos for the movie, because the composers are his friends. The next year, he got called out to help during the table read for Fox execs for the part of Phillip Carlyle. Hugh ends up having nose surgery (cancer) a day before and wasn't supposed to sing. Jeremy ended up standing in and helped sing Hugh's parts, plus read and sang for Carlyle's parts. Hugh actually ended up singing 1 song and breaking his stitches anyway... look up that video if you haven't. It's good. Jeremy did hope he would get the part of Carlyle but he didn't. I think a lot of fans feel he was owed a part in the film because of all his involvement and help before it was ever greenlit.
@@ImAlsoMerobibahe’s not owed anything. He chose to help and probably got a lot out of it. He had the choice to turn it down. I understand him being disappointed to not get it but he shouldn’t expect it. Just like workshops, no guarantee you’ll move to the main show cast
The reason he went to “hiring” people who were different is that if you watch when he was a child, they were the ones that showed him kindness, gave him food when he had nothing (woman with the apple) and he remembered that. Of course he was manipulative and took advantage of them but you also have to remember what time period this story takes place, doesn’t forgive what was done but something too consider when watching this.
As far as your question about them sticking with him even as he treated them like “crap”. At the time you have to remember they probably couldn’t have gotten employment, wouldn’t have been able to get housing etc because they were considered less then by the entire population. Barnem gave them a wage and a roof over their heads and a safer place then the streets.
The way I see it is we're watching a story about Barnum told by Barnum. He's gonna up-sell all of the positives and sweep as much as he can under the biggest rug he can find.
Yes!! Was coming here to say all of this. We can look at things in the past with our current lens and discuss what we know now to be wrong. But we have to think of the time these people lived in. The performers were on the fringe of society and being in Barnum’s show gave them money, housing, food, and a way to contribute in a more acceptable way (for the time). People had a lot of prejudice. It’s important that we learn from history but we can’t fully judge by today’s standards.
In the young PT Barnum montage is a scene where you realize his amazed by the performers. When the old lady gives him the apple, he saw the humanity in them. And as another comment said, the contrast of them being homeless and humiliated to Barnum giving them a true community and control over how ppl see them is what make them loyal to him. Like, for modern day it's not good at all, but giving the time context, what he did was pretty revolutionary
fun fact: keala settle (bearded lady) is currently cast in the movie Wicked. She's a phenomenal singer and I can't see the songs she sings. There's no way they cast her not to sing she is just amazing.
yes, rewrite the stars is romantic because the context of the story tells us she is very much interested in him but is scared of the social repercussions. it'd be very different if she had previously displayed no interest or actively disliked him but that wasn't the case. scenes don't exist in a vacuum, you need to take the whole story into account.
That’s one of the biggest problems with being “too woke”. Context starts to disappear. Which is unfortunate because you can easily miss the beauty and nuance in life
@@hugomendoza5665 it’s both, every time anything off happened she had to virtue signal. Like we ALL thought it was ok to dehumanize people 😂 she ruined the story for herself by being so concerned about the “correctness” of people’s behavior
I love that Charity is singing about how its enough for her to just be with him and thats makes her happy but Jenny sings how it would never be enough for her even if he steals all the stars from the sky
Actually it’s the opposite. The lyrics to never enough “take my hand and share this with me because darling without you” before the chorus. She’s saying all that stuff wouldn’t make losing him worth it
@@carolinealano3962 It would actually make more since of the character for it to be about fame & spot light not being enough for her. one of the writers said it’s like someone being in a castle with all their riches but doesn’t add up to enough, it’s the moment when someone isn’t really satisfied. But i don’t think that means its not possible to also be about love and be both, People have their interpretations
16:36 I feel like the reason why they chose for the circus performers to fight back at the protesters was to show that despite their leader shunning them, they still had what he gave them, a community. Through community, they accepted each other and were able to take on the outside world. It showed they no longer needed a leader; it was a stance of independence. Beforehand, they depended on Barnum to protect them, but this song demonstrated their power in numbers. When P.T. Barnum learns from his mistakes they forgive him because through community, they also learned acceptance.
@@enbie_pal while true, it was a different time, you can’t use modern morality to judge people in their time. In reality, (in the movie) he gave these people real lives. We’re they didn’t have to hide, or be ashamed. He game them an income, some of these people in the time were unemployable. A disability in anyway before modernity eliminated you from hard manual labor.
