Scott actually isn't imagining Ramona rollerblading through his mind in a dream sequence. She can create dimensional portals and was using Scott's mindscape as a shortcut. Not explained in the movie, but it does explain why she's such a good Amazon delivery person despite not having a car or truck
The comic book is a little clearer that the world is a little weirder and some people have weird abilities, but the movie can kind of be read as taking place mostly in Scott's head
@@bmoak No She says it directly to him in the movie and she says oh you guys dont have it here in canda yet, Alsoooo nah this is world is werid a simple way to think about it is how scott asks jullie how she is doing that thing with her mouth and she says dont worry about it meaning it is a thing people can see not just him.
a high space subway thing
YOU ARE THE FIRST REACT CHANNEL that I've seen that figured out the point of the 7 evil exes. They're not only what we compare ourselves to when we enter a new relationship, but also the trauma people have to overcome after the break-up. Like Gideon "literally" getting inside her head to influence her decisions.
I'm so proud of you, you've earned my subscription.
In fairness, this is a bit clearer in the books, where there's a bit more focus given to the flipside, with Scott's crappy behaviour with his various exes given more focus, and Ramona's reactions to finding out about those as well.
Wallace just cracks me up every time he's on screen, everything he says is just hillarious. Fun fact; it's macaulay culkin's cosin; Kieran culkin who also played his little brother in Home Alone.
Other way around. Kieran is Macaulay’s brother IRL and played his cousin in the movies.
and most importantly he kicks all of the ass in Succession
It was cool that Knives went through her own journey of growth. When she tells Scott she's too good for him, it wasn't just her way of encouraging him to go after Ramona, it was her realizing her own self-worth.
I used to think it was a sad ending for Knives but after all these years I think it was actually for the best. She really did deserve better than that.
Which was foreshadowed by Wallace saying, "You're too good for him. Run."
This is one of my favorite movies! I love that it just IS and doesn't really explain itself. It's not afraid to be a different, unrealistic world. I have watched this movie with people and they are like What? How? Why? Is this just in his head? I don't get it? No it just is what is and I love it.
Read the graphic novels: everything Is real, Everyone else acknowledges the crazy things that happen to him and around them, but it's also from the perspective of someone who thinks he's great/a good guy, so he'll say things like "I don't drink" for volumes later to be drinking with people going "I thought you don't drink?"
tl;dr: it's real, and he's in denial about being an asshole.
I used to quote this move on a daily basis, such a classic. "He punched the highlights outta her hair!" 😱🤣🤣🤣
My most frequent quote has been, “Bread makes you fat?!”
You have to say it a second time with more drama, “HE PUNCHED THE HIGHLIGHTS OUT OF HER HAIR!”
I told my last gf that I was in Lesbians with her 😂
I'm probably one of the few people who saw this in theatres, just because of the director. His comedies are great! It's also cool to see Scott defeat Captain America, Captain Marvel and Superman ;)
I saw it on opening weekend. It sucked that it was up against the Expendables.
Saw it opening week as well. Like you mainly because of the director plus just a really fun idea. What I can't believe is there were only two other people in the theater and this movie bombed at the box office. Definitely in my top ten all time and Edgar Wright is a stud.
*pushes glasses up towards forehead* ummm actually, he doesn’t defeat Captain Marvel he just defeats her boyfriend; Superman.
Saw it with the director and cast. Won a radio contest. It was great and didn't know anything about the game in advance
And Katara from Last Airbender. So much talent in this fantastic movie. And I'm with you re the director; it's why I first watched it too.
Fun Facts about the film:
- The actress that plays Roxy is the same voice for Katara from The Last Airbender.
- This is the last film Chris Evans was in before he auditioned for Captain America.
- The castle was filmed at Casa Loma in Toronto, Canada, where the X-Men movies were also filmed for Xavier's School.
- All of the drawings are from the creator of Scott Pilgrim, Bryan Lee O'Malley.
Roxy was also The DUFF and Michael Cera’s then Will Arnett’s GF in Arrested Development.
Her?
@@Diegesis also she played the president daughter in Independence Day with Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum
@@MadcapMatt and she's voiced Tinkerbell in several Disney projects.
this movie is so underated. if it came out today or within the last 5 years i feel itd be huge
Well, that’s also because we are in desperate need for actual good movies instead of horrible writing and box checking.
If it came out today over half of the cast are now huge actors so yea it would be gigantic.
You don't know what words mean.
Word
Lol….what movie in the last 5 years is worth rewatching 10, 15… or 20 years from now? None. This movie is a classic for a reason. It will stand the test of time.
8:35 Fun fact: this wasn't CGI! The director actually had him throw it into the trash can. If you track down the outtakes, it shows you how many times it took him to get it in there.
