During highschool and college i was around 140lbs at 6 feet. Got no respect even though i wasn't totally sendentary, i played some sports, could do some bodyweight stuff, but in comparison to everyone i was small af. Now i'm around 180lbs and see and feel a huge difference in how others behave. If theres someone skinny with similar problems, don't hesitate, get bigger and stronger.

I agree. My world changed when I gained weight. I was initially sceptical about doing it through fear of bec fat. But it's the best decision I ever made. I went from 155lb to 230lb. The way in which people spoke to me changed completely. Sure, I don't have a six pack, but who gives a shit when you're walking around wearing a t-shirt all day?

In these days of rampant obesity, diabetes etc being big is not impressive. The fit 160-200lb male will shine and not be branded as big dumbo. Different environments, different values. It’s nuanced.

Yes, but short guys will never have the opportunity to be in any regard considered big. A 220 lb 5 foot 7 little guy will just look like a cute little fella who is overcompensating. Meanwhile, a guy at the same weight at 6 foot 1 will not give that same impression.

I'm 5'7" and 200 lbs and people always think I'm bigger and taller than I am. More specifically when I was a freshman in college I was 135 lbs. I can tell you the difference between the way people react to you between 135 lbs and 200 in shape is very different....so no at 5'7" you are never gonna be a huge guy but you fill out your frame you'll always be better off than if you didn't. Just my two cents as someone who is that height and did gain 65 lbs over time by eating and lifting.

An army ranger named grunt proof actually was the one who brought starting strength to my attention, if you train like a soldier and also incorporate the starting strength program I believe you will be a unit, train the starting strength program 3 times a week, and in between those rest days you run and you ruck and you do battle drills, you absolutely will get combat ready.

@ciswhitemalewithextraprivi7898 what does that even matter? I never said I was even training specifically for strength. I train hard and progressively overload sure but am I a strength athlete no. My point was that bigger isn’t ALWAYS better. If you think anyone gives a shit what’s on the bar at the gym then your sadly mistaking. I’d rather be fit, somewhat strong, and look good rather then be a fat ass who thinks numbers on the bar impresses anyone

Following Rip logic the Power Clean is not necessary, nor is it a "normal human movement pattern," but he still holds it to be necessary, albeit with the caveat that one can get too old to perform it safely, which clearly ought to inform Rip, using his own logic, why it is not a necessary movement. The squat, deadlift, bench, press, and row are normal human movement patterns that span all ages -- the power clean does not, and I'd say it takes more than it gives in any program regardless of age; that block of time would be better spent with a row or possibly even better, a straight-leg deadlift. "Explosive" movements are not for strength training, nor should they be performed with conventional weights. The application of explosiveness should be a display of one's strength, etc, under one's own body-weight in the performance of athletics, not in a training gym. Separating the two modes of performance is more practical. Quit wasting people's time and money on the bullshit power clean.
A woman with Double D's should not be doing power cleans, nor is the bench press a proper movement for a female when it concerns pectoral, tricep, and anterior delt strength. Many people want to lump both sexes into the same training modes, where clearly there are movements better suited to one over the other, as nature intended. Imagine that! Male & Female have not just chemical and biological differences, but mechanical and physical ones that change the way they function in their everyday existence. This is also why "mixed" training sessions (male & female) are not just sub-optimal but hinder both sexes from reaching their potential. It's not money well spent to be in a mixed, instructor led training session for either.