I would of loved Keala Settle to play Ursula in The Little Mermaid. Her booming and powerful voice would of been amazing. Her singing This is me is all the proof I needed ❤
This! Melissa McCarthy did a good job, but the first time I heard her version of poor unfortunate souls I couldn't help but be a little dissappointed that they didn't give the part to someone who is an actual singer
Tightrope is such a good contrast with A Million Dreams, when Charity reaches her hand and jumps near the edge of the building showing full trust in PT Bartum. Then in Tightrope's line is 'will you catch me if I should fall' showing she doesn't trust him to catch her anymore
You have to remember that, in the movie context, before Barnum, the performers were shunned, homeless, berated, bullied, etc. They were loyal to him because he gave them a home, a family, and treated them as though they were someone special to be celebrated and shown to the world, rather than freaks to be hidden away. In a way, he was allowing them to take control of how they allowed the rest of society to see them by embracing their different-ness.
Definitely came here to say this. Hannah girl, just enjoy it. This is such a special story with awesome music and performers, if you would give it a chance.
@@anniethompson-almeida875 She definitly came into this with the heavy baggage of lensing Barnum through today's social norms. When she was like "Riding an elephant! Animal cruelty!" I was like what? People ride elephants every day. Is riding a horse animal cruelty? Making them stand on one foot while you throw rings on their tusks might be cruel, but jut hopping on their back?
you have to look at the deeper meaning of how he's looking at jenny: he's not looking at her in love WITH HER. he's looking at her in love with the RECOGNITION she's giving him. he wants more than anything to be successful and saw success in her. during "never enough" you can see it when people applaud - he got the success he desperately craved.
This right here. Everyone sees it as he is a great husband because he “resisted temptation” when he actually just wanted to share his big successes with his family. He is great because he truly loved and missed his family and did what he could to start running his business in a way to free up some time for him to spend with his family. He didn’t even slightly care for that woman beyond the fame she got him. Not cheating is super easy when you actually like and love your spouse, we need to stop glorifying “resisting temptation” and acknowledge that maybe we should work on emotional intelligence and making sure you like the person you say you love. It is easy to mistake lust for love if you don’t know what it means to actually like your partner as a friend and person.
I have to say the reason Charity took him back so easily is because she knew his interest in Jenny wasn't about lust it was about the money. He literally told Jenny lynn like hey i want to give people genuine talent, without tricking them (Example: stuffing the tall guys shirt to make him appear fatter). He saw her as more a means to make him famous and Legit ( his family was still seen as poor class even though they had money). That's why when she came on to him he was like uhh wait you like me? I need to go. He was charming to all the people that he wanted to work for him, he charmed all the "freaks" to work for him and Jenny Lynn was no exception. Charity knew because of his traumatic childhood he wanted to prove his worth to her father and all the High society. Then he promised to change and she was like okay, he did. he made his family a priority and learned to be happy with what he had.
I loved that Charity took him back that easy. I mean she never was mad about the kiss, but that he grow distance, that he lost side of the whole picture, forgot why he did all of this. He just wanted to be upperclass so bad, he forgot that Charity only ever wanted him for who he was. And when he came back and left that high society she knew that he finally got it too.
Yeah. I think I'm done with her. I remember when she actually got into the music and technical stuff but this was just 27 minutes of criticism, most of which was unjustified.
@@TamiThePinkHairedGirl I mean people are allowed to have different opinions not saying you said that but you can’t really be upset plus a lot of people don’t really like this movie
If you watch the song at the bar closely, Hugh Jackman's character is continuously plying Zac Efron's character with alcohol but barely drinks any himself until the deal is struck. Totally fits how manipulative the character is
i remember a few months ago i was rewatching and during 'The Other Side' i literally thought midway 'oh wow barnum is just getting zac drunker and drunker until he complies :o'
Hey Hannah, the actual singer that sing Never Enough, Loren Allred, was on Britain Got Talent and she explained why they used her voice rather than the actress’s
I WILL say this for the Greatest Showman....I really liked the songs. They wove their way perfectly into the story without being boring or clumsy. They were very catchy and fun. I especially liked the one Hugh Jackman and Zach Efron do in the bar.
