I would argue the crisis started in 1948 in Costa Rica when the USA toppled Calderon and replaced him with Ferrer.
The USA has a long history of toppling democratic countries including Iran (1953), Congo (1960), Brasil (1961), Bolivia (1971), Chile (1973) etc. etc.
The truth is the USA does not care what government type a country has, as long as it does what the USA wants.
This explains its history of happily working with monarchies (Saudi Arabia), dictators (pick one from Central America) and democracies.

Title is global Democracy in Crises, but the opening topic is about Russia. The host keep bringing the panelist back to Russia while she is discussing about American and European democracies . Why don’t you talk about cancle culture and censorship that is developed in recent days in America and Europe? Shame!

Do you think being able to vote for two parties - both owned by billionaire Oligarchs - is democracy?

This group of social/ historians on democracies/worked in and around democracy and other types of, and different ideology regimes.
I enjoy the way they break things down, apply from past to present. Open your senses to what political is and how it affects you AND your life. That Democracy is participatory. A Team sport.
I have my radar turned for any of their discussions, IT gives me a healthy choice to keep being involved ideas for growth.
    So Thank to everyone!

Dr Timothy Snyder is so clearly a patient and methodical speaker l easily follow his thinking. I watch my mind gradually open into a deeper understanding as he talks. Its liberating.
    Thank you for this discussion.

Problem is America wants to push it's version of democracy.
America wants to push democracy for its self interest.
Why America is not pushing democracy in Saudi, UAE.
Why it supported Dictator Gen Zia of Pak during Afghan Soviet war.
Why America is supporting Sisi in Egypt.
Why don't you support democracy of Iran.
    Hypocrisy at its highest.

Nonsense. The US has no choice but to deal with most of the world as it is. Democracy is hard to do. Even here in the US, we now see how fragile our own democracy is. It cannot be imposed on people who don’t want it. Real democracy will never exist within an Islamic state, or any religious state for that matter.

This is not hypocrisy, this is world politics, i.e. interests.

What is D-Mock-Racy? America has its own unique System, where the Presidential Candidate with the majority Votes does not necessarily will become the President! There are not much Democratic Countries where the Prime Minister/President were Voted in with the majority.

The Fact that Wealthy Individuals appoint the names of Candidates for the average Voter,
seems to prove that the concept of Democracy does not come close to representing the needs of the Average Citizen.
The Investor Class appears to be about all who are represented by Elections in the US?

A massive fraud perpetrated by elites to enslave people trying to maintain their own cultural integrity, identity, and sovereignty independent of the degenerate West, especially Britain and the United States.

I think it’s a short way of saying the collection of Democratic countries (Democratically-elected and democratically-governed) that exist across the world. Many of them are facing similar problems right now

    • @florincoter1988
      @florincoter1988 2 года назад

@@jessikabat6200 I believe that your answer is both logic and serious. Thank you. English is not my mother tongue, please read slowly. What I understand now, about two years after I started to try to understand modern "democracies" is that democracy is fun, but not reliable. My first problem with democracy is that there are no democratic means to protect a democracy against anti democratic deeds. A democracy cannot protect itself, it must be protected. The second is, that it is required a deep understanding and commitment, conditions rarely met by general public. On the other hand, what appears to be the longest, on average the best and most stable political establishment in modern history is the American Republic. Democracy is mentioned neither in the Declaration of independence nor in the American Constitution. The founding fathers rejected on solid argumentation democracy, and the antique Greeks explained why democracy is the shortest way to tyranny. One aspect of the issue, not understood by many, is that a non democratic entity, like the American Republic, does not exclude democratic practices as a base for its functions. In fact the only thing guarantied is the free pursue of happiness, and system of liberties and rights that can make the pursue free. Democracy is easy to sell (no commitment, only free voting). Republicanism is hard to sell (commitment to a contract, free vote for what is allowed to be voted).
