Contracts has always been my personal favorite entry in the series. It polishes the mechanics of Hitman 2:SA, has great atmosphere and some of the most memorable levels in the series. I actually prefer it over Blood Money, but I'm very much aware that few people agree with me on that.
I never saw Contracts as the one to polish anything. Looking at the mechanic and especially the UI, It always seemed that Silent Assassin polished Agent 47 and Blood Money Polished Contracts.
5:48 I am completely sure that the SWAT team has not been retconned, since Hitman 2 shows that the first SWAT team was called by Ort-Meier while he was still alive, but then several other SWAT teams and police came as reinforcements after Agent 47 killed Ort-Meier. So this SWAT team in Contracts is not the same one from the Codename 47, they are actually the reinforcements for the first SWAT team.
In Lee Hong Assassination, you actually can find a poison in the level. It’s on top of the safe in the brothel. It’s not very useful for getting Silent Assassin rank, but it is there for those who like it.
Yeah, it's not useful because your cover will be blown and guards will immediately turn you into Swiss cheese. And in Traditions of the Trade when you try to 'Talk' to the guard infront room 202 whilst disguised as one of the Fuchs brother's bodyguards (in my experience at least), No cutscene, no dialogue will play, Room 202 guard will pull out his revolver and start shooting you.
You did described pretty well. It is dark; it is ominous. There is a uneasiness on it and it actually goes perfectly well with the whole atmosphere of levels coupled with brilliant sound design (I honestly believe the sound effects of this game wins over any other on the Hitman franchise). The soundtrack from this games is quite like a "spoken silence".
The final mission in contracts is a continuation of the third mission in blood money. In asylum aftermath the swat team that storm the place are actually the second wave as evidenced throughout the mission you can find dead bodies of swat members around the building stating that the dead ones were the ones from the first wave (the ones who swatted in codename 47). In contracts all of the missions (except the last one) are 47's memories, In the mission Deadly cargo 47 only remembers only few things about it maybe because he's mind is fogged because he's having a near death experience (or he just doesn't remember it all too well). Most of the missions show 47 killing his fathers (excluding Pablo Ochoa though I would have loved to see the Columbia mission remade) which is referenced in all of the Hitman games, this is to make the story more understandable for the newer fans. I wish the newer games had missions like contracts, It's atmosphere made it unique which made its name as "The Darkest Hitman Game" ever to be released.
I really wish they’d make a successor to this game in showing the darker, psychological side of the assassin life. I still love this game for its atmosphere, music, and tone. Just about all the following games have a rather romanticized view of Agent 47’s world.

I’ve been so excited for this video! Great job again! It’s always great to see people in the Hitman community talk positively about Contracts! It is very, very under appreciated and deserves more praise for fixing a lot of Hitman 2’s (the old Hitman 2) flaws and having a combination of good new levels and good remade levels that are pretty much all better than codename 47. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on my favorite game of the series coming up next!
I actually low key love Contracts, not my favourite but it is so enjoyable. No other game in the series gives as good an atmosphere and its soundtrack is so amazing. I feel most of the level remakes are pretty good and that the changes need to be forgiven as the style of game changed from Action to Stealth focused. My suggestion for it though would have been to separate the remakes throughout the game instead of having a line drawn down the middle of new and old. It would have made for a satisfying narrative if they started with the first Lee Hong mission near the beginning and then have the final flashback be assassinating Lee Hong. With that said, the last level needed more work it is such a disappointing end to a strong game. And as to why they changed the old missions weather and time of day was because it's supposed to be the rain 47 hears in the real world seeping in to his hallucinations so that's why it rains in every mission. That and for tone.
One thing that was nice is the difficulties are more than simple slider value adjustments. They actually do change the gameplay making it where some disguises no longer work and npc's actually reacting to suspicious behavior. like if you're running around like a maniac in a place where it's not normal to do that or wandered into an off limit area and spotted.

In lee Hong assassin in hitman contracts poisoning Tzun is possible..u can aquire the poison from the brothel..its on top of the safe there..and poisoning Tzun will show the same awesome cut scene in hitman contracts as it's in hitman codename 47.
I can see having it so you play the original Agent 47 levels first then continuing on to the new levels working. I've seen it done before like with Fire Emblem 3: Mystery of the Emblem having "book 1" which was just the first game redone from 8 bit NES graphics to 16 bit SNES graphics (iirc with some fat from the original trimmed out), and then "book 2", which was an entirely new story that happened some years afterwards.