23:11 "This is the best love story of the whole movie! And they've barely had any screen time!" There are people that loved Anne and Phillip so much that, after seeing the movie, they said they wanted a Greatest Showman 2 focussed on them. I wouldn't say no to that, they're so sweet
One thing I found interesting about the "freak shows" was the performers were actually upset when they were phased out because they said the shows gave them opportunities that wouldn't have come to them otherwise. I've watched several documentaries about them and that is the one thing they all had in common...they were generally treated better when they were in the shows versus being in institutions prior to the popularity of the shows. But yes, my first reaction to freak shows was the same as yours (they were being treated as less than human and put on display), but I was glad that for the most part, that wasn't how they felt ❤
I mean if they enjoyed the act why would that make them feel less than human. It’s like modern time all these influencers content creators, celebrities are put on display to this day and we consider it totally normal
My favorite songs are the Other Side and Rewrite the Stars. She is so right about the lyrics being unforgettable. I love this movie but haven’t had time to watch it in months and I was remembering every single lyric of every song while watching this.
I think this movie is a good example of how passion overrules its faults. There are a lot of problematic aspects to this film but I didn't care because the amount of passion that was put into this movie was overwhelming. Thank you for reacting to this! I'm definetly going to go watch the musical numbers now.
He wasn't officially slated for the part yet but he was hoping for the part after helping out Hugh and everything, sadly Hugh met and loved Zac for the part. I would have loved to see Jeremy opposite Hugh, that would have been amazing !
It would be cool if u could watch them sing it live during rehearsals. The video of keala settle singing with everyone around her singing as well was a total vibe
I get that the real PT Barnum wasn't a great guy, but your read on his reactions to the different people he would hire to be part of his show is way different from mine. I never saw him as being creepy or audaciously being fascinated by what he saw as weird. I always felt he legitimately saw the humanity in them and was inspired by their talent and drive for authenticity. The movie, at least to me, continually pressed that theme rather successfully. And it goes nicely with his turn partway into the movie where the fame corrupts him and THEN he sees the people he once admired as nothing but sideshow attractions to his true success--and THEN it comes full circle when he realizes that he strayed from his original vision of celebrating the diversity and talent of his original hires.
So, we all know that the actual singer of "Never Enough" went on BGT. She actually explained that it was Rebecca Ferguson who decided that Lauren should be the voice for the song and gave the honor to her. So, it was actually her choice not to sing the song, not the director or producers. Edit: Also a fun fact about the scene of the fire. That was a real fire and they had trouble controlling it. Hugh Jackman actually ran into that burning building and saved Zac Effron. That scene wasn't fake, but it was too good to leave out and too authentic to try and recreate.
My main memory of seeing this in the cinema is the opening scene and how the floor was literally shaking with the sound of the music and I remember just looking up at the screen feeling so excited and like a little kid again.
The bartender is Daniel “Cloud” Campos. Amazing choreographer/dancer… artist. His piece “Bus Stop” is amazing, and you can see exactly why he deserves his flowers.
I think “other side” is an amazing song due to how amazing the choreo is with a “simpler song” when really it has so many fun beats. It has as much impact as a whole cast number (which I overall love in every musical etc over solos).
There is a video of them rehearsing this is me and it shows how passionate everyone was about the music in this. They even break into tears while singing. Its SO GOOD
I genuinely love this film! I love the score, I love the message - be who you want to be how you want to, let others be how they want, it’s perfectly valid
My music taste shows itself again! I don’t want to offend anyone with this btw! I sort of find the people’s usual favourite songs (A Million Dreams, Never Enough, Rewrite The Stars, Tightrope) almost mainstream and/or boring-ish - WITHOUT them being bad. The score is amazing. I just like The Greatest Show, Come Alive, The Other Side and From Now On more. However, I do love the message in This Is Me lovely. Again, I do not wish to offend anyone! This is simply my opinion. Come for me if you absolutely must, but I warn you, I did hard-core self defence

I think I saw this twice in the cinema, I didn't usually like making period pieces more modern but I was OBSESSED with the choreography and songs in this! Just fits so well somehow. Also Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron was a killer move 👌💖
Exactly. As long as people remember that the movie’s story is VAGUELY based on PT Barnum’s story (from what I understand, in a much more positive light), and therefore doesn’t need to be spot on with everything, it’s a beautiful story and a blast to watch. People just sadly tend to take ‘based loosely on’ movies too seriously and it keeps them from enjoying it for what it is.
