Mason is the reason why I usually prefer voiced protagonists over silent ones. I mean, if the character is the actual player by design, like Bell in Black Ops Cold War, I don't have much issue with a silent protagonist. But if the character is meant to exist outside of its role as the player character, being completely silent throws me off. The fact that Soap is completely mute but then suddenly becomes a talker in the next game bothers me to no end. Price is always talking, but the moment we play as him, he forgets how to talk. That's what I can't stand. Hell, even Bell had conversations via dialogue options.
I’ve been saying for years that Reznov was the best character to ever grace COD and I’m so happy to finally hear someone think the same. Great vid. Watched from start to finish. Haven’t played this campaign in years but thinks it’s high I get the dust of my PS3 and go for it again ❤
German dub changed this in a similair way. A little bit too on the note i think. And also they seem to have completely cut out masons "ascension" at the jfk reveal at the end.
God this game definitely has the most balls out approach to the campaign that Call of Duty will ever achieve. The use of real major political figures made this campaign unforgettable by Call of Duty standards. The use of JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald would never pass in a game today. This campaign is definitely a relic of its time. You asked in the video if there is any character more interesting than Reznov in the Call of Duty franchise and I don't think so. However, in terms of shock moments I still think the nuke scene in MW1 reigns supreme. The absolute helplessness and despair that came with that scene and the following mission made me shudder as a young lad. It took the player out of the game for a minute to say "Hey, don't forget this shit happens in real life. War is not something to fantasize". In the end you did a fantastic job with this video! I never got bored or felt the pacing dragged out too long. I would definitely love to watch more of these "The Weird Genius of" video essays. I only have two small nitpicks with the video. First is you were talking pretty fast at the beginning of the video but it wasn't a problem for long. Second is I feel the Multiplayer/Zombies section at the beginning could've been cut/moved to the end. This is because they were short and could give a viewer the false impression you were reviewing the whole game in depth rather than the meat and potatoes of the video, the campaign. These are very small nitpicks though, and are 100% outweighed by the quality of the rest of the video. Great job definitely worth the hype build up on stream lol :). To anyone reading this remember to drop a follow at twitch.tv/kazmord ;) Finally, there was no in depth analysis on the philosophical complexity that is the Sticks and Stones multiplayer mode. 0/10 unsubbing + ratio. Sadge.
Thank you for this comment man, glad im not the only one who gets passionate about retrospective videos and esp w/ smaller creators. Hope life treats you well man 💙
I feel like it never gets mentioned that Project Nova uses the classic WaW soundtrack and gun sounds. Good video, could you make one about my beloved WaW?
Stellar pacing and editing throughout. The introspection into Reznov at the end was a great touch I await the inevitable LittleBigPlanet Anti-H4H documentary
this got to be the greatest video ever made about black ops 1. i completely agree, i never cared about a character as much as i cared about Victor Reznov. funny thing is i was about 7 playing this campaign. my english was bad and i was genuinely making what i could out of the story just by the visuals, still didn't see that Reznov was dead, i remember playing bo1 again when i was 14 and being so sad that Reznov was actually dead. only reason i looked back is that i didnt see him anywhere in bo2. i remember being so sad about it though playing it for the second time made me see more than just the action which im happy about.
Additionally at the end of the rocket site mission the last couple guards in the tunnels are wearing gas masks. There was probably a plan to introduce Nova 6 earlier that was scrapped and these are the remnants.
Man this video was so good. I enjoyed the summary of BO1 because genuinely remember nothing from its campaign. Very well paced video aswell shit felt like 20 minutes rather than an hour. Certified hood classic
I know I’m pretty late but dang man this is an awesome video I assumed you would need millions after watching this and your Melendez retrospective. Well earned sub
Thanks mate. The algorithm works in weird ways. I would have liked these videos to get some traction when I made them 2 years ago, but I'm glad it happened at all. Good timing too, because I'm dropping something massive pretty soon :)
Phenomenal video earned a new subscriber. Also I loved black ops 1 it’s my favorite COD. I like to find videos of people explaining my favorite games thoroughly I always learn something new.
This campaign was always confusing to me as a kid. I never understood a single thing going on but it sure was fun. Imo this was the most well rounded Call of Duty game ever made. Every single mode just felt worth your time and was great to play. After watching both your BO1 and 2 vids, I'd assume if you're still into making COD content you'd do the MW original trilogy or cover the most forgotten COD single player experience of all time Black Ops 3? I'd be interested in what you'd have to say about MW3 since still to this day it's reception is pretty mixed as well as BO3 because I don't remember a single thing from that campaign lol
Thanks for the comment! I actually do have a MW2 (2009) video out now, though it's a bit less in-depth. I have thought about doing vids on MW3 and BO3, though they are just not very exciting games(especially compared to BO1/2) imo so there's nothing in the works currently.
the fuck bro all that and 4k views ? im going to share ur video everywhere i go in the social media imma share it, damn i watched the whole thing well played man
That Dmitry mission pretty much sold me on the fact that those three bastards had to die. Man deserved so much more than what he got.
My brother... This is an excellent video. I really hope this blows up before Black ops 6 comes out at this point
Watched the whole thing from start to finish. This was really well done.

