For whatever reason, when you Google Eiichiro Oda, that picture of Eiji Aonuma always comes up...my bad (I've seen a lot of articles make that same mistake...we're all negligent idiots).
P.S. It's totally cool if we turn this comments section into an Emily Rudd appreciation thread.

Dont worry about backstory, there's multiple backstories to some character. They haven't shown everything and the character will keep growing. I dont want to spoil, but some back story you saw are only 30% of what happened before they join the crew. You will also get some unexpected backstory from unexpected side character who will become major character later on. Oda planned a lot of the story from the get go and the world evolves around the crew with outside events happening.

Glad you enjoyed the live action!
I have been a fan since 2003 and i'm convinced it is one of the greatest stories ever told so far. I'm honestly so happy to see so many people getting to know One Piece as it has brought so many amazing feelings and memories to me. But i also do recognize the issue with pacing in anime and luckily it honestly starts getting bad like 500 episodes in(anime kept catching up to manga) only so until then a lot of the stories are well paced. One piece does have one of the least amount of fillers compared to the story, only 9% (94 episodes filler out of 1084 episodes of anime).
But One Piece isnt about the ending, its about the journey. That's why to the people who want to go fast, i recommend manga. But whoever wants in on the boatride, its anime through and through. Also interesting to see the evolution of animationstyle throughout the story from 1999's until now.
If you do plan on watching some of the anime, i want to give a small heads up: Anime Luffy is a bit different from live action one. In anime he is portrayed a bit more goofy than optimistic. Some people were taken aback a bit because he comes off very brash and not caring. (My personal opinion is that he just lacks social skills)
Also to get the best experience of anime, i recommend original japanese audio with subtitles, mostly because the english dubbing company wasnt really doing their best with translations and left out tons of context, jokes and puns. The voice actress for Luffy is Mayumi Tanaka and her performance is one of the reasons people love Luffy.

I really love your takes on One Piece Live Action!!
I do wish to point out, in case it was not a joke that went over my head, that that photo is not of Eiichiro Oda, but of Eiji Aonuma.

Total negligence on my part. For whatever reason, when you Google Eiichiro Oda, that picture of Zelda creator Eiji Aonuma always comes up...I'm even finding other youtubers using that picture as well. Apologies to Mr. Oda - I'll just blame it on me being a Normie. Thanks for the heads up!

@@BingeBuffoon Yeah, pretty funny mistake, I think. Oda himself is not really eager to show his face due to his popularity, so we know him as a guy with a fish in place of head these days.
      Great review btw)))

I like that they adjusted the tone of this adaptation too. Obviously the story was changed a bit with every arc but one thing I really liked was that they stayed true to the source material. For example, Garps introduction other than being a big reveal didn't hamper or thwart the characters from their main goal. The fact Garp was always out of reach of catching the straw hats showed that he had little influence to the overall story so far, and he shouldn't since he isn't really introduced until much later. He was pretty much used a filler for episodes. I loved the acting, it wasn't cringe at all, not like half these marvel shows and movies coming out. One piece live adaptation wasn't over the top but funny enough and dramatic enough to give people a taste of the flavor of the show. It only gets deeprer from here while still maintaining the humor and splice of life scenes many of us of come to love. The crew is family.
Minor details to the arcs for me:
Zoros arc is pretty much what we see except they left out some details regarding his friend.
Sanjis arc could have been another 2-3 episodes had they brought in Don Krieg as a minor antagonist but that would bring up the the budget and production to a much a higher level considering what happens during that arc. Overall, Don Krieg doesn't matter later on.
Namis arc was different in how she became an along pirate. I think bigger budget, the writers would probably have opted for the original story(which I'll keep spoiler free). However, in the end, the message was still conveyed pretty much the same.
Usopps arc was the biggest difference is how is was shown and I semi liked it. The arc is slow and uneventful other than meeting Catman and his crew, lol. I still think Merry being killed off seemed pointless as he never died in the first place so if Oda gave the ok, that actually might tell anime/manga viewers that he has no importance to the story after that arc.
Other than that, I loved Buggy, he's exactly how I imagined he'd be in real life. I'm curious on how they will progress his story line after next season and if the writers are thinking about using the cover stories for filler space in each episode or something.

IGN Rating, really? I don't see any credibility from media who's only capital is their subjective opinion. I'd rather consider the 95% audience rating on rotten tomatoes because at least that came from thousands of real people.

Yeah, that's a valid take..people do not watch OnePiece for the fights, they are there, but characters are the core strength here, and their journies leading upto the fight and conclusions. The Payoffs✨