For a good percentage of high school, I was completely OBSESSED with this movie! "Greatest Showman" 24/7. I'm pretty sure I made my brothers sick of having to listen to me sing those songs (especially "Rewrite the Stars") nonstop. When I introduced my best friend to this movie, at the part when Jenny Lind kisses PT. Barnum, my friend shouted, "She did NOT!" Still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie. But it made me so upset that Anne (Zendaya) never got to see a play at the theatre. Fun fact: The guy who plays Philip's prejudiced dad, Byron Jennings, is the store owner in the PBS musical, "She Loves Me." Several months ago, I re-watched "She Loves Me" and I knew the store owner (Byron Jennings) looked familiar but I couldn't place him. Then I learned that I recognized him for his non-singing role in a musical.
"A Million Dreams" makes my wife cry because it makes her think of our deceased son. We took him to see this movie with our other kids just a couple of years before he passed.
@@RedRoseSeptember22dude get out of here why’d you feel the need to reply to everyone’s comments and try to correct them even though you’re the one that’s wrong? Yeah, but this review sucked. She just saw here to sell sponsors and get more subscribers. Not one real review about any of these truly amazing songs. Too catty for me.
My school's choir actually got to sing with Loren Allred in concert!! her voice is just as beautiful in real life as it sounds after production, and she's super sweet!!
26:53 “I was wanting to see him grovel and beg for his wife’s forgiveness but that probably says too much about me” When I tell you I screamed and I feel the exact same way 😂
i saw this movie in Theater and let me just say it was an entire experience, hearing the surround sound of the first song, gave me chills. i loved it so much i watched it three times in theater, taking various family members. Having said that watching it on the tv screen afterward did take away a little of the greatness (its still a good movie) so please keep that in mind. it was meant to be seen in the Theater to get the full experience.
The whole thing with like the never enough was that loren Allred (who actually sings it) did like the demo but the person who played the character (who can sing) said that lorens was much better than she could ever do x
I love that you make the point about the little emotional development before "This is Me" because of how quickly all the songs start. That was my biggest issue with this movie (which I should preface I still love) but it just moved so quickly. They could have done a mini-series instead of a movie with how much content and story development potential there is.
this is one of my favorites musicals :)) fun fact, Jeremy Jordan was supposed to be in it :( he has a whole video telling the story and Zendaya did all her stunts, she's so cool i'm sad cause tbh i feel like you were a liiiiitle too critical haha especially when you said all the songs sound the same cause i don't agree lol but anyways, i'm glad you liked some of it haha
Why was Jeremy not hired? Did they need more star power? There are some broadway guys I loooove (Derek klena) but Hollywood may not see them as star power enough.
@@strawberrylime33 Hugh Jackman simply met Zac Efron and loved him for the role, I don't think it was anything more than that. Jeremy was involved in the inital pitch and helped out by performing all the songs and reading some of the parts as Hugh Jackman couldn't sing due to having had surgery to remove cancer from his nose (didn't want him to pop his stitches, although he did anyway at the end).
You need to watch two green light videos for this movie: “From Now On,” which Hugh Jackson sang after cancer surgery (he wasn’t supposed to be singing and his nose is bleeding at the end cause he ripped his stitches), and “This is Me.” Keala Settle wasn’t cast, she sang it as a favor to Hugh for the green light, and knocked it so far out of the park that she became the Bearded Lady. Both are experiences I’ll never forget! Also, I get what you’re saying about Barnum’s performers, but I heard someone once say something along the lines of, “people protest the circus and think they’re doing a good deed, fighting for equality and human rights. Then the circus shuts down and the performers lose their homes and jobs, and have nowhere else to go, while the protesters are done, they wash their hands of it and congratulate themselves on a job well done. They never stick around to make sure the performers can have another job, a place to stay, a hot meal.”
Hannah I am so in awe of the career you've built for yourself, and so grateful for your sharing it with us. Please don't forget to involve yourself with the world of theatre IRL! We need talents like you.
In Port Jefferson NY on Long Island there is actually a house that the real PT Barnum lived in. It was his summer house. And there are pictures of him riding the elephants down town and pictures of the elephants roaming around what is now Rocketship Park and the downtown area in general. It’s so cool!!
