I feed my cats the Wild Prairie Acana from Canada. I noticed a difference in the cats coat and energy after switching to this food. I am surprised to hear that carb content as I had figured it lower when looking at the packaging. Thank you for the review.
Hi! When we got our kittens at age 12 weeks, they were eating IAMS kitten, which they liked but their poop was really smelly, and they farted a lot. My kittens now eat a combination of Acana Kitten First Feast and Scrumbles (Kittens and Queens). They're 9 months old now, and love the food. I added this dry food in when my cat got sick and lost a lot of weight. It was hard for him to gain it back. He loved the Acana food and has gained all the weight back (though sadly he has a chronic illness). if possible it's be nice to provide some alterative recommended options perhaps similar in price and purported quality. it's very difficult to make educated choices for pet food. the acana pacifica and origin six fish seem to be really good when comparing to other options in the store in terms of protein, omega 3 and DHA or EPA or whatever. Would love to see a comparison between the US and Canadian manufactured Acana or Orijen! I heard about the drop in quality in the US and got nervous since I feed my 8mo kittens the Acana kitten dry food (mixed with wet food), but after I looked into it, it seems like the quality of the Canadian food has stayed relatively the same as before (I live in Canada). The carb content seems to be lower as well. I guess I’m just curious if you would rate the Canadian version around the same!
At first my cat wasn't a big fan of this food but he has become accustomed to it. I'm not sure we will stick with it after this bag though because I want him to enjoy his food :)
If I add protein, fat, crude fiber, ash and moisture from Acana Indoor I get to 24% carbohydrates, how can the analysis in the video arrive at more than 37% carbohydrates??
Good video I bought the acana itself, they liked it a lot. The problem is that it has very little taurine and I have a question about the minerals. @All About Cats Hello, I'm wondering what you feed for dry and wet food you would recommend for a healthy 3 year old cat. I don't mind spending for the best cat food. I heard Orijen and Weruva are good ones. I'll be adopting the cat from a friend.
Hi there! You might appreciate our video on the overall best food on the market, which includes both wet and dry foods: ruclips.net/video/G9aCIjWN7xM/видео.html

Hello, thanks for the review! I had a question, I would be glad if you answer it. We have been using Acana and Orijen's cat foods produced in Canadian kitchen for a long time and we are very pleased with these two brands. But this month, I won't be able to buy Acana or Orijen's upper segment formulas as I have a bit of a problem in my budget. That's why I thought about buying the new cat foods that Acana has released as a slightly more economical segment for this month. I hadn't tried these new cat foods from Acana before. Acana First Feast food looks better in this series, the protein and fat content of other foods seems low to me. Even if my cat is not a kitten, I don't think it would be a problem to give kitten food for once this month. My only question to you is that the ash content in this cat food is 10%. Other cat foods of Orijen and Acana have ash content between 8% and 9%. Is high ash content a bad thing or a good thing? In the article I read from several sources, it was written that high ash content means that the amount of bone added to the meat may be higher. I've also read that high ash content can sometimes cause urinary tract problems in cats but I don't know if that's true or not. As far as I know, the ingredient, pH value and magnesium content of cat food are important factors for urinary tract health. Do you have any information about the ash content? Could you please explain if you have any information?
Yeah there's not alot of reviews I can find on Lotus raw. My kittens seem to like it, I rotate it with other raw food brands. The only thing I don't like is it is so finely ground up compared to other raw I feed which is more chunky.
My cat likes it, I add water. It either becomes soft or he eats it quickly and drinks the water. My cat doesn’t drink water. So I have to add it to everything. I think meadowlands is the most dense or dry, but I’m not sure. I was told to be careful of one these. Also he only gets a table spoon at a time, he no longer gets a dry bowl.
Can you do a video of alternative vet prescribed dry foods for common issues? Was told by my banfield vet my cat needs to be on MRX Hills Metabolic or MRX RC Satiety Support dry food for weight loss. Hello, while watching your video i checked myself. NRC doesn't have any info about upper limit for heavy metals for cat and dog food? Can you provide the source please? BPA is ok to exist in canned food but shouldn't be in dry food. According to which info did you say finding that much BPA in pet food is ok? Company says their products are natural which was proven they weren't %100 natural. Fish from farms, chicken raised inside buildings that aren't fed naturally. Maybe they think chicken eating shit is natural? I also read the lawsuit, it was dismissed because there was no proper research on cats and dogs about heavy metals. Only 1 research i could find was only lasted 183 days on dogs consuming 1 certain heavy metal had weight problems. Which is a very short term research. So, again according to what source did you say the heavy metals are inside the limits?
1 good video, this I think has very little taurine I think it is the only worrying thing, greetings from Colombia We have been looking at several brands and these 2 are the ones that give us the best protein and only Orijen arrive here only cat and kitten and six fix and from Acana if several arrive and I have my 2 overweight cats 👍
Fed acana awhile to our cats , one didn't eat it the other got literally fattt eating it . Might be good but won't purchase it again. Overall the one that got fat from it did get a shiny, soft coat after tho !