I find it funny that in the spanish dub, Dragovich says "What makes you think you didn't?" Instead of "tried?".

The soundtrack is WaW but the gun sounds are reused Black Ops gun sounds
@@tobos8909 ah really. I coulda sworn they summoned up the WaW sounds for guns like the mosin
I understand Woods surviving somehow but Kravchenko is a stretch, how did he get the ‘nade belt off that quickly
thought you had like 100k+ subs because of the video's quality.
this video deserves to blow up bro.
cheers!
21:17 Least interesting? OUR BOY REZNOV IS BACK!!!!!
Love the video tho
This is an amazing video bro 🔥
Stellar pacing and editing throughout. The introspection into Reznov at the end was a great touch
I await the inevitable LittleBigPlanet Anti-H4H documentary
Thanks my guy. I wouldn't be opposed to making an LBP video in the future
this got to be the greatest video ever made about black ops 1.

Blessed be the algorithm

I'm pretty sure my grandpa said 31:08 at one point in his life
Best retrospective of bo1 ever!, gj mate
Thanks, my man
top tier video man, also loved the menendez one. Please make more : )
Phenomenal video earned a new subscriber. Also I loved black ops 1 it’s my favorite COD. I like to find videos of people explaining my favorite games thoroughly I always learn something new.
Woah the video was so good i didn't realize it was almost a hour long
TWO YEARS AND SO FEW VIEWS??? This feels like a Steak Bently video, you should be EXPLODING in numbers
Heh, Steak was my #1 inspiration for branching into longer form content, starting with this video. Thanks man.
@@Kazmord Hell yeah, it shows and it's great!
Dude this video was amazing how do you not have more subs
Definitely should do this kind of video for black ops 2 great video
Super duper wish you could do a neat story overview for Cold War which is a severely underrated modern CoD game.
Watched this like 6 times my dude this is a fantastic deep dive !!!
Thanks m8!
the olympia do be slapping on dog round though
THIS POST WAS NOT APPROVED BY THE M14 GANG
56:21 useless detail but the book hidden on the announcer's desk is "Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy"
Wasn't that the book used to solve the number sequences?
Holy shit just saw that you have only like 160 something subs
This and the Menendez videos are amazing
Great high quality content
less than 10k views on this masterpiece should be illegal
Great video! If you have the time you should totally make one on black ops 2
Awsome video your gonna be big
Wow, amazing video! I am really enjoying it. Really great stuff!!!
Now that you’ve made a video on bo2 would you argue outside a lense of nostalgia that bo2 had the best written story of all the campaigns?
This campaign was always confusing to me as a kid. I never understood a single thing going on but it sure was fun. Imo this was the most well rounded Call of Duty game ever made. 4:05 Takeo Cheifing it
AMAZING VIDEO!
Great video, when is the lbp retrospective?
14:41 where is Nixon in cotd??
Not in the works yet, I'll have to find a good time to do it
Nixon AND the CoTD crew
This deserves more aknowlagement
Mason is a badass
Rip swift
Subscribed good vid
WHY DO YOU ONLY HAVE 5K SUBS
This and Bo 2 are the best by far
Less jump cuts please, I enjoy normal human pace talking.
Cold War has a really good campaign. Might be better than BO1
It is really good, but it’s not as good as bo1
