    I bought this monitor as well as the Asus PG32UCDP because it was the top 2 monitors from every reviewer. I have to tell you seeing both next to each other in dark and daylight conditions it's night and day. It's crazy that the panel is the same however the black crush on the LG is just immense, I fully updated both to latest firmware and running on HDR watching 4k and 8k content playing games that support HDR black levels are insanely crushed on the LG. The black levels and color's on the Asus are not over saturated and inky black on HDR. The LG w/o HDR looked awesome the blacks looked better but compared to the Asus it's just not a match. The vividity on the Asus for content and games with HDR on or off is just leagues ahead of the LG. I calibrated to the best settings out there and the LG again looks awesome in SDR but doesn't match the SDR on the Asus.
    The biggest factor for ME between the Asus and the LG is the ability to charge my Macbook pro with the USB-C. The Speakers on the LG are great and it sucks that the Asus has no speakers but ultimately having a 1 cable charging solution for the Mac at 120hz compared to using a charging cable and HDMI plus the black crush just wasn't worth it. My workflow requires using my Macbook and USB-C a lot and for gaming I do HDR gaming and the black crush was just to much specially paying more for the LG. If you do SDR gaming only and don't have a pair of headsets the LG is great specially if you don't need usb-c.
    In my case I used one HDMI for my work computer, 1 HDMI for my gaming computer because the only way to get past 60hz for the MacBook was display port removing the display port from my PC and that's it no more ports. This mean I was unable to stream from my PC to my TV since I was using the HDMI cable to use the Monitor it just was much of a trade. Have a great day everybody sorry for the essay.

      Thank you for sharing that, super useful! I do think USB-C is a great feature and now I am intrigued to try that Asus too! Currently using DP to a docking station (CalDigit) on the Mac for video editing. Loving it. I need to find an easy way to switch between Mac and gaming PC though, sounds like a project for this weekend

      I bought the lg and I haven't tested it yet but I'm hesitating to send it back and get the ASUS because I saw after many videos that for single player games and hdr were better on the latter. I don't know what to do if i'm returning it, pls help

    Thanks for the great review but - not sure this £1300 worth it, but it does seem like a capable monitor. That said having owned LG before I have had mine replaced twice within a couple of years due to burn in problems, which is why I now stay away from LG monitors etc.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  24 дня назад +2

      Cheers Lee! Yes, this dual mode is probably the feature that a lot of people might choose it for. It's coming down in price already but still fairly new. Looking forward to the 1440p monitors later this year! Also, the burn-in issue, LG confirmed to me that they do cover this under the 2 year warranty, so at least that's some piece of mind...

    • @leetronix
      @leetronix 24 дня назад +4

      @@AlexGTech Thanks Alex. Maybe a 4 yr warranty would be more suitable and fair as people tend to keep monitors for as long as possible at these cost levels?

  • @Shan_Shah
    @Shan_Shah 24 дня назад +4

    I'd take 4k 240hz over 1080p 480hz, the difference from 240hz to 480hz is very negligible and equivalent to 120hz vs 160hz. The jump from 1080p to 4k is huge.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  23 дня назад +1

      Gotta say, for my level of gaming 4K at 240Hz is definitely plenty

    • @theendurance
      @theendurance 22 дня назад

      yep, besides 1080p on 32" looks absolutely terrible and theres only a handful of games that can run anywhere close to 400fps+ to utilize the 480hz. and if you play those games seriously then just get a 1080p 560hz anyways. i was excited for the dual mode at first but after thinking about it, it just feels like a gimmick

    • @Shan_Shah
      @Shan_Shah 22 дня назад

      @theendurance there is no 560hz monitor. The highest is 540hz, and the difference from 240hz to 540hz is hardly 10% smoother, although on paper, it's 2.25× faster than 240hz and 3.75× than 144hz but in reality it's less than a 50% difference, it's days and night from 144hz to 540hz but not soo much from 240hz to 540hz. The difference from 240hz vs 540hz is equivalent to 120hz vs 165hz.

    • @guttalexandrumihai9564
      @guttalexandrumihai9564 20 дней назад +1

      you don't have a clue...what you talkin...the input lag is minor from 3.7 to 1.8 ms I think....but the clarity diference is tremendous....you talk from heared things...never saw a 540 TN...this one has better motion clarity then that. This option is a monitor worth for e sports by itself.

    • @Shan_Shah
      @Shan_Shah 20 дней назад

      @guttalexandrumihai9564 No, I can tell the difference between 240hz and 540hz smoothness, but it's very slight and 360hz vs 540hz = 144hz vs 165hz, I can even see the clarity difference from 360hz to 540hz but it's nothing signficant. However, the jump from 1080p to 4k is much bigger, and that resolution increase gives you great clarity. Besides, there are only a handful of games that can drive anything beyond 240fps-360fps, and the jump from 240hz vs 480hz is around 2.08m/s, which is less than the difference between 120hz vs 165hz. Even though I can see a clarity difference, the resolution increase on the bigger display is more significant. If you asked me 4k 60hz vs 1080p 144hz or 240hz, I'd choose the bigger refresh rate, but once you get to 144hz-240hz, which is the sweet spot anything after than higher resolution. Even gamers say the resolution drop is not worth it for 540hz. If it was 1440p 540hz vs. 4k 240hz, I'd choose the 1440p 540hz, but 1080p in 2024 on a 32" monitor is ugly even on a 16" laptop 1080p doesn't look sharp and even phones have had QHD+ for awhile so the resolution drop is not nice. Even on sub 7" smartphone, I can tell the difference from 1080p 2k to 1440p 3k+.

    LG sent you the monitor, you can keep the monitor after, then how come it's not sponsored? Isn't that a bit.. misleading?

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  23 дня назад +5

      Hi there, I don't mind you questioning it and I appreciate it. I will try to clarify.
      What I mean by 'sponsored' is when the brand pays for the content. In this occasion, LG has not paid me for the video. Yes, the monitor was sent to me and I can keep it, (that's not always the case - the Samsung monitor I mentioned is a loan to me, but again, not sponsored). LG had no say in the video.
      A sponsored video is when the creator gets paid for the video and we do that so we can fund the channel, and in my case, studio rent, staff costs, etc. This is not my full time job so every cost, every phone that I review is purchased with my own money so as you can imagine, I need to fund the channel somehow. In this occasion, however - I am looking at it as a long term possibility and as something that may open a door to other brands and hopefully, sponsored deals.
      Some people disclose it, some don't. I prefer to be transparent and I hope this helps clarify. Any questions, let me know, happy to share more. There is a full ethics statements linked in all my videos too, so you can see how I work with brands.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  23 дня назад +2

      I think it will depend on the room where you play as well. I have the older aw3423dw from Alienware and I love that but it's not good with reflections, the glossy finish only works well in the dark and text clarity is rubbish on it. Not an issue if you only use it for gaming, but I do quite like to switch between gaming and productivity

      DP 1.4 can only do 4K 240Hz with DSC (display stream compression). It's a visually lossless compression technique to achieve higher refresh rates at highter resolutions. There's probably an option in nvidia control panel to turn it on?
