People say BO2 has the best campaign cause of Menéndez. But something about the setting of BO1 makes it far better imo. The interrogation, the brainwashed mind of mason, reliving his past, the goddamn numbers, his delusional self thinking he was with someone the entire time when he wasn’t, The ending. An absolute mind fuck when everything unfolded and we found out the truth. This campaign was and still is legendary.
Yeah, I remember people saying that about BO2, but I never really understood why they felt that way. I think they're both great but BO1's story is much better. The writing was much tighter and built up to that amazing twist ending!
Now as an engineering student I can confidently say. The SR-71 mission planted the seed for an interest in aerospace. Definitely a core contribution to who I am today. It’s a shame to know this kind of passion in video games is so few and far between
I didn’t have that at all honestly. I was totally blindsided by the ending cause I believed everything Mason was saying until the truth was revealed lol
I think the Kowloon city is pretty cool, it’s a real place and on Google you can see the spots that you fought through in the mission but in real life and it’s nice
I might change my mind as I got through all these old games, but MW2 (2009) is up there for me personally lol Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it! :)

Someone with 350 subscribers does not need to be posting a video this high quality. I'm seriously impressed with this and mind blown about the Mason Oswald fact, I never knew about it and im speechless
I feel like developers have run out of goodwill with people in terms of multiplayer. Microtransactions and fomo but also just the fact that the basic formula for cod multiplayer hasn't changed for almost 17 years. Which is why i think so many are going back to singleplayer games and re-evaluating or re-experiencing campaigns from as an older and more artistically capable version of themselves. Imagine the feedback from the community if they were able to make a great game with a solid player base with NO microtransactions or $20 skin packs or $25 tracer packs...we'd all just be playing the game again. That'd be nice
Black Ops 1 has got to be my favorite COD game. It has influenced my taste in aesthetic and game design so much more than I might have initially realized. Everything from the campaign to the multiplayer and OH MY GOD the zombies were all just a chef's kiss that deserves 100% of the nostalgia I get from it. It's one of the deepest campaigns in the whole franchise and took so many risks but struck gold. You can tell the people who made this were insanely talented and knew exactly what their vision was and what risks were good to take for the franchise, not sacrificing it's quality. Great video, I'm excited to watch more from you 😄
Black Ops 1 was a favorite of mine as a kid. I remember I played it at an older friend's house. I really wanted to be like him and my older brother by playing CoD. Though when he first got his 360 slim and BO1 they wouldn't let me in the room with them. I was born 02 so I would of been 8 at the time in December of 2010. Evntually the hype cooled down and I could play through the campaign on my own if I ever came over. I was blown away by everything. The intro, the main menu, how crazy the story was. Even to this day I still enjoy playing through the campaign. The story was so well done and it's a shame we haven't seen anything like it again. Cold War tried to follow BO1 and I did like some aspects of it. The jungle brain washing level was very interesting. But it lacked the coolness that BO1 had. I hope eventually down the line we can get a remaster of WaW through BO2 for one complete story with all the technical bells and whistle of modern tech
i remember first playing this game on the wii, it was my first fps and i loved the hell out of it - it took me like a year to beat the campaign since i was learning how to play and what a quick time event was, and i remember i got stuck on the yamantau mission cus i didn't understand how to give orders to hide the soldiers lol i also remember being terrified of trying zombies, even up to black ops 2 until a friend got me to try it and hooked me into the mode for years
Also i wanna mention that the hyper-realistic mission cutscenes also make an appearance in MW3. The ones in the prior 2 games are pretty standard but for some reason infinity + sledgehammer went all out in mw3
@@majorcalzone Yesss and then do aretro on it honestly you should do retrospectives on all the cod games! Or whatever games you are into. The analysis and sharing anecdotes about your own experiences do be relatable and captivating. Viva la calzone
Black ops 1 campaigns gameplay despite being kind of over the top, it never takes away from the serious tone of the story. The reveal/hinting of reznov being dead the whole time was great, but the real reason why I love this game is the fact that the game lets you interpret Mason’s gap in memory. Was he a Russian spy that whole time? Was he the infamous second shooter in JFK assassination? The storytelling is something you wouldn’t expect from a CoD as it is trippy and complex.
Fell asleep watching this but I honestly loved this and agree with what you've said up till I got knocked out lol. I love the overwhelming cutscenes between missions. And the story is briliantly crafted. I loved this game as a kid and even now as an adult. This game will forever hold a place in my heart!

Fun fact, when i was 13 i was grinding the black ops 1 campaign. Later that night i was having dinner with my family, my mother was pregnant at the time. My mother was thinking of baby names for my new baby brother. I brought up the name mason because of mason from campaign. My mom really liked that name. Four years later i have a baby brother mason thanks to black ops 1.

best cod campaign of all time in my opinion, treyarch just simply has better written stories than infinity ward has done with modern warfare. waw, bo1, cold war, bo2, bo3 all are some of the most interesting, thrilling and just honestly complex and layered stories call of duty has offered.
Very nice video! I think you should have talked about Victor Charlie and Crash Site though, i mean Victor Charlie has the goriest kills in the game but also the infamous tunnel section and Crash Site has one of the best section in the game with the opening on the boat and Sympathy for the Devil playing in the background,it was so fun.