Well, they needed to say she was an opera singer because Jenny Lind actually existed. In the 19th century, she was kind of a star, with a voice that was rumoured to be out of this world, like the most beautiful voice ever heard. Her byname accordingly was "The Swedish Nightingale". Needless to say, I was kind of disappointed when she sang yet another pop song (even if it fits to the movie and is really beautiful). I also hated a lot about the movie, not gonna lie. From today´s standpoint the whole "I´m going to turn your ugly into beautiful" that he sold to the people just seemed insincere since he also exploited them for his own gain. Just my opinion. But in theory, people in mid-19th century were - like you said - really into sensationalism and exoticism. So the fact that people would love it and he recognized that is definitely and sadly true.
Not only that but the words to Never Enough definitely aren't the ones she'd be singing on stage. I think that song was more of an inner monolog moment because it wouldn't in fact matter what she sang on stage.
I really hate how people in the comments are defending this movie, pointing out details when the film doesn’t even make that really clear to the audience and complaining that’s she’s being negative, the plot is terrible, sorry, people are allowed to have negative opinions about stuff you like and saying that you will unfollow for this is also obnoxious
Guys... (Please read) The whole point of the movie was to create a message for people to realize. Well for me there's three messages. 1."Family is infinite and money is temporary." And 2. Real life struggles on how society views certain people. And the quote at the end of the end of the movie 3. "The noblest art is that of making others happy." I'm not hating on some of your comments nor Hannah's or anyone's opinions but I do believe there's such a thing as criticizing waaay too much. Yes Barnum brought them into the circus and basically put them on display for reasons that would benefit him and possibly his family too but at the same time he was the one to give them a chance while the mast majority of society didn't. While I do agree he wasn't a good person over all with the whole making them into a circus sort of deal but it is a fact that he treated them better than others. Even their own families. And as for the Jenny thing I know she was an opera singer but not everything has to be accurately lined up with history. Although it would've been interesting to see, I don't think it would've been as popular considering how popular pop is nowadays. At least that's my opinion on it. The song does fit well with the movie. Another thing I'd like to clear up on the last sentence is the fact that I don't think that it's only the realization of the people's enjoyment on it but more of the realization of future success. And that success led to fame which then started to lead to greed and finally ends up with nothing.(Until he got what he wanted back). Or it could've been he was happy finally doing something that gave him the opportunity to have people see his potential. Truly was blinded by greed. Once you pay attention closely to everything it can be clear. I can't agree on the hate of the movie because the things people hate about it was purposely put there to create the message but I can agree with the fact that Barnum has been a douche. But I also believe he at least had some humanity. After all people make mistakes. Lol sorry it's a long paragraph I get way too detailed when explaining things. That tends to always happen especially being observant..anyway again no hate. Just how I view it. 😅
The lady who gave him bread as a child was the first person other than his wife to show him genuine kindness. She had a facial anomaly. That's why his dream was to give people with differences a home. Of course, then his poverty shame and desperation to prove himself got in the way of that. P.S. The young Barnum actor was dubbed over with a different singer, too.
From what I’ve read, Rebecca Furgeson was gonna sing Never Enough but then she heard Loren Alred on the demo and was like “nah, she’s has to sing this. She was made for it”. It was an admiration thing not a cop out.
I’m almost 32 and while I don’t really like the movie, the soundtrack gives me chills as a disabled kid that was also too anxious to be a theater kid but always went to school plays in my area and supported my best friend who was one. I also worked backstage a lot but this movie actually gave me some confidence to maybe try it again.
What you're calling a 'curse' is actually called awareness and reflection. And it's a good thing. If more people were thoughtful like that, there would be more movies which actually ARE cute, without us having to turn off our brains in order to enjoy it. Thank you for being reflected!
My best friend and I went out to watch this movie when we both thought we were straight and in this movie date we both somehow kinda developed a crush on each other. Now we're boyfriends and this is his favorite movie
just some important things to note: being part of a "freak show" was, in fact, a lucrative business for some. people would purposefully go out and get tattooed in order to be in them as they could make good money (and several went on on independent fame.) obviously the story isn't the same for every performer or show but for some, it genuinely was their preferred path to fame or independence

Fun fact: the actress that plays Jenny Lind CAN sing, but the vocalist training her for the song was so freaking talented that the actress insisted she performed it and got credit for her vocals
Yeah, the real vocalists name is Loren Allred and she worked as a voice over singer because she suffered from a lot of stage fright but then she went on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022 to combat her fears and state proudly that this was her song
yes!! came here to comment this. she performed on...america's got talent? I don't remember which show, but it was stunning.

