I find I want to paint in all medians. The learning knowledge from you is concise and enjoyable. I find waters less forgiving so I try to soak up every edition. Thank you and God Bless
I’m relatively new to watercolor and newer still to Mind of Watercolor. I can’t do what you do but you give me lots of ideas to try out, to try again and to try yet again. Thank you. You are a blessing!
This is the fourth of your videos that I have watched today- a lazy at home day. They are relaxed, informative and well described. They make me feel like I could be happy painting with any of your techniques. Thank you.
Another great example of you demonstrating control of the paper, moisture, timing and brush strokes as you apply well chosen colors. Seeing how you then watch the colors settle into the fibers until the right dampness allow brush strokes that remain, creating the suggestions of foliage parts by steering color & lifting space & mist. Much of the foreground appears to have been slowly brush-drawn with layers of round, liner & rigger strokes. It's always informative & inspirational to watch you work.
Thankyou so much showing how to such beautiful fog effect mountain side forest. Loved it.i would really appreciate if you could show how to water colour paint fir or pine trees.
Just begging my water colour journey. I am an amateur doodle person. I live on a boat in the Pacific northwest Canada. Looking forward to trying this. I've seen dozens of videos. You are my FAVORITE 👍💖
I live on the west coast of British Columbia ,Canada and the mist on the mountains and through treeline ect.. leaves me with alot of inspiration for this technique ! your painting looks like what I see outside my windows in the winter. I sure love the Bristol brush you used to get the mist/fog look. thank you Steve for a gorgeous painting! Heather
I love the way you changed the position of the focal point and designed your painting around that. Your choice of colours is stunning. A really neat little painting. Thanks for sharing your talent.
When you first start it looks like a mess then it is beautiful when finished. The best tutorial! I get frustrated because I think oh no! He messed up but my landscapes are awful! I'm learning so I just need to try ! I'm in love with this one!
Love it. You either forgot or skipped how you painted the sky. Also curious why you did the sky wash toward the end. Very nice work. I also loved how you detailed the tall fir trees with boughs first and less trunks. Cool
Thanks so much my friend. I’m not a huge landscape person but got a request for a Christmas present and wanted some pointers. I’ve always wanted to recreate misty pines and you did great.
Recent subscriber here. Really enjoyed this video. Nice to know about some of your techniques but also your repairs -- that aquapaper at the end for example.
So great. I'm new to watercolor and painting in general. I've watched tons of videos so far. You're my favorite watercolor artist and I have already learned tons from you. Thanks! Beautiful painting.
Wow! Awesome picture. But I'm also interested in the stand that you used because I'm looking for a stand and/or baseboard for myself. Plus any other information on this would be great
Thanks!! You make it look so easy..... Do you have any suggestions for painting eucalyptus trees? I’m Australian and we don’t really have many of these scenes. Thanks again.
Well all trees are really just masses and value shapes. Study the over all shape of the tree and the shape of the values clumps with in that overall shape. Details are best left to edges.
I like your philosophy about keeping on painting 😀 I do the same and my mantra is ‘don’t quit!' always finish the painting/drawing, even if it feels like it’s failing 👍 Lovely demonstration btw, I love how bold the foreground colours are!
Beautiful video! I gave it a try and was able to create some of the misty effect. I need much more practice to get the trees to be more naturally blended in. But as you say "just keep painting"! Your videos are so encouraging. I will keep trying this with a couple of my own photos, but thank you for helping me to get a start with creating mist/fog in my paintings!
Hi, Steve,I just recently found you online and I am really getting a lot out of your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I was wondering if you ever use sponges to create effects in your watercolours and if so, could you show is how you use them? Thanks again.
This was very helpful. I have been struggling with some illustration and design work in this theme. Looking forward to doing studies applying the techniques demonstrated. Thank you!
I have so enjoyed watching and learning from you. Thanks so much for making such great videos. I'm just wondering about the cool looking bristle brush, what brand is it and is there any special purpose for the nifty handle shape? Other than looking really spiffy when you paint ;) Secondly, can you explain a little about the fine line oiler bottles, where can I get them? And finally the aqua cover is it water color version of white out- I'm really impressed that it hid the scratched paper, so where can I get this ? I just want to be able to write a detailed wish list.
The brushes were designed by artist Sterling Edwards. The curved area is to rest between forefinger and thumb. I've put links to Aqua Cover and the Oiler bottle in the video description. Aqua Cover is a gouache like, opaque, waterbased cover up that replicates the color of the paper. You can buy it for natural or bright white Arches paper. Also available to match Fabriano papers.
Beautiful painting. I wish you would have showed how you worked that white correction in the picture. That would have been very informative. Your instruction has truly been very helpful. Thanks so much. 🙂
I just finished a watercolor landscape on Fluid 100 watercolor paper (140# hot press). The painting came out fairly nice but when I went to remove the frisket I had placed on the paper (wanted those areas to remain white to give the appearance of snow) I discovered the frisket came off along with the top layer of paper. In some places even some of the painted areas came off. When I went to remove the architectural tape I had placed along the edges of the paper in order to maintain a quarter inch border the tape also removed the top layer of paper. This has never happened to me before when I used other papers and the same frisket and tape. I’m not a happy camper! I can use this painting as a practice round, but that means more work on a sort time frame. Today I sent an email to Speedball Art to let them know about this. Hopefully, I will get a reply tomorrow. I told them this 9” X 12” block will be reserved for field sketches in watercolor and practice paper in my studio. BTW, I really like your Foggy Misty Mountains work. I will give it a whirl tomorrow on my Fluid 100 paper. -OkieSketcher1949
It's a problem with several brands. I usually pre-test mask and tape if its a new brand I'm trying. If I know the tape may tear, a hair dryer or heat tool will soften it and prevent tearing as you peel the tape.
@@mindofwatercolor That is good to know. I’ve never felt I needed to test a paper/tape/frisket before this. They have always worked. Speedball sent me a chart to show they do test various tapes when used on their products. The chart was not all that helpful. The line for the paper I used. Has a column for 24 hours and 1 week. Under both headings one finds a “2”. I do not know if that means 2 tears per 1,000 sheets tested or 2 successful removals without an issue. I’ve asked for a reply. In the mean time, I will use this paper to test new colors or to sketch on with pencil. It will not be used for pictures I intend to give away or sell. Thank you for the reply and helpful hint. If nothing else happens I will continue watching your programs. I am slowly going through all the ones I have missed over the years. I have several hours of an enjoyable series of lessons before me. Thanks again. - OkieSketcher1949
Beautiful as always, thanks Steve! You are such a great artist, and so methodical in your explanations, I feel very lucky to have found your channel. :-)
Just beautiful - colors are so MAGNIFICENT
Those 2 trees really did something to finish the composition. Its that inspiration that I'm not sure practice will give me. Thanks Steve
👍
Love that the videos are there for a reference, even years later. Thanks Steve

