Damn straight. They are like Toyotas in reliability but with a bit of soul, they drive great, look and feel more premium than most mainstream cars - like VW but actually reliable. Australians have done a good job, Mazda has long been number 2 to fleet boosted Toyota sales. The Americans still have a love affair with Honda - which is fine if they actually sent us their best cars not the outdated crap Hondas we get here - no wonder their sales have been declining over the last decade.

    The AWD system:
It just has a rear diff ratio that’s 1.1% taller than the front diff ratio, so when the rear axle is engaged it spins 1.1% faster than the front axle does. So that also means when the rear axle is disengaged, the propellor shaft will be spinning 1.1% faster than the rear diff’s input, so the backlash is always taken up.
Overspending the rear axle also helps to make the thing feel more rear-driven, and the Mk3 Focus RS also had the rear axle slightly ‘oversped’

We pick up our new Akera next week. It is identical to the test car i.e. Soul Red and Turbo. It is replacing a nearly 7 year old 2015 Akera (also Soul Red) that my wife loves. Our only real disappoint about the new Akera is a lack of any options on the interior finish, options that seem to be available in other markets. Our existing has White Leather, which has held up very well.
Our Mazda has been virtually trouble free, just a couple of recall items that got addressed straight away. We replaced the original Tyres a year or so ago with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUVs and we would highly recommend them. They are quite noticeably better than the stock Toyos.
It wasn't mentioned, but one of the upsides of the turbo motor in our opinions is it doesn't have Cylinder deactivation. I don't know of any manufacturers that have successfully introduced a Deactivation system that has true long term durability and reliability.
We think the CX5 design is quite ageless. It has changed little but still looks good and fresh. I think the new Outlander looks hideous. it looks like just another bloated American market focussed vehicle.

      @daves5988 2 года назад +1

@@daweigo6851 No, Cylinder deactivation happens on the open road when the engine load is low. Basically they mechanically close off half the valve train so the engine is only running on half its cylinders. It is a fuel saving strategy. The problem is the extra complexity needed and the fact the camshaft, rockers etc are being varied mechanically which adds additional failure points. There are lots of videos on u Tube showing why it is a bad idea long term.

At the end of the day, the late 2021 update CX-5 is merely a further progression and extension of the original Mazda Minagi concept which was revealed way back in March 2011. So, the ‘KX’ CX-5 platform is very much a creation of the 2010s.
For those who are not in a rush to buy a compact Mazda SUV, one would perhaps be better served to wait for the next model. However, a true KX successor has not even been sighted in testing. So, who knows what Mazda’s plans are for the CX-5 for the middle part of the 2020s?
If nothing else, the CX-5 serves the needs of those who want a truly compact SUV which is only 455cm long. As let’s face it, the new Mitsubishi Outlander GN at 471cm is too long for a good many of people. Especially for couples with no kids or only one child.

@@MichaelElms Kia? It wasn’t so long ago that Kia was for those who could not stretch their finances for a Japanese car. Even back in the 2000s, Kia was the sponsor of the prestigious Australian Open. So, you had very financially successful grand slam tennis players standing next to a budget Kia, which was rather odd at the time.
Oh well, that is marketing and consumer psychology for you. Perceptions are just not forever, which can change over time. For those under 30, 2000s history and culture just does not matter at all.

I drive a SUV for work and love how it handles speed humps. How does the CX-5 handle speed humps? I'm seriously considering swapping over as the CX5 Akera and the M6 Atenza have the exact same features and interior.

We opted for the 2022 CX5 AWD GT Turbo, just below the Akera but with the same engine specs. Had just over a month now. Things I love about it - the heads up display, very quiet inside the cabin, loads of pull from the engine and a great infotainment system. The seats are very comfortable and the memory function is great as my wife and I share the car. Things that aren't so great - it only has a 58L fuel tank so I'm having to go to the petrol station a lot more than I like, the electric boot is a bit slow to open and there are no shopping hooks (seriously!). I also find it really annoying that when I shut the engine off the accessories go off too, so I can't keep listening to the radio if I'm waiting to pick someone up without pressing the start button again to start the accessories. I hope their is a way, but the Mazda person didn't seem to know.

Great in depth review. This helped to solidify my decision to get this over a RAV4, CRV, or VW Taos. I want something practical but also fun to drive. I'm getting the Turbo but one trim down, which I actually prefer as the wheels and trim are black, as well as the front grill having black chrome(and the little red bit in the grill which lets people know I mean business, lol). The only thing I'd want from this trim is the upgraded leather but I'll survive. The fact this has a heated steering wheel and ventilated seats was huge, I also love the fact it's got remote start via the app(which wasn't discussed here so maybe that's just a US thing). So pumped to get mine this week!

Seems it much have disappeared when they went to the longer/lower screen 😥 Pleased I got the version I have. I love the car it's a great drive. The rear seats are ALWAYS in the down position as I do lots of carrying of gear in the back ( no kids to worry about) I have only 2 complaints about the car.
#1 a significant safety thing -- Fan speed buttons use require taking eyes off the road to use them. They are small and located low down. Should have been a better placed rotary knob for ease of use and no eyes leaving the road.
#2 the hinge section of the drivers seat, on the right side, digs into my upper right thigh and gets freakin uncomfortable on longer trips. I have had to put in cushioning under the seat fabric/padding to try and ease the problem ( partly successful)
Other than those 2 things, it's an awesome car and would buy another CX5 any day ( switched from multiple Toyota cars over many years)
I/m tall, around 6'2 to 6'3 and trying to find a car that has both head and leg room for me is difficult. The CX5 was spot on. Toyota could no longer compete cheers, Dave

When there is turbo petrol, why would you want diesel? Turbo's were only introduced to diesel variants because if there were no turbo's the diesel would be a laggy dog of a dangerous engine. Combine turbo with a petrol and you get the punchiness and smiles as you see in this vid. Forget diesel, that's for trucks.

can car manufacturers stop putting features irrelevant to the Australian market (such as heated seats and steering wheel) on cars sold here?
