The U1 has become my most worn watch in my collection by far ever since I bought it. It's a brick shithouse of a watch, one you never ever forget you're wearing, and I just love the look of it. It absolutely screams "TOOL WATCH", I feel like I could take it off and use it as a hammer if I needed to lol. My U1 is my favorite tool watch. Tough as hell, has a few marks on the case (non-tegimented) and the external AR has a couple blemishes, but still by far my favorite one to wear. On the bracelet and the Sinn strap.
Sinn are just awesome. Wish I had gotten one - instead of that mediocre IWC - while I lived in Frankfurt and they were still dirt cheap with now-owner Lothar Schmidt only just having joined. Thanks for another really entertaining and insightful show!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Well, that watch already exists: It’s called Sinn 365 and it is the only contemporary "pilot watch" I can take serious - just classy! It was actually Schmidt's first product after coming from IWC.
These are such beautiful watches. The bracelet too. My only reservation, with a tegimented watch with sapphire crystal, which is amazing at preventing scratches: why would Sinn then put anti reflective coating on top of the sapphire? Hit a door knob or a wall and the scratch will be visible. If they did a version with the coating under the crystal, that would be maybe my grail watch. All Sinns seem to have this issue with the coating.
Great comparison video, I never used to like the U1 / U50 because of the Lego hands but have slowly come round but still prefer the sword style hands on my UX's. Expensive yes but only the AR coating outside in all Sinn’s are very easy to came off if you beat bit hard but always an option remove it All the best and enjoy your watches wear them not photos and safe boxes….😂
Loved this show MWC! It’s always so good to hear someone talking about a watch that they love. I’m still not sure I’ll ever love the Casio DW290 though 😂 But I do appreciate it now more than I did before. Fantastic work as always MWC 🙌
Well said there Gareth! Had been lucky to own the 104 already so I knew the build quality would be superb. The next Sinn if I was to buy, had to have some of the technologies that set them apart from many other watch brands! This U50 is over engineered loveliness!:]
For pretty much any popular Swiss watch model you can say: Or you take the version from Sinn of the same watch for a third of the price. In some cases you can even say: Or you take the original from Sinn (903 over Breitling Navitimer, 144 over the Prosche Design chrono).
I’m just on my way back from a two week holiday in Germany where I had hoped to treat myself to a Sinn 556, maybe the UTC version or the Sinn that looks like a Navitimer but was dismayed at how scarce they are in shops - the dealer I was aware of in Augsburg had a small selection but none that was on my list so I came away empty handed. What you say about Sinn regulating supply through whatever reason now makes sense of my experience. I love the show, brill as always and your wife’s right, it is a bigger Lego watch LOL, sorry! I bought a U1 last year because I have a bigger wrist, but sold it. Just to big tall and heavy. I’m looking at the u50 now. I’m just worried it might look to small. Great video as always.
Both are great looking and German engineering is superb, but the price is the killer. I would be more interested in a Longines Hydroconquest 'diver' for £1500. Not a fan of the date window either as it doesn't add to the look and if anyone wants the date they look at their phone (yes i know the hydroconquest has one). Your wife (like mine) cares for what is really important when it comes to watches. What does it look like. One day you will have to put together a video of just your wife's reactions
Fabulous looking watches, love the treated steel and ar coating does give the depth in the dial. Clasp is a minor let down. But looks great on the sail cloth strap.
U50 is a heck of a watch and perfect size for the "Desk-Diver" in all of us. I've handled one U1 and I have to say, that antireflective treatment is something to behold. Crystal does absolutely disappear.
nice vid and im a big fan of sinn (especially the u1). I think im right im saying the u1 is available in a standard steel version (as well as tegimented), compared to the u50 which is tegimented only. I also think its intestesting how the sinn rubber strap is the same cost as the metal bracelet. Usually a bracelet would be more expensive, but perhaps this is more a reflection on the quality of the sinn rubber...
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I havnt seen the clasp on the rubber strap, but i take your word for it. The whole rubber strap system does look amazing and i love the colours.