This movie is like a musical where everyone breaks into song. Only here they break into superhero theatrics.
GENIUS FILMMAKING!!! 100% Original ONE OF A KIND and hits EVERY mark!! Brilliant work by Director Wright and the entire cast...
Yeah Wright is the man
not really 100% original just because it was based off a graphic novel
@@CheGuevara-uf4pm true dat! I was speaking more of the style and direction than the source material. Unless you can think of another that comes close to it…
@@yourthaiguy the style and direction was flawless hands down , just thought you were talking about everything being original from the characters to the story. like how people talk how original Scorsese's film the departed was not realizing that the departed isnt a Scorsese original because he just remade and Americanize a asian movie called infernal affairs and he didnt change anything but matt damon character getting killed at the end because in the original his character survived and is in part 2 , by the way if you didnt know the departed is a remake the original is a trilogy
@@yourthaiguy kumg fu hustle and shaolin soccer was part of the director inspiration for the fights
Of all the evil exes, Roxie is the ONLY one that seems to have taken their break-up with Ramona personally. All the others just seem to want to beat on Scott because it's fun. But Roxie seems genuinely pissed AT Ramona more than Scott. He's just "in the way."
the rest of em seem like theyre just there cause they got hired by gideon. i agree roxie has more in common with knives.
No, Matthew was just as upset. "You'll pay for this, Flowers!" and all.
I feel like if she wasn’t such a homewrecker in book 4 I’d genuinely feel bad for Roxie.
This movie is so dope and so slept on. When the notification popped up, I was like "I know she's gonna love this." I'm saving this to my "Favorite Reactions" playlist. I wish more people would react to it.
You don't know what words mean.
don't be rude
@@chand911 except on its release this film was an objective failure, not even breaking even at the box office. It was only after the DVD release that it started to gain traction. Now it's a cult classic, but if you venture very far outside the nerd circle you won't find many people who have seen it.
Besides being one of my favorite movies, this movie perfectly embodies the late-00s. The cast is absolutely LOADED. The cultural references and style are top notch.
Can’t wait for this! Probably in my all-time top five movies!
This movie had some great small detail in each scene. For example, the scene on the bus. Each light behind Scott was heart shaped, because he was falling in love. Though each light behind Ramona was an X, because she wasn't. Although by the end of that scene, the lights behind her turned into hearts as well.
omg, like, WOW
its my fav movie, ı have watched it like countless times and ı was thinking ı got the all details but here ı am again just realizing new details ! thank you
Dude, that comment about comparing yourself to all of your dream girls exes is exactly what it is. That’s the battle Scott is going through, the story is about two flawed characters with baggage and trauma trying to overcome eachother’s and their own past to be together. That’s at least what the analogy for the story always seemed like to me.
The one obscure reference that I love the best is when knives finds out scott dated envy. Her subtitle says, about to E.X.P.L.O.D.E It's a reference to the anima movie akira. And uniquely the poster that read "Neo tokyo is about to E.X.P.L.O.D.E" about as deep dive as you can get.
Yay Maple! I'm so glad you loved this movie. It's so unique and fun, and it doesn't deserve the bad rap it got when it dropped in theaters. There is a very clear indication that Scott was headed toward being another evil ex, so his redemption was definitely worth it.
You're my favorite maple! Keep having fun watching stuff. Thanks for the reaction!!!
"She's so cute"
Truer words have never been spoken.
I loved this movie so much and I could not believe how poorly it did at the box office.
it is still in my top ten comic book flicks.
I was so fortunate to catch this in theaters. So much fun. Also, Hench 4 Lyfe Mr. Monarch.
@@christopherhughes6961 That's 21's job. I'd be happy if Dr Mrs The Monarch would spent a little less time at counsel meetings, and a little more time dressed like Rocky while I play Khal Drogo. MRUU-HAHA
@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen I agree! Can't wait for the movie friend!
Romances generally do very poorly at the box office. Teen angst ones in particular.
I love that this movie is basically a musical, but with fights instead of songs. And also the surreal nature of watching Michael Cena do badass fight choreography.
Love this movie. So fun, so stylish. If you haven’t seen it yet I recommend Hot Fuzz, same director.
Also, pretty fun to see this film have Captain America, Superman and Captain Marvel in it.
The one thing I would have changed about the ending; Scott doesn’t end up with Ramona OR Knives. He learns and grows and moves on as an independent man, as the fight wasn’t about winning the girl in the end, but learning to be a better man for the future
It's interesting that you mention the "Anime" look of the characters; because this movie is based on the graphic novel series which HAS a definite anime influence in the style. OH, and there's also an 8-bit style video game as well; if you are interested in those things. The game is multi player too so you can play with Arianna and perhaps make a gaming video together.