Always enjoy watching your videos. Beautiful picture!
Thanks Charlie!

I wish you had shown the streak in the sky. But, wow I want to have such results!

Skies can be put in anytime if they don't encroach on the landscape.
We’ve just been in your neck of the woods at the Biltmore. Got some great photos of the fog in the mountains. Can’t wait to get home and try this!
Awesome. A favorite place of ours. Have fun with the fog.
With Florence coming in, we hope you are safe. Praying for you!
Thank you, just rain for us I think.
Lovely painting, Steve. Thank you for so generously sharing your masterful skill of watercolor painting. It's a joy to watch you paint!

The easel came from Hobby Lobby. Only about $30.
I just love watching your videos so much. I haven’t painted in a long while but you have inspired me to get going again. Thank you!
Cracking talent!
You're awesome. I'm a newbie and will try this.

I will try this one soon, I enjoyed this very much thank you.
I would have loved to have seen how you made that 'fix' with the Aquafluid.
Same here, dunno about that stuff, seems a lot of people in reviews didn't think highly of it so wondered how Steve got it to work so well.
I understood so much more watching this morning. I hope I'm improving somehow some way. Thank you.
Gorgeous and inspiring piece.
👍
Awesome work!
Thanks very nice, did you tape the edges? and you did not mention when you put the sky in what colors did you use. Was very helpful
Thank you! Yes, edges taped. Colors are listed in the description.
great painting

Exactly. Whats the worst that could happen? You might learn something? Who knows. Thanks Gee.
thanks! I have been working on fog effects too. this was helpful:)
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich cool! Thanks Lindsay, glad to hear it.
hey! good to see you here in the comment section. I have been watching you both and glad that one artist is helpful to another

I'm so glad you were able to repair the scratch from that fine-tip bottle. That just made me sick to see that scratch on your lovely painting!
Yeah it worked out. No matter. I've ruined paintings before.
Thank U, Mind. Now I know more ideas for painting mist.

When you put in the second tree (@ 11:18) did you use the same color as the first or lighten it down?
same basic color.
Beautiful as always, thanks Steve! You are such a great artist, and so methodical in your explanations, I feel very lucky to have found your channel. :-)
Very helpful, as always. Your videos are so entertaining, informative, and down to earth. :) Thanks for all the effort you put into these.
You bet!
Loved your video..