Sinn make less than 12000 watches a year and have quite a big range so Undertale Rolex makes a million. Love my sinn 756, proper goes under the radar but I do get a few nods by those in the know .
Awesome review Russ, I think with a 7.1/4 wrist ide prefer the U1 but the back play on the bezel and slightly inferior clasp is worth pointing out, still a great looking watch
Would the U50 be suitable for a latex-predominant BDSM party frequented by several cabinet minsters and a smattering of Russian and Chinese oligarchs? Bracelet articulation, wow-factor and smudge-proofness are vital, as is a business at the front, party at the back vibe. Look forward to your advice.
I’ve watched this video several times along with reviews of Zinn watches By other reviewers… I must have one… I’ve decided I’m going to save up and make it my next purchase!
Following on from your comparison review I ordered a U50 on the bracelet, I agree totally with both your comments on the watch and the bracelet, point of fact I was so disappointed with the clasp on the bracelet and the fact that all together I felt that it detracted from each other and made an incredible watch look boring that I then bought the red rubber strap and that just made the watch pop in the way I felt it deserved. I just love your channel and several of my purchases have come from your reviews. Keep it up its brilliantly entertaining. 😁😁
Hi, i already own a 556i and plan to purchase a u50 for sure. Perfect review! Just one question please: i really want to buy these kind of sailcloth straps from artem too. Is it possible to use the "fat"-spring bars (1mm) or do I have to go for the quick-release bars? Or which of them fits better? Can you answer this, sir? Thanks!
I cant believe its been a year since you first bought it, i remember your wife's comment lol, I think I said it had railway signal hands, still a nice well engineered watch

Good show sir! Still loving your work! Well pardon me Russel.. I obviously have not yet become accustomed to British slang after watching your videos, so when you dropped the “well it’s like taking a piss” I choked so hard, my wife ran into the room to make sure I wasn’t dying… absolutely yet another brilliant video!😂

Got a question about your wrist size MWC it’s about the silicone strap from your U50 how many rubber parts have you cut ? Bebe got the black model U50 S steel bracelet etc. the part that fits in the “quick adjustment “ kind off.. how many “cuts have you made ? If you can please make a small video review showing the rubber/silicone strap with the clasp plus that latch quick adjustment if you can mate ! All the best to you and your channel! Lots of fun 🤩👍
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR well, I gotta say that the only one that I’d be likely to get is a Nomos. Probably a Tangente. There’s just something about Nomos.
Very tough my friend! The watch you’d wear more often would be the BB58 in my opinion. The U50 is for someone with a few watches in their collection!;£
2 grand for a sw 200 or even 300 is taking the piss. Great review mate ❤️. The back play on a 1000m diver is there so you can still turn it at that depth. A sat diver would use a watch simply to tell the time, the fact it has that water resistance and no helium escape valve means it is not over engineered but designed with marketing in mind.
Arson! You can poopoo this all you want buddy it ain’t gonna work. The helium escape valve is an abomination to all watches. Ain’t no way the bezel was designed to be like though as the U50 would do it to.

Awesome review Russ, I think with a 7.1/4 wrist ide prefer the U1 but the back play on the bezel and slightly inferior clasp is worth pointing out, still a great looking watch
Wow , poor bezel back play on the U1! On that note I'd have to go for the smaller Lego watch ! 😆
Russell Have to admit I was surprised with the bezel action on the U1. or the back play! For £2615 its not much to ask to quit that backplay!
Yes Dale!!!:]
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR ive heard that the back play is by design, to allow sand/grit to escape at depth...but not sure how true this is?
@@esperoutdoors9421 Esper the question is why doesn’t the U50 do it to? Used for the same purposes.
I see you own in the video a Sinn 104 too mate! That's awesome! I own a 104 with a blue dial. One of my favorites in my collection. Cheers mate!
One of the best bezel faces ever!
I tried on that one matey!!
Top content as usual! The U50 is definitely the better choice of the two.
Cheers Jason! appreciate that a lot! Yeah its the U50!
Im definetly biased, but they look like kids watch, at least from the video ;)
BTW they should have named it U.50
"1,000 metres, that's just taking the piss" might be my favourite quote of the year
I usually beep out the swearing ! That was rude!!
