@@colinwalters5281 Thanks for the advice and encouragement Colin. I guess that in any pursuit you have to step over known boundaries. So far with watercolours I've been playing it fairly safe, working with subjects that I'm familiar with. Now's the time to try new techniques. I've now looked a few more of your video lessons and enjoyed them. I'll let you know how I get on.

Why put animals and boats especially boats into paintings so unnatural

Simply because the painting depicts a man in the wilderness,the man in the canoe is also very understated and supports the composition ,Hope that helps