This food was very expensive where I live and it made both my cats sick for two weeks after only eating it for 3 days, they didn’t want to eat it in the beginning and never ate much of it. This has never happened with any other brand of food. I will never buy this again.
OMG!!!! What to give my cat? I’m from Ukraine. Origen and Acana are the best of the best in our shops. Maybe give him meat and it would be cheap and true.
Carbohydrates aren't problem by themselves. It is important to know the source of carbohydrates. Most of dry foods have "empty" carbohydrates, meaning they offer no nutritional value. Like white sugar for us humans. But whole oats are very healthy for cats, providing protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and contain acid that makes cat's fur shinny. Of course, oats cannot be used as a main or major source of this things and as long they are used only as a supplementary addition to meat, then it is fine. Not ideal, not perfect, but fine. And still a superior alternative to sweet potatoes which ARE empty carbohydrates and are used in most dry food to make it even cheaper.
Pets are very cute, and just being around them naturally brings a smile to one's face. Pets are also very affectionate and will respond to your affection. Not only dogs, which express their emotions by wagging their tails, but also cats and tori show their affection to their owners in their own ways, which helps children grow up emotionally rich. In fact, according to a research team at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, having a pet can stabilize a child's emotional state and increase their intellectual and social skills.😻😻😻😻😻😻😘😘😘😘😘😘
Most stuff we eat can have some pretty toxic stuff for them. For example most cooked foods with have onion, salt, spices. Search what it good for them and what not. I give her peas sometimws
Many owners feed their cats exclusively on dry foods which all contain large amounts of carbohydrates, yet there’s no evidence to show they suffer from nutritional deficiencies or shorter lifespans than cats that eat only animal sourced diets. Maybe cats aren’t the obligatory carnivores we thought they were.
I had a male cat die from repeated kidney issues when I was a child because he only ate dry food and drank little water. Even when my mother knew better and switched him to canned food it was a little too late. My cats get a little Pro Plan dry as a nighttime snacks sometimes. Other than that it is wet food.
My Dads first cat fed dry only. Got overweight and developed diabetes and passed. Second cat fed the same diet and is getting fat and I see her drinking a lot of water. Wish I could transition her to wet food, but he is stuck in his ways. My 2 kittens I recently got are on a main raw food diet with a wet pouch once a day, they get a little Rawz kibble for a tiny overnight snack before we sleep. Going to switch to Dr. Elseys because carb count is much lower.
Good point! The research on carbohydrates negatively affecting cats is certainly not substantial, but we CAN definitely say that water, as a vital nutrient, is deficient in dry foods, and that moisture deficiency can and does increase a cat's risk of urinary tract disease. You're right, though, that carbohydrate metabolism and the effects of dietary carbohydrates on a cat's blood sugar and pancreatic function are not well-understood, and we are only starting to see some research suggesting that a high-carbohydrate diet may cause as well as exacerbate feline diabetes. Cats can, however, digest and utilize carbohydrates in the diet, and many live well on starchy kibble. But as obligate carnivores, they do not need any of the components in plants to survive and do require animal matter-exclusive nutrients. With that in mind, a cat will do just as well or better on a meat-based diet. So why not err on the side of caution and opt for a meaty diet for your carnivore?
Agreed with others above, there is evidence of dry food causing or exacerbating several diseases. My childhood cat was fed only dry food plus whatever she caught outdoors for 16 years. Once I moved out and took her with me, I learned the risks of dry food and switched her to wet food. Unfortunately, it was too late, as she had developed chronic kidney disease. However, on the wet food, her CKD never progressed and she lived to be over 19. You’re not a horrible pet parent if you feed dry - some cats do fine on it. But you do need to weigh the risks.
People act like they are such animal lovers by feeding dead animals to their animals. Imagine if the world used all of those resources to take care of humans, not stupid cats and dogs that do almost nothing. The world is backwards and people are inhumane.
Cat food companies should offer, or even sell, small sample boxes just to see if your cat likes it before shelling out $30.
I agree especially for the more expensive food. Luckily most pet stores even online will let you return or exchange food if your pet doesn’t like it.

Have you done a cat review on Lotus cat food, they have really good reviews. They bake their kibble, I know it is kibble but it is interesting . They make wet foods and raw food as well.
Acana has wet food too
Please review I and love and you. Thanks

And yes, we plan to review I And Love And You soon-we already covered it on the All About Cats website as well if you'd like to read a review in the meantime. allaboutcats.com/i-and-love-and-you-cat-food-review
This food was very expensive where I live and it made both my cats sick for two weeks after only eating it for 3 days, they didn’t want to eat it in the beginning and never ate much of it. This has never happened with any other brand of food. I will never buy this again.
Michigan- Amazon At $5.00++a pound I find the info printed misleading additionally
The cats do not like this food…
Switched to Hills Science Diet…
Thanks for the feedback!
I want my cats to love orijen but they prefer farmina. I’m concerned
Since, these are made for cats, shouldn't it have Mice, Pigeon, other Birds, Cat Grass and gold fish?
OMG!!!! What to give my cat? I’m from Ukraine. Origen and Acana are the best of the best in our shops. Maybe give him meat and it would be cheap and true.
Same here! I currently give Acana as dry food and Schesir as wet food. Their caned meat is pretty good.
Did you try Acana meadowlandd??
37% carbohydrates! Keep that away from your cats at all costs.
@@Terepin64 Cats are obligate carnivores; they don't benefit from having carbohydrates in their diet.
@@wyliecoyote1696 They benefit from oats. You can look it up.
Acana has wet cat food...
My cats tear open the bag.
There are lots of lies in this review
Just let them eat your left overs
That works for farm working dogs not for indoor cats. You'll kill them doing that.
Pizza, brownies, and peanut butter?
Most stuff we eat can have some pretty toxic stuff for them. For example most cooked foods with have onion, salt, spices. Search what it good for them and what not. I give her peas sometimws
Many owners feed their cats exclusively on dry foods which all contain large amounts of carbohydrates, yet there’s no evidence to show they suffer from nutritional deficiencies or shorter lifespans than cats that eat only animal sourced diets. Maybe cats aren’t the obligatory carnivores we thought they were.
My cat disagrees
They are carnivores dude
@@cooliipie Cats are, not dogs. Dogs are omnivores like humans. Regardless, point is the same.