They make an on the fly adjustable clasp for this model now
Artem does make a pretty great sailcloth strap, loving the short on my personal 58 too!
Thanks!
Great video mate as always. Do you like the U2? I'd love one, I love the silicon straps Sinn do.
Thanks for watching my friend!
love sinn. have a 103, wanting a u50 now as my next piece
I cant believe its been a year since you first bought it, i remember your wife's comment lol, I think I said it had railway signal hands, still a nice well engineered watch
Amazing and scary Paul!!! Thanks for your continued support and always appreciate your honest reports!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR its a pleasure to watch. If you want to watch some lovely vintage watches being repaired I would recommend Ned, he is a true artisan with humour like yourself
…U50 on the wish list 😊; thank you for the always brilliant content.
Riccardo! Appreciate this my friend!!!
Good show sir! Still loving your work! I tried practically everything on in their factory not long ago and although I'd reserved a U50-T on bracelet, I couldn't deal with the clasp and walked away with my other favourite, the EZM-3F. Now on green rubber, it's a beaut! See instagram tag with your name on it...in a few mins. Hope you're keeping well Russell! 😉👍
Thank you my friend! Yeah great looking dial and case I’m just not a left hand drive watch guy! Looks weird !!!;)
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR It does, but it’s so comfortable! I sold the 104 (again) as it dug my wrist. I have crown issues! If you do ever want to move the U50 on in future, drop me a line. I know how this hobby goes my friend!😁
I found a reasonably priced 2nd hand of this U1, is it better than the Sinn 556i? I can get the U1 used for around 1,200$ and 1,700$ brand new for the 556i.
What a smashing review !! Thank you for that ...love that different wrist band for the U 50 ...Great choice....Ahm ..what is "Tennis" ;))...I also own a U1and have to admit the clasp looks cheap and is the biggest downfall of that watch !
RawGab thank you so much my friend!
Lovely little video, I like the focus on stuff like the AR. Any chance you could get hold of a Sinn UX? I’d love to see some macro of that oil-filled, zero-distortion loveliness.
Oooooo yes hopefully more Sinn’s to come!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Ace, cheers mate! I’m enjoying your videos more and more. I really appreciate you taking the time to critique things like the crappy clasp, too many watch RUclipsrs just blindly praise pieces because they are worried about the supply drying up - this is proper consumer advice 👍
Brilliant as usual and I love the wife’s “ comments ! Lego watch’ , sums it up!
Hahahaha yeah she’s gotta point!
Well pardon me Russel.. I obviously have not yet become accustomed to British slang after watching your videos, so when you dropped the “well it’s like taking a piss” I choked so hard, my wife ran into the room to make sure I wasn’t dying… absolutely yet another brilliant video!😂
He said "it's taking the piss" as no one can dive 1000m 🤦🤣
Absolutely brilliant channel. ‘A bigger Lego watch’. Harsh/fair.
Andy you are a gent thank you!
I just now tonight ordered the fully tegimented Sinn U50 Black on rubber strap after watching The Mad Watch Collector's very entertaining & persuasive review (and also Teddy Baldassarre's equally informative review). I very much look forward to wearing this on my wrist in a few days! BTW, one of my very favorite movies is Das Boot.
how has the sinn u50 been holding up so far, any scratches
None whatsoever on mine after 1.5 years!;)
At that time in history Mr. Sinn was in the air and not in the water.
Fantastic Watches! Had my first 8yrs ago a 556a
Awesome!! What a watch!
Russell we've missed your mate. You're not posting as much as you used to. Hope you're all right? Hopefully you are well and just too busy to do this.
Russ very interesting as i need to pop in and try these bad boys on But waiting to see if they update the U1, which is a little overdue
Ahead of Sinn, I’d put A. Lange & Sohne, Nomos, Glashute Original and D Dornbluth. But that’s me.
Superb Calvin! Can’t say I’d ever buy or wear those brands!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR well, I gotta say that the only one that I’d be likely to get is a Nomos. Probably a Tangente. There’s just something about Nomos.