One of my absolute favorite movies, I will never say no to watching it haha
17:43 Fun fact: this was Universals condition for letting them redo the Universal logo! They had to put it somewhere in the actual film.
I felt like I completely not only understood, but also emotionally related to every moment of your reaction. Thank you for such a wondrously beautiful and exciting journey.
I'll never get tired of watching stuffs about Scott Pilgrim. One of my favorite movies. Greetings from Brazil. :)
The monster during the battle of the amps is the "green-eyed monster", aka Scott's jealousy.
You can see he has green eyes after it's summoned.
Scott Pilgrim is like a villain redemption story from the perspective of the villain. He gets there in the end.
My wife and I were in Toronto and went to Casa Loma. We went up the stairs at the back (the ones the 2nd X slid down) and when we got to the top they were setting up for the shoot for this movie. It was mid spring but there was 'snow' all over, just sheets of foam really but it looked like snow even up close till you touched it.
Love how your level of whimsy is perfectly in line with the movie.
Super Hero Movie/TV Show Count Sky High, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Superman , Punisher , The Atom , Agents of Shield, Birds of Prey, There is probably more but man this cast was un freaking real.
My favorite description of the nature of this movie is that it's a movie musical, where the dances are replaced by fight scenes. The classic conceit of movie musicals (in the Rogers & Hammerstein philosophy) is that the story proceeds and when the emotions get so big you can't simple speak them, you sign, and when they get so big you can't sing about them, you dance.
Edgar's take on Scot Pilgrim really isn't that dissimilar. The music kicks in when Scott's world gets too complicated, and when it gets too complicated for music, the fight scenes kick in. It's really very clever.
Love you so much Maple. You awesome dude. From RSA
The original ending was Scott getting back with Knives. But the creator of the comics didn't like it because it diluted the character growth of Knives. So Edgar Wright went back and shot this new ending just before the movie was released. The original ending is on the deleted scenes.
Hey, not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but Ramona's only female Ex, also voiced Katara from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Little fun fact. That and 2 actors in the movie later became Captains in the MCU.
This is in my top 10, (maybe 5) favorite movies of all time! It was fun to see you react to this one. Everything about this is awesome. The comedy, the effects, the plot, the music and especially, the cast! Aubrey Plaza and Kieran Culkin were nailing it.
…A hot chick that digs Scott Pilgrim… I wish I knew someone that special.
Finally, someone who actually included the reaction to Crash and The Boys, that is one of the best scenes many reactors fail to leave in.
The romance movie we didn’t know we needed I love that quote
When you mentioned the Anime look of the film, edgar wright told the actors to not blink that much to give that Anime look.
Its those tiny details that makes this movie so entertaining and rewatchable
"Everybody's beefin", I love it.
"I do love her."
We all did and still do.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is probably the number one reason I have a thing for brown eyed brunettes lol
Yeah, it's a favorite, really intense editing and so unique.
In the book, they say that scott is the best fighter in the province. They should've included that.
Took a date to see this in theaters since we were both fans of anime and video games, which was an amazing cinematic experience. It still amazes me that it did so poorly at the box office, if only for the fact it's such an achievement in special effects, cinematography and sound design. And of course in hindsight its cast is insane
The band Metric did the soundtrack for this movie. If you haven[t heard them definitely check them out, great little indie band from Toronto, Canada.
people on the moon have heard "help i'm alive" lol
Metric is great
Bigest DC/Marvel crossover outside DC/Marvel universes
Scott : Robin (Lego Batman)
Ramona : Huntress (Birds of prey)
Lucas : Human torch (Fantastic four 2005) and Captain America
Envy : Captain Marvel
Todd : Superman (Superman returns) and Atom (Arrowverse)
Roxy : Batgirl (DC super hero girls)
Julie : Lenny Busker ( Legion)
Vegan Cop #1 : Franck Castle (Punisher 2004)
"Yeah, their rock is devouring their little...techno dragons." Best comment I've ever heard in a reaction.
One little trivia bit: Chris Evans' character's skateboarding is because the character is loosely based on Jason Lee, who was a pro skater before his acting career took off.
I remember unlocking Jason Lee in one of Tony Hawk games years ago, totally surprised me at the time, I think it was project 8
Lol i have never heard this about Jason Leigh and i'm absolutely at a loss for words. Was this back in the Mallrats days?
@@Diegesis Before even that, actually! Mallrats was his big acting break and he retired from skating shortly afterwards.
My favorite background joke is the vegan police doing a high-five and going "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Saw this movie in theaters back in 2010 when I was in 7th grade. Had no idea what it was about. My brother and cousin just said they wanted to see it and I went with. When sex bob-omb started playing I basically reacted the same way knives did and I was immediately hooked.