Also look really closely at how PT gets Phillip drunk while faking drinking. Phillip drinks 4 shots before agreeing to the job while PT has 1.5. And when he doesn’t drink the shot when Phillip does when Phillip turns away from the piano. The second PT realizes Phillip isn’t looking, he puts down his shot and delivers the final piece of his argument/defense.

As soon as he noticed she had feelings for him, he stopped it. It wasn't even a struggle he had of thinking "I can't do this, I have a wife and kids" because he just didn't feel the same way.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A thousand times. (Not the real story, but you actually watched the film. Hannah didn't.)
... he was a SLAVE owner. we don't need to sympathize babes

Keala Settle was also in the Original Broadway cast of Waitress (Becky) - she is an amazing vocalist.

yes, rewrite the stars is romantic because the context of the story tells us she is very much interested in him but is scared of the social repercussions. it'd be very different if she had previously displayed no interest or actively disliked him but that wasn't the case. scenes don't exist in a vacuum, you need to take the whole story into account.
That’s one of the biggest problems with being “too woke”. Context starts to disappear. Which is unfortunate because you can easily miss the beauty and nuance in life

I do want to state, this is what I think the intended message was. I do agree with Hannah that there are morally dubious moments in the film.
@@enbie_pal while true, it was a different time, you can’t use modern morality to judge people in their time.

In contrast, its my very least favourite song from the movie. I have skipped it in the past but now just mute it 😂
It's one of my favorite songs from the movie along with The Other Side and Rewrite the Stars.
He also made them the first celebrities and fabulously wealthy. Like so so so rich.
Truth
It's too bad they didn't really illustrate the contrast in lifestyle in the movie. Might've redeemed the character more.
Literally this
This right here.
*Jenny Lind. Actual historical swede and famous operasinger.
I loved that Charity took him back that easy. I mean she never was mad about the kiss, but that he grow distance, that he lost side of the whole picture, forgot why he did all of this.
So why did he treat them like slaves in real life?

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE. TURN IT UP !!! 💖✨
This is MY FAVORITE love scene in a Musical! Zendaya also learned the trapeze for this movie too.
I’m so sorry for your loss ❤
I immediately stopped what I was doing to watch! Queen Hannah is back👑👑👑
Same
Yeah and she ruined everything with her commentary and said absolutely nothing about the singing or techniques or anything.
Same and now I should probably keep learning for my test tomorrow xD
@@RedRoseSeptember22dude get out of here why’d you feel the need to reply to everyone’s comments and try to correct them even though you’re the one that’s wrong? If you like this movie and don’t like Hannah’s commentary, go watch the movie yourself instead of her video. We don’t need the negativity here
Yeah, but this review sucked. She just saw here to sell sponsors and get more subscribers. Not one real review about any of these truly amazing songs. Too catty for me.
I'd love to see a reaction to Jeremy Jordan's solo special he did where he talked about his role in The Greatest Showman.
That was heartbreaking, Jeremy Jordan deserevd better, he's on a different level. They owe him big time
"Aww! Poor Baby! Sing about it." I love it cuz literally every musical ever
“Aww poor baby 😥 Sing about it 😁” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The sound track is amazing. You could endless listen to any song. I love a million dreams and the other side the most
My school's choir actually got to sing with Loren Allred in concert!! her voice is just as beautiful in real life as it sounds after production, and she's super sweet!!
JEALOUS!!!!
26:53 “I was wanting to see him grovel and beg for his wife’s forgiveness but that probably says too much about me”
When I tell you I screamed and I feel the exact same way 😂
Fun fact: Rewrite the Stars was the first scene Zac and Zendaya shot together. 😮
i saw this movie in Theater and let me just say it was an entire experience, hearing the surround sound of the first song, gave me chills. i loved it so much i watched it three times in theater, taking various family members. Having said that watching it on the tv screen afterward did take away a little of the greatness (its still a good movie) so please keep that in mind. it was meant to be seen in the Theater to get the full experience.
i feel like zac efron had said at some point for the press junket for this movie that zendaya had been his best costar kiss
The whole thing with like the never enough was that loren Allred (who actually sings it) did like the demo but the person who played the character (who can sing) said that lorens was much better than she could ever do x
Fun Fact: Jeremy Jordan wanted to play Zac Efron's part - he even sang ALL of Zac's songs in the meeting with Fox to get the movie greenlight.
