It sounds like he’s saying: if you don’t have elite genetics why even try to look good? Just get fat and strong. Probably not the best advice (coming from a fan of the program).
the point is that you can look 'bulky' in a shirt if you have strong forearms, traps and shoulders, all which come from the compound lifts of the SS program. There is a difference between fat and bulky. Even in the worst case scenario, 20%BF *after* you finished the linear progression, you look good.
I wear 80s style "half shirts" to the gym that show my belly, so my abs are a priority. I just need to do something about the fat over them. Please advise, Rip. Thanks.
Who the hell is saying only to do curls and flys? Do they still print magazines? You are not going to get your strongest or biggest doing a minimalist program like starting strength. Your will eventually have to add in more volume along with some isolation movements.
Add 5, UNTIL IT STOPS WORKING. Do people really listen? Or just come biased, lets trash Rip. Do you know the books have intermediate and advanced programming? And that at some point in advance STRENGTH training, you have to find what works for you, get a coach or whatever... And that is probably less then 1% of people training strength that will ever get to that level? Until there add 5. Or change and unnecessarily put complexity into something simple. (that will to sell templates, the really good ones, better then everybody else's) Or do your rpe nonsense (for a novice or intermediate lifter). Even people training consistently for 2-3 years know what their body is capable of...
SS was meant to be run for a limited period of time, ideally by an untrained person so they can fully maximize novice gains. Once you attain a reasonable level of strength, which can vary, but AT LEAST a double BW squat is a good standard, then you can discontinue the program and do other things depending on your goals and needs. But you need to build a solid strength base first because it translates well to all of these other activities, and you gives you a decent return on investment in time and food. This is explained at a SS seminar. Rip even said you can go into bodybuilding after his program.
Weird speech. You might not have the genetics to be a bodybuilding champ. But if you get lean while following a standard bodybuilding routine, you can look great.
An honest fitness magazine would tell you how to be legally prescribed steroids, give safe cycle recommendations, and how to discern your monthly blood work.
An honest one would tell you how to actually train. You don't need to go on gear to get big unless you want to be 270+ but most morons have no clue how to do it and the idiots on yt are not much help for natural lifters.
They should do a video about lateral raises. Most important here is to bring the pinky finger up at the top of the movement! This way you get banana delts for sure. You can do that seated, too. IMO the most important exercise of all next to tricep kickbacks.
The contempt for even the idea of aesthetics as a worthwhile goal. If I can’t look like frank zane I shouldn’t even try?! Gain 30lbs of what? His method will get you bigger, but mostly fatter! Noobs grow muscle with almost any protocol, health is dramatically improved by even minimal training. Why get fuckin fat?
Not just genetics. Roids and Peds and diuretics and lot of very hard work at the gym. Plus lighting and good camera angles. and feeling terrible going below 10% bf of course.
Errr, where else can a bicep insertion go to but the forearm? Am I missing something here? Also the 'genetics of a fitness model' is strange way of saying take a lot of steroids?!
Where it inserts on the forearm. If it is lower down the forearm you have long insertions which is needed for huge mass and strength but bad for making a peak.

Well according to Rip, don't bother even trying to train for speed and power you'll never be as fast as you Usain bolt, don't bother training for aesthetics you'll never look like an elite bodybuilder. Why even bother training for strength if I'm never going to be as strong as elite powerlifters? There is a hint of truth is What he is saying but so much dogma. There are a lot of valuable exercises for improving hypertrophy and aesthetics other than squat deadlift bench and press. Doesn't it get old being so dogmatic?
I think his whole point is that speed and power can't really be trained to the degree that strength can. Like you aren't going to be able to ever jump 2x higher than what you can now or run 100m 2x faster . But you can probably get 2x stronger in a reasonably short amount of time. And as for aesthetics I can't remember the guy but he cited a case study and high reps low weight and low reps high weight both with progressive overload showed the same results with muscle growth, but low reps got people stronger. I'll try to find the source
I boycott my old gym in Montreal because of their vax pass nazi papers demands. I live in a condo, own 2x45lb kettlebells, one 70lb kettlebell, and a pull-up bar installed by the city in the park. Training for aesthetics is all I got, man. Sorry, not everyone lives in Texas and owns a gym with virtually unlimited weights. If I can’t be fat and strong, all I have left is to be ripped and shredded.
@@jonathand9682 different people train differently, for different needs. A fat guy will never be able to sprint at 40% body fat, no matter how strong he is.