@@calvinchann1996 yes very nice!!
Oooooooh the Missus is cooold! 😅😅😅😅 U50 over U1 any day, zhe Gzermanz! 🤙🏻
Very cold Dénes!!!!!
Russell I love your videos , your editing is superb 👏👏👏
Laurence thank you so much for this!!!!! Appreciate the support!!
More small watches from Sinn would be good. Thats always the issue I had with watches!
Great point my friend! I hardly ever go for watches over 40mm and this and the 104 fit like 39’s!
Hello I’m a new subscriber, wonderful content. I’m now catching up on old videos ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much for finding the channel!!!!!
Another great video, MWC!
However, despite owning way too many watches, I now need a Sinn U50 …. curse you MWC!! 😂😂
i sold my sinn ux. after sending it to Germany they told me is was not covered under warranty. when i got it back i sold it as soon as i could
Love the u50. But out here in the former English penal colony, the exchange rate, taxes etc make it on par with a second hand bb58. Tough decision.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR haha. Just trying to see if I could trigger your buyers remorse 😂
The 44mm size of the U1 turned me off. At that size, I could have purchased a Pam. The 41mm seems to be a better fit.
Loved the review. Maybe one for my Xmas list to Santa this year 🎅
Andy! Appreciate you watching!!
Oh, great. I am waiting for a Pelagos LHD and here I thought Sinn are always in stock lol. These "not-waitlist" waitlists are getting a bit ridiculous.
Where is your video about the Sinn 104? Or didn't you ever make one? I'm seeing you wearing it, but can't find your review. I would love to know your thoughts about it! Expecially your wife's thoughts;-)
I love the look of the case and strap but its the Minecraft inspired dial and hands I just couldn't live with.
Love them both so clean and such a tool watch!
Not sure you can get toolyer!!!!???;)
Great comparison. Love your style. Subscribed !
U50 would be my choice. You didn’t “Get ya watch out”. Did I see the 104 make an appearance?
hahahaha i do that sparingly but promise it'll be in the next one Dan!!
Great video and watched the whole lot even thought they both don’t do anything for me.
Scott! You are a top gent! Thanks for the support!
Which "vintagy" dive watch is that on 1:43?
It’s a Hamilton I reviewed a few months ago my friend! Check out the show!
Vertex Aqualion or Sinn U50?
Is it overkill to want them both???
Cool review love the wife's concise sometimes brutal comments! 😁👌
P.S. eagerly awaiting the steel Skmei Vs G video matey!
Actually looking forward to that one Paul!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR coolio! Thinking about modding my AE-1200 with a metal case/bracelet upgrade kit from SKXMODS and having a full metal royale!
Have you noticed if your tegimented clasp for the silicon strap is completely tegimented?
Mine is tegimented only the external lid, but not the rest of the clasp which is not the case of mm y bracelet clasp that is completely tegimented.
Will you trade it in for the u50 Hydro???
Hello dear Mad Watch Collector . You said the U50 belongs to your top 3 most worn watches ...please could you unveil what the 2 other most watches are ? ;-) ( please .. i would like to know :-))
Of course my friend. Black bay 58 and the G-SHOCK 5610
I'm afraid I have to agree with your wife!! 🤣🤣
Any plans to review a RADO Captain Cook or Golden Horse 1957?
Would love to hear your and your wife's views 😉👍
And that’s no bad thing! One day!! If I can find one!
Is Sinn still using Selitta movements and still raising prices? 🫤Love the vids. Keep 'em coming, my friend! Have a great weekend.
Top grade Sellitas and regulated before they are shipped out the warehouse my friend
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Comment wasn't directed at you,or your watch, personally. Owned an Oris with a Selitta movement. Back for movement repair and then malfunctioned again, so into the bin it went. When Damasko knew ETA movements would no longer be available they developed their own. The price of their watches went up by about $500 per model. I talked myself into paying the difference, and I'm glad I did. Since I watched the first one of your videos I've been a massive fan, and always recommend your channel to others. And by the way, I'm 73 and still buying watches! Will I ever learn? NO!!!!!!

Excellent review- might look at one of these.
