      @@tommyharris5817 well, I have very shortened harmstrings, and I have no problem with doing their version of squat, btw I had low back problems for decades before, I don't have them now. And it's the least stressful for my knees, but anyway, I'm not an expert, it just has been my experience.

    • @tommyharris5817
      @tommyharris5817 3 года назад +1

      @@zoranmatic8329 That's good to hear. I tried the Rippetoe squat style but hated it and found the 'traditional' high bar style with hips moving forward on the ascent more comfortable and natural. I think all squatting methods are fine as long as the pelvis doesn't round at the bottom.

    • @elchapo2790
      @elchapo2790 3 года назад

      @@tommyharris5817 the problem with squatting that way is that it’s a more knee dominant movement with the majority of the load places on the knees. Chance this can create knee tendonitis in the long run especially if increasing the weight
      Rippetoes squat shifts the load onto the syringe structures of the hips (centre of the body) knee problems are then virtually non existent
      You don’t wanna have knee replacements in 40s

    • @tommyharris5817
      @tommyharris5817 3 года назад

      @@elchapo2790 I disagree. I know many people who squat as I do (I'm in my 40s) and never had knee or back problems; some are squatting heavy and are in their 60s. They also do not have back pain, unlike Rippetoe. Stick to what feels right for you as long as you don't round your pelvis at the bottom.

It doesnt matter if you want to be a bodybuilder, competitive powerlifter, or physique competitor...first reach that 315 bench, 405 squat, and 495 deadlift, then you are in a much better position to reach whatever your goal is. Actually your body is designed to walk and to climb inclinations while alternating left and right sides and the body is also designed with the act of pulling being over three times more predominant than pushing. The bench press which is lying on one's back on a narrow bench for support with metal uprights to hold and stack a weight over you that you could not naturally get into that position and press it for reps has nothing to do with a natural movement or how the body is designed to move.

    I think what Ripp says is partially true. Don't agree 100%, I think the body grows as a whole but certain body parts don't respond/ grow as much as the progression on the exercise. You can see a lot of videos of people deadlifting a house that don't have noticeable arms or back. The same for the bench, especially if you look at powerlifting. To me, some direct, isolation work, has ti be done maybe not kikbacks for triceps but close grip bench and bb rows for the back. You can grow with the big 4 untill a certain point but then you stop because it's almost impossible to add such an amount of weight that keeps you growing more. You strain to add 5kg in several years and that won't make you look bigger.

    Starting strength is good for ...start training. When you're an intermediate and move heavier loads you gotta change something and add some new lift also isolation stuff. You cannot become stronger and stronger if you don' t live in the gym and have a normal, tiring, family. life. When you find yourself lifting the same old weights over and over it' s time to change. My opinion of course.

      "Starting strength is good for ...start training. When you're an intermediate and move heavier loads you gotta change something"
      The book already says this. The Starting Strength Novice Linear Progression is precisely what it sounds like - a program for novice lifters. Nobody has ever claimed otherwise, despite attempts to beat the straw out of the strawman.
      "add some new lift also isolation stuff"
      Well this is just silly. You don't need to add new lifts. You don't need to add isolation stuff. You need to change how you program the main lifts when you reach the intermediate phase, and perhaps add some assistance (not isolation) work if necessary to meet specific training goals.
      If other lifts succeeded at making you stronger as an intermediate, then you'd be doing those other lifts from the beginning. Novices train the same lifts as intermediates, just on a different programming schedule.

      @@OneSingleBreath I've done it for many years, but, sooner or later you'll get to a point where this is not possible, even manipulating all the variables. So, to me, it' s stupid to insist on a gjven exercise. Take the press fir example, I can press 80kg. (1RM) and, since my age and weight, it is not possible to add more weight. And, if I could, that would be tiny and it would require a hell of a time. It' s not worth it.I won' t be so much stronger. Maybe progressing on another exercise would be a better option.

Italy and South Africa for example has seen abnormal snow fall. The Sahara Dessert has seen snow fall two years in a row. Even many in the South west US have reported below normal temps. It is a scientific FACT that we are headed into a Grand Solar Minimum which is sending Globe into a cooling period. More lives have been lost due to extreme cold Globally than warming. The ice caps are growing presently, not shrinking. Which has show to be cyclical anyway. They shrink any expand all the time, not to mention we're still coming out of an ice age. Thing is, we're actually headed back into an ice Age due to the aforementioned Grand Solar Minimum.

      Please reread Jeremy's comment that just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it isn't happening. Some regions of the world will experience more extreme cold as sea currents shut down, that's why they changed it from global warming to climate change. Also your statement about the ice caps is pure nonsense the Arctic sea ice is less every year

    • @stevenfoulger6066
      @stevenfoulger6066 3 года назад +1

      @@lachmyster The reason why some regions are seeing warm trends and some are seeing (extreme) cold is due to the jet streams being off kilter. Guess what drives jet streams.... THE SUN! Over all the Earth is experiencing extreme cooling. As I said before, we're at the beginning of a Grand Solar Minimum. The sun is one of the main drivers of our weather and climate with solar minimums and maximums in a cycle of about 11 years due to it's magnetic field. Grand Solar Minimums are on 400 year cycle. Arctic sea ice expands and contracts on a cycle. In recent history the "Experts" have been saying the Arctic will be free of ice in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018, and guess what.....it's still there. In fact, this past February saw the fastest growing sea ice since 1997, then this summer it started to melt a bit as per usual. Now it's growing again. I'm willing to bet you've never heard of the Grand Solar Minimum cycle before now. Also willing to bet you've never heard of the Milankovitch Cycles either