What I also like about the Russian Roulette Sequence is it’s a reference to the movie “The Deer Hunter” where american POWs escape their Vietnamese captors by using the pistol to kill them
@@majorcalzone it’s a good movie overall imo since it’s less of a war movie and more of what happens to vets after they come home type movie and how war messes people up mentally
great video, I think that russian roulette scene, it wasn't that much they had luck with bullet and stuff, because you can clearly see where bullet is, so that Woods: FUUUUUCKK is just playing scene for them, that's why he says to Mason: do it, do it now. because he know bullet is right there :D Also ending is cheesy on purpose ''yeah merica fuck yeah we won'', so that scene after with Mason implying he killed Kennedy is real scary ending that makes that cheesy win perfect. Also I love that ''YOU TRIED TO MAKE ME KILL MY OWN PRESIDENT!'' ''TRIED?'' Btw I was one day curious if Treyarch just picked random guy in that Kennedy footage at the end and made Mason after him, and sadly no, they edited him in :D I think it would be really cool if that guy was actually there and they model Mason after him
Ahhh I never thought of that for the russian roulette scene, that's awesome! That is true! The bombastic, "FUCK YEAH MURICA" ending does contrast very nicely with the haunting one with JFK. Nice catch! Man, I was hoping he wasn't edited in, but I'm not surprised to hear that either lol Thank you for the wonderful comment!

Here is one thing I noticed when playing multiplayer.. The American flags in multiplayer maps like Firing Range, Hangar, etc.. turn into the Stars and Bars when you go far away from it
From what I know about the Zombies story line (which isn't much, mind you) the maps Five and Ascension take place at the same time. So maybe there's a connection there? I don't know for sure though
That scene where Bowman is killed by that Dr. Mindbender lookin mother fucker always gets me... And I don't have any proof of this, but it will always be my headcannon that Mason was the one who shot and killed Dr. Clarke. Like somewhere on another roof a couple blocks away, Mason was there with a sniper rifle under the control of the numbers, and he shoots among that hail of bullets whizzing past Weaver and Hudson, killing Clarke, but making it LOOK like it was a random stray shot.
Hey man, found and watched your BO2 vid yesterday and I’ve been looking forward to watching this one today! Here’s hoping you do vid essays for all the COD games 😎
@@majorcalzone watched the Black Ops vid earlier. I haven’t replayed since Warzone so I was super surprised that Steiner was killed on Rebirth Island. That’s crazy haha
22:16 This is wrong. When the shots are fired, you hear two revolver shots. That means that mason spammed the trigger until the bullet shot, not just relied on the bullet being in the chamber.
This video is so amazing I love listening to call of duty videos while driving and especially when its my favorite video game! This video has so much passion and potential my guy keep up the good work🎉
Black Ops was the first COD I played. I always thought of the Call of Duty franchise as nothing more than mindless "pew pew" games with no substance. Nothing that would interest me.
My all time fav game
Great Video!
Thank you!
Hey man, found and watched your BO2 vid yesterday and I’ve been looking forward to watching this one today!
Here’s hoping you do vid essays for all the COD games 😎
Glad you liked the vids my guy! I absolutely will be covering all the CoD games in the future :)
@@majorcalzone fantastic, I look forward to it. Congrats on getting to 1.5k from 300 in three days, you’re really blowing up
@@thelawbringer4125 Thank you! It's been unreal how quickly things have been growing lately lol
@@majorcalzone watched the Black Ops vid earlier. I haven’t replayed since Warzone so I was super surprised that Steiner was killed on Rebirth Island. That’s crazy haha
Great video man
Appreciate it
When I saw you had 600 subs I was very surprised. Good shit and keep it up👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you!!
You see that youtube video.....we're gonna watch it
Holy crap.. u deserve so many more subs bro. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Thanks a bunch homie, I appreciate the love!
22:16 This is wrong. When the shots are fired, you hear two revolver shots. That means that mason spammed the trigger until the bullet shot, not just relied on the bullet being in the chamber.
Huh. Guess I never noticed. Thanks for pointing this out, definitely clarifies that scene lol
Shoutout to any text adventure nerds that also played the entirety of Zork on that computer in the main menu with a 360 chatpad 🤣🤣🤣
Brooooo I never did that but it's crazy that some people did lmao shout out to y'all for real
This video is so amazing I love listening to call of duty videos while driving and especially when its my favorite video game! This video has so much passion and potential my guy keep up the good work🎉
Thanks a lot my man! Glad you enjoyed the video lol
Earned a sub playa great video
Thank you! I’m happy you liked the vid :)
Side note: you cannot fail to friendly fire by shooting reznov, since y'know... He ain't there
Never knew that until people pointed it out to me in the comments here. Such a cool detail!
Black Ops was the first COD I played.
I always thought of the Call of Duty franchise as nothing more than mindless "pew pew" games with no substance. Nothing that would interest me.
How unbelievably wrong I felt when I played this one.
An incredibly rich storyline, a great Fight Club-esque plot-twist, with an amazing voice cast.
All of the hallmarks and a great game.
Totally just earned a sub
you unintentionally showed me how to do that level in the beginning
Funny thing is. I just found your channel and now I’m just browsing and commenting. So don’t mind me lol
Also. I’m excited for the zombies video wooooooooooo!!!!
Sweeeeeeeet! Glad you’re enjoying the content my man!

27:18 Yuri Lowenthal line, you love to see it
I THOUGHT THAT WAS HIM!! Lmao
Wasn’t sure if I should’ve pointed it out or not, and I was too lazy to look it up 😂
The stories from cod 4- Ghosts are elite. I know ghosts multiplayer gets flak but I’m talking about STORY MODE
no idea how I just found you at 476 subs but, yeah I'm #447 and you're definitely going somewhere bro, keep it up!
Haha thank you! I'm glad you liked the video my guy :)
@@majorcalzone the black ops 2 one was just as amazing if not better!
