  • The Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of our favourite new executive sedans, competing with the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. But can the Italians build a serious C-Class rival you can live with every day? Tom spends a week in Sydney with the Giulia 200PS / 147kW petrol to start finding out.
    Would you consider the Giulia? Do you like the way this Alfa sedan looks? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

    it's worth mentioning that alfa is still sticking to those signature v grill in front of all of its cars and still makes them look damn cool and proportionate to the overall design

    I have the 2017 Ti Q4. I love it! I did, however, immediately replace the run flat tires with the all season performance Pilot Sport AS3+. I have absolutely no complaints about ride quality now. And those tires are much stickier than stock, so the handling is better too. Highly recommend anyone buying this car, swap out the run flats. Just get yourself a flat repair kit to be safe. Enjoy!

    Excellent fact based opinion. Didn't miss a thing. I agree, the safety kit is serious omission, then again, it astounds me how BMW and Audi charge for this as well. Merc seems to have latched on to the must have active safety with their new A class. True an Alfa shouldn't have a diesel. Truly enjoy your in depth reviews Tom. Keep up the good work.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your kind remarks. Yes, it's interesting tracking the developments in adaptive safety -- in many ways, the mainstream brands have led the way by flicking the switch and making everything standard (Mazda, increasingly Hyundai, etc). As NCAP five-star ratings get tougher, we'll see less of a patchwork here.

    • @dinopappous6639
      @dinopappous6639 5 лет назад +1

      I don't get what "safety kit" is omitted on this car....I have autonomous braking , lane departure warning (which I shut off), Rear Cross Warning (if a car or object passes behind me while I'm backing up), BLIS warning ? And I have them on both my Giulia Quad and Stelvio Ti Sport....More than enough "interference" from the car thank you...I am still capable of driving myself !!

    The navigation screen is a bit to close to the driver and the mirrors as well (I have this mirror distance issue in my 159 also), (I'm 1.72cm).
    One thing I noticed immediately was the sporty building of the car, on the passenger side is very noticeable that our head is very close to the window or the roof bar, entering the car in the back is almost gymnastic and my feet almost didn't feet under the front seat. Oh yes, there are still plenty of "Alfa things" :) but I would say the biggest drawback is the price.
    I drove the veloce diesel with 210bhp. I'm not used to the shift pedals but the few I tried don't even get close to this ones, they are really good and nice to handle. I didn't notice the 210bhp, I'm always demanding more power from my 150bhp SW 159 diesel and still I didn't feel any huge power and accelerating (I did not push it to extremes though).
    I love the leather interior and the car feels solid. The trunk is kind of small, is very wide but very low.
    About the leather quality or not, my 159 has leather seats and they pretty good, why? The car is 10 years old, and only the driver seat has some wear marks. The passenger and back seats look like new and they are regularly used, compared to let's say.. bmw leather seats or even tesla, I would say my alfa seats are pretty good.
    Although the "N" mode driving is... acceptable, I would drive the car mostly in "D" mode, that's the only option the car feels good while driving. Is nice to have real speed dials and not digital ones :)
    can't say much more from a 20min limited experience, the car is all sporty, is expensive to buy and expect to be expensive to maintain, but I would by one. Damm it, I love the car! :)

    I was in love with my Giulia and Alfa Romeo as a brand, however, I will never again buy/recommend another Alfa Romeo in my life. I had the brake by wire system fail on me and it caused me to crash and total the car. They sent someone from Bosch to diagnose the vehicle and in the charts it clearly showed that something malfunctioned (brakes were slammed 2 seconds before the impact at 40 MPH and it took more than 1.5 seconds for the speed to start going down.) Stellantis told me that they were not going to take responsibility for it and that I needed to have my insurance pay for the vehicle. Absolute garbage. I will never recommend this car brand to anyone again!

    How on earth is having the start/stop-button on wheel cool?
    The wheel should have those essentials you need when driving in a everyday setting ie. buttons for navigation and the audio system and that is it. One only needs the start/stop-button twice for every drive and never in an on road situation, so I would say having it on the wheel is not cool.

      The Alfa's an interesting car but with respect, in Australia they're not a popular brand, and they do have to compete with those cars. Some sales numbers so far in 2018:
      Giulia - 490
      C-Class - 4079
      3 Series - 2473
      A4 - 1201