Special shout out to Wallace. Kieran Culkin absolutely steals anything he's in.
You may recognize Ramona Flowers from Sky High. She was Royal Pain/Gwen!
30:24 - Haha - if you slow mo' it you can see that amplifier goes up to "十一" (also known as "eleven")!
Honestly Wallace is a whole ass menace
Todd is waaaaaay worse in the books than he is here.
That whole thing about punching a hole in the moon for Ramona? He does that with every girl he goes out with.
And envy is actually one of Scott's evil exes, and has to fight Ramona. And Roxys weakness in the movie is Envys in the book.
Wallace is the heart of this movie :)
Great to see the introduction of Uncle Jack and the McPoyles. Season 2 is the real beginning of the journey... can't wait!
Julie is played by the actress who also played April on Parks and Recs.
aubrey plaza
Wow, good eye
Your reaction to this movie was way better than anyone else I've seen.
I love this movie, and love Maple’s reaction to it!
9:15 Wait, Sleepy Time is an actual tea? I thought it sat along with Liver Disaster and Constant Comment.
34:16 OK Waymond.
37:08 There you go! Those two movies are, in my opinion, the most fun and creative movies of the last decade (well 13 years).
Insanely underrated and artistically stylized movie.
Watched this with my daughter back when she was little. She's 22 now, but she would watch it again. We like it.
I've seen this movie about 50 times and I've never noticed that the coins after each victory look like body outlines. Good eye 👍 for that alone you get a subscribe, a like, and a comment.
Yess! Can't wait to see your reaction! This is one of my fav movies! Can never go wrong with garage rock
Best editing transitions I've seen in any film.
The Yeti that Scott summoned was his personification of jealousy, aka The Green Eyed Monster!
I remember watching it for the first time - it blew me away!
The girl playing Ramona's evil ex is the voice of Katara in Avatar The Last Airbender
It's such a mood.
Really whimsical, cosy movie.
This is one of my all time favorites.
This was such a surprise at the theaters!
Loved your reaction so much. Makes me cherish the movie even more.
This film would feature a future captain america, a future captain marvel, and a former superman. An incredibly impressive cast.
also the punisher and huntress
And a George Michael Bluth, an April Ludgate, an Igby Slocumb, an Agnes Jurati, a DUFF…
@@Diegesis OH! You caught that Thomas Jane as the Vegan police guy? Good eye!
one of my all time favorite movies, Edgar Wright is a genius :D
LOL, this movie is SOOOO Maple! Especially with the video game elements...
Let me find out Maple's real last name is Flowers, 🤣
I love this movie. It's probably my favorite Edgar Write film.
Glad you started picking up on the number thing. It is ALL through the movie.
Fantastic reaction, ti an all-time favorite of mine, keep up the great content
OK I gotta sub this channel I did NOT know you reacted to this movie! I have seen this movie at least 50 times. Aslo, I saw this movie before I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind so the first time I saw Clemntine I thought "Hey is that Ramona Flowers sister"? lol
Funny I should mention the fourth evil-ex is played by Mae Whitman who played Katara in Avatar the Last Airbender.
Knew this would be right up your alley.
ellen wong (knives) is pretty good in GLOW, she needs to be in more stuff
Yeah i'm sad there was such a break. she was really charismatic
This whole movie is just metaphor and it's fabulous.
Love that flick. A personal favorite.
One of my favorite films. Excellent choice.
Wallace is the best character in this ;)
Great movie! Great reaction! I love seeing people discover this :)
My favourite explanation for people who have trouble "getting it" is: think of it more like a musical, but for video games.
Also some people get hung up on Scott being an asshole, despite a lot of his friends pointedly stating so. He (and Ramona) learn by the end to be less awful. I definitely saw a lot of early 20s relationships go like this.
A lot of fun facts being thrown out there. Another fun fact: The reason the fight scenes look as incredible as they do is because the were choreographed by Jackie Chan's stunt team
BEST comic/video game film of ALL time! And it's not even made by Marvel or DC.
I'm in lesbians with this film.
Fun fact: Mr. Lee's stunt doubles were played by Chris Evans's actual stunt doubles.
You're 100% right about Todd. As series creator Bryan Lee O'Malley says, "Todd is the Ken to Scott's Ryu: bigger, better, and even dumber."
If you love Scott Pilgrim vs the World more than life, you really need “Tankgirl” in your life too!
AH! One of my favorites. Happy to see it. You'll be fun to watch get this one. Thanks! Here we go! :)
This movie is so good but what really got me was the : Self Respect sword, it's the masterpiece of the movie
It took me a while to figure out that this whole movie actually happens online, in chat rooms and on games.