And Hugh's part because he had just had surgery WHILE being sick himself
@@TishaMae yeah!! And I feel like Jeremy said in his video that the role went to Zac because they wanted a bigger name.
The Supernatural Musical episode is something to react to 😭😭 The Meta-ness is absolutely ridiculous but the songs hit harder than they should……
THIS WOULD BE GREAT
Would love this also
Yesssssss
Yesssss! but also….SOMEONE WHO WATCHES SUPERNATURAL
“OMG. We’re having a Titanic moment in the back 👀” - Hannah Bayles 2 minutes and 40 seconds in to the video 🤭
Btw ur cats are so cutttee 🥰
she is a walking Twitter I wished she spend more time talking about music and not wasting time trying to slay
Its adhd not looking cool weirdo
I love that you make the point about the little emotional development before "This is Me" because of how quickly all the songs start. That was my biggest issue with this movie (which I should preface I still love) but it just moved so quickly. They could have done a mini-series instead of a movie with how much content and story development potential there is.
this is one of my favorites musicals :)) fun fact, Jeremy Jordan was supposed to be in it :( he has a whole video telling the story and Zendaya did all her stunts, she's so cool
i'm sad cause tbh i feel like you were a liiiiitle too critical haha especially when you said all the songs sound the same cause i don't agree lol but anyways, i'm glad you liked some of it haha
When watching the first one, watch Jeremy’s the day I saved the greatest showman. Completely different perspective
Totally agree!
Unlike in reality I'm pretty sure they were adequately paid.
@@audramcdonaldapologist3676 You seem way more committed in hating this movie for reasons that are either untrue or irrelevant.
Guys... (Please read)
The whole point of the movie was to create a message for people to realize.
Now you HAVE TO WATCH how Jeremy Jordan saved The Greatest Showman!
An important thing to note is that this wasn’t the case for the people he hired. He actively sought out very poor people who he manipulated and abused
@@jude2032 while true, poor people that he employed, gave a semblance of fame. In the time period, it’s the best most of them could have ever achieved on their own.
The “freak show” people really had two options. Work for Barnum, make money, be treated slightly better, have friends who have also been othered, and be gauged at and ridiculed. OR be poor, alone and be gauged at and ridiculed and likely die younger then you would otherwise.
@@daketora exactly! Not a great hand either way, but one is notably better than the other unless someone would literally take starvation over being in a show
I usually enjoy your reactions, but I feel like this one was a little bit to judgmental for me. I think everybody in this movie did amazing. The choreography, the music, the voices. I loved it! I really wish this movie got all the hype that it certainly deserved!
I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it came out! The opening scene with the greatest show song literally gave me chills
Hannah, the bartender is the *choreographer* for that song. He's brilliant.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have written songs for two of my favorite musicals of all time, Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman. Dear Evan Hansen is way better as a musical on stage than the movie version that came out in 2021.
Yeaah the movie was sooooo bad
@@sophielem59well now i have to go watch the musical bc ive only ever seen the movie!!
pure facts.
Have you checked out their previous works? Dogfight The Musical has quickly become a favorite of mine recently
@@TheWiseGrif I'm still purusing through their works
Fun fact to you asking if fire really spreads that fast. Ringling Bros actually had a circus fire in 1944. To make the big tent waterproof they covered it with a flameable wax. It was one of the worst fire disasters in american history and killed over a hundred people. 😢
This is the only musical where I love all the songs and have all of the o my playlist
Hugh Jackman playing characters who stole bread - he's been typecast 😆
You should react to Jeremy Jordan's one-man show clip where he explains how he actually saved The Greatest Showman (and got no recognition for it!). He also sings in it, so it's still relevant lol
Yassssssssss❤
Yes!!!
i really sorry that she doesn't speak about the vocal techniques and detail anymore. she is just reacting to the story and sometime say, she or he sounds grate. i miss when i could learn from her videos
*great.
Well. It is a reaction video. Not a review video
I thought the same 😅
@@keybordsmsh07 Except in her older _reaction_ videos she actually gave input on the vocal techniques, how the vocalist is, _and_ just reacted to the song asa whole. That's what some of subs want again.
@@keybordsmsh07she shouldnt put vocal coach reacts if she’s not gonna say much about the vocals. I think that’s what’s misleading people
16:12 You should see her performance at the 2018 Oscars when This Is Me was nominated for best original song, it was amazing and moving.
The sass is strong with this one
