    You're right about Scott being a jerk. The whole point of the comic and movie was Scott realizing he's actually not the hero and how much of a douche he's been and learning to be a better person.

    • @cyberbilly1
      @cyberbilly1 8 месяцев назад +56

      IMO that's the biggest flaw with the movie (while it's still one of my absolute favourites). In the novels, Scott himself grows more and deals with all of his own baggage and past relationships. He made stupid decisions but that is part of being a teenager/young adult. He realizes that and becomes a better person. Excited to check out the show tonight!

    • @brandontrammel4581
      @brandontrammel4581 8 месяцев назад +29

      @@cyberbilly1 exactly. The comic wasn't the fights but Scott learning how much of an asshole he had been to everyone and seeing from others point of views and how he affected them and it not being about himself and being selfish.
      In the comic you realize how important Nega Scott is because it's just him looking at himself pretty much seeing the bad things he really did. In the movie he's in it for two seconds and used as a joke. Tho the movie is still amazing will love to see the series

    • @mundanepants
      @mundanepants 8 месяцев назад +42

      @@brandontrammel4581 In the movie though, Nega Scott is the inverse of the real Scott, which makes him a pretty good guy since the real Scott is such an ass. Them agreeing to have coffee/whatever later is to show how those 2 sides are converging and the real Scott is becoming a better person.
      They wanted to have the concept of Nega Scott in the movie, but I don't think the run time would've allowed a more complex, prolonged use of him.
      I feel it works, but I can understand if people felt let down by it, especially coming to the movie from the comics

      People project so much of their own baggage into their hate for Scott. Firstly, the Scott character would be boring without flaws, and he has some of the funniest lines in the movie. Also, he's not a complete jerk like people say or else viewers wouldn't want to follow his self discovery. If he was a total jerk, the movie wouldn't work. If we are judging characters for being jerks, let's also include Wallace, Julie, Ramona, Brie Larsson's character, and even Knives. For instance, Wallace seduces Scott's sister's boyfriend in front of her and Knives uses Young Neil to get back at Scott, as well as calls Ramona derogatory names.

    I love how Nega Scott is meant to be his opposite - and as Scott is kinda an asshole Nega Scott is just a nice dude who doesn’t want to fight.

      Transition editing genius like this is timeless! Edgar Wright is a master of transitions.
      And while a big chunk of the style/references are video games/manga, aside from those having wider audiences than they get credit for the band drama/music focus hits well too. While I love Pilgrim more, it shares space in why I like it so much with Pirate Radio/The Ship that Rocked and Almost Famous (also worth reactions they don’t get).

Anyways, I loved this movie since I was a kid. Ever since I have had a Spotify, the soundtrack has been a constant in my playlists. Beck wrote Ramona and did the song for the soundtrack and that is currently in my daily rotation. The song that Brie Larson sung, Black Sheep, is a constant next to Threshold. They just make me smile.

    In the comic book, it's explained that Scott became the best fighter of Toronto because he changed school in (10th?) grade, and as a new kid the older kid beat him up, but since he fought back, they introduced him to fighting and by the time he graduated he was a legendary fighter.
    The book is a bit like a manga. I think it's one or maybe two pages that explain it, but basically that's it.
    The manga (5 volumes) is really worth it. For anyone in North America. It's really cool.

    I remember looking for something entertaining to watch on TV when I got to this movie in the party conversation scene thinking it was just one of the lame teenager movies, there wasn't anything good so I gave it a try and when Patel came to scene I was like: WTF is this sh1t? I love it!

    It's so fucking hilarious and ironic because essentially Nega Scott is the better version of Scott since he's supposed to be the polar opposite of him. He has all the good qualities that would make Scott a decent person. The result was perfect

    I wasn't feeling this movie, until the coins dropped after the Mathew Patel fight. Then I realized that video game rules were in effect, and I was in!

    I love this movie, it’s so unexpected. He’s not a predator in Canada, age of consent is 16. Not saying I agree with it but just letting you know. Plus Scott and Knives didn’t even hold hands.
